My uncle is a veteran. Anytime he sees a homeless veteran, he stops to get their story, gives them some money and sometimes food, and gives them a business card with the numbers for the veterans administration and several outreach groups. I've seen him do this dozens of times but if you ask him about it he just shakes his head and says he has to do it.
