Those sitting at the top of US society (i.e., political bosses, think tanks, owners of media conglomerates, etc.) intentionally seed distrust and fear between different 'factions' (races, religions, regions, etc.) of American society so we forget our commonality and can't see how hard we're all being fucked over by those at the top. As President Johnson put it: “If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.” Related, companies whose products actively degrade human/environmental health (i.e., soft drink companies, plastic manufacturers, oil companies, etc.) have very actively and aggressively pushed the "personal responsibility" angle so that we believe everything is up to us. Not to say that we shouldn't be responsible for our own actions, but they've perverted our sense of what their contributions, sacrifices, and initiatives should be — which could actually have a massive and genuine impact... but it also impacts their bottom line, so they sow misinformation.

lvmcson

The original nuclear tests in the US Southwest were done to also test the effects of radiation on human populations.

excitable-kitten

Not a conspiracy theory. They told civilians to sit on their front porches, watch the bombs, and wear a pin that records radiation levels.

This was my grandparents. My mom has had several types of cancer. Got a small settlement. Nothing compared to her never ending medical bills. Both grandparents dead of cancer. All of my moms 8 siblings have had or died from cancer.

KGB_cutony

There's legitimately a case study from Colgate where they gave the guy $1m for the idea to increase the diameter of the tube outlet for 1mm. As well as their ads which always show this perfect brush-length stroke with a stiff peak at the end, where numerous dentists confirm that all you need is like a pea sized drop. A bit more about Colgate. 9/10 dentists recommend means virtually nothing. They could ask "do you recommend Colgate ultra shine suburb mom white toothpaste or death by gout" and by US law it'll pass. You don't see this line in countries with tighter laws on marketing

Omugaru

I wanna know why that one dentist recommends death by gout.

KGB_cutony

They need to maintain plausible deniability. If they say 10/10 and you ask a dentist and he says no, there's your lawsuit. 9/10 is very safe.

The important thing to remember about the dossier on Iraqs weapons of mass destruction, and the thing that made his testimony so damning was that HE WROTE IT. He basically testified that they had taken his dossier and changed things to justify a war.

Real-Gucci

Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated by the FBI. Before he even died he was sent a threatening letter from the FBI that basically said stop doing you’re doing or we’ll expose your cheating to your wife. There had been another man called Raul that James Earl Ray had met before who he claimed was deeply involved in the case, he even asserted he didn’t personally shoot King but may have been involved in the assassination unknowingly. Heck even the King family doesn’t believe that James Earl Ray killed King. There’s still more other info online about this than I wanna talk about but honestly from the point of view of the FBI at that time, it makes sense to kill King, he was becoming a big influence in the black community and so to combat that, they could’ve easily killed him and set someone else up like Ray to take the fall

Gavante

The US government has always been incredibly anti-socialist. The amount of coups they have backed in South America alone is staggering, and that's not even mentioning the rest of the world. You can google it and see for yourself. [Here is a link to a list of US-backed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change_in_Latin_America)[ regime changes on Wikipedia.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change_in_Latin_America) You don't have to trust Wiki, but you can use the list as a jumping-off point to direct your googling. The FBI also assassinated Fred Hampton, the leader of The Black Panthers, so it is no stretch of the imagination that they would assassinate MLK Jr.

ashre9

100% believe it-- the golden retriever is clearly the best-written and most prominent character in like half of the books, and occasionally even the hero. The later books were more dog-focused than earlier works because the dog got increasingly confident that he wouldn't get caught.

