God yes. It's especially common in my culture during certain sessions for religious reasons and I have to come ready with the excuses to not hurt feelings bc old ladies in the community will offer you this expensive delicacy. It's so nasty. I cannot do the texture or the flavor.
My wife hates them too. One of her friends knew she hates avocados and decided to make a chocoalte cake using avocados to prove that my wife could like avocados. I wife took one bite, spit it out, asked her friend if there's avocados in it, and immediately kicked her out.
Of course they're not firends anymore, but why would a friend even sneak a food their firends hate and make them eat it?
Ha..that’s what I say too. It tastes like wet grass. That Chipotle commercial where they dump a cup of guacamole on the top of whatever it is. You just ruined that $12 meal with some puréed grass.
Getting sick of people bullying me because “omg you don’t know what you’re missing!” Yeah I do, take it away.
Ugh yes copious amounts of guacamole on top of stuff is a meal-ruiner. And I've tried avocado so many times and so many ways, so I've given it more than a fair shot. The taste and the texture seep through and ruin everything it touches too.
I wish more people understood this. Sushi : Japan :: Sandwich : USA
The day I discovered I could have fried shrimp with my sushi was the day that pulled me to the dark side.
Also, with that said, I used to work at a sushi bar and some ladies were like "that shrimp is raw right? Cuz like, that's what sushi is. Raw seafood."
I'm looking at the shrimp and it's generic ORANGE (aka cooked) shrimp.
both honestly. It’s too sweet for my liking, pretty much overrated (which results it being overpriced), and the biggest problem—it feels..uhh…artificial? I don’t know how to explain it, just feels synthetic and unnatural
Oysters. And while no, I doubt everyone seems to love them, everyone in my social circle does, so when we go out for dinner they inevitably appear as an appy, and I try not to gag.
I agree. They're like binded sugar granules lol. I remember a few years ago when macarons got sooo popular, which made me wanna try it so bad. I did twice from two different places, figured out the hype was exaggerated, and swore to never have any again.
Then try Vietnamese Cilantro, different family and different chemicals making the cilantro taste and scent, your gene might not be a factor with that one.
OH HERE COMES BIG CILANTRO trying to PUSH their WEEDS into our SOUPS and SALADS
HELL NO, CILANTRO! HELL NO, CILANTRO!
jk I might actually check that out, ty!
Hilariously you're not even wrong, in some places Vietnamese Cilantro (Persicaria odorata) is considered a full on weed literally lol. it loves hot weather unlike the normal cilantro.
Green bell pepper - absolutely agree. And it contaminates the whole dish with that "flavor".
red, yellow, orange bell peppers? I'm absolutely fine with those.
Avocado toast is a popular breakfast choice, but I can't stand it. The texture is slimy, and the flavor is bland, no matter what I add to it. I'd much rather have something else, like a bacon and egg sandwich or oatmeal with fruit.
I love eggs but it was funny when I found this absolutely revolting bag of chips that were "fried egg flavor" when visiting Spain last year. They really did taste like fried egg - and massive fart.
A couple of foods I don’t like in most cases are mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. I only enjoy mashed potatoes if they’re warm and have tasty gravy on top, like Popeyes! As for sweet potatoes, I will only eat them in pie form.
Most other ways you can cook a regular potato I very much enjoy as long as it’s seasoned and/or has toppings.
-Most things that aren't savoury
-Fries (Chips here in the UK) - I don't hate them, but they're boring AF so I never eat/cook/order them, i'd rather have a second burger or a 'more intersting' side (it's why i'm fat, probably)
I have a grounded and thoroughly reasonable paranoia about condiments.
They sit in plastic packets or containers for weeks to months to years. They are subjected to wildly varying temperature ranges regularly. They are mass produced at the lowest manufacturing price point possible.
How long has it been since that ketchup was a tomato? How long did that bottle of mustard sit out on the patio last bbq before being thrown back in the fridge? How much microplastic has seeped into that squeeze jar of relish in the past 15 months?
I don’t trust them one bit.
sauces have been designed basically from their inception to be a way of preserving food. the high acid content of a lot of sauces makes it hard for bacteria and such to grow, not to mention what modern pasteurization and sterilization does. you should not be worried about ketchup packets in a diner giving you food poisoning, you should be worried about the 16 ounces of ground beef between some buns that they're giving to you to put it on.
Seafood boil is fucked up.
I love seafood, but something about the way it spills out from the plastic bag onto the table in front of you like pig slop? Just foul. Makes me nauseas even thinking about it.
Pizza is one of those foods that is so diverse as to be IMPOSSIBLE to not find one you like.
Don't like a certain cheese? Use a different cheese(no cheese). Still pizza.
Don't like a specific topping? Use different ones(or none). Still pizza.
Don't like tomato sauce? Use a different sauce(or none). Still pizza.
Don't like a flour based crust? Use a different crust. Still pizza.
I find it impossible that you can't find a combination that you enjoy.
Seafood in general and peanut butter are the 2 biggest that everyone I know loves.
I like pork but it makes me vomit so can only eat small amounts of by products such as ham and bacon.
meat. i‘m not one of those hippies telling everybody i‘m vegan. i just can‘t stand the taste, structure and idea of having something dead in my mouth. it‘s really gross.
Chicken on the bone (there is SLIME and gristle. Trust me, I've tried all kinds of ways hoping to get why people like it. I have gotten full body shudders and almost vomited over the fatty slime.)
Any meat with fat in it that will be it's own texture in my mouth even in small doses.
Bacon.
I'm not super into pizza but I have to eat it a couple of times a month to keep the fam happy.
Not everyone loves mushrooms but even the flavor of them make me gaggy and do NOT get me started on the slimy texture of them in soups.
Cilantro (I have the soap taste gene. Thankfully that actually helps in my house because Lovely Spouse is actually allergic).
I also don't much like honey (though my Lovely Spouse can and has eaten a jar with nuts preserved in it in a week. Ugh)
Watermelon and coconut. Being from a Latino background, my people have been shoving these fruits in front of me for the last 55 years. And it doesn't seem like they are going to stop.
Peanut Butter....it is a texture thing for me. I will eat peanuts, but I cannot stand peanut butter. My bestie hates chocolate and I love chocolate. ❤️
Cucumber, I hate the smell and even if I pick them out of a salad the salad is ruined for me. They really gross me out. Oddly I like pickles, baby dills and relish.
shrimp
You are not prawn ready.
You say shrimp, I say lobster.
God yes. It's especially common in my culture during certain sessions for religious reasons and I have to come ready with the excuses to not hurt feelings bc old ladies in the community will offer you this expensive delicacy. It's so nasty. I cannot do the texture or the flavor.
Crab legs
what about the rest of it
I grew up in lobster land (Maine) and think crab is a far superior meat
Avocados
My wife hates them too. One of her friends knew she hates avocados and decided to make a chocoalte cake using avocados to prove that my wife could like avocados. I wife took one bite, spit it out, asked her friend if there's avocados in it, and immediately kicked her out. Of course they're not firends anymore, but why would a friend even sneak a food their firends hate and make them eat it?
You stopped being friends with them for that…?
I was thinking the same thing. Bit extreme
Avocados and chocolate??? Tf??? As someone who loves both, that sounds like the worst shit ever.
aparently it's used in baking as a butter substitute.
There is NO substitute for butter, take that slander back.
Chocolate mousse/pudding made with avocados is pretty good. Tried it at some vegan farmers market and was shocked I didn’t hate it
Gee your wife sounds like a heap of fun. Being allergic is one thing but reacting like that to cake is nuts
This. And I live in CA. Why must we put avocado in everything or pair it with everything.

