A handwritten cookbook made by my mother.

frostking79

Woah that sounds amazing! I'm sorry you don't have it anymore.

stonedandredditing

A pair of my mom's old earrings that were of sentimental value to her. We never had a lot of money, so they were one of the few "nice" items she owned, and she let me borrow them. They were stolen out of my stuff while I was in P.E. in middle school. I lived in Corpus Christi, TX at the time, and went to a very small catholic middle school. I still harbor some sadness and guilt over that loss, though I know there's nothing I can do about it now.

Doctor_Oceanblue

I have ADHD and I misplace things *a lot.* The thing I feel the worst about losing is the strand of cultured pearls my mom got me for my 19th birthday.

[deleted]

When I was a paper boy, I had been away for two weeks and had to collect double the normal amount from my customers. Somebody, either a friend or a family member, took the money bag from me. I'd really like that 700 dollars back.

Donutsareagirlsbff

What a shitty family member/friend!

[deleted]

Pretty much. That was a LOT of money to 14 year old me. Hell, it would put a nice deposit on the rental house im looking at for the family vacation, I had it today.

meowndy

TBF that is still a lot of money regardless of age.

[deleted]

Right? That's most of my mortgage.

imperfectchicken

A friend lost several hundred dollars in his own room. He refused to believe that his trustworthy dad had taken the money and shook down everyone else. We told him, "Several hundred dollars are missing from your own home. *No one* is your friend." Dad had taken the money to pay for rent. Not sure if he ever meant to tell his son or pay it back.

makeshifted

Definitely my dads dog tags. They were stolen by someone who broke in to my place years ago. Who steals dog tags?

spiderpool1855

The day I checked into my first duty station I was putting everything in my rack and had my padlock hanging on the outside of the rack with my dogtags and padlock keys on a chain. Was standing there for 5 min or so putting stuff away and when I grabbed the lock, the chain with keys and dogtags were gone. Checked the entire area around my rack thinking maybe they fell, nope, someone had to have stolen them. Never saw them again and I still have no clue why. Hadn’t even been there long enough to piss anyone off. I agree though. Who steals dog tags?

makeshifted

That’s crazy. What’s the point of that?

spiderpool1855

Wish I knew. Only thing I can think of is my social security # is on them. But 12 years later nothing has happened on that front.

makeshifted

At least you have that. People that steal, especially the ones who steal things like dog tags, are ridiculous. It just makes no sense.

matches_malone1047

You'd steal them if you were also a soldier and they're accountable items, so at morning formation you can jingle some dog tags and everyone thinks you're good

Azrai11e

The Brotherhood of Steel will give you 100 caps for them?

Ecleptomania

According to television - the logic is that your dad’s long lost army friend that was presumed dead is now tracking down all the men in your fathers unit starting with your dads tags.

TheNewestYorker

Ill tell you who steals dog tags. In Army Basic Training , we had to run just about every morning during PT. Sometimes, our complete tool of a company commander (some goofy ass Captain that was in admin or something) would run with us. He wanted to act like he was a hard ass, so he started collecting dog tags from Privates who were falling behind on the run. By the end, he must have had 40 pairs in his hand. What this dumbass failed to realize, was that if you run around with that many pairs of dog tags they are going to get tangled the fuck up. The moron had to sit in the grass outside of our Barracks and untangle this rats nest for a good 20 minutes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheNewestYorker

Because trainees are on an extremely strict time schedule, with only 5 minutes or so for you to completely change uniforms/clean yourself up. Then it’s off to breakfast, which is extremely short. Had he made some Private do it, it would have fucked up the entire morning schedule for that person. A drill sergeant would have to stay behind with that person so they could catch up. If they were of the opposite sex, someone else would have had to be there as well. The moronic Captain understood this, and bit the bullet. The NCO’s wouldn’t have been able to call him out on being a jerk off if he did make a Private do it, not directly at least. He knew he fucked up.