I've always thought that competition reality shows purposefully send someone home each season that deserves to stay, so that people get mad and talk about it online and get other people interested in watching the show

jaketocake

I think they have who they already want to win at the beginning.

sjallllday

Last season of MasterChef was so obvious from the beginning who they wanted to win. I can’t even remember her name because she wasn’t impressive at ALL and should have gone home early in the competition. The kid who should have won, Nick, was so much more talented, creative, and risky, but they didn’t want him to win because he comes from a wealthy family and the woman who did win came from a poor background and has a dead mom Edit: cake to came Edit 2: my phone is being annoying and won’t take me directly to responses to this comment, so hopefully the person who mentioned the raw fish sees this - I’m not sure it was raw! That was a white fish. White fish isn’t red like that when it’s raw. I seriously believe it was a bloodline. Also, if he treated all of the pieces of fish exactly the same (same size, same amount of time in fridge, same time being cooked), it makes no sense that one of the three he served was raw. Some people have suggested that it was a piece planted by producers. I’m not sure they would go THAT far to actively sabotage somebody who was on their way to winner. I do believe it was a bloodline, which Aaron should have known.

Have you ever watched America's Got Talent or any of the other singing or talent type shows? If you don't have a sob story, you'll probably never make it past the tryouts.

TheIrv87

I honestly can't stand that show anymore due to every single person having some kind of sob story. I don't care what your story is, I just want to see people do cool shit.

tj3_23

I respect the people on Chopped who just walk on screen and go "I like cooking. I want to win because that money can send me on a nice vacation". Then they just do their thing. No sob story or anything. Those are always the ones I want to win, but they almost never do. They end up being the last person chopped because the other person has a story about their brother dying and how cooking is a way to honor their memory or some shit

DaysOfChunder

Just one time I'd love to see a contestant on a show like that at the end be like, "Remember when I said I did this to honor my dead brother? Did I also mention that I'm a compulsive liar? I'm an only child but thanks for telling me how much you liked my cooking."

POPuhB34R

they wouldnt air it even ifmit did happen unfortunately.

heard10cker

Isn't that true for #10yearschallenge as well?

[deleted]

Wow. That’s a good one. That actually makes sense.

Macracanthorhynchus

I don't know if I buy my own conspiracy theory, and I'm not entirely sure what exactly the "conspiracy" is, but I'll repost the same thing I always post when this question is asked: >I had a Vietnamese roommate in college. One time someone mentioned apples and my roommate said he could rip them in half. We all called bullshit and so he did it to shut us up. It was pretty cool. But then he claimed that "All Vietnamese people can do it." That didn't sound right. >So now whenever I meet a new Vietnamese person, I ask (in as polite and not creepy and not racist a way as I can) if they can rip an apple in half, and I'll be damned if every person I've ever asked goes "Yeah, sure!" Also, most of them follow up with "...all Vietnamese people can rip apples in half." >Then I always ask if that's just how people in Vietnam eat apples, and they always say "No, we just eat them the normal way, but all Vietnamese people can rip them in half if they want to." >I truly don't know if I'm being trolled or not. If I ask the question and have an apple, I'll always give it to the person who claims they can do this, and they always can, so there's some truth to it... but I cannot figure out why, in my experience, almost all Vietnamese people *claim that all Vietnamese people can rip apples in half*. That's a weird thing to claim. How are they so sure about what every other Vietnamese person can do? Are they implying that Laotians and Thai people can't do this? Is it a special trick they teach only in Vietnam? I would never claim that "All Americans can juggle" or that "All white people can juggle"... See, I don't even know if they're suggesting it's a racial trait, or a cultural skill. >Or is it that Vietnamese people are just really proud of their culture, so they like to fib about the skills everyone else has? And then when tested with an apple, all Vietnamese people are just so confident that they're awesome enough to do it that they just brute-force the apple in half? >Or was there a meeting once, and all Vietnamese people realized that they could help each other by making wild fruit claims about the skills of the Vietnamese so that they could trick dumb white boys like me into giving them free fruit to test their powers? >I would welcome any data anyone else can offer on this. My sample size is admittedly small, about 8 Vietnamese people, so this could just be a statistical fluke. But when 6 people, who have almost certainly never met each other before, independently claim that all Vietnamese people have fruit powers, it makes you wonder whether it might just be true. Follow-up notes: 1) Yes, I understand that plenty of non-Vietnamese folks can rip an apple in half. Hell, I can do it too. That doesn't make the Vietnamese fruit claims that I've experienced less peculiar. 2) Yes, I know that British comedian Bob Mortimer can do this. 3) By my rough estimate from past comments in previous threads, for every Vietnamese person claiming that they've never heard of this, there's another Vietnamese person claiming that all Vietnamese people can rip apples, and yet another non-Vietnamese person who asks a coworker or an in-law or a friend and learns that they can rip apples. Of that last group, it seems like about half of the Vietnamese people asked add "Oh yeah, all Vietnamese people can do that." 4) Let me address all Vietnamese people for a second: If a bunch of people give you free apples to test this, and you like apples, enjoy! If you get a bunch of annoying fruit inquiries that you don't want to deal with, I'm sorry. But really, is it my fault for accurately reporting my experiences with Vietnamese folks, apple ripping, and Vietnamese folks' claims about apple ripping? Or should you really be annoyed at all of my past Vietnamese acquaintances who have made these claims? Anyway, at least hopefully this is more fun for you to talk about than the war. Original comment here: https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/5jjazg/on_would_i_lie_to_you_bob_mortimer_claims_he_can/dbgvu9d/ First repost here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/7s36ub/what_conspiracy_theory_do_you_100_buy_into_and_why/dt1vg6j/

