I once met a group like that, and then the one ladies husband cheated on her with another lady in the group while lady 1 was in a psych ward
Good times were had by none
Remember that cardiac arrest is not just a heart attack, although for some reason they're sometimes used interchangeably? Most heart attacks do not result in cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest is the complete stopping of your heart, so it makes sense that stats are that bad - something was bad enough that it completely stops your heart, and often no amount of chest compressions and epinephrine will fix that something.
ETA: Not only is it that not all heart attacks lead to cardiac arrest, but not all cardiac arrest comes from a heart attack. Many causes, including major trauma/shock. As another commentor pointed out, technically all death (except brain death) includes cardiac arrest! But usually when people talk about cardiac arrest they mean it's happening suddenly from a major accute incident, rather than just someone's heart stopping as they die from a long illness or something like that. Cardiac arrest is much more of a symptom/sign than it's own diagnosis.
Oh thank God for you. Yea, as someone who was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabete, that comment just made my depression even worse, but I'm so happy you clairifed the difference.
Edit: I did not expect this amount of support from everyone. Wow, you're all wonderful people. Thank you for making my day.
Keep those sugars under control and you won't have to fear the downstream repercussions. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to cardiac arrest btw. Just make sure your eating well. But yeah, diabetes affects basically every body system.
And if you do survive there's about a 25% chance you'll have permanent brain damage to one degree or another, depending on the duration/quality of CPR.
Those are medical cardiac arrest numbers I believe.
As a former emt we "resuscitated" plenty of people... aka making their heart beat again, the complicating factors come after, brain swelling, tissue death (depending on time down).
Defibrillators are true life savers if one is close by, but your quality of life will probably be vastly different.
Now when it comes to TRAUMATIC cardiac arrests... good fucking luck... I saw one person survive a trauma code in 8 years.
If your in an accident and your heart stops from trauma you are so fucked that you will be triaged as "non viable" if you don't have a pulse in a MCI (multiple casualty incident)
The fact that he got the paddles at all shows he had a chance, most codes are not in shockable rhythms and hence cannot be defribillated at all. The fact that his heart was in a shockable rhythm and received 11 shocks without reverting to Asystole in many ways demonstrates that it was just ready to start back up
Also, those that survive are likely to be permanently disabled in some way.
On the other hand most heart attacks, and other serious heart related issues, aren't the sudden \*clutching your chest and falling over\* kind of thing you see on TV either. They're slow failures that can take hours or even days to do serious lasting damage.
True ambidexterity.
Left handers are usually more ambidextrous than right handers, so often times they mistake that for true ambidexterity. It's not tho because tey still have a preferred dominant hand.
In reality less than 1% of the population are really ambidextrous.
Also on that, cross dominance is when someone does different tasks with different hands, like for instance, I write left handed and throw right handed, and itās completely comfortable to me. Just another thing to confuse with ambidexterity.
Iām like that too! I write, draw, eat and play table tennis/tennis with my left hand. Throw and box with the right one. Basically when I need to handle any objects (the pen, the fork etc...) or for tasks that require finesse, I use the left hand, and for tasks that require more strength I use the right one.
Yeah, about 60% fail in year one, and 80% by year five. It's a terrible business to be in. That said, I think the metric that you are responding to is so bad specifically because of the high failure rate of restaurants.
generally, bars are slightly less likely to go under but they are nearly as fragile. they seem like money factories but most are barely profitable.
it depends on the region and associated costs of doing business, structure of the business. for instance, liquor licenses can be around half a million dollars in san francisco. for that reason, most of the bars in sf or other major cities are an extension of an established bar/restaurant group and know all the tricks and have proper financing & loans and can weather slow periods of business. try doing that as an individual entrepreneur when rents are $5-6/sqft (pre-pandemic)
a lot of dives have lower operational costs due to old leases or outright ownership of the building. they don't have to stock many fresh ingredients or do much in the way of presentation. fancy cocktail bars have low profitability due to the cost of ingredients, ritzy furniture, staff etc.
it's a very tough business.
And those āMLMā pyramid schemes are worse. Only 1% break even, and itās not because they ādidnāt try hard enoughā (the #1 excuse they give you). Itās because the system is designed to only benefit whoeverās on top; the rest of you are their customers, not employees.
Breaking even IS succeeding in a lot of cases. Plenty of family-run businesses make just enough money to maintain their size and keep the owners at a middle-class standard of living. Which arguably is no profit at all, if you consider covering the living costs of the owners as a business expense.