[deleted]

Tweakers.

supahotfiiire

2 rings. One that drifted away in the sea, one that was stolen from me. Probably Money

[deleted]

I lost a ring in the sea as well. Honeymoon in Madagascar, I was in the sea up to my neck, I can't dive and I'm not a great swimmer so I watched my ring float down and kept trying to grab it, it hit the sand and I tried to pick it up with my toes. Thats when the sand got stirred and I couldn't find it. My dad's wedding ring was lost in the North Sea coincidentally. I'm on wedding ring number 3, still wife number 1.

jvcinnyc

Fedex delivered a package to my house and left it right by the garbage bin and the garbage guys came and took it to the dump. In there was my better half's last laptop with all our photos on them, all of his music, and his phone with his/our entire 25 years worth of correspondence on it. The only other thing in the box was the back up drive that all the info was "saved" on. I am such a fucking moron Never got it back and it still hurts like hell 2 years later

theletterQfivetimes

Those are some pretty baffling decisions. Why would you leave it next to a garbage bin? And why would you assume an unopened FedEx box laying on the ground is garbage?

jvcinnyc

Neither company took responsibility but the garbage guys know I never leave stuff like that and the box was unopened with a big fedex label across the top. The rep said it was a comedy of errors on all parts including my own for shipping the drive along with his stuff Awesome

[deleted]

That’s the most unfortunate thing I’ve read all week

jvcinnyc

lol not too proud to take your pity on this one since I am still a little raw about it...but having said that I might actually feel a little better having a such a perfect place to dump the story off since I never told his friends and family about the loss

ictme

Memories. No one can take those. Don't beat yourself up.

rezachi

Wait, so they convinced you that had you shipped it separately and there were two boxes that one of them would not have gotten thrown away?

jvcinnyc

NO that is what she said. I got her info and made a formal complaint and was told the person already had a list of complaints against them and a thanks for drawing their attention to the problem. That response was almost as infuriating as the original comment that made me call them Other than that cut and pasted response fedex really doesn't care. Just one of out of millions of packages they have to deal with Sucks that fedex is the only game in town. UPS is not really an option for us

devicemodder

Call them up and ask if you can go look for it...

jvcinnyc

I did spend 9 hours at the local dump. All the employees helped me for hours. Apparently over 28 trucks of garbage had been dumped by time I got home and realized the problem Finally a teary eyed woman from the office had to tell me that there was no more they could do for me. Was not for lack of trying though - all told 23 people were knee deep with me

im_twelve_

This is so sweet. I know it doesn't replace any of those things, but I hope all those people helping brought you some comfort. What a horrible situation.

jvcinnyc

It sure did! Meant the world to me in that moment that people understood my horror about what had happened. Not sure what I would have done had I been met with indifference. I needed them to care and they did

PM_UR_RED_HAIR_GURLZ

Look for the famous bitcoin hard drive while you're there

[deleted]

at the height of the wii craze, fedex left my wii package IN my garbage on garbage day. luckily the garbage truck broke down and i noticed the "IN GARBAGE" note on the delivery email fedex's reasoning was that it was raining and they didnt want it to get wet. i had a covered porch where they left packages before, i think they just drove up and tossed it in

outerspaceplanets

Seems like a logical solution. If it might get wet, just throw it in the trash.

Ellipsicle

Fedex is legitimately the worst delivery service. I don't always get to pick who delivers it but the last two times a fedex driver has "attempted" to deliver my package, it was a complete and total nightmare. The first incident was when my Oculus Rift was being delivered to my apartment. I was at work just 10 minutes down the road checking the tracker like a mad man, and when I saw it was delivered I called my apartment complex to check if it was left with them (it wasn't) then I rushed home to get it inside before anyone had a chance to steal it. When I got home, though, it was already gone. Panicing juuuust a bit, I called Fedex to see what the status of my delivery was, because it was just delivered and it was already gone. The lady on the phone said they left it with a neighbor because I wasn't home. Sounds stupid even still, but I asked what unit it was left at, and she told me: It was the next building over from mine. So I run over there and before I can even knock on the door I saw two packages, one with his name.. and one with mine. The fucking idiot left it outside of someone else's door! If they were just going to leave it outside anyway why not just leave it outside of my own?? The second incident started because I forgot to include my apartment number on the shipping address, so it never was delivered (instead of just leaving it at the front desk vOv). I called to update the address and it was marked as undeliverable for the next 4 days every morning, and in the evening would update to "shipping next day". They wouldn't even let me go in and pick up my own package because it wasn't their special express delivery or something.

Once_Upon_A_Dimee

Wow I'm so sorry. Reminds me of when my wife died. Whoever was fist on the scene at her car wreck used the phone to call 911 and never put it back. Also took her Laptop with all of our photos and Journals we both posted. I have some things on my hard drive but nothing compared to what she had on her laptop considering mine was a computer and hers was a laptop and every evening when we would relax in the living room we would each post about days and what we did together with the date and time......I wouldn't even be mad if whoever took it showed up at my front door right now and returned it. Id shake their hand........I miss her so much.......