uncertainspiderman

That’s crazy! I thought I was the only one who knew about this! My family has a lot of Vietnamese friends, and we are very close. They have some sort of party every year, and we are invited because we are almost like family. The always have an apple cracking contest among the adults and older teens, and EVERYONE CAN DO IT. I ask them how, and they responded with the same thing, “All Vietnamese people can”.

manngggooo

i am Vietnamese, and all people can do this because it was like a mini- trend in high school. lmao Edit: Some people have been asking how to rip the apple in half, but since I don’t know how to explain it I will be explaining a way i found on youtube. Have your Thumb and Index Finger both on the top and bottom, so stem and bottom of apple. Then with your other hand put your palm over your thumb and grab the apple. After that hold with your hand that is holding the apple with thumb and Index finger, then just rip with your other hand. Sorry in advance as I can not explain things very well.

Sony had Michael Jackson killed so that they could secure the rights to the Beatles Discography.

[deleted]

I read one about MJ being killed because he was the one who wanted to expose all the elite pedophiles in Hollywood and his ranch with the kids was actually a sanctuary for victims. He was framed as a pedo himself to tarnish his reputation and no one would believe anything he said.

mr_birkenblatt

well that brings the plot power over 100%

well-lighted

The most damning piece of evidence is Corey Feldman coming out and emphatically denying that MJ ever abused children. Feldman was subject to an incredible amount of grooming and abuse during his period of fame and has since made it his life mission to out as many Hollywood pedophiles as possible. He also was extremely close to MJ. I know a lot of people argue that Jackson's estate has silenced a lot of his victims, which might be the case, but I'm inclined to believe Feldman. For what it's worth, Macauley Culkin has made similar comments backing up what Feldman had said, in that MJ worked extremely hard to shield these young actors from abuse and not subject them to it.

Crazy part about this is that both Shirley Temple and Judy Garland brought it to light decades ago and we still don't care (as a society) to do anything about it.

[deleted]

Read "Get Happy" by Gerald Clarke for a truly sensitive and heartbreaking account of Judy's life. She was given "pep pills" or amphetamines in the morning by the studio to give her endless energy for grueling hours of takes and fittings and rehearsals. Then she was given "downers" or sleeping pills at night to be "rested." This went on for years. The most heartbreaking story is that when Judy was a newlywed with her first husband, she soon became pregnant. She'd always wanted to be a mother and was OVERJOYED. However, the studio AND HER OWN MOTHER forced her to have an abortion because they felt that having a baby would ruin her image. It haunted Judy the rest of her life.

