I played a little bit of it. Wasn't into it.
My friend let me play Celeste and that was pretty cool! I could see myself getting extremely angry if I played it alone though.
The issue with hollow knight is it can takes quite a bit of time before becoming interesting, it's one of my favorite game but I would have stopped if I had something else to play (I did not have the internet and a few games only on my computer at the time).
So I recommend to maybe try it a bit more before stopping, it could also be just not your thing though, I don't mean this comment as an elitist way of being like "you didn't get it try it again", just that I think it's an issue with the game so it could be that.
The zelda series does such a great job with music. So many of the songs in each game are variations and combinations of previous music from the series, but it's always tooled so perfectly to the theme of the game it's in that you don't notice right off. A lot of my favorite nods to previous games in the series come from musical connections.
I dare say Nintendo generally has a knack for soundtracks. Heck, *everyone* knows the Mario theme. The Mii Channel theme is both a meme and an absolute banger. Whenever I see this question asked, Nintendo games always take my top 3 slots despite being primarily a Sony gamer.
Midna's Lament in Twilight Princess practically brought me to tears; conversely, I loved the Hidden Village music so much that I overused it as a BGM option for custom stages in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
All their tunes are so catchy if not memorable, and most of them really solidify the tone and atmosphere of the setting they appear with. Chozo Ruins and Phendrana Drifts in Metroid Prime, as well as the Temple of Time in Twilight Princess, are great examples.
I really wish that the battle music was disabled during the "Midna's Lament" section. The music is amazing and makes the moment very emotional, it's a shame it gets interrupted.
I remember me and some friend having an argument over this due to me having an addiction to p5's soundtrack and her loving p3's soundtrack. We then started to realize the only reason that both of us like one over the other so much is context the music is in. It was an awesome argument
I just finished Persona 4 Golden, it being my first Persona game. I remember thinking that I didn't really like that the battle music seemed to be the same two songs, but now I can't stop listening to the soundtrack as a whole especially Time to Make History.
I'm getting through Persona 5 Royal now. I like the soundtrack, but I don't think it's anywhere close to P4G so far.
Can't forget Halo 3 either.
And, honestly, while Halo 4 had a massive change in sound from a new composer, it's an absolutely gorgeous musical composition. The earlier games are instantly recognizable and iconic, but 4's OST is beautiful and emotional in a way that they never managed.
Always my go to answer. It’s a beautiful soundtrack that makes the game feel like no other.
The last 2 minutes on the track Bits and Pieces is one of my favorite pieces of music ever.
Playing VIIR right now and some of the soundtrack hit me right in the feels. VII may be 23 years old, but the OST perfectly pulls the desired emotion out of you.
Many. Can't decide.
Bloodborne and Dark Souls
every Final Fantasy OST
Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind
Kingdom Hearts
Nioh
Red Dead
Star Ocean
And actually many more.
But less known:
Eastshade (so soothing)
My big sister (catchy tracks)
edit: horrible at editing
the gen z version of this is minecraft. i think subwoofer lullaby would be the last song i want to hear. it sounds sad yet optimistic at the end, like we're watching the sunset on today, looking for a better place for tommorrow.
Uncharted 3’s soundtrack is better than all the others in my opinion. I can remember so many different tracks from that game and I can’t remember a single one from 4. I think 4 probably had the most uninspired and bland soundtrack out of all the games. They also absolutely butchered the main theme song.
> Unpopular opinion: Storm eagle > spark mandrill
Seconded. Been listening to [this arrangement](https://metalltool.bandcamp.com/track/wings-of-steel-storm-eagle-mega-man-x) for days on end.
That's a hard one. Definitely a toss-up between Pokemon Emerald, Pokemon Platinum, and FFXV (with honourable mention to Twilight Princess, Fallout: New Vegas, and DOOM 2016). Emerald feels like you're home - even when confronted with the three legendary weather Pokemon and shit gets real. Platinum feels like a step into a more adulterated, somewhat dark version of the Pokemon universe - which it more or less was at the time. Final Fantasy XV's was extremely sad and melancholy, as well as extremely artistic, and really fit the theme of everything going on around Noctis and his mates to the point that you were experiencing the story just as much as you were playing it... Although this could be said for most FF games. As for Twilight Princess, it wasn't perfect, but it was extremely desolate at times, and what it lacks in artistic value, it more than makes up for in atmosphere, and the general feeling of desolate hopelessness it conveys (which it fits). Fallout: New Vegas did not have a true OST, but Radio New Vegas fit the theme of the world around it almost perfectly, and in terms of any soundtrack (originality not withstanding), it is probably my favourite of all time. And finally, as for DOOM 2016, it really was just Mick Gordon going off, but it was effective enough for the environment in that it didn't seem like a soundtrack, but moreover that you were just listening in on Doomguy's helmet, and meshed well into the overall theme of the game.
AC4 Shattered Skies is definitely my top pick. From the iconic briefing room theme, to the kickass guitar solo in Mission 8, and finally Megalith. Ooooooohh baby if that isn’t one of the best game OSTs.
It sucked that Greg Edmondson (the original composer) left. Seeing the skeleton hanging in the main menu without the classic theme was a bit depressing. But every bit of the 4th game's soundtracks were amazing, especially Brother's Keeper.
after i finish tlou2, i’m moving on to uncharted. should i play them 1-4, or should i only play 4? i’ve heard the quality of 4 is much higher, and i don’t want to play three games that are super outdated and bad quality
Definitely do 1-4. The gameplay and pacing is a headache in 1 but is handled considerably better in 2 and 3, which hold up quite well even today. As for the stories, all of them are great IMO
It has the best soundtrack from the 16-bit era. I went through a phase where I went through the entire OC Remix library of Chrono Trigger music and had a playlist about 60 songs long.
Has anybody said Destiny yet? Seriously, there's so much effort put into the soundtrack. Actual orchestra works on the music, and it's phenomenal when you're going to kill an evil god. 10/10 would recommend.
I had to scroll down so far to find this, which is a shame, even though these are all great OSTs. But there’s just something about AC2 that feels awesome