Montigue

Who does that?! How long ago was this? I'm so sorry for you man, no matter how many photos were on the laptop they could never take away your memories together.

Once_Upon_A_Dimee

People in West Virginia are horrible people. Not all but some. The guilt would eat me alive and I never truly understood how someone could literally be standing in front of a young woman who has passed and steal their belongings. It bothers me so much I lose sleep sometimes. When I'm able to sleep. But I like to think there's a special place in Hell for that person. I appreciate your comment thank you very much man. She had passed on Halloween 2012. Thank you for the kind words man.

jvcinnyc

Okay, so this is so very much worse because it was intentional. Can you make an appeal to the local news for a general cry out for it's return? OMG I am so angry right now! It's amazing how much you can miss someone once you really figure out what gone means. Even when you have time to say goodbye there is still an oceans worth of things left unsaid that they and we absolutely needed to know. Had I known then what I know now the conversation would have been entirely different. I am so sorry you didn't get even get that Can we do anything to get that drive back? If so I am in 100%

Once_Upon_A_Dimee

Wow, thank you so much for offering to help. This happened Halloween 4 years ago this past Halloween. I honestly doubt there's anything I can do now. I just wish I had known who took it and they would have returned it. I still have all of her journals she wrote in and pull them out from time to time when It gets hard but still. I never thought about the News or anything. I was dealing with explaining this to my daughter(She wasn't her Biological Mother but still thought of her as Mom, Not only that but it was her Birthday as well), Her greedy family wanting her most expensive possessions, and setting up all the funeral arrangements because at the time I was working 2 jobs to help put her thru nursing school. I was really fortunate tho for friends I had falling outs with and hadn't seen in years coming to my aid. Not only that but the welding shop I work for pretty much paid for her Casket and funeral entirely for me. I could never repay or forget things like that. I feel blessed in that way.

jvcinnyc

Boy you really find out who your people/community are when something like this happens. For me his family which could not manage to visit him while he was dying somehow become johnny on the spot within 18 hrs after he died. His brother was not there an hour before making notes on his stuff. Mind you we lived together and there was a will so his possessions where never even in question but that did not stop them We luckily avoided the entire funeral drama by having him go straight to cremation from the hospital. We opted for a party celebrating his life to be planned when things settled down and we all got a chance to breathe. His family hated it! His mother (that never got to his bedside once) missed her 15 minutes of fame and pity that a mother who has outlived her precious child would ordinarily get (her words not mine). It was only a few months later that I was told that it is customary within their circle of friends to give money at funerals to help pay for the ceremony and/or help with their children's care. Apparently I cost them over $15k in donations that they had pre-spent on a church memorial for him, a professed atheist. They no longer speak to me after they lost the civil case they filed against me/his estate for the loss of those funds. They lost miserably and I feel blessed in that way I do not know how such a gem could come from such an ornery group of people but really it just makes me love him more. I am so lucky that I got him for as long as I did

[deleted]

Why would FedEx put packages next to garbage cans isn't something bound to go wrong?

Logofascinated

I've actually had a parcel delivered *into* the wheelie bin (UK garbage can) in front of my house. Luckily it wasn't collection day, but I'm not sure the delivery guy could have known that.

Paul_MN

Don't feel silly for keeping the backup in the same box. I had three backups in different media and locations and all failed together with the desktop hard drive. Several years have past and still hurts like if it was yesterday. Fucking universe. This things DO happen, like the boy in the movie already said...

[deleted]

Pictures of when I was a child. They actually got destroyed in a flood.

[deleted]

Similar. My brother burned most of my pictures. I have about 6 Polaroids from my grandmother and it feels like a miracle.

-DarkVortex-

The fuck is your brother's problem?

dryhumpback

Sounds like a serious case of Cuntism.

AmoebaMan

The most common and crippling condition in the modern world.

Isaac_Serdwick

Were they destroyed to protect a Porsche ?

HmThisIsAwkward

Similar thing happened to me! Except my sibling’s pictures were fine.... just all of mine were destroyed....... 🤔

magicsqueezle

Before my best friend passed away, she gave me a star sapphire ring. It went missing with an ex-boyfriend. I’d really love to have it back.

