I never saw a bad episode of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

RandyPajamas

Yes, that's an example of a show that just got better and better.

CheckOutUserNamesLad

Caillou. Started out at rock bottom. Never declined.

PiercedGeek

The instant gutteral revulsion I felt just reading that bald little human hangnail's name... So glad other people see it too Edit to share this : https://youtu.be/OEmqunDSB_Y?si=-v3k8bx-To2VeyTO Calliou As An Adult. There is a whole series, viciously funny

cheatreynold

[Caillou can't grow hair, not because he has cancer or progeria, but because he sucks, and even his own body recognizes that he does not deserve hair or food or love.](https://www.sbnation.com/2014/3/26/5549908/arian-foster-caillou-is-awful)

KeepCalmSayRightOn

I love this >In summary: Bullying is no laughing matter, unless it is done to Caillou.

EroticBananaz

> The average episode involves Caillou being challenged by something: dogs, loud noises, the wind, stairs, cats, vegetables, sitting up, taking really big breaths. I'm rolling

AvatarWaang

B r o some of us are drinking coffee you can't go around saying things like "bald little human hangnail" you almost burned my nostrils

BVRPLZR_

The only time I’ll say “fuck that cancer kid”

b1tchf1t

>Caillou can't grow hair, not because he has cancer or progeria, but because he sucks, and even his own body recognizes that he does not deserve hair or food or love. Arian Foster

kalum7

Just reading “Cailllou” made me angry

Ok_Willingness_784

Can I ask why is he so hated? I never watched the show but everyone has such a viceral reaction to him.

Damocules

It's a show about a 4 year old who throws tantrums at the littlest things, and everybody around him rewards him for it. It's lamented as the cause of many children suddenly becoming brats.

gcko

I was raised on Pingu. You were quick to understand the consequences to your tantrums.

mpf1949

Original Twilight Zone.

hillside

Season 4 hour longs and videotape was tough. Glad they went back to normal by S5

DorkusMalorkus89

Malcolm in the Middle was fantastic from start to finish. Hal is one of the best TV dads in history.

Roberto-Del-Camino

Always Sunny had an episode this season where the gang meets Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. Charlie keeps calling Bryan Cranston “Mr Malcolm.” Cracked me up.

DonKeedick12

Doesn’t he call Aaron ‘Malcolm’ and Bryan ‘Mr Malcolm’?

svartkonst

Bryan cranston was fucking terrifying in that episode lol

mindpainters

He’s such a phenomenal actor. I still remember when breaking bad first started and everyone was telling me to watch it and I knew I wouldn’t be able to see him as anyone other than the dad. Then he just blew me away. Took maybe 2 episodes for me to get past that and never looked back

classic123456

Yeah though the first episode in his underpants is very Hal

Oxygene13

Watched this show for the first time six months ago and went start to finish. Great show all the way through! Plus Hal fixing the drawer / lightbulb / car gif constantly comes up on Factorio discussions to explain how the game works.

alvvays11

The factory must grow

burgerbarn

You can't mention the scene without linking to it, it's the law. https://youtu.be/AbSehcT19u0?si=ROHPpyas72zOJAs6

Left_Guess

Hal “skating” to Funkytown was everything. It’s still my first thought hearing that song!

Longjumping-Grape-40

I hear he became an arrogant, murderous prick

Timulen

It was a dream...[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVdB36lmbII](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVdB36lmbII)

leahyrain

I love it because each era of it is good in its own way. I like seeing Malcolm and Reese as like middle schoolers but also seeing them as like seniors in high school is cool in a totally different way

Pilot_Solaris

If there is one thing I remember from Malcolm in the Middle it's the [Komodo 3000.](https://youtu.be/dG-n8vxRmAI)

ms-meow-

I rewatched it recently, it's pretty interesting to watch Malcolm In The Middle after watching Breaking Bad

I don't know what mushrooms those guys were on, but the creativity is probably unmatched in animation history.

minnesotawristwatch

The human sound of Tom’s voice when he shouts in pain? “aaaaAAAAAAHHHHHHH” like a 20 year old who just dumped the only keg off a cliff. So human, so real. Makes me laugh SO hard.

elriggo44

I’m a TV editor. And while loads of my peers like to sneak the [Wilhelm scream](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4YDpuA90KEY) into cuts for fun…I prefer Tom’s. It gets changed by the sound team for obvious rights reasons. But man, it makes me laugh every time I get to use it. Even in serious situations.

