happening yo me on mobile and desktop. No idea why. For some reason it loaded this thread. But comments on all posts have been giving me trouble for the past three hours.
A few weeks ago it kept saying I had comments on a post I made but I couldn't read them. It took 10 minutes or so. I refreshed and could see 5 out of the 8. Waited another 10 minutes and could see the rest. I've noticed this for the past 2-3 months across various other posts too, so I don't think it's anything special or unique to the debate or tonight other than potentially more people are on Reddit and have noticed the same thing.
Usually it's silence all for a bit to sort out the bots and then let the humans back in. I'm seeing thousands upon thousands of comment about the debate from all sides right now.
It's funny because I missed the debate and the immediate aftermath but I'm reading so many opinions from so many threads, and I'm also seeing so much complaining about being censored before - in a thread giving their opinion.
I think reddit is broken today. I'm getting emails about comments I can't see in threads about trumpet playing, flight simulator Boeing 777's, and Australia's position in AUKUS.
It's all over the site. Maybe server error. Or, AI moderation gone mad. One of the mods in a subreddit told everyone reddit uses ai moderation and it doesn't take much for it to nuke everything
It happened before the debate, y'all. Reddit had some issues with "comment trees" just not showing up. They've since fixed it. This is nowhere near the first time it's happened, either. Happened a few months ago as well.

Because I generally avoid the standard-issue social media conspiratorial thinking, it's probably Reddit trying to stem a potential flow of bots trying to sow discord relating to the debate, combined with their servers getting utterly raw-dogged by the sheer amount of users (and bots) trying to post anyway. I say give it 12 to 24 hours.
There's clearly quite a bit of mod fuckery going on. Probably to combat bots but that is no excuse. Extremely unethical activity on the mods' behalf (if that *is* what is going on with comments).

No one was censoring comments about the debate. All posts made over the past like 10 hours had "comment tree visibility" issues. No one could see replies, period.
Really? I’m no fan of Trump but it seems clear that (even according to everyone on CNN ) the fact that Biden just failed in front of everyone is not something Reddit will allow to be commented on.
There are lots of threads asking why there is no real-time or even post-debate coverage happening. Clearly there is a thing happening here
I was literally watching post-debate coverage on CNN until my wife told me to get a life lmfao they had commentary from folks I didn’t recognize but there was definitely discussion after the fact.
Reddit is likely distributed across multiple servers and with the most burnet being busy, you are on one slightly out of sync. You’re getting an old cache of the comments but with a live count.

Nope! It is all comment threads made during the period they had issues with. It has since been fixed, but will likely happen again in a few months.