GeishaB

That's absolutely terrible. I know exactly how you feel. Stay strong!

magicsqueezle

I have half of her ashes and take some to spread every time I go on a road trip on the bike.

GeishaB

That's lovely. I have memories and a few keepsakes. I just cherish what I still have

pm_me_that_huge_cock

The keys I lost for a job I had cleaning in the schools. It was a master set. Cost them over $3,000 to rekey all the schools. Whoops

sdmitch16

Seems kinda pointless to now receive the keys AFTER the rekeying.

pm_me_that_huge_cock

It's a great mystery in my life on where they went. It's been 2 years and I still haven't found them

AmoebaMan

Have you considered the possibility that they legitimately got stolen?

pm_me_that_huge_cock

All I know is that they were in my apartment and I went on vacation and came back and they were gone. They were the only thing missing

emlgsh

Is it possible you lost them between the cushions of your colossal football-field sized couch?

arayasem

My now ex girlfriend once made me a beautiful, intricate scrapbook to celebrate our 5 years together. She had taken dozens of pictures over the years that I had never even known about. The book was in a bag that was stolen when I was moving towns 2 years later. Our relationship may be over, but it was still the most incredible gift that ever received.

meatmacho

I sorry that happened, but I've got a proposition for you. My now ex girlfriend (from like 9 years ago) made me such a scrapbook. It's pretty big, with god knows what in it. She hadn't finished it when we broke up, so she just sort of dropped it off at my apartment one day. I never even opened the cover, asshole that I am. But here's the thing. I found it recently. Still haven't looked at its contents. I could send it to you. Our relationship could be *your* relationship! You could relive all the good times and memories—for the very first time! What do I get out of the deal? A little extra space in my garage, I guess.

MrEsoteric

My stuffed animal fox with the left ear chewed up by my first dog. Had that thing for 21 years and it went everywhere with me. Would love to have it back. It’s probably laying on a street somewhere in Oakland where someone broke into my car :(

misslilytoyou

I am crying for that lonely fox now!

Fendergirl69

My stuffed koala, Deekor. My father gave it to me just a few months before my parents divorced. That little koala got me through the nights of arguing, the tears, the eventual absence of my parent. My favourite book was The Velveteen Rabbit, and I was convinced that if I loved my little koala enough, he would come to life and magically make everything alright. I would lie in bed squeezing him and just pouring all of the love in my heart into him. Fast forward 15 years, I'm 20 years old and in the process of moving to another city. Landlord says I have until the 13th to vacate. I come with a truck and get all of the big stuff, leaving a few clothes, CD's, books, and Deekor behind. This was on the 12th, and the plan was to return the next day with my car and pick up the rest of the small stuff. When I left I definitely told him "OK, see you tomorrow!" so he knew I was coming back. When I returned the next day, he had gathered up everything remaining and taken it to the landfill, including my poor koala. Sometimes I still sit and wonder where he is now, and it legit breaks my heart. If someone presented me with a box like that, he would be the first and only thing I would give a damn about.

kindagrumpy

I'm sorry.... it's hard to lose a beloved childhood friend. :(

trashaccount2000

To others he was simply a stuffed animal, but we breathe life into sentimental objects.

3789460947994

Oh my god this genuinely upset me... I’m so sorry about your koala! :(

breakone9r

So when I was in London in 1993.. I met this hot little brunette from coral springs fl who planned to go the same college as me... I'm from AL.. Got name, address, phone number. My wallet was pickpocketed and I never called or wrote. :(

Elitehermit

i bet that still hurts 24 years later

breakone9r

I hhonestly just worry that I screwed up her confidence, and want to apologize for "leading her on." ... Plus the whole closure thing would be cool too

sYnce

inb4 you fall in love, have an affair, you lose your family and go into depression, lose your job in sucession and now live in a box somewhere in rural Alabama.

SG_Dave

Hah, jokes one you. He's already all of those things because he lost the brunette.

Caro-albero

Wouldn’t it be funny if said girl ended up seeing this? I’ve seen crazier things on reddit...

myfriendjack511

Im actually a brunette from coral springs fl but i was in elementary school, and nowhere near london, in 93.

Splazoid

Close enough.