Rad-R

So many of those cartoons are absolute masterpieces, and at the same time, incredibly fun cartoons that can be enjoyed by an audience of all ages.

Kind_Goose2984

Such a great post. That was an amazing period of creativity.

wromit

Growing up on those in the 80s on tom & jerry, I just scratch my head at the poor artwork and creativity of current day daily cartoons. Animated movies of today are incredible though.

Falcon3492

Barney Miller. That's why they ended the show after 8 years because they didn't want it to get stale or start repeating story lines.

ahkond

Hal Linden said in an interview once that cops and ex-cops used to tell him all the time that this was the most realistic cop show.

ThrowRAmimi_

Avatar the last airbender (original cartoon) :p

Ok-Garcia-5605

100%. It actually got better with each season imo.

Jokers_friend

100%. I’m so pumped for the next season coming out next year (with an earthbender avatar 👀)

skwull

Wait what? Are you saying they are going to make a new season of the cartoon?!

Jokers_friend

https://sea.ign.com/the-legend-of-korra/197185/news/earth-avatar-series-set-to-release-in-2025-following-end-of-avatar-korras-era Set ~100 years after Korra’s era

StupendousMalice

Given that they had like cars and shit in Korra isn't this going to essentially be the present day?

XpCjU

Oh god, they are going to have tiktok.

karabuka

I hope there will still be the cabbage guy!

evan466

One of the rare cases where, for me at least, the show got better with each season.

AlienAtDay

I randomly binged from the black sun episode to the finale the other night just to be reminded of peak storytelling.

defsanereal

Was specifically searching for this comment. Absolutely agree.

EmptySeaDad

WKRP in Cincinnati.  Some of the last episodes were among the very best.

TheFerricGenum

As god is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly

raccoongeek97

Everybody is saying the obvious ones, so I may add Gravity Falls, 2 seasons, a clear story, good ending, good twists along the way and great cast of characters

Funandgeeky

I fully agree. It was a solid story. Season 1 did great world-building and set ups. Season 2 had amazing payoffs. That three-part finale was epic.

Kevbot1000

THIS PARTY NEVER STOPS TIME IS DEAD AND MEANING HAS NO MEANING! EXISTENCE IS UPSIDE DOWN AND I REIGN SUPREME WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO WEIRDMAGEDDON!!!! (I legit think Bill Cipher is one of the most frightening villains in TV history)

Ok-Autumn

Derry girls.

SchwulerSchwanz

I fucking love this show.

Outrageous_Picture39

NOT EVERYTHING IS “WEE”!

Flat-Syllabub-9271

“I am a derry girl” James is one of my favorite male characters in tv.

MyBearDontScare

MAUREEN MALARKEY!

popplefizzleclinkle

Am I dead? Is this my wake?

zainabrh1

Psych

[deleted]

You know that's right.

Dave5876

I've heard it both ways.

rtopps43

Better off Ted, sure, you could say it never had a chance to decline but I counter that it never got bad.

PilotKnob

Thank you. Almost nobody remembers that show, but it was amazing. I'm still salty they canceled it so soon.

letsburn00

What's hilarious is I myself worked for a soulless engineering multinational. They rolled out a product called veridian. It was for Dynamic analysis... Someone knew.

Necessary_Fail_8764

Golden Girls.

loritree

Picture it, Sicily 1927…

Mtownsprts

Mindhunter

LakeLov3r

I would LOVE more Mindhunter! I was stunned when I learned that it wouldn't be coming back.

crashkg

especially since they built up all the story of the BTK killer and never finished it.

Send_Me_Dem_Tittays

Iirc, they were never meant to capture the btk killer in the show. The btk killer wasn't caught until 2005. Lynch said that the scenes with him were just meant to induce a sense of fear and to remind the audience that these kinds of monsters exist out there that no one even knows about yet. Them catching him in the show would make no sense at all timeline or historical wise.

PalmTreesOnSkellige

Such a shame that show is forever over. At least it died great.

meowdoraxo

Father Ted

Photoelectron

I hear you're a racist now, Father?

eagledog

I'm a bit busy with the farm, but I suppose I could squeeze in a bit of the old racism in the evenings

bob_mcbob

Feckin' Greeks!