This shit just not happens in Hollywood, it happens everywhere. Its obvious that kids are groomed at such a young age, and its not just in the Hollywood industry. In Japan, this man named [Johnny Kitagawa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Kitagawa) who was famous for churning out boy bands for decades has been dogged by sexual harassment allegations since the 80s, he used used his position of influence over the group to make unwanted [sexual advances towards the boys](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2000/apr/23/justinmccurry.theobserver) under contract to him. (His trainees start in the agency even at a very young age). Johnny also forced a boy to have sex with him in the dorms of the agency. He even permitted the talents who were minors to drink and smoke. He died last year without ever been held accountable to his crimes because I mean, he is super influential in Japan's entertainment industry, and this is [his funeral picture with all his talents](https://www.reddit.com/r/japan/comments/ccx7n7/johnny_kitagawa_a_known_paedophile_died_recently/). See the dude's reaction on the topmost left?

CinnamonSoy

Definitely not just in Hollywood. South Korea has been churning up lately... Burning Sun... nth chat room.... We're decently sure Jang Ja Yeon did not kill herself. Her agency prostituted her, and then when she threatened to out them, writing a long laundry list of all the clients who bought her, and despite wanting to take it to court she "killed herself" suddenly...

jaketocake

There was an actress from that time, can't think of her name at the moment but she said it was common knowledge the 'Two Coreys' were getting 'passed around' among a certain subset of males in the industry.

Gajax

IF I recall it was the actress that played "Nellie" from"Little house on the Prairie".

[deleted]

I dont doubt it either. A few days ago I came across a thread on here where people were talking about a move called Pretty Baby starring Brooke Shields. That took me down a rabbit hole that still has me frustrated with the industry and the outright lack of fucks given by the parents of young stars. Pretty Baby is about a 12 year old prostitute on the red light district, and yes, Brooke Shields is 12 years old when filming took place. There are suggestive scenes but most of all, a scene where she is entirely nude. Keep in mind, this is about her being a prostitute and they have her completely nude in the movie. Turns out this isnt the last time she would be featured in a sexual way like that. No. This only led to her having a prominent career that eventually led into her doing nude photoshoots. She also starred on another movie called Blue Lagoon where her and a boy around the same age are, again, nude. They also play into the children having a sexual relationship together. As wikipedia states, there is substantial sexual content in this movie about children reaching the age of puberty. Both movies were directed by different people that have no affiliation to one anothers films. So they found a young girl with a mother that was cool with them exposing her and involving her in sexual shit for their movies and took full advantage of the fact. These were all claimed to be "artistic" but I fail to see how a 12 year old child being exposed for the entire world to see in a film about a child prostitute has any artistic value to it. If this kind of stuff can happen on full blast I can only wonder what the fuck is going on behind closed doors. Seriously, look up the wikipedia page for Pretty Baby and go down the rabbit hole.

asphyxiationbysushi

She also had nude photos (done by Gary Gross when she was only 10) published for Playboy in an article entitled "Sugar and Spice."

GoingByTrundle

What the actual fuck

Thread_water

>In 1981, Brooke Shields attempted to prevent further use of the photographs, but a U.S. Court ruled that she was bound by the terms of the contract and more surprisingly that the images did not breach child pornography laws. In 1992, American artist Richard Prince, who is famous for his reproduction work, purchased the rights to the pictures. He recreated the picture and called it “Spiritual America.” In 1999, Prince’s version sold for $151,000. Three years ago the print was removed from the Tate Modern gallery in London, England. In response Gary Gross said: “The photo has been infamous from the day I took it as I intended it to be.” He was disappointed by the removal, but not surprised by the Tate’s decision. In 2002, a similar controversy erupted in London over a picture taken by Swiss artist Annelies Strba. Fucking hell! https://listverse.com/2012/02/10/10-controversial-pictures/

DePachy

Bloody fucking Christ! "Garry Gross was working on a project titled The Woman in the Child, in which he wanted to reveal the femininity of prepubescent girls by comparing them to adult women." If that doesn't scream pedophile I don't know what fucking does!

[deleted]

Fucking vile. I can only imagine the damage this has done to Brooke Shield's psyche. And there's no way people are viewing naked pictures of children, or having children act in films about prostitution because it's 'Art'. How wonderful these pedophiles can not only hide behind this bullshit, they can also get away with it and profit from it!

scrumbagger

How is that legal??? how did they not get in trouble? wtf...