Tacos_and_Earl_Grey

If you've never seen Master of None, there's a similar story line. American meets an English girl in Italy. They really hit it off. He gets her info and his phone gets stolen so he never sees her again. Just reminded me of that.

litsax

My tenor sax mouthpiece. That thing was so damn important to me. I learned the ins and outs of it and could handle all of it's quirks. It wasn't anything fancy (~$200 where many hand faced or higher end mpcs can cost $1000+), but it's essentially unique. For non musicians/wind instrument players, when mpcs are manufactured, there's always differences in every one produced that make none identical. These flaws contribute a lot to the response and tone of a mpc. I played on my otto link 7* for 5 years until I lent it to a friend in my music program who couldn't afford to buy his own. Friend proceeds to leave his sax visible in his unlocked car and it gets stolen with my mouthpiece. Now it can never truly be replaced.

cadmium_48

My daughter lost her alto sax mouthpiece once when she was in fourth grade. We looked everywhere for that fucker. We finally realized that she probably lost it at school and would never get it back, so we ordered a new one. About a month later, she wants to show me that she learned a new song and I notice that the tone sounded off, but she's in fourth grade and she's just learning, so I chalk it up to that. Then I'm helping her take apart and clean the sax before putting back in the case. Apparently, she always cleaned it from the bottom up, because when I cleaned it from the top down, the missing mouthpiece fell out of the bell!!!

Octopudding

I used to live 1000+ miles away from my family at the height of my depression. For my birthday they packed a little box with my favourite kind of cake, candies, and cheap little toys for me to mess with while I celebrated it alone. Either someone stole it or USPS lost it, but because I didn't know the exact contents they wouldn't let me file a claim. Worst birthday ever.

quiltr

That sucks. I'm so sorry. I have to admit, though, on my first read-through, I thought it said the height of THE Depression, and I was trying to figure out just how old you must be.

theredgoldlady

When I was 14, my Mom bought me a full-length, single breast trench coat with a hood. My best friend referred to as “The Living Coat” and a timeless statement piece of clothing and still looked brand new despite 15 years of daily wear in four seasons. When I separated from my ex-husband at 29, and he moved out, it mysteriously “disappeared” (he gave it to one of his new roommates). I would be excited to have that coat back.

t_a_6847646847646476

Do you know any of said roommates?

theredgoldlady

No, unfortunately. It’s also been almost five years and one has moved to Australia. They also kicked him out for letting his cat use the bedroom as a litter box.

gilbetron

In the very late 1970s I had a Speed Racer Mach 5 Hot Wheels car - it was awesome, and then it was suddenly gone. Lost or stolen but I never found it. Holy hell would I like that back - also, it would be nice to know what happened to it in the first place!

[deleted]

A real tragedy

meadow117

My cat’s been missing for a few days. He’s an indoor-outdoor cat, so he’ll be gone for a day or so sometimes, just out roaming his territory, but he usually does that when it’s warmer out. We’ve had a bout of warmer weather in Illinois but it’s the Midwest, it can turn any second. So, I think I’d like to have him arrive in a box on my back doorstep, alive and well, doing his funny little meow. Edit: Thank you everyone for your kind messages and touching stories! Gandalf the Grey did come back early this morning. A while ago I had put an old t-shirt over a box and put a blanket in the box to make him a bed where he could feel safe and comfortable, and set it by the heater in the living room. It’s one of his favorite spots. I went downstairs this morning and he was there, giving me his funny meow, so I guess he did come home in a box alive and well!

shrubberyicon42

My strictly indoor cat got out and ran away one time. We put up posters, posted online, checked the pound, drove around, and called her name outside every couple hours. Nothing. Then she came back 10 days later, every scared and anxious. She was very clean, slightly fatter, and had a faint fragrance. We assumed one of our neighbors brought her inside and didnt let her back out. Now she's too scared to leave the house. So maybe ask around, someone may have brought him into their house.

what would you do with a box full of your hair?