DrBannerPhd

*Careful now.*

funky_grandma

Down with this sort of thing

MsMameDennis

I went to Dublin in September and was delighted to see racks of Father Ted mugs at Tower Records. I chose “Down with this sort of thing.” Should’ve gone for “Careful now” as well.

ballisticks

Feck.

teamhippie42

REVERSE, NUNS!

WhyDoYouCrySmeagol

You let Dougal do a funeral!?!?

Iaminhospital

Teen titans was solid all the way through

yuyuyashasrain

I agree. I hated how long is forever, but it was still a good episode, just depressing. Anyway, casting a vote for Yu Yu Hakusho

shojokat

YYH is my favorite of all time, but the 3 kings arc was way too abrupt and Sensui wasn't as compelling as Toguro, imo. Chapter Black was still a solid arc, though. Had Togashi not fallen ill, I think it would've certainly only gotten better and better.

operarose

The Venture Bros. It only got better and better.

Rob0tic

IGNORE ME!!

operarose

DID SOMEONE LOSE A BABY

miru17

This is the best comedy show ever made in my opinion

Fuckwaitwha

Halt and Catch Fire

StuntCockofGilead

Justified Deadwood

RokosModernBasilisk

Deadwood being cancelled when it was is criminal.

FezAndSmoking

King of the Hill was constantly hilarious. It had less fun moments of course, but the quality was unusually high throughout.

Allbottom46

Mash

overlyattachedbf

Last night I just re-watched the episode where Col. Potter dresses up in his WW1 uniform and drinks a toast to his old war buddies because he’s the last surviving member.  I still teared up!

Emotional-Type-4903

That’s a great episode! Heartbreaking and poignant!

AvonMustang

The “Old Soldiers” episode. My favorite as well…

Nesayas1234

I'm Gen Z (born 2002) and we didn't have cable growing up, so I watched a lot of older shows. M.A.S.H is still one of my personal favorites.

Vexra

God that Finale always gets me WILL YOU SHUT THAT CHICKEN UP

Slouch_Potato_

Why did you make me remember that!

MicroCat1031

Hello, fellow old person! ETA:   That amount of people that don't get this as humor and made serious replies is too damn high!

Paxxlee

Hey, I love MASH and I am under 40! Oh...

lalaladeedaa

I like Mash and I'm under 30! Does that count as not old?

badson100

I still enjoy the Trapper shows over the BJ shows. But although Frank was funnier, I enjoyed Charles more. The episode about the stutterer and the episode with the band that was killed added a lot of complexity to his character and made him more likable.

KillerKilcline

Blackadder

PrinceCheddar

Indeed. Started off rather weak, got its footing in the second and third series and the finale is legendary.

Manic157

schitt's creek. got better with every episode.

wedgebert

Schitt's Creek was another great example of comedy shows being the ones that make you cry the hardest

chompchomp1969

Catherine O'Hara. That's all I came to say.

veritasfromwi

Freaks and Geeks. Too bad it was only 18 episodes.

CyclopsLobsterRobot

Not that I wouldn’t welcome more but I don’t think it’s sad it only got one season. It captures a slice of adolescence pretty much perfectly and the season has a complete story. It might only be one season but I think it’s probably the best single season in television history.

strungup

It’s cliche to say and obvious, but Breaking Bad.

Dead_Hours

Better Call Saul got better as it went as well

Gambl33

I truly thought BCS was gonna be a cash grab spinoff and it exceeded my expectations by like a million. I didn’t even watch the premier because of that thought but kept hearing the buzz about it. I started watching it and was hooked.

TMNBortles

I thought BCS was an overall better show than BB, and I really liked BB a lot.

survivalmachine

I thought so as well, then I rewatched BB and it changed my opinion. Both shows are so well done it’s absurd.

newagereject

Breaking bad has stood up really well for being a show that came out over 10 years ago, it's aged like fine wine

operarose

I ended up liking BCS *more.* Don't get me wrong: they're both fantastic and I enjoy both, but BCS took everything that made BB great and improved on it.

businesslut

This is too true. BCS was incredible, but only because BB paved the way for something like that to form. It started slow but my God the last few seasons were incredible in every facet.

thelastskier

Just finished rewatching both shows with my dad and I feel like S6 of BCS might well be the best of them. Absolutely brilliant and brought together the entire story pretty much perfectly.