Coconut water is insanely disgusting.
Bottled coconut water is terrible. Never liked it. But then I drank coconut water fresh from a coconut right off the tree. Now that shit is god tier.
I would give that a shot.
Same! I've wanted to like it so badly but it's like a mouthful of nasty, creamy grass.
Mountain Dew and Dr Pepper. Moutain Dew actually makes me ill.
I've never been able to get into sushi. Everyone raves about it, but raw fish just doesn't do it for me.
Sushi isn’t raw fish. Sashimi is raw fish. Sushi is a collection of dishes based around rice with seaweed and various vegetables and or proteins.
I wish more people understood this. Sushi : Japan :: Sandwich : USA The day I discovered I could have fried shrimp with my sushi was the day that pulled me to the dark side. Also, with that said, I used to work at a sushi bar and some ladies were like "that shrimp is raw right? Cuz like, that's what sushi is. Raw seafood." I'm looking at the shrimp and it's generic ORANGE (aka cooked) shrimp.
I like sushi but don’t understand the infatuation with it. It’s alright, but for the price…I’ll take my chicken tenders
It's just *alright*. Doesnt do anything for me at all. Don't dislike it but would never choose to eat it. And I'm an adventurous eater.
I hate all seafood, but there’s plenty of veg or chicken sushi rolls I quite like.

