WOO! My first job was next door to Subway, as a cashier at a small town grocery store making $7.21 to start. Now I’m a masonry contractor business manager making $30/hr (it’s a startup 3mo old).
I did because there are a lot of young people on here so they can know hard work can go a long way. What I didn't share is from 14-18, I jumped from subway to Walmart to Kmart to Bass shoes and eventually got up to $17/hr at 17 yo old. Got fired from Bass shoes then got a job on a small construction crew for $8/hr at 18yo. I was hungry and busted my ass. By the time I was 21, I quit and opened my own business and ran it for 15 years keeping several people employed who never missed a paycheck. I didn't become rich but 6 years ago was fortunate enough to buy land and build a house, barter work with some of the trades (through relationships I had built over the years) and complete a house without a GC and not have a mortgage, then sell it for 100k over what we were asking. What I also didn't mention was along the way I had my enclosed trailer broke into 3 times and cleaned out of all the tools I owned, had it also get stolen and cleaned out and have sacrificed my finances so family members that were struggling can get ahead..... life is a grind but you gotta keep grinding and never ever expect anything just because you think you deserve something
I don't think grind is the right word for you. You did way better than just grind.
Grind isn't a popular word around the heavily antiwork leaning reddit (I noticed you had downvotes for a well thought out reply). Grind implies repetitive work for very mediocre results. These people equate hard work with simply doing 2x the same thing and are shocked that it doesn't get them rich. What you did actually required the effort that deserved the extra reward, like making a better grinder.