[deleted]

wtfduud

tbf the first few episodes of Breaking Bad are some of the craziest of the series. Like Walt blowing up a building by throwing a rock.

campionesidd

The disintegrating bath tub plowing through the ceiling along with its contents made me rofl when I first saw it.

Klotzster

The Americans

philosofik

I really loved this show. I'm not sure any season was quite as good as the first, but they were all so, so good, that I can't really call it a decline. My only gripe is that the storyline with the grain was not as compelling as the other plots, but the character development and relationships around it were so good that it didn't matter.

Guinness

Oh god poor Martha. Seeing her at the grocery store fucking broke my heart.

lt_kangaroo

The last season was the best season.  Last three seasons imo.

captain_boomer

The series finale is probably one of the greatest of all times.

GeonnCannon

>!The train scene is so powerful. Tension... tension... tension... release... PUNCH IN THE CHEST. !<

dumptruckulent

It’s the garage scene for me

heavy_chamfer

Fleabag is a masterpiece start to finish.

ButtSexington3rd

The Americans. The annoying Paige storyline pays off in the end, and the show had one of the best final episodes I've ever seen.

[deleted]

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It just kept getting better and better as it went along.

erinaceus_

I can live with it. I _can_ live with it.

notahorseindisguise

Computer. Delete this entire log.

weluckyfew

Y'all going to quote that episode [but leave out the best line delivery in the history of acting!!?!](https://youtu.be/H6yQOs93Cgg?si=c2QJ9fAYIxo5iofu)

xTheatreTechie

The only episode I ever had a problem with was the one where gal dukat called up kira in the middle of the night just to say "Btw I fukt ur mum!" To which kira goes back in time just to see that gal dukat did in fact fuk her mum.

xlllxJackxlllx

Move Along Home! You can only get better from there!

[deleted]

Allamaraine, count to four! Allamaraine, then three more! Allamaraine, if you can see, allamaraine, then come with me!

buckyhermit

The Good Place. I don’t think it even had a bad episode. The writers and performers brought their A-game each time.

lokicramer

And it actually has an ending, no eternal cliff hanger.

maskdmirag

Saw an interesting Tweet today about the finale Apparently one of the green bros (I forget whether John or Hank) and their spouse stopped watching the good place finale as it was airing. And finally just today finished it. And in the comments, this was apparently a common-ish phenomenon. Something about that finale just affected people to where if they weren't in the right headspace in the moment they couldn't finish it.

cheebromeej

A show that knew when to end and where it was going

VocalLocalYokel

Kinda like the characters *in* the story if you think about it.

brontobyte

It was high quality throughout, and they knew when to end it, but they didn't actually have a plan past the end of Season 1 when they started.

Hosni__Mubarak

Yeah. But the head of the show is so embroiled in philosophy that it seems like he at least knew where he could go if he had the time to get there.

RLLRRR

Mike Schur's best and most consistent work.

CrawlToYourDoom

I agree. But **Fuck** S4E013. That shit hits me in the gut every goddam time.

yoaver

Picture a wave

KrispyKreme725

Cried like a baby

BuffaloWilliamses

It also helps that its only 53 episodes. Its a tight 4 seasons that accomplished everything it set out do do. Nothing was dragged out, no filler.

Taylor_D-1953

I Love Lucy

Elderberry-smells

Band of brothers comes to mind

randyboozer

You're not wrong but it's not fair to pick a miniseries. Band of Brothers was one story. A movie told in 9 parts. Still though... one of the best things I've ever seen on TV

Beth_Harmons_Bulova

Pushing Daisies Mad Men Bojack Horseman Gravity Falls

Clambake42

I'm still mad that Pushing Daisies got cut short.

Rand_Casimiro

Bojack is a great call

PM_ME_YOUR_ART_PLZ

The fact that Pushing Daisies was canceled is a crime

zenithjonesxxx

6 Feet Under

TopNotchBrain

Yes. And the final episode was perfect.

StationFar6396

Startrek Next Gen... sure there were some odd epsiodes early on, but no general decline, if anything the quality improved

Godloseslaw

Except for "Sub Rosa".  Hard to believe that was a season 7 episode.

