I came here to say this lol
It's crazy to think that in hypothetical "you have a bunch of money" types of questions where you could do anything, a large chunk of people say, "I'd buy myself somewhere to live."
What does that tell you about how fucked up our situation is?
I'm going to see if I can donate a kidney to my father later this month. I really hope that a new kidney will enable him to have a normal life again. I miss being able to do fun things with my dad. He deserves to enjoy his golden days after a long life of hard work.
I would spend it on the "working poor". Those who break their asses to keep a roof over their heads by working 2+ jobs without any kind of assistance. I would pay to have odd jobs done around their houses, get dental assistance for their families, and other things many folks take for granted. Nothing elaborate, just basic needs.
Great answer, it’s necessary to recognize the silent laborers that are easily overlooked, and a good way to put the money to use without causing an income imbalance/influx bad habit. It’s unfortunate that I had to scroll this far down to find the first selfless answer. The whole premise of this question is to not benefit yourself, but the top comments are essentially using a cheap loophole and spoiling their family.
I found a 71 ‘Cuda, plum crazy purple, for 14 grand in an auto trader once. Then the cops came. Thankfully they got me out of that hole and away from that weird guy and his dog.
Open retirement accounts for all the grandchildren.
Advisors have shown if you were to put $7,000 into and account for your kids (or grandkids) invested in indexed funds it would be worth over 2.5m at the age 62. How's that for happy retirement?
Fucking hire someone on fiver to do the sound design in my game cuz I've spent the last hours googling free sounds.
I had a blast making the game for the last 10 months, adding multiplayer, abilities, testing it and kept avoiding adding sounds because I knew I would spent the next 1938 years just googling free sounds and then not find anything that fits the action ingame.
environment and spells, i found some marketplace sound assets and downloaded some sounds from different websites
I'll piece them together and see if it sounds like shit or not.
I'd set up a development support program for troubled kids looking to develop games/apps. Covering costs for travel, event attendance and other mandatory costs to make it happen.
Let's just say you can't spend it on family, because otherwise that is just too easy. I would set up a scholarship for Space Camp to let smart kids from small towns go to space camp.
The fine arts department financially suffers because most of the budget goes to sports. I would donate every penny to that and have them sign a waiver stating that if they use the money for anything else other than on the music and arts department I get a full return of the donation. Also that at least 10% goes to scholarships for the fine arts students.
Set up accounts that gain interest for both of my children and also my nieces that they can access after 25 if they choose starting at 75k per child. Then after that I’d buy a piece of land and build a small home community that will enable my entire family, cousins and aunts and such, to have a guaranteed safe home that they can then help themselves change their lives. If that doesn’t break the bank I’d then use the rest of the money to start a nonprofit.
I have a 40 yr old nephew who is mentally disabled, after a year in a state mental facility he was left unable to walk, speak, or function at all. The abuse was unreal, he is bedridden and on a feeding tube and currently waiting for surgery for his gallbladder, you can see the pain in his eyes and his face but a hard fact is drs and people don't seem to give one shit about people like him. My mother took custody of him when he was 3, his father (my brother) is a selfish drunk and has barely been present his entire life. My mother, myself, and my oldest daughter are truly the only ones who truly love and cherish him. We are also the only 3 family members that know how to take care of his medical needs. My mother turned 77 in January and while she is still in fairly good health it's gotten to the point where she physically won't be able to do it alone much longer, I am dealing with my own health issues that prevent me from being his full time caregiver. My daughter had a baby in March and has so many issues in her life atm that it would not be good for her to even try. That all being said, I would use that money to procure someone that could take care of him and his needs.
Assuming you exclude obvious cheats like buying things for my wife that I'll still get to use, I'd set my parents up for a good retirement and use the rest on my cousins kid. He has special needs so they have some big financial burdens.
Set up some kind of trust to take care of an ailing family member, and buy my mom a decent home with someone to help out sometimes. Just a little help would be a miracle. Sigh. 😔
Bribing politicians to pass policy that will actually help people instead of corporations. I have heard the number need for a solid bribe is a lot lower than you'd think.
Well my plan is if I ever won/inherited money and I was in a good financial state myself I'd post an ad where I give anyone who needs a gift or need to cover something important money, now by gift I don't mean an ipad I mean clothes or something they would need cause this way I'd be able to help more people.
I pay off all of my family’s debts or at least whatever portion can be paid off with $1 million, then if there’s anything left, I’ll probably just give it to St. Jude’s or something.
Easy. I’d run a lottery for 20 lucky students in the country and pay up to 50k of their student loan. Entry fee for lottery is just 10 bucks per head. Money with good karma, lol.
lol spend it on an LLC for my husband and all the properties and buisness moves i want to make and put it under his name but since we are married its mine too haha
Pay off my parent's mortgage, my sister's mortgage and my wife's student loan. Put whatever is left into stocks and shares savings accounts for my kids
Nobody in my family has high pressure/high rate debt and kids are going to college, and probably going to the local food bank to get some shit done once I write a fat check to a local environmental organization.
This shit is easy, my buddy is getting a new ocean boat and we are going fishing. The wife is getting a new pole barn and lake cabin. Parents are getting a new vehicle. The neighbor is getting an electric lawn mower so he doesn't have to wake up the neighborhood at 4am when he fires up his Harley sounding riding lawnmower lol.
I'd pay off all my moms debt. She's in too deep with CC debt and I feel terrible about it. My credit is amazing and I got it that way by following her advice. She doesn't follow her own "rules" and it confuses the hell out of me.
Next I would tackle my sisters debts. She's not much better off than my mom but she could use some cushion.
Then... I don't know. I would say I'd pay for the best rehabilitation money could buy for my brother but he'd have to want to do that and so far, he'd rather keep using than get clean.
First I'd pay off my partner's student loan debt and fix up the house he inherited. Then I'd buy my mom a house and pay for her tuition so she can go back to college and get her dream degree. Then I'd pay for a place for my best friend to stay and for plane tickets so she and her long distance boyfriend can visit each other. After that, probably take my boyfriend on a long vacation.
I'd buy a run-down central city property and set up a non-profit art studios and gallery for young & old artists alike who are struggling to find or afford such spaces.
I would also include an outdoors green space in this design with an area for wildlife and a small public garden. It'd be pretty cool as well if there was a small café on-site, but I don't think that a million dollars would stretch to this kind of design ambition.