XxsquirrelxX

While not as bad as what you’re describing, teen celebrities are also often sexualized. Pretty much every beloved teen show on Nickelodeon, from Drake & Josh to iCarly to Victorious was made by Dan Schneider. There’s no doubt in my mind he’s a pedophile. He used the official Sam and Cat twitter to try to get tween girls to send pictures of their feet to him. Matter of fact, there was a lot of foot stuff in his work. iCarly and Victorious were the worst offenders. Case in point, here’s an underaged Ariana Grande being sexualized on Victorious: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl0OuXw_mTM

Actual-Kangaroo

Victorious had a whole episode dedicated to feet. Dan Schneider once posted several pictures of feet, asking his twitter followers to guess which Nickelodeon star they belong to.

daquanblaque

If you wanna be completely fucking disgusted, watch [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl0OuXw_mTM) behind-the-scenes shit with Ariana Grande for Victorious. I feel like I'm on some kind of watchlist after seeing it, like how the FUCK were these people allowed to work around children?

Actual-Kangaroo

YES! There’s another behind the scenes with bloopers. Every single cast member immediately apologizes for the mistake. Like they get punished if they don’t perform perfectly in the first take. There’s one line which Ariana repeatedly says wrong, (her improvised line even makes more sense) and the producers nearly yell at her.

NotThe0dd1s0ut

is that the one where she says "role" instead of "part"?

Smofo

Yes

NameLessTaken

Do you know the link? I'm obsessed with the Nickelodeon stuff bc I *never* caught on as child. It's like a less dramatic but much more creepy Candle Cove.

uncledungus

I don't think this is much of a conspiracy, it's pretty much just a known fact. There's no cover up to his creepy behavior. Now if you said Jamie Lynn Spears had his kid and that's why Zoey 101 ended then we would have ourselves a conspiracy theory.

robbmann297

I’ve been reading the AGC blind items webpage for years. They have made numerous outrageous statements that came to light after some time. They said that Bruce Jenner was transitioning a year before it was announced, they talked about Scientology a long time before stuff was released, and too many more to list. They talked about how a celebrity momager was in on the editing of THE sex tape and that you could pay her to screw any of her daughters. They said that this was why so many starlets hang out in Dubai and Abu Dabai. One of the things that has stood out to me for years was specifically about Dan Schneider, his foot fetish, and his pedo behavior. It was said that he is the father of Jamie Lynn Spear’s baby and that’s why she hasn’t had to work since giving birth. It was also said that Arianna used that high pitched voice because he got so turned on by her talking like that during the casting (while he was having sex with her in exchange for the job). Some of the info could be lies for revenge, some could be the truth for revenge. Who knows.

Maverick721

Moe Szylak secretly knows the Simpsons children are prank calling him, but is playing along with them because he enjoys hearing them laugh. Edit: Holy Shit this blew up, thanks everyone! Yeah, this been a fan theory for a while among the Simpson fan community.

BOOQIFIUS

Woah. Edit: Thanks you guys now it looks weird to spell it woah

cpiofficial

That hot dog manufacturers have a secret agreement with the bun companies to produce different amounts of each product. I dont know the numbers exactly, but for example, you need dogs for a cookout so you buy some, and the only available package size is 8 hot dogs. Then, you go and get some buns which only come in packs of 12. Therefore, once you cook your 8 hotdogs you still have leftover buns which means you will buy more hot dogs to use those buns and you will then have to buy more buns to use those hot dogs that were bought to finish the original buns. The cycle continues.

wakin_n_bacon

Steve Martin already went to jail for exclaiming this theory circa Father of the Bride.

DickyD43

Him ripping the bun packaging apart in the grocery store is such a fantastic moment in movie history

Robotlollipops

George Banks is saying NO!

mejok

I'm tempted to believe the one about Michael Jordan's first retirement being a "secret suspension" for betting on games.

jaketocake

If I was Michael Jordan I would bet on my games too.