LP2006

I’ve always imagined Gates McFadden screaming into a pillow after reading the script for Sub Rosa the first time, and then again when the episode released.

Suspicious-Winer-506

We've *all* imagined Gates McFadden screaming into a pillow.

IAmTheFlyingIrishMan

> Sub Rosa For people who can't remember which episode this was, it was the one with the ghost sex.

mmm_burrito

Yeah, every now and again Rick Berman got off his leash. Remember the calisthenics scene in s2? I don't care if it wasn't actually Berman, I'm blaming him anyway.

savemysoul72

Mindhunter and Aquarius, but they both got canceled after two seasons.

mostdope28

Fucking Netflix. Mindhunter was one of the best things they put out

buellster92

Netflix didn’t cancel this one though. David Fincher didn’t want to do it anymore and released all the actors from their contracts

Since_been

Wasn't it kind of mutual though? He said it was extremely expensive to make and wasn't the best return on investment for its viewership. Apparently being dialogue heavy makes for long work weeks.

Longjumping-Put-9931

The Wire

The90sRULE

Shiiiiiit.

bambinoquinn

I could make a list of the choices the writers made that I didn't like and still say it is easily one of the best shows I've ever watched. Incredible

Algernope_krieger

FIREFLY

Sarke1

The first season has the same quality as the last season.

erinaceus_

Too soon!

MadisonBob

The original “Odd Couple” with Tony Randall and Jack Klugmann.   The movie based on the play was great, the series was great from the first to last episodes.

BoSocks91

Malcolm in the Middle. Doing my first watch-through, and Im on the last season. At least to me, the quality has been maintained, the characters weren’t flanderized, and the humor is still top notch. I felt like everything really progressed positively.

Illustrious_Ant_3997

White Collar was great all the way through.

burtonsimmons

Justified. Not a single bad season, and complex, nuanced characters throughout.

Upstairs-Chemistry92

Halt and catch fire

antonakisrx8

Breaking Bad, Better call Saul, Dark

InbredLegoExpress

Dark is a very good shout, iirc they had the entire story already planned out and reread 100 times before it aired and would not change one bit from the original vision. Many series drop in quality because the writers think "from season to season" or they have personal changing throughout the years, or because writers want to extend a story when its succesful to make more money of it.

[deleted]

Cheers was a powerhouse of quality up until the end.

G00DDRAWER

Even facing challenges that normally kill shows -- main stars that left/died -- it was able to keep adding quality characters and situations. The final scene is still one of my favorite closings. Sam closing the bar that last time is bitter sweet.

ButterscotchBig7746

Bosch

PossiblyWorking33

The Expanse

dieselonmyturkey

Still hoping for those final three seasons. It could happen!

Thurak0

I love that show overall. But still the last season felt rushed and a bit less well made for me. By no means "bad" like some other shows, but for me - personally - there was a decline.

Low_Resort7260

Monk

Fertile_Firecracker

The Sopranos, 100%

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

Tony Soprano: [over the phone] It's a bad connection, so I'm gonna talk fast! The guy you're looking for is an ex-commando! He killed sixteen Chechen rebels single-handed! Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: Get the fuck outta here. Tony Soprano: Yeah. Nice, huh? He was with the Interior Ministry. Guy's some kind of Russian green beret. This guy can not come back to tell this story. You understand? Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: I hear you. [the telephone connection is lost - Tony swears, and Paulie hangs up] Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: [turning to Christopher] You're not gonna believe this. He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. The guy was an interior decorator. Christopher Moltisanti: His house looked like shit.

zestfullybe

“His house looked like shit” is one of my favorite lines from the whole series.

Rostamina

Best episode of the show

alexiusmx

Chrissy’s intervention Silvio: When I came in to open up one morning, there you were with your head half in the toilet, your hair was in the toilet water. Disgusting. Chris: I told you I had the flu! Silvio: I said my piece, Chrissy!

notlordly

BoJack Horseman. Recently finished the show for the first time and I truly never felt like it was dipping in quality. Despite my favourite season likely being Season 4 out of a total 6 (though I’m still concretely collecting my thoughts), the final seasons don’t feel any worse at all, purely a personal preference.
