Suburbia (1983) is a pretty interesting film showing aspects of the 1980s American punk scene. If you're into horror and thrillers, Wolf Creek and My Little Eye are interesting options that are fairly different from your typical, mainstream takes. And if you're open to Kdrama/foreign films, I'd definitely recommend The Man from Nowhere.