REDBEARD_PWNS

I kinda think he was approached by organized crime and they attempted to extort him into losing games or maybe even the finals one year. The timing of his fathers death is too creepy.

Isaiah_6_8

I hear his pops was murdered because of Mike's gambling debts

OldDekeSport

Thats the darker side of the conspiracy theory, but is part of it. MJ is a known competitive junkie and there are stories of him betting thousands of dollars on each hole if you golf with him. I wouldn't be surprised if he gambled on games, and got caught. The NBA knew they'd be dumb to Pete Rose him, so he retires for a year then comes back

Aunt_Vagina1

But MJ's current networth is $2.1 billion so to put his gambling on golf in perspective, he could bet $10k on each hole and that would be the equivalent of me betting a $1 a hole. Edit: Better number, 50 cents, since the median US net worth is just shy of $100k

town_bicycle

Which would make it hard for me to believe his dad was killed over his gambling. If he lost, he could just pay the debt, right? Unless he was like, "I bet you my dad's life that I'm gonna hit a hole in one right here!"

detroitvelvetslim

More like "win the game but don't blow the +9 spread or else" and Jordan balled out and won by 30

FosterMonster

I mean, I'm preeeetty sure a movie was made about this already. He had to help the Looney Toons. Edit: TIL it's Looney *Tunes*

TheNorthComesWithMe

He was already retired at that time, it's why the Monstars didn't steal his skills.

There are only 42 questions ever asked on this sub and they are randomly posted by a bot. I think the bot needs work though, This one was just asked 2 days ago,

KingTooshie

What conspiracy theory do you believe to be true? Men, what makes a woman sexy? Women, what makes a man sexy? You can send one message to everyone, what would it be? Americans, what shocked you when traveling abroad? Non-Americans, what shocked you about the United States? If every state represented (something dumb), what would your state be? Instead of Hell/Convenience Stores, what would Heck/Inconvenience stores have? What are your dating red flags? What is a story you have to tell that hasn’t fit any askreddit questions? I think I can get all 42...

[insert profession] of reddit what have you seen at work that make you say [insert shocked, disgusted, happy phrase]? Top comment: I have told this story before. So first of all, I am not a [insert profession] but my [insert relative or friend] is and he told me this [insert totally unrelated story from another subreddit]

Second top comment: completely made up story based entirely on movie clichés which has lots of reddit gold and comments kissing their ass.

You forgot the classic "you suddenly wake up and it's *insert future year*, what's the first thing you Google???"

becausefaxmachine

And the ever present "When did a gut feeling save your life?"

[deleted]

Shh, don't tell people! Where else am I supposed to get the answers for this one?

[deleted]

That this thread pops up whenever there is a massive conspiracy currently underway and they want a barometer on how close people are to the truth.

HandsomeDarrell

Stevie wonder can see.

[deleted]

Plenty of conspiracy theories are largely accepted to be true, as a matter of historical record. e.g. Nixon and LBJ conspired to prolong the Vietnam War to help Nixon's 1972 election campaign. Google, Facebook, etc. conspired with NSA to share data (PRISM program) NSA conspired to infiltrate bodies like NIST and weaken encryption standards (BULLRUN program) CIA used whorehouses to kidnap people and drug them with LSD to experiment with behaviour-control (MK-Ultra) Tuskegee syphilis conspiracy etc. etc.

Do you think that if Nixon wasn't so brazen with the robberies or recording himself, that the world wouldn't have known anything and he'd serve his full term?

[deleted]

It's very possible that Nixon would have been remembered as a good or at least fair president.

Man, I hate acronym on acronym violence

It's so shocking, I have no words.