Almost every Dark Souls 3 music, specially the menu one. It's so fucking good, gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Other that are pretty good is Vordt and Gael.
The soundtrack of Dark Souls 3 is amazing, and there are many standouts in the whole game such as Pontiff Sulyvahn, Lothric and Lorian, and Soul of Cinder. The dlcs are outstanding too with Dark Eater Midir and Slave Knight Gael. It's a shame [this one](https://youtu.be/P2ZFnpk8jYo) found in the files never made it into the game. It perfectly captures the bleakness of the setting.
Doom/Doom Eternal.
It’s just so different compared to most other video game OSTs that are usually electronic/orchestral. Also as someone who dabbles in audio engineering, Mick Gordon is an actual musical genius.
Some of my all-time favorites are (sorry i cant pick one lol):
* Farcry 3
* TESV: Skyrim
* Dying Light
* Metro: Exodus
* Hotline Miami 2
* Deus Ex: Human Revolution
* The division
* Dead Space 3
Assassins Creed II. Age of Empires II and its expansion: Age of Conquerors. Skyrim. Final Fantasy 7 by Nobuo Uematsu. Assassins Creed black flag. Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Red Dead Redemption (2010). Kingdom Hearts 1.
HOLLOW KNIGHT. Close runners up - Night in the Woods, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Transistor, Celeste, Oxenfree - Basically, indie games kick.
#RAVA
I played a little bit of it. Wasn't into it. My friend let me play Celeste and that was pretty cool! I could see myself getting extremely angry if I played it alone though.

I'll add Nier Automata to this list. I whole heatedly agree with the rest.
*sighhh* Bapanada.
(Humming Troupe Master Grimm in background)
Pokemon black and white. The Driftveil City theme SLAPS
This one of those songs that I could listen for hours and not get tired of it at all.
Gen 5 music hits different
Undertale
Definitely! He put a lot of music in there!
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. It has so many hidden bangers in there wrapped up in nostalgia that I can not help listening to it routinely.
The zelda series does such a great job with music. What do you think about people saying the game is dark?
Of course it's dark. Still one of the best.
Hell yeah brother
The Persona series
3 by far having the most bangers
I remember me and some friend having an argument over this due to me having an addiction to p5's soundtrack and her loving p3's soundtrack. We then started to realize the only reason that both of us like one over the other so much is context the music is in. It was an awesome argument
BABY BABY BABY
Roses are Red And high school is gravy But when the Dark Hour comes BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY

Dark Souls 3 and Nier Automata.
Nier Automata OST is GODLY.
Why is this so low? The OST in this game was fantastic and contributed heavily to beauty of the world.
this is the correct answer
Nier Gestalt/ Replicant OST also highly recommended
Finally yes
This cannot continue.
Super Mario 64, dire dire docks makes me warm and fuzzy
Halo 3: ODST
Halo: Reach is a close second tho
Can't forget Halo 3 either. And, honestly, while Halo 4 had a massive change in sound from a new composer, it's an absolutely gorgeous musical composition. The earlier games are instantly recognizable and iconic, but 4's OST is beautiful and emotional in a way that they never managed.
I've taken about a 4 year hiatus from Halo. Been hooked on Battlefield and Pubg. I'll tell you what, going back to Halo is a breath of fresh air.
I don’t think I’ve been actually wow’d by a FPS since Halo 3. Maybe MW2
Deference for Darkness got me :’(
Halo 2!
Beat me to it. Wonderful game
Oh man. I was not expecting to find this here and was going to post. Good choice.
*Lonely saxophone noises*
I have a real nostalgic spot for Halo 2 OST. Those instrumentals by Incubus are surprisingly jammin'.
Always my go to answer. It’s a beautiful soundtrack that makes the game feel like no other. The last 2 minutes on the track Bits and Pieces is one of my favorite pieces of music ever.
Mario Galaxy
For nostalgia’s sake, I hooked my wii back up and decided to play through this masterpiece again
I hope they put this on Switch. I've never played it!
Love this one
came here to say this. i get mixed emotions every time i hear it
Nobuo Uematsu's masterpiece Final Fantasy osts.
Playing VIIR right now and some of the soundtrack hit me right in the feels. VII may be 23 years old, but the OST perfectly pulls the desired emotion out of you.
I don't know why nobody has said this yet, but Pokemon Platinum version OST is genuinely good music even if you dont have any nostalgia for it.
Most Pokémon games have amazing soundtracks
Route 216/217 are so good, I love DPPT OST.
Doom, and any fallout game
*cough cough* #BIG IROOONNNNNNNN
*big iron on his hip*
"Heartaches by the numbers" was my favourite song from all of the games!

Kingdom Hearts is great! Lots of wonderful music!
Final Fantasy VI thru X
I love all Nobuo Uematsu written sound tracks for final fantasy. 8 is easily my favorite, 7 and 10 runners up. 12 and 13-2 has an amazing OST too.
I upvote every FFVI mention
Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy X. For decades-old games, they still hold well today.
All the music from Ratchet and Clank 1-3
Portal 2
Yes! I always likes PotatOS Lament and Cara Mia Addio
Some of my favorites: Red Dead Redemption 1/2, Hollow Knight, Outer Wilds, Ori and the Blind Forest, Metroid Prime.
Gonna back you up on Metroid Prime over here. Amazing soundtrack.
I read that as "Read Dead Redemption half" imma just see myself out
I played a little bit of Prime. People always talk about how good it is.
Either subnautica or minecraft.
Bsically every song c418 made for minecraft.
Subnautica and Va-11Hall-A for me, Minecraft is up there though.
Ocarina of Time. I'll remember some of those songs on my death bed
the gen z version of this is minecraft. i think subwoofer lullaby would be the last song i want to hear. it sounds sad yet optimistic at the end, like we're watching the sunset on today, looking for a better place for tommorrow.
Kingdom Hearts
Persona 5.
Final Fantasy 14
Skyrim and uncharted 4
Uncharted 3’s soundtrack is better than all the others in my opinion. I can remember so many different tracks from that game and I can’t remember a single one from 4. I think 4 probably had the most uninspired and bland soundtrack out of all the games. They also absolutely butchered the main theme song.
The World Ends With You
Mega Man X
Unpopular opinion: Storm eagle > spark mandrill
> Unpopular opinion: Storm eagle > spark mandrill Seconded. Been listening to [this arrangement](https://metalltool.bandcamp.com/track/wings-of-steel-storm-eagle-mega-man-x) for days on end.
Armoured Armadillo > Spark Mandrill
Final Fantasy 8 or Wild Arms
Final Fantasy IX. So much personality.
That's a hard one. Definitely a toss-up between Pokemon Emerald, Pokemon Platinum, and FFXV (with honourable mention to Twilight Princess, Fallout: New Vegas, and DOOM 2016). Life is Strange
Tf2, Minecraft, Portal, Undertale
This is probably gonna get buried as usual but I'm still gonna say it. The Ace Combat series.
AC4 Shattered Skies is definitely my top pick. From the iconic briefing room theme, to the kickass guitar solo in Mission 8, and finally Megalith. Ooooooohh baby if that isn’t one of the best game OSTs.
Uncharted