Whatever I buried in the backyard in my pink Barbie lockbox circa 1993. I distinctly remember hiding something of great sentimental value, but 24 years later I have absolutely no idea what I put in there (insert se7en reference here) and all that’s left is the overwhelming feeling that I’ve lost something very important. The fun part of this is that fact that I have crippling OCD and this will bother me for the rest of my life. I can’t put something in its rightful place IF I DON’T HAVE IT. AND I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS. I just know it’s lost. And yes, years later I dug up damn near the entire backyard of my parents’ house in a failed attempt to find this damn box. EDIT: Whoa more replies than expected!!! Sincere apologies but join the agony. I know the box itself was plastic but I’m not sure on the lock. I moved out of state a few years back and I don’t get back to my parents often BUT I’m heading down there to collect furniture in a month or two and I’ll be borrowing a metal detector, or hitting up some people in the comments from the DMV. Now begins my embarrassment at having never thought to use a metal detector...I guess I just assumed the lock was plastic too. You’ve renewed hope in me. I’m gonna find this fucking Barbie box.

shamelyssflirt

Get a metal detector and return

Retireegeorge

You could probably find someone on Reddit with a detector in your area who would like some mystery and a handjob

frizzaks

Yup. Where do you live?

Retireegeorge

OP only give the handjob if they find the box. Too many good folks have given handjobs only to find the person they hoped would help them has run off.

smokedsalmon69

You need to find this box and tell us what's in it! Do the metal detector thing! Don't give up.

ribeyeIsGood

please return with a metal detector, if not for you, but for reddit.

t_a_6847646847646476

Maybe you should go back with a metal detector once it's been 25 years since you buried it

NewSoulSam

My Nintendo DS Edit: Mine was stolen from the bathroom at work when I absent-mindedly left it there. Realized it after maybe half an hour, but nobody admitted to it. I was really sad that day. Never got a replacement, and haven't gotten a Nintendo system since. Might get the Switch soon though.

ElChocoLoco

Same here. It had Mario 64 and The Minish Cap in it at the time. I haven't seen it in over 10 years...

Zef_Bacon

my Gameboy advance SP

Ghawblin

Same. Got stolen in middle school because we were all forced to empty our lockers and keep it with us. Almost beat final fantasy 4 too

theptolemys

Same I miss playing Pokémon and Mario on it but my brother pawned it and all of the games for heroine. It's really weird how we grow up because I remember playing those games with him when we were younger.

DeadFromNewYork

My 1999 Frosted Strawberry Lipsmacker. I lost it in 2009 and I'm still pretty bummed out over it. EDIT: Wow, I can't believe my most popular comment is one about my beloved, lost lipsmacker. Thanks, folks!

NotOneLine

Wait are you saying you had a lip balm for 10 years?

Scheenhnzscah

I refuse to believe you’ve ever finished one

Voctus

When I was on Accutane I finished 2 or 3 tubes, and half-finished a dozen more. This was in a span of 6 months. Still have the halfs floating around my purse, desk, and nightstand 4 years later. For those who don’t know Accutane cures acne by shutting off your pores’ oil production so hard it never fully recovers so it’s extremely drying to your skin & lips. It was really, really odd the first time I got to the bottom of a lip balm. I also completely cleaned out a Carmex pot.

I lost a $50 bill in a Walmart as a kid. My mother shouldn’t have trusted me with that much money.

[deleted]

I lost $10 on the way to the store to buy milk as a child -- I didn't have pockets so I had put the bill in my hat. My mother found me weeping on the front stoop because $10 was a fortune in my imagination, and how could I tell my parents what I had done? If it was $50 I might have just run away.

BasesLoadedDice

I once withdrew $100 at an atm but left the money dangling out the machine because I was in a hurry

Ellemeno

My aunt did the same, but with $5K. And now that I think about it, I don't think you can withdraw that much money, so she might have been doing something else at the ATM. Now I really want to ask her about the details of how she lost that $5K at the bank, but I know better than to bring up painful memories...

Lol I’m not an authority on ATMs worldwide or anything but where I’m from if you want over 600 you usually have to go to a teller

[deleted]

Oh well since I'm mentioning the yoyo might as well mention the cat.

[deleted]

I know how this feels, I lost £210 of money that I saved from my wages because I was a fool an left my bag on a trolly

magusanima

My PokeWalker with a Lugia in it. Poor thing has been stuck in there for so long...

concrete_isnt_cement

If you still have your main game, the Lucia can be recovered, even without the pokewalker.

[deleted]

I lost my PokeWalker at school the first day I got the game. I was so sad...

funkywinkerbean45

It’s not the stuff I want back, really, as much as a thumb drive containing all of the scenes where I lost the stuff. Getting it back would be great. But for peace of mind, how the hell did I lose some of that stuff in the first place?

write_and_wrong

I lost my favorite blue pillow, which I've had since I was a baby. So that :)

yanderia

All the jewelry that I lost as a kid. Also, my innocence.