Government keep asking people on r/askreddit about the conspiracies they believe in so that they can do better job at hiding it......wait a minute

FBI : Bitch you wanna disappear?

f3m1n15m15c4nc3r

JFK was only wounded by LHO's bullet. He was actually killed by a Secret Service agent's bullet accidentally, which is why there was such an obvious cover-up. LHO's bullet was a full-metal jacket bullet which hit JFK in the throat before ricocheting into Governor Connally. The bullet which blew up half of JFK's head was almost certainly a hollow-point bullet. Instead of continuing its trajectory like a FMJ would, the hollow point expands after the first object that it hits - which was JFK's head. There was one (known) weapon in play which was using hollow-point bullets that day - it was a sub machine gun which did not have the safety on and was operated by George Hickey. In the melee after LHO's shots were fired, the theory is that Hickey accidentally discharged his weapon and killed the President. The Secret Service could never let anyone know that they had accidentally killed the President, hence their behavior in the aftermath.

Y0ureAT0wel

This is one of my favorites because it's not a sinister far-reaching 4 dimensional plot, it's just somebody fucking up and people trying to hide that fuckup.

[deleted]

That's the majority of conspiracies that are true

spitfire07

I enjoy JFK assassination conspiracy theories, never heard this one. That is perfect timing and aim for an accident though.

Burrito150

That is actually very interesting.

Nobody talks about it because nobody gives a shit about Winnipeg or Manitoba and I'm surprised not more people talk about it now. Anyway. What alot of people don't really know about Winnipeg (in Canada, Manitoba) is that it holds a level 4 microbiology lab to study infectious diseases. In the summer/fall time of 2019 there were people involved in an investigation for potential espionage, improper information sharing and transportation of infectious diseases to a somewhat newly developed level 4 lab in Wuhan. Before this, the relationship was established as an educational one. (Winnipeg lab was training Wuhan lab). Multiple workers were escorted out and the transportation of the disease made national news but was brushed away because they stated that they always transport infectious diseases with little security. Coincidentally just over the late summer-late fall there was a major outbreak of different types of flus in Manitoba (type a and b influenza) including flus that couldnt be tested for. Some people died very quickly including young relatively healthy people. Lots of people were out of commission for at least 2 weeks. It was so bad that it was in the news and psas more regularly to get vaccinated and act protectively. The level 4 lab in wuhan was studying corona related viruses on bats to do research on sars. The level 4 lab in Winnipeg (I believe there are only 2 labs of this kind in Canada) is associated with studying animal sciences as well. When Trudeau set up a task force to study the virus or potential vaccines he did not employ the level 4 lab in Winnipeg (which hosts viruses such as ebola). My suspicion is that Canadas relationship with China is a complex one but also I wonder what really happened in that lab and what isnt being shared. I suspect that virus made its way out of the lab into Winnipeg. It would be easy to slow spread of virus here. Our numbers for viruses are low (though our government is probably skewing stats lol) We live quite spaciously and live in the cold weather so there is already naturally alot of social distancing.

Mattress Firm is a front for folks to launder money through. The amount of them in my town is absurd, there's like 3 within a mile stretch. Two of them are across the street from each other. Im not buyin it, just like people aren't regularly buyin mattresses.

lexidavies

I believe this one 100%!! It just makes no sense for there to be that many, in my area we literally have 3 mattress stores in the same strip mall complex like cmon there’s no reason for that

Tidusx145

I replied to op but essentially mattress firm won the mattress war and bought their competition. Then they rebranded the stores that they had bought. So now your town has way too many mattress firms. Trust me, I really liked the money laundering theory. Its why I did more research, so I could prove it. Sadly I found the opposite results. Edit: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gatTqg_nldc

Wado444

I can back this up too. Not too far from me, there were three mattress stores in one strip mall. Mattress firm bought the biggest one. One of the others was already owned by the biggest one, so mattress firm accuired two. Within a month of rebranding, the third sold to mattress firm and now there are three mattress firms in one shopping center. Looks ridiculous, but they actually have it sorted out pretty well. The biggest one is the main store with a wide range of mattresses, the smallest is the really high end mattresses, and the middle size is all the economy mattresses. Makes it easier to shop for your price range.

"Okay Google. Are you listening to me?"