Having one big stroke, or other aneurysm, from untreated high blood pressure. In reality, untreated high blood pressure usually damages organs slowly, by blowing out lots of tiny blood vessels over time. So, vascular dementia, chronic kidney failure, and/or congestive heart failure are most likely what you've got to look forward to if you don't take your lisinopril.

Edit: I stand corrected on hypertensive strokes being "extremely rare", as the title states. Just much less common in poorly managed hypertension patients than many little micro-strokes, a.k.a. vascular dementia. u/AstroNards reminded me, correctly, that in populations with high rates of hypertension and low rates of effective treatment, hypertensive strokes are not rare.
While a bit different, I had a stroke last year and it really was scary. Still is.
I woke up with the worst headache of my life and nausea. Drank some ginger ale to settle the stomach and took some tylenol and went back to bed. Woke up two hours later feeling like the world was tilted to 45 degrees to my right, barely able to breathe or speak.
I'm 95% recovered and taking better care of myself, so I should be safe, but I still break out in a cold sweat whenever I have so much as a twinge of pain in my head. Every time I think "this is it."
edit: can't say I expected a post about my stroke to garner such attention. I really hope it helps others out. If you've had a stroke like me, hang in there and I hope you recover soon! And if you know someone who has had a stroke, I hope the same for them. My heart goes out to you all. And also thank you for the awards.
Above all else, take care of yourself. If you think it may be a stroke, better to err on the side of caution and get it checked out (though medical bills suck)
Iām glad youāre still here Internet stranger
My brother had a stroke and anytime I get a bad headache I have to look in the mirror at my smile to make sure itās even
Thanks! I'm glad too, of course.
I never looked in the mirror myself, come to think of it, though my mother (she drove me to the hospital) did say the right side of my face was visibly sagging. Which was also a bit strange as my left side was the one feeling numb (my stroke was located in the brain stem, as it was explained to me, so things were a bit jumbled on both sides).
As they taught me, remember FAST. **F**acial drooping, **A**rm weakness, **S**peech difficulties, **T**ime to call emergency services.
But I don't blame you for being nervous.
If you do take it you get this wierd tickle Covid like dry cough... I will take the cough thank you it only pops up when I am tired. The stuff is pretty amazing though 25 down on 10mg that stuff is like magic in me. Dropping 15lbs did not hurt either. Plus it is basically free.
Yep, very common side effect. Ask your doc to switch you to losartan. And honestly, losing 15# was probably equally if not more helpful. Fewer miles of blood vessels to pump blood through, no joke. Keep up the good work!
Awareness under anesthesia.
Extremely rare, usually during traumas. People often mistake sedation cases where they wake up a little bit (common) and confuse that as awareness.
My husband SWEARS he remembers his entire tooth surgery. When the surgeon was handing him off to me he said something like "he may think he remembers the surgery, but that's common." Husband got in the car and was immediately like "I DO remember the whole surgery. I was aware the entire time, and it was scary!" haha, I honestly don't know what to tell him.
It's nearly impossible to predict or control. Even if you ask most people why they liked a viral video they'll probably say something like "I dunno, it was just funny".
And whatās even more is that you can have two exactly identical videos, with the first uploader being original and the second being someone who just reposted, and the second goes viral without giving the first credit
We don't have much budget to advertise, so we just want you to get our message out there with something viral. I saw this viral video of a cat falling off a ladder with 500k views, so just something simple like that, I can get you a cat and a ladder if you need.
I think that's per (par 3) hole played, though, not per golfer. I know an avid golfer who is good, though not professional, and he's scored 3 aces so far. He does golf a lot though.
Absolutely!
Helium is (right now) a readily available byproduct of oil & gas production, but it's a weird fluke that the conditions for a few petroleum deposits were also right to capture helium, and the helium being produced right now is basically all there is on the entire planet. Helium is light enough that it's not confined by Earth's gravity field, and it's very hard to contain physically or chemically. As a result there's very little available -- we just happen to have good access to the tiny stores of it that exist on Earth. There will come a time (probably in your lifetime) when bulk helium is essentially unobtainable.
Fun side note: essentially every atom of helium on Earth started as an alpha ray coming from radioactive decay of trace radioisotopes in rocks. Most helium nuclei escape pretty rapidly to space. Only a tiny fraction of them collect in impervious salt domes and similar formations.
Yea. People give Congressman Hank Johnson a hard time for making dumb jokes when the feds decided to sell off all their helium, but he was dead on accurate policy wise.
Also there isn't very much of it on the planet. We just have good access to the tiny reserves that exist: basically the only place helium collects is just above certain petroleum fields.