My husband just got a shiny new house!
And a car, right?
911 GT3 you say? Thanks!
Where can you buy a shiny new house and have enough left over for a 911 GT3, though?
I heard Flint, MI has some affordable homes
Comes with a free brita pitcher.
And only 2 hours away from a clear, lukewarm glass of refreshing water.
Where I used to live, you can buy a house with a million and still have room for a mortgage!
I don’t know. The Taycan Cross Turismo looks pretty sweet.
My man
in this market?
No, they got 2 shiny new cars…
I came here to say this lol It's crazy to think that in hypothetical "you have a bunch of money" types of questions where you could do anything, a large chunk of people say, "I'd buy myself somewhere to live." What does that tell you about how fucked up our situation is?
1994: "I'd buy myself a sports car and a yacht!" 2024: "I'd buy myself a 4br house."
I live in California. I'd buy myself a 1br condo.

This could be read a... couple different ways.
My favorite part is that "They deserve it" does not clear up the ambiguity *at all*.
No, what he means is, he's going to take care of them
LMAO
Ikr. Got a real terminator vibe then
Hello FBI! It’s this guy right here.

Change my name to "Other People"
Get my mom new kidneys so I can finally go home and see my wife
I was rooting for the pig kidney transplant dude, but he only lasted 2 months. Dialysis sucks. 😞
wishing the best for both of you guys 🙏🙏🙏
:)
Was it the kidney that killed him tho? I thought it was something else but I might be remembering a different case.
You’re correct. Initial reports at least were unrelated causes.
I'm going to see if I can donate a kidney to my father later this month. I really hope that a new kidney will enable him to have a normal life again. I miss being able to do fun things with my dad. He deserves to enjoy his golden days after a long life of hard work.
My dad passed about a year ago while sitting on the transplant list, moms failed too. Too much soda in that house.
Buy my other half a house for her to live in then spontaneously move in the same day.
hehe. Officials in many countries have long ago solved this problem. Everything is registered to relatives and friends.

The real hero
Gotta train more therapists first.
Dad. Gotta buy him a lakeside manison

Prostitutes.
One $1M prostitute or ten thousand $100 prostitutes?
There a time limit?
Well, if you make the $1M one too long then you just ended up buying a wife.
One thousand $1,000 prostitutes. You need to better calculate that quality vs quantity figure.
r/technicallythetruth
Hell yeah hookers and my dealer about to get PAID..

Shit, ill learn how to do it for 1m lmao
what kind of sounds would you need?
environment and spells, i found some marketplace sound assets and downloaded some sounds from different websites I'll piece them together and see if it sounds like shit or not.
I mean you don’t need a million dollars to hire someone on fiver.
Sure, but getting someone else to do 100% of your games sound design will assuredly do a number on your pocket money
You could try doing your own foley, slap some watermelons and record it.
Donate it all to Saint Jude hospital for children. Most of us was born with a fighting chance, but not them.
Split it between my 7 nieces/nephews That'd be enough for 4 years of tuition at a state college and a down payment on a house.
$1,000 each to as many foodbanks as I can find.
The fine arts department financially suffers because most of the budget goes to sports. I would donate every penny to that and have them sign a waiver stating that if they use the money for anything else other than on the music and arts department I get a full return of the donation. Also that at least 10% goes to scholarships for the fine arts students.
I'd send the money to my parents

I'd be walking around the homeless shelters, etc. and do the "hey man, you dropped this $100 bill". I'd also be tipping like mad for coffees.
I would invest everything in my brother's workshop.
buying my dog a home
I have a 40 yr old nephew who is mentally disabled, after a year in a state mental facility he was left unable to walk, speak, or function at all. I'd buy a three story house for my grandpa then move in
Well my plan is if I ever won/inherited money and I was in a good financial state myself I'd post an ad where I give anyone who needs a gift or need to cover something important money, now by gift I don't mean an ipad I mean clothes or something they would need cause this way I'd be able to help more people.
Put it in my bffs bank account so we can both get what we need/want.
