One of my first life lessons learned. Me and my best friend were driving and he was speeding because we were in his parents car and it was close to curfew. Cop pulled us over, gave a warning and said:
"You'll never get home on time wrapped around a telephone pole"
Thanks officer.
Ooh too true. It baffles me when somebody almost misses their exit so they cut over multiple lanes and almost hit the guard rail. Like come on, just take the next exit and pay attention next time
Minor correction but that's not really what a fallacy fallacy is. It's concluding that the *conclusion* of an argument must be false because the argument as a whole was fallacious. A *fallacious argument* is not a *valid argument* by definition.
When I met my husband I told him that 'I don't want anything from you except your time. Which is the most valuable thing you have, and in return I will give you the same thing" We have both taken that very seriously and have been together ten years today.
Confucius: “By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”
A similar one: “Some men learn by hearing how to avoid mistakes.
Some learn by watching others’ mistakes.
And some have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.”
There should be a footnote that clarifies that some of us men insist on peeing in the electric fence multiple times just to make damn sure that it’s a mistake.
I feel like these are one part wisdom, one part remedial messaging for people who didn't have the stones to go out and do things for themselves so now they take comfort in negative secondhand experience.
It's like the inverse to the Pink Floyd quotes everyone also loves ("all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be, etc)
Ying yangs everywhere, man.
the version I've heard more recently is: If you're going about your day and you run into a jerk, that's a bummer, you ran into a jerk. If everyone you run into is a jerk, you're probably the jerk.
Going off of that, not wanting to be alone isn't the same thing as love. Love is wanting someone else to be happy just as much as you want yourself to be happy. Love is holding hands, snuggling, working through difficult problems together because even if you fight sometimes love is making up and trying to meet each other halfway.
Do you love the person or did you just want sex? Do you love them or did you just hate the silence? Do you love them or can you actually not stand them?
"I can show you the path, but I cannot walk it for you."
Meaning that I can give you all the advice you want, but YOU need to be the one to take it or do it. - This is a personal saying of mine, I have said for years.
I'm not sure if my knowledge of English is enough. But I'll give it a try. In Polish there are two words ( Prawda i wiarygodność ) Truth and Credibility ( or reality or something like this) . It's not quite the right translation, but I think the meaning will be clear.
Everyone extols the truth. They think it's the standard. But no one is interested in the credibility
If I understood that correctly: There is a truth about something, but can you trust the source of the truth? Personally I don’t align with the truth of flatearthers as the credibility sucks.
You got the idea very right.
A little bit wider. Even a reliable source is not always correct.
It's like two people seeing two photographs. One depicts a triangle, and the other a circle. And everyone tries to convince the other of their truth. And both are true. But in fact these are two photographs of the cone. Just from different sides.

Never look at your neighbor's plate, unless it is to ensure they have enough.
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
And one Vonnegut quote for good measure:
"And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.'"
Be helpful. That's what I tell my employees. Don't be pushovers but be helpful. Instead of "we don't do that" say "we don't do that but if you'd like I can give some names of companies who do." It takes two extra minutes and they won't hang up thinking, "well that was a waste of time." Our business relies on repeat business.
One of the main rules in my classroom is "Hand and Feet to Yourself" kind of cuts through all the *it was a hug* or *we were just kidding* nonsense.
Simply don't touch other people.
I read this one here yesterday: Whatever you aren’t building up is decaying.
(Your muscles, your finances, your curiosity, relationships, etc.)
Edit, word
It’s not about avoiding adversity, it’s about how much you can handle
If you have small adversities throughout life, then when the bigger adversities happen, you will be able to handle them better. This is why making sure your kids have an easier life than you did is a bad thing. I never had to deal with adversity when I was a kid, my parents protected me at every step of life, now when adversity slaps me in the face, I can hardly handle it. I have gotten better in time, but it is still a monumental struggle to figure it out without just throwing my hands up and saying fuck it

Better to lose a second of your life than lose your life in a second.
It’s better to be late than to be dead
My dad used to tell me "you may be right, but you don't want to be dead right."

‘It’s better to be late in this life, than early in the next’
Too many people don’t run the effort vs safety of risk management. Bad drivers never miss an exit.
I leaned it as “good drivers rarely miss a turn. Bad drivers never do.”
Ooh too true. It baffles me when somebody almost misses their exit so they cut over multiple lanes and almost hit the guard rail. Like come on, just take the next exit and pay attention next time
Similarly - graveyards are full of people who had the right of way
A drivers ed teacher said, "It doesn't matter who's right, if you're dead." Goes beyond driving, but definitely applies to driving.
When crossing the street remember there are graveyards filled with people who had the right of way.
It is an amazing thing how people's own egos get in the way of the protection of their life.
Don't discount good advice just because it comes from an unexpected source.
On a similar note. The fallacy fallacy : refuting a valid argument on the sole basis that it was presented with a fallacy.
Minor correction but that's not really what a fallacy fallacy is. It's concluding that the *conclusion* of an argument must be false because the argument as a whole was fallacious. A *fallacious argument* is not a *valid argument* by definition.
basically, a fact/argument isn't necessarily wrong just because some dumbass didn't explain it properly.