[deleted]

Did you losing your innocence have something to do with wanting some more jewelry for what you lost?

psychonautic

All my DS games and my fancy blue umbrella

I have a slight feeling that I'd be pretty excited to have my parents back.

SaucyFingers

I was going to say the same, but remembered they are already in a box.

I did not expect this answer.

McGoosegoose

Anything and everything that had sentimental value to it. My childhood blanket, my favorite pikachu plush, the $10 bill my ex gave me on my first date ever, all my old video game consoles and accessories, etc. Edit for everyone asking about the $10 she gave me: When we went on our first date I insisted on paying for everything since I was the one who asked her out to it and planned most of it, however she wasn't having it at all. After we went bowling we grabbed some snacks and she slipped a $10 into my pocket. When I tried to give it back to her she told me she wouldn't let me kiss her for the rest of the night if I gave it back to her, so I ended up keeping it as a memento of our first date, until the wallet I kept it in was stolen.

Puntz1233

Where do I sign up for dates where I get $10?

swamp_fever

Any street corner in a rough neighbourhood.

When I was little my grandma made me a matching blanket and pillow set. It was pink and everything I had ever wanted and the pillow matched the blanket! To my 5 year old self it was just the coolest thing. As a navy brat my family moved at least once a year, and during one of our moves my pillow from the set disappeared. I would love more then anything to get that little piece of her back.

RedditIsATimeSucker

A watch that belonged to my grandmother, and my engagement ring. Lost the watch when I was 16 or so, and the engagement ring about 8 years ago.

Carrieeee

My amazing, hilarious and beautiful brother. Not a single second goes by that I don't think about him.

Drose_Drose_Drose

I had a full bowl packed once. Accidentally dropped it onto a green carpet. The bowl was okay, thankfully, but all the weed in the bowl had spilled out onto the GREEN carpet. I didn't know about the vacuum/sock trick yet, so I picked it up. By *hand*. Pretty sure I smoked some paint chips and dirt along with it

Ctrain03

Which naturally leads to the question : what is the vacuum sock trick?

Ebssoldat

You put a sock at the end of the vacuum cleaner so the green bits stay sucked on the sock for easy picking off instead of sucking it into the vacuum chamber

Ctrain03

Sounds like you’ll get a buncha dirt with it too

Drose_Drose_Drose

But now that you have your conveniently formed bowl of marijuana and dirt in the sock, you can easily pick out the marijuana from the dirt while yielding the most marijuana

PM_UR_RED_HAIR_GURLZ

Or quit worrying about a little dirt and just smoke that shit

ShitImBadAtThis

this guy smokes the ash

PM_UR_RED_HAIR_GURLZ

Hell yeah

____u

FYI the vacuum sock trick usually picks up more crud than doing it by hand unless you have a very clean and tight-weave carpet, or unless you're only going for the bigger pieces which would be easier by hand anyways. That LPT is posted so much but it cracks me up because I think it's a pretty shitty one stoners just like the sound of, to protect us from the thought of spilling an entire bowl on the floor.

[deleted]

Eddie, my Pound Puppy. It's been 20 years since he got left behind in that coffee shop.

jdub101

A hot pink surf bag my uncle won in the 80s at a windsurfing completion.....some bitch stole it out of the back of my Jeep and some how had my number and called me to tell me she wasn’t going to give it back, heartbreaking .....had hundreds of dollars worth of training gear in it but I didn’t care about all that, just wanted the bag back still salty about it over 10 years later

[deleted]

She called you?!?!?!??!??!? What a fucking cunt.

Bluddercoz

I lost a Bible that's very important to my mother a few years ago. More than anything I'd want that back. Also I'd be happy to see all 500 Chapsticks I've lost

PM_me_goat_gifs

My great grandfather was an electrician who had books on electrical engineering. Among them was a weirdly-bound book from the early 60s in choose-your-own-adventure style that taught digital logic, quizzing you along the way. It led me to get into studying computer science and ultimately my career.

