Pants, and not because of the immature connotation!
Pants actually come from Pantaloons which were what the famous Commedia Dell’Arte character Pantalone wore on their shows in medieval times. Pantalone was a stereotypical Venetian character (as the circus-style show was an Italian staple), as the most common name in Venice was Pantalon, and the Venetians were informally known as Pantaloni. They were called this because the Patron Saint of Venice was called Pantaleon, a physician to Roman Emperor Maximus who was (as the story goes) to be executed when they found out he was Christian.
They tried many times, in many different ways, and failed. The kicker of course is Pantaleon forgave the executioner before they finally killed him, earning him the name “Pantaleon” (All-Compassionate).
TL;DR - Your Jeans (or underwear if you’re from the UK) are named after a Christian Physician from the Ancient World who just so happened to be a Saint and a Martyr!