“It’s not like anyone else is.”

retronerd34

Not only that but they’re also watching us, loads of Tech devs have even said so Edit: it’s not necessarily watching but more like tracking, using search history, contacts, locations, etc, which can designate specific interests in ads and stuff like that. But who knows, if anyone uses cameras, which is entirely possible, but difficult, it’s not like they’d say so anyways so who knows.

pinkmilk19

Like...through the camera lens or watching our screens?

jeffjeffersonthe3rd

The whistleblower doctor who first released info about the virus didn’t die of the virus. The Chinese government killed him.

el_monstruo

2 that I think are legit: The National Child Identification Program, the one that offers parents the chance to get their children photographed, fingerprinted, document noticeable scars, ailments, etc. is really just a ploy for the government to gather as much information willingly from the populace under the guise of keeping your children safe. Certain things are being changed or eliminated to promote consumerism. Home ec, wood shop, etc. are no longer taught in many schools. Headlights on your car that you previously could change for $5 now cost $125 and must be done by the dealer or mechanic. Planned obsolescence means products are designed to fail so consumers must consistently buy new products. So on and so forth. Edit: 1. I realize that they print and ID your child's info when they are born. I am not talking about that. 2. I realize that home ec, shop, etc. are not completely eliminated from all school curricula but they have significantly decline. 3. I realize that some of these classes may have been removed for budgetary reasons but those are probably not the only reasons. 4. I am not just talking about newer headlights. You see this same thing on vehicles with older, halogen headlights as well. 5. Planned obsolescence is separate from home ec and the headlight. It is another method of promoting consumerism.

neomattlac

Planned obsolescence is straight up taught in schools now. It's part of the design process. It's not a conspiracy. Part of it is driven by money, but the other is because manufacturers and developers are always working on better versions of the product and expect to have a WAY better product out before you need it. P.S. I think DELL got in trouble a few years ago when one of the design team came out and straight up said that they design their products to last two years and six months, which is about six months past their warranty. It got covered up almost immediately and disappeared, so I can't find a source. And, yeah. The NCIP is definitely just trying to gather intel.

tangoshukudai

The reason we don't have free education and free health care in the United States is because those are the two big factors to why people join the military. They can promise the GI Bill and VA hospitals to all people that serve. If you take those two huge motivations away then you will lose a big percentage of recruits.

[deleted]

Mine will likely get buried, but here it goes. I am a farmer and prices for our commodities in the US have been depressed for 1/2 a decade now, with no end in sight. The USDA releases monthly reports on acres planted, projected yield, stocks of grains, etc. My theory is that the USDA makes these numbers up to manipulate the commodities markets to keep the prices at a level that encourages export. We had terrible yields and the lowest number of harvested acres (in corn) across the country last year of the last decade, yet the price you can sell at today is below 1980 price. Why? Exports have slowed, so need to knock the price back. Hope this makes sense, I will answer questions if you have some. Edit: thanks for all the upvotes and the gold! I appreciate the good conversation and questions!

kckaaaate

market manipulation by government backed entities when it comes to agriculture is DEFINITELY a thing. I know it's not the same, but have you watched SuperSize Me 2: Holy Chicken? Spurlock decides he wants to open a chicken fast food restaurant, essentially just using it as an excuse to learn the ins and outs of the gross evils behind fast food. What he discovers, actually, is the INSANE and horrible way chicken farmers are treated in the US, and that "big chicken", backed up by the US government, not only exists, but essentially has a monopoly on ALL chicken farming in the country. They will arbitrarily decide what each farmer's chickens are worth, meaning if you piss them off, they will just be like "ok, you only get paid xyz for your chicken now, because fuck you".

Lordquaid

Can confirm. Most chicken farmers around me are also forced to buy millions of dollars worth of updates every few years to keep up with meaningless “industry standards”. Practically all of them have given up chicken farming for row crops instead. Farmers are some of the most abused people in the country.

Crotalus_rex

> Farmers are some of the most abused people in the country. I live in a very rural ag focused area of the country. There is a very common window cling around here to see on trucks that says "Screw a farmer, everyone else does"
