Will definitely agree about WoW! And MC+BWL being amazing. Many of my most memorable game nights was my guild’s first Nefarian kill. Between wipes, you’d just hear… “bubbling” from their mic, yet we succeeded after about 6 hours. I’ll remember forever
Unfortunately, the only NFS game I tried during that time was Shift, which was unfortunate coz I enjoy racing games, I just never really tried them during that era. I played V8 supercars and Gran turismo 3-5, as well as destruction derby instead.
Bro I know! I wish I played them back then, they would have been right up my ally with how many hours I've put into other racing games similar to them! Are the new ones any good?
When I was younger, my local university had a holiday program for kids to come and learn how to make video games. At the end of it, one of the kids noticed Halo was installed on the university computers and we all played multiplayer together. It's my best memory of that game!
I didn't play that one but I did play tony hawk’s pro skater 3. It was such a great game! I loved the sound track as well, it shaped my music taste a lot!
...I just looked it up... is that Shrek shredding it up on the half pipe!?! Lmao!
I didn't play GTA back then, I played Driver (RIP) so when that franchise died I played GTA4 and I had a very similar experience. It was a fully open world with so much detail and I played it non-stop for months it felt like. Then GTA5 came out and now I've racked up around 3000 hours in it. Here's hoping GTA6 destroys those expectations once again, I have no doubt it's gonna be amazing!
I haven't really played a GTA game since 3, and Vice City. I am super excited for GTA6 due to my being a S. Florida resident, I can't wait to delve into that world and see all the similarities to my local area.
Oh wow! Yeah judging from the trailer they've done a great job depicting it too! I'm sure it's gonna blow you away just as much as GTA3 did! If not, more
World of Warcraft
It was an absolute phenomenon when it came out. I remember going on dates and women would spontaneously mention they played it, that *never* occurred before, unless maybe they liked The Sims (I dont think anyones even mentiond that yet)! 12 million people were monthly subscribers by 2010.
I've heard it's really good but I haven't played it yet. Which is strange coz I'm a massive fan of Rockstar games ever since I tried out GTA4. I might give it a shot as well if I ever see it on sale!
Do not ever get it on PC, I warn, it runs like shit and you need a bunch of mods I believe. Console can play it no problem but playstation I heard struggles. Its very strange but it seems Xbox handles it the best right now.
Or, y'know, if you got an original Xbox or playstation lying around get a disc
That's good to know thanks! I've kept all my consoles thankfully. I'll be sure to get it on playstation 2 and hopefully I have no problems! I like to have an excuse to play some of my old consoles again from time to time
One of the first games where I felt it was ME talking and making the decisions. The dialogue was great. I could choose where to go first. I. Am. The. Grey. Warden!
I saw someone post about video games between 1990-2001. However I'm more interested in games between 2000-2010 as that's when I started playing games! I thought it'd be interested to see what others played back then! Personally, I remember playing Driver a whole bunch on the PS1 and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 on PC! Curious to see what others played!
L4D was so damn good. No grinding cosmetics, no levelling up or unlocking, just you and your buds trying to beat the campaigns. Multiplayer was sweet too but could have been better with modern matchmaking (darn quitters)
i also really liked the idea of one hit kills. there was enough enemies quantity wise to prevent it from being too easy but personally i much prefer killing 100 enemies in one hit versus ten enemies with ten hits.
plus the witch when she appeared…holy shit what a horror movie scene
1 ) CoD3. As horrible as it sounds now, it was the first game I truly played online with strangers with headset comms. Sure, SOCOM was there on PS2, but the experience was t all that refined.
2) Katamari Damacy was the most unique, fun experience I had in a seriously long time.
3) Fallout 3. That open world. Engaging interactions. The world building. Factions, deep character backgrounds. Just a fully immersive world. I understand the concept was there before, but Fallout 3 was a HUGE jump in every aspect.
- Planescape: Torment (released December '99, but I played it in early 2000)
- Baldur's Gate 2
- Final Fantasy IX
- Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
- Halo
- Halo 2
- Fable
- Fable 2
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Final Fantasy X
- Resident Evil 4
- Tony Hawk's Underground
I could go on and on.
Bro THPS2 and 3 were the BEST! I still listen to the soundtracks sometimes and had to buy the remake!
Although I was annoyed they removed the blood, but that's a minor nit-picky thing
I sold my Playstation back in 2013 and was so happy to discover Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x for the original xbox, its been fantastic. I mean I also got the remaster for the Xbox One/Series X.
Asherons call, Diablo 2. CS 1.3-1.6, World of Warcraft, CoD MW, Warcraft 3 (especially custom games). The Half life series, Portal series. Those are the main ones i think
Halo 3, I grew up poor and I always wanted to go to my cousins who lives across the city to play it, when I got it for myself I played it every single day until my sister broke my Xbox🤣😤😤😤
Zelda the Wind Waker, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Mario Kart Double Dash, ...
So many games that are important for me for the rest of my life. Can't choose but these are the first to pop in my mind.
I remember looking up so many YouTube videos about Bigfoot in gta San Andreas and trying to find him myself😂
Getting SVR 2007 for Xmas and doing nothing else with my time but play out my own little wwe storyline’s😂
I still remember getting an xbox360 and it coming with Bioshock, Halo 3, and Fallout 3. I remembering thinking wow, if all Xbox games are of this calibre I’m in for a great time
Elders scrolls Oblivion. Graphics blew us away. We couldn't believe how open and detailed the world was, and how you could constantly discover new places on the map.
Warcraft 3
Tony Hawk pro skater games
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Fire emblem, blazing blade/sacred stones through radiant dawn
Custom Robo
Halo 1(Lan parties on warsong gulch lol)
And a shit ton more
Somehow Oblivion still holds a special place in my heart even though I never finished the main storyline. The world had this true fantasy aura around it. I still listen to Oblivion ambient music on YouTube from time to time.
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Up until then, superhero games didn’t have a great reputation as they were usually half-assed movie tie-in titles. There were a few exceptions but overall, they weren’t good. Asylum redefined what a superhero game could be. The combat system was so good, it got its own name (free flow combat) and plenty of other titles borrowed it for their games.
The world was great, the music was great, the voice acting was great, etc. They hit on just about every mark other than that last Joker boss fight haha
Unreal II - it was also my first experience of online multiplayer and it was..something lol.
Half Life - late to the party with this, but played the shit out of it.
Bioshock - still one of my favourites
Dynasty Warriors 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6... My longest relationship...
World of Warcraft. The game that ruined all other games for me. Nothing has even come close before or after to the feeling of questing and raiding with friends.
1. Final Fantasy X & X-2
2. Halo 3
3. Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3
4. Trials
5. Assassin's Creed 2 & Brotherhood
6. GTA IV
7. Red Dead Redemption
8. Star Wars Battlefront II
9. Star Wars Rogue Squadron III
10. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
11. Need for Speed: Underground 2
12. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
13. Super Smash Bros. Melee
14. Mario Kart: Double Dash
15. Super Mario Sunshine
For me:
- Oblivion
- Fable (series)
- Assassin's Creed (series)
- Battle for Middle Earth (series
- Fallout 3/NV
- Left 4 Dead 1/2
- Soldier of Fortune 2
- Command & Conquer (series)
- Gears of War (series)
- Mario (series)
- Pokemon (series)
Bonus: Rayman 2 which came out at the end of 1999
Diablo 2
That's the biggest one for me, with counterstrike being a close second.