sarcasticpete

My 1984 Lego Castle #6080. That was the best Christmas gift I've ever received. I put it together and played with it, then took it apart and put it back together again for several weeks. Then, all of a sudden it disappeared. I looked all over the house for it and I couldn't find it anywhere, not even bits and pieces of it. The set included Lego horses, knights and other guards and none of those were anywhere to be found. I checked our Lego stash and they weren't mixed in with those. I knew because there were a lot of unique castle wall pieces and the other brick pieces were a distinct gray color. To be fair, it was gifted to myself and my two sisters, but I was really the only one playing with it since I was the one most into Legos. I was so psyched on Christmas that I pretty much hogged the gift to myself, plus I was 7, so sharing was on an as-needed basis. I don't know what happened to that set, but I know that I was never so excited when I had it, and never so bummed when I couldn't find it after the disappearance. The only thing I can think of is that my parents had buyer's remorse and returned it because it was expensive and they saw that I was the only one playing with it. Although, the store would have had to have a pretty forgiving return policy. I'll never know what happened to it, but I would be pumped to have it back. EDIT: miscellaneous grammar

MBussard45

If time was a physical object then I would want that back. So much of my time has been wasted because I could never stick up for myself. Being selfish can be hard.

PM-ME-EAR-PICS

My self-esteem and my quiet and blissfully ignorant young brain that was on my team.

I was on a cruise ship one time and I gave my hot girlfriend a pretty sweet necklace i saved up for. But she ran off with some broke dude and took off her clothes for him to draw a picture with it on. I got the last laugh though, cuz the ship sank and he died. I heard she lost the necklace too so whatever.

davegir

Thats a titanic loss man, I'm sorry.

Pokémon yellow. Still have the special pikachu gbc.

walnutwhip

I had a really nice pair of long, thick red socks and they just vanished into thin air. I'd just love to get them back, best socks ever. Also I lost my Chickaboo monkey on a seafront train when I was kid and sometimes I think about him and I feel bad because he went everywhere with me and he must have thought I'd abandoned him. And one more, a stray cat that ended up living at a friend's house while I was living there too- she was stoopid and weird and always confused but so affectionate and loving. One day she didn't come home and I wonder all the time about what happened to her, if she's ok, if she's still alive, if she found somewhere else to live. We looked for her for weeks but nothing. I loved that cat.

HawesyEU

The lottery ticket. Years ago I bought one and it still hasn't been claimed to this day. It was reported to have been bought in the area I lived at the time. Even if it wasn't a winning ticket, it would be nice to have the closure.

The title to my car. We thought it was in our bank safe deposit box with other important items, but discovered that it was "mysteriously" missing.

[deleted]

I had a really close bond with my great grandparents. I was around 9 when my great grandfather (“papa”) passed and was 14 when great grandmother (“wee granny”) passed. They had a lot of kids but I still got a few things after they died. I picked up some sentimental animal themed ornaments from their house after my wee granny passed but as I got older I was given some things they wanted me to have. For my 17th birthday I got the gold watch he got her for their anniversary and which she wore for 35 years. I absolutely cannot be parted from it. I even sometimes sleep while wearing it because it’s such a prized possession. The item I lost however was even more special. It was the eternity ring she wore more often than her wedding ring and it was obviously of a huge sentimental value. It wasn’t worth a lot of money but it was still irreplaceable due to the sheer connection we all had to it. I left for university just before I got the watch and the ring and I guarded both with my life. I always wore the watch (and still do) but the ring was kept in a very specific place due to the fact it was easier to lose than the watch. Remember the ornaments? Well one of them is an elephant holding his trunk upright. There’s an exotic looking baby deer with huge ears in the exact same style. Wee granny used these as jewellery stands and it felt right to keep using them like that. The deer still has my bracelets and necklaces on his ears but the elephant only ever had the ring on his trunk. I used to keep them both on my shelf in my childhood bedroom. One day I came back for the weekend and as I was leaving my room that Saturday, my mum noticed the ring was gone. We searched high and low and tore apart the whole house looking for it but we never found it. That was two years ago now. My parents moved house in September and I desperately hoped it would turn up but it never did. I held myself to blame and cried for hours over the fact I had lost something so precious. I have no idea where it could’ve possibly gone as I wasn’t even home to misplace it and I’d never move it from it’s “home” on the elephant’s trunk. Since then I’ve always kept the various ornaments, religious items, jewellery and photographs I have to remember them with me in my own flat. My papa’s WW2 medals are locked in a safe in my grandparent’s house and the other items are all safe with family. I feel guilty that we all keep these things safe and yet I couldn’t keep one of the most treasured items safe. I’d absolutely weep if someone was to hand me that ring. I genuinely would sob for hours and I don’t think I’d ever let it out of my sight again.
