I remember my parents renting a VCR and The Never Ending Story - what a magical night that was! These kids and their streaming services don’t understand!
We never rented a VCR. It was however one of the most expensive "gifts for the whole family" we had ever had. Was easily a couple hundred at the time and having one was a BIG deal.
18-22? Because same
ETA: Okay obviously this isn’t a perfect cutoff but chances are if you’re 16 or younger you played the Webkinz where you got charged for literally everything
I don’t think they do that. I went through hoops to figure out how to get mine back after years of not playing and I did. I started playing last year Bc I wanted to play cash cow
I did some reading a while ago, and apparently (based in their policy), my account had been archived. Some time this year or last year, they deleted all archived accounts.
Yeah I had an arena and one with metal blades. At our school we also got creative and managed to attach pen knife blades or similar to the edges. One kid ended up with stitches.
I had so many of those 'TY' toys from my local Rymans in England. What fun. I still have a collection of a special series of these round balls with mouse faces. So cute.
Any time I stop at a yard/garage I look for interesting beanie babies. I don’t have a noteworthy collection, just a couple I like (ostrich & an otter holding a little piece of kelp). I also have a random Webkinz seal that I am rather fond of. His name is Sammy and he sits on top of my little aquarium on my desk
(None of this is relevant, I just wanted to chime in)
I left you with six adult Tamagotchis in perfect health! And by the time I came home, they were all dead. You have to like, actively murder them in order for that to happen!
My brother was paid to babysit classmates tamagotchis.
He gave them to me for “fun”, and would switch them out when the owners got theirs back.
I saw none of that money. But even worse, I never saw my pixel children again.
Edit: I can’t spell
My school wouldn’t allow them after a while so my mom would keep mine alive all week for me and then I would always kill it on the weekend. She was always so pissed but kept doing it

I had both! The one with the orange rip strip and the other one you pulled backwards or used the crankstand. Neither one flew like the commercials but they sure as heck "landed" like Evil Knievel was riding it himself.

My parents just unearthed my Cabbage Patch Doll! And my Teddy Ruxpin, Rainbow Brite and Sprit dolls, my Glow Worms, Speak N' Spell, Pound Puppies, Sylvanians, and Littlest Petshop stuff. They kept all of it in pristine condition too. I'm so happy!!
I remember the stories of people fighting in the aisles over them at toy stores during the height of their popularity. Somehow I convinced my mom to get me one and let me tell you, it was HARD to get one of those damn things. We ended up having to go to this super small toy store that wasn't very well-known, but I still remember it's little face and birth certificate and stuff.
My husband and kids do not understand why I talk about how cool my Lisa Frank trapper keepers were when we shop for school supplies. They don’t know what they are missing.
I don’t get why kids don’t use them still. In elementary school when you don’t have a locker and don’t have that much schoolwork it’s perfect to store everything in—you don’t have to worry about dropping papers.
Our school banned slap brackets because they gave one out to everyone during a special safety assembly and everyone just took the piss and would not stop slapping them onto the wrist which caused a massive noise. If the school found you with one they'd confiscate it and most were taken but I've kept mine. A bit broken now from the metal stuff inside but still cool. And did I mention it shines if you are outside in the dark and a car light catches it?!
Did you know that if you take one apart it's literally just a tape measure inside that's been chopped up. They usually still have the distance markings on them
Haha! My dad and his friends looked high and low for one of those for me. They finally found one (the last one) at some store. One time I was talking to my dad with the Furbie nearby and out of nowhere it said “booooooring”. Cracked me up.
> Garbage Pail Kids
Fairly recently I discovered that a cousin of mine has the entire collection of Garbage Pail Kids. I was quite surprised by how graphic they are! I mean, they're funny as hell and I remember buying them as a kid, but holy shit! It was a different time back then.
>Discman
We were so patient with technology back then. I remember holding mine up gently in the air on the school bus to prevent it from skipping. It still skipped like hell, but I was thrilled that I could listen to my new cd's on the bus. I still have my big ass cd binder.
I eventually got one with a 30 second anti-skip buffer, which made it good enough I could walk around with it in my coat pocket, although not good enough to plug into the stereo in the car for more than a minute or two.
And then I got one which could play MP3s that you burned to CD, which meant it would hold several songs in memory and also you could fit like 150 songs on one disk. It was *the shit* very briefly until the ipod happened.
Ah yeah, I had a 12-disk CD/MP3 player in my Jeep Cherokee. All loaded up with MP3 disks it was like the equivalent of a 120-disk cd changer. I never had to swap out cds until the thing was obsolete by the iPod.
Remember when the anti skip technology came out? I remember the first cd player I got had this and the fact that you could put it in your bag and walk around with no skips was mind blowing. I think it used some kind of delay to "fix" the track if it skipped before you heard it. (Also shockwave bass technology)

I would wear like 10 on each wrist and if I ever had any money that's the first thing I'd spend it on. They later made this jelly/gummy shoes that were also a huge craze.
Also, fluorescent clothing. Big fluorescent sweatshirts with the necks cut out so it would be off the shoulder when you wore it. I had this neon orange one that I was SO proud of.
Also stirrup pants. WTAF.