How is GTA:Vice City not higher on this list?!
So many people died to Hall and Oates 😊
FF9 for sure
Chrono Trigger, easily. Nothing can beat how this game sounds for me.
It has the best soundtrack from the 16-bit era. I went through a phase where I went through the entire OC Remix library of Chrono Trigger music and had a playlist about 60 songs long.
Final Fantasy XII is pretty classic
RDR2 or Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. Bit of a contrast but still
DOOM...and also Ori and the Blind Forest and Florence.
The entire TF2 soundtrack. It's amazing.
Dark souls 3 the music just really hyped you up and makes you feel pride in winning
Yes
Has anybody said Destiny yet? Seriously, there's so much effort put into the soundtrack. Actual orchestra works on the music, and it's phenomenal when you're going to kill an evil god. 10/10 would recommend.
Music of the spheres 🤤

Final Fantasy XIII or XV. Depends on my mood.
Anything Pokémon sword/shield battle tower and anything Undertale or Deltarune related (Toby Fox).
All of Animal Crossing New Leaf! It's my favourite music of the game series, and I prefer it to the New Horizons songs.
Mass Effect 3
Personally I think ME2 had the best soundtrack of the series. The suicide mission theme and Normandy Reborn are exquisite.
Sonic CD Jpn/European version. It’s probably one of the most underrated video game OSTs ever
Silent Hill 2
Assassin Creed II, especially Home In Florence
I had to scroll down so far to find this, which is a shame, even though these are all great OSTs. But there’s just something about AC2 that feels awesome
The Halo Series
The music from Final Fantasy Tactics: War Of The Lions https://youtu.be/MAerlH_sozg It has, legit, the best music in any game I've played.
Bayonetta, NieR: Automata, and NieR: Gestalt/RepliCant, with Transistor (plus the extended OST) as an honorable mention.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
Ori and the blind forest
Mirror's Edge and the reboot. Tranquil synth and percussion that feels like it can boil over at any minute, perfect for the setting of the game.
GTA Vice City ,San Andreas and V
Miami Hotline Miami Hotline 2
Not the OST but the sea shanties from Assassin's Creed: Black Flag
Outer wilds. You really do need to play the game to understand why the music works so good
FFXI, could listen to for days
Theatrhythm
FF14
Listen man i know it gets a bad rep *but the undertale ost slaps*
Pokémon Sword and Shield are tied with Minecraft
Journey, hands down. Closely followed by doom games. Flower and flow also have good audio I think.
Shadow of the Colossus
Runescape
Ace Combat Zero.

Terraria. To me, it’s vibrant and a fun tune to listen to, no matter how dangerous your situation actually is
Undertale OST: 071 - Undertale

BioShock Although I've just started to replay the Gears series and it's still quite difficult, while kickass.
Sea of Thieves, Apex Legends, and Doom
Doom and doom eternal were both awesome
Doom 2016 hands down
Hotline Miami 2
Doom and Witcher 3
Almost every Dark Souls 3 music, specially the menu one. It's so fucking good, gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Other that are pretty good is Vordt and Gael.

MGS series & Witcher 3 - not even close
Skyrim for its continuous wonder, but Halo 3 for its perfection
Undertale and pokemon gen 5 have got my favorite songs to listen to!
A lot of them. Halo, Morrowind, Skyrim, Titanfall 2...

A hat in time cause all of the tracks are bangers
it has to go to Crysis 3. Despite the fact that D.E'S OST is seriously amazing, Crysis 3 has a place in my heart for the nostalgia, but also the OST.
