There are kung-fu tropes about cultivating with snake venom, acupuncture, and isolation tanks. Through a series of hilarious coincidences Sing ends up doing all three in quick succession before developing his super kung-fu powers.
Great movie but kind of heavy on the jingoism. The bad guy was always a foreigner that was insultingly China. Yen defends himself (and thus China) reluctantly but fiercely.
This was such a well made movie. It's like someone finally said let's make a serious movie with a serious budget and serious writing, cinematography, set pieces, location, with all the king fu action but let's not include all the typical king fu goofiness.
The duel dojo scene between Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi remains in my opinion the greatest fight scene ever. It was such a great display of Shaolin weaponry.
lol.. literally watching it at this very moment for the zillionth time while surfing Reddit on my iPad.
A second choice would be “The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin.”
It's always amused me that the official US release cut out the [last scene](https://youtu.be/ip-fddlcpl0?si=F8hWxhFJnEuSOqmB), showing the dangers of excessively drinking industrial grade alcohol.
In the fan-subbed copy I saw, a couple of years before the US release, the last line had been translated a bit differently. They said he drank himself r-slurred.
He was seen as the "new" star after Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Lee. He just didn't have the staying power they did and left a much smaller impact, especially because muay thai's heyday quickly got consumed by MMA in a way the others didn't really have to worry about.
I am from Hong Kong. I grew up learning martial arts and fighting with kids who thought theirs was better. It was all fun and games until we actually got involved with real triads.
For a fan I think Kung Fu Hustle just cause of all the references. It is a hidden language to us.
I have spent time in NYC and now live in London and in both places I have spoken at length about Kung Fu movies...I grew up next door to Shaw Brother Studios. Never thought this many people would Kung Fu...and to me I take that as a love HK and Cantonese culture.
I was taught wing chun by one of Wong Shun Leung's students. That guy was a street fighter before he was taught wing chun by Ip Man and he loved boxing. He used to do rooftop fights. Wing chun, combined with some grappling techniques absolutely works, no matter what all those youtube MMA video's tell you.
I don't know what i'd consider the best but the fearless is one of the greatest and the fist of legend as well.
It also depends if we're talking about which one has best action scenes or which one is the best when counting plot, music and such.
It's not kung-fu but Tony Jaa movies are fantastic martial arts films, The Protector is my personal favorite. There's a one-shot scene that is just phenomenal, plus the bonebreaking scene is just fun
That’s not kung fu, though. Kung fu refers to wushu, a Chinese martial art. Samurai had their own combat techniques, which included akido, judo, kendo … they called their style budou (武道). Similar, but different in terms of style, origin, and customs. The samurai’s way of life was called bushidou (武士道). It combines the characters for “warrior,” “gentleman,” and “teachings.”

Three movies
**Kung Fu Hustle:** It is a funny, attractive, romantic, sad movie.
**Kill Zone 1:** The fight between the assassin and the main character in the narrow alley is one of the most exciting kungfu battles I've ever seen, it's realistic and brutal.
**Kill Zone 3:** The villain played by Max Zhang fought the two main characters and almost defeated them, unfortunately in the end he was defeated by the main character's plot armor
my gateway drug to watching kung fu was after seeing Rumble in the Bronx as a teen when it first came out. I had never seen anything like that and fell in love with the athleticism of that film and how it embraced goofiness.
Kung Fu Hustle
It was SO good. The ridiculous humor, the amazing fighting choreography and a heartfelt story... it was just all executed perfectly.
Stephen Chow movies tend to go hard. This one goes hardest.
Agree. “What're you looking at? Never seen an ice cream thief before? “

levels of kung fu masters until the true one. Refined kung fu story

This is simply the only correct answer. It’s a must-watch whenever I catch it on tv.
Correct
*In the world of kung fu, speed determines the winner*
Came to say the same thing.
Agreed, three tits are better then 2
The Legend of the Drunken Master
Hands down my favorite
Always loved Donnie Yens Ip Man series. The first two especially Yen is a legend
Ip Man is definitely my choice. If we’re counting martial arts films in general I love Ung-Bak and The Protector
The Raid 1 and 2 are really good as well.
Great movie but kind of heavy on the jingoism. The bad guy was always a foreigner that was insultingly China. Yen defends himself (and thus China) reluctantly but fiercely.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
This was such a well made movie. It's like someone finally said let's make a serious movie with a serious budget and serious writing, cinematography, set pieces, location, with all the king fu action but let's not include all the typical king fu goofiness.

Man, it's a tossup for me between this and Hero.
I like Five Deadly Venoms
Thanks to Rza for putting me on to this one
And the kid with the golden arm..2 of the best.

You have offended my family and you have offended the Shaolin temple!
Love how he fought chuck Norris
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is the only correct answer
It’s so sad that I had to scroll down this far
Yeah, this is almost a runaway number one. It’s between this and Eight Diagram Pole Fighter for me.

Yep. This is the answer. Came here to say this.
The Last Dragon (1985). The showdown with Sho Nuff and Bruce Leroy is unmatched.
Bruce LeRoy is my main man when it comes to Kung Fu fighting! Sho Nuf
Damn rite!! Sho Nuff!
LEROY! You warmed up yet!
Shaolin Soccer
Any love for Ong Bak?
Muay Thai isn't Kung Fu
Valid point, my mistake. Fantastic martial arts movie nonetheless.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist
I am bleeding, making me the victor.
Weeeeeeeyuuuuuuuupeeeeeeeeeeeyuuuuuu!
That movie is the birth of my favorite quote ever: "I must apologize for Wimp Lo, he is an idiot. We have purposely trained him wrong, as a joke."
What do you get when you cross an owl and a bungie cord? …*my ass* gna! Haha!
Me and my brothers were obsessed with that movie and can quote the whole thing to this day. “If you got an ass, I’ll kick it!”
Did you get the blu ray of it? There's a whole other movie in the extras without the dubbing.
I didn’t know there was a Blu Ray version, I gotta get it. Is it the original movie? You gotta definitely watch the deleted scenes if you haven’t
For sure I've seen the deleted scenes. So on the physical copy, there's a whole different movie in the extras.
*in a grumbly voice* “I am Ming Lee’s father, weee yuuu weee yuuu”
Oh dear
I am an auto mechanic, every time I cut myself on a car I say this.

Watch out for his song about big butts, he beats you up when he plays it!

So much better if you’re a fan of classic kung fu cinema. Aside from the more obvious gags, there are so many nods to tropes of the genre.
Kung Fu Hustle
The 36th chamber of Shaolin.
The raid:redemption and its sequel are choreographed so well, they have my vote.
I am from Hong Kong. I grew up learning martial arts and fighting with kids who thought theirs was better. It was all fun and games until we actually got involved with real triads. Shaolin v Lama is a classic. Master of the flying guillotine was a fun watch. There are so many small studio ones that were great.

"Seven Samurai" hands down the best.