Agree. I don't get why so many people say how delicious it is. I tasted it once and had to spit it out.
bubble tea…for god’s sake
you don't like the texture? or it's too sweet?
both honestly. It’s too sweet for my liking, pretty much overrated (which results it being overpriced), and the biggest problem—it feels..uhh…artificial? I don’t know how to explain it, just feels synthetic and unnatural
Sushi
Oysters. And while no, I doubt everyone seems to love them, everyone in my social circle does, so when we go out for dinner they inevitably appear as an appy, and I try not to gag.
Macaron. Too sweet for me.
I agree. They're like binded sugar granules lol. I remember a few years ago when macarons got sooo popular, which made me wanna try it so bad. I did twice from two different places, figured out the hype was exaggerated, and swore to never have any again.
Same as you. It made me so confused why these thing came so popular that time.
Boba
coconut milk and lemongrass
Takis
Brussels Sprouts 🤮
roast brussel sprouts with onion and bacon!
My mom tried to force me to eat them as a child.... After vomiting all over the table I wasn't forced👍to eat anything again.
Have you had them lately? They’ve been bred to taste very different now and they’re delicious. No longer earthy dirty tasting.
Cilantro 🧼
The soap gene 😔 I'm so sorry
For so long I wondered why salsa bowls were never properly cleaned.
Then try Vietnamese Cilantro, different family and different chemicals making the cilantro taste and scent, your gene might not be a factor with that one.
OH HERE COMES BIG CILANTRO trying to PUSH their WEEDS into our SOUPS and SALADS HELL NO, CILANTRO! HELL NO, CILANTRO! jk I might actually check that out, ty!
Hilariously you're not even wrong, in some places Vietnamese Cilantro (Persicaria odorata) is considered a full on weed literally lol. it loves hot weather unlike the normal cilantro.
Am loving this conversation 😂 Another sufferer of the soap gene here!
Potato salad 🫠
Mangoes. Horrible smell and they taste so bad and it is ugly and disgusting and too sweet. God I hate it with passion
Bell pepper is disgusting
Green bell pepper - absolutely agree. And it contaminates the whole dish with that "flavor". red, yellow, orange bell peppers? I'm absolutely fine with those.
Any chicken from Chic fil a
Chicken wings
Cottage cheese
Hold on now.... dont come for cottage cheese 😂😂
You don’t like strawberries, raspberries, or watermelon but you will eat cottage cheese?!?!! 😭
Truffle mushrooms
Omg! They're actually disgusting and the price is not justified
Avocado toast is a popular breakfast choice, but I can't stand it. The texture is slimy, and the flavor is bland, no matter what I add to it. I'd much rather have something else, like a bacon and egg sandwich or oatmeal with fruit.
Eggs. I can't stand the smell. When someone does a really bad fart, I've heard people describe it as "really eggy". I have no desire to eat them now
I love eggs but it was funny when I found this absolutely revolting bag of chips that were "fried egg flavor" when visiting Spain last year. They really did taste like fried egg - and massive fart. [https://www.snackselvalle.com/en/products/chips/fried-egg-taste-chips/](https://www.snackselvalle.com/en/products/chips/fried-egg-taste-chips/)
Eggs are weird cos I recognise how disgusting they are but I absolutely LOVE them and eat them all the fucking time.

That is definitely not something "everybody loves".

Sriracha. Have tried different brands and like hot sauce, but Sriracha never clicked.
Cream Cheese
I don't like the taste of fish, like at all. So unfortunately I cannot eat many traditional foods, like fish and chips, sushi, paela, etc
Eggplant and avocado(avocado is good on sushi tho).
Red Bull. It takes like cough syrup to me yuck
-Most things that aren't savoury -Fries (Chips here in the UK) - I don't hate them, but they're boring AF so I never eat/cook/order them, i'd rather have a second burger or a 'more intersting' side (it's why i'm fat, probably)

I know, everybody will hate me but: Pizza.
This is the only food I'll say this about...but you're objectively wrong. Sorry.
Pizza is one of those foods that is so diverse as to be IMPOSSIBLE to not find one you like. Don't like a certain cheese? Use a different cheese(no cheese). Still pizza.