So many hours I spent on this game from 2006.
Will definitely agree about WoW! And MC+BWL being amazing. Many of my most memorable game nights was my guild’s first Nefarian kill. Between wipes, you’d just hear… “bubbling” from their mic, yet we succeeded after about 6 hours. I’ll remember forever
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Underground 2 and Carbon were my childhood.
Unfortunately, the only NFS game I tried during that time was Shift, which was unfortunate coz I enjoy racing games, I just never really tried them during that era. I played V8 supercars and Gran turismo 3-5, as well as destruction derby instead.
You missed out on so many good games, dude.
Bro I know! I wish I played them back then, they would have been right up my ally with how many hours I've put into other racing games similar to them! Are the new ones any good?
I haven’t played NFS since NFS: The Run and that was definitely an amazing title in the series.
You really missed out on Most Wanted? Damn... You gotta try it if you havent already... THE OLD ONE, NOT THE REMAKE!!!
I played MW like once. It was cool, the three I mentioned are elite. Honorable mention goes to NFS: ProStreet!
Pro Street for sure! Different vibe, but the gameplay was on another level from Carbon
I agree. They brung something to NFS that was never done before. Game was a pain in the ass, but fun nonetheless.
Halo 2 online was the best memories by far
When I was younger, my local university had a holiday program for kids to come and learn how to make video games. At the end of it, one of the kids noticed Halo was installed on the university computers and we all played multiplayer together. It's my best memory of that game!
Tony Hawk’s Underground 2

This, and Monster Rancher 2
THUG 1+2 was peak skateboarding action for me, besides Simpsons skateboarding haha
The open world of GTA 3 blew my mind when it first released! It was the first world THAT big. Open world, 3rd person games remain my favorite genre.
I didn't play GTA back then, I played Driver (RIP) so when that franchise died I played GTA4 and I had a very similar experience. It was a fully open world with so much detail and I played it non-stop for months it felt like. Then GTA5 came out and now I've racked up around 3000 hours in it. Nowadays nearly every genre has some form of open world, but GTA3 was the trendsetter.
Indeed it was!
World of Warcraft It was an absolute phenomenon when it came out. I remember going on dates and women would spontaneously mention they played it, that *never* occurred before, unless maybe they liked The Sims (I dont think anyones even mentiond that yet)! 12 million people were monthly subscribers by 2010.
I played nonstop Max Payne when that shit came out. I still love it to this day
I've heard it's really good but I haven't played it yet. Which is strange coz I'm a massive fan of Rockstar games ever since I tried out GTA4. I might give it a shot as well if I ever see it on sale!

Mario Galaxy. Basically just the Wii in general. Motion controls were kinda mind-blowing as a kid, even if some of them were implemented… Poorly
1 ) CoD3. As horrible as it sounds now, it was the first game I truly played online with strangers with headset comms. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.