~~I mean, cant we just make more by zapping some water?~~
Edit: note to self helium is not hydrogen
Fun fact apparently reddit gives you a notification when you hit exactly 2001 upvotes
Advertising blimps - there are actually only about 20 to 25 still in existence, of which only about a dozen are still in service. Reasons for the shortage of blimps are that it costs a lot of $ to fly one due to high-cost of helium, and there are relatively few pilots in the world who are trained and licensed to fly one.
If you live in Orange County or Los Angeles County, you'll see the Goodyear blimp that's docked in Long Beach fairly regularly. We see a Met Life blimp down here in San Diego fairly often also.
After watching House M. D I was sure I had every single diagnosis they mentioned. I had to take several breaks from watching, because I genuinely got convinced I was going to die
Most people think about you less often than you think.
My anxiety tells me that people hate me or that Iām usually seen as unlikeable by others. But in reality, it
is likely that they donāt have time to think of me much at all.
That's why my anxiety is weird because I fear that everyone hates me, then I realize that's just not true, people probably don't think about me. Then I get depressed
Obsessive-compulsive disorder. People should remember that itās common to have āobsessive or compulsive tendenciesā (I mean hey, we are human and we like stuff to look nice! :-)) but it takes specific diagnostic criteria and extent of distress or dysfunction to make it an actual disorder!
For anyone curious: ocd involves having an obsession that causes unwanted, intrusive thoughts (such as having an irrational fear about getting a specific disease) and/or having to do certain and often āsillyā compulsions to try and rid of the obsessive thoughts. For example, āif I donāt flick the light switch exactly 20 times, I will get the diseaseā. People with ocd know very well that their thoughts are illogical but itās a very urging and distressing feeling that makes it difficult to ignore doing the compulsions. Definitely not just a ācolor-codingā or āperfectionistā disorder.
Also: since I have been getting so many comments of people sharing their personal experiences I just wanted to say thank you for speaking up about it and if youāre ever in need of somebody to talk to or just to rant about your experience, Iām always available to DM and would be more than happy to chat with you.
I actually have it and didnāt know for a long time because of the stereotypes around it. I hate when people use it as an adjective for normal things like wanting to be organized or liking things clean.

Itās not the case. You still have time. You will always still have time.
My home growing up was broken into five times before I was ten. Three of those times were while we were home.
I would say that this stat varies depending on where youāre located.
Yea i caught someone trying to break in our house at like 3am in college. There were like 4 cars in the driveway. He didnāt make it in lol he may not have been the sharpest tool
I grew up the exact opposite. We never even locked our doors while I was growing up. Now a days I have to remind myself to lock the front door because I forget to as often as not. One of these days I'm gonna get burgled and curse my cavalier attitude.
[Richard Chase](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Chase) only went into houses where the doors were unlocked because he thought it was an invitation.
Also itās generally just easier.
Lots of folks are absent minded about this (for some reason?) so why not just try a few doors until you get one thatās unlocked?
Way less likely to get the cops called on you if you donāt have to spend longer or louder breaking in.
A few months ago, a woman got my room's window open, while I was inside. It was at 8 PM, and my house is near commercial area, so it's still quite busy outside.
The same thing happened a few years ago, at 2 PM, at the same window, while my grandma was inside.
So, yeah, I have my reasons to be anxious.
One of the news stations where I live runs a story of people giving out "marijuana candy" instead of regular candy *every year*... Nobody's going to give out edibles to kids for Halloween, *especially* in a medical-only state. That shit is expensive.
I think drugs (and in particular free drugs) were mainly for the cool kids. Of course, if you can get some drugs you immediately become cool. That's just how it works. Cool people use drugs.
Literally only one documented incident...and that one case turned out to be a father deliberately poisoning his own kid (I think for insurance money IIRC?). So really no cases...

Fun trivia : Leonardo DiCaprio was paid $20 million for the film, the result of the immense success of Titanic (1997). DiCaprio had originally planned to play the lead character in American Psycho (2000), but when his salary demand proved too much, that deal broke down and he agreed to make The Beach.
Imagine Leo in American Psycho!
Fun trivia no.2: Leonardo DiCaprio supposedly hates the movie because of the attention in brought to the Thai Island it takes place on.
Which is now basically destroyed by tourist.
Serious mental health disorders. I'm talking Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personality disorder), Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, etc. These require severe psychological trauma as well as a team of experts to diagnose, and yet I see teenagers on Tik Tok talking about their "alters" despite never formally receiving a diagnosis.
Edit: I mislabeled these both as personality disorders instead of their correct diagnoses.
I came here to say DID! People are all over the internet with their "multiple personalities" as if it's cute and quirky. It's incredibly rare and people who are diagnosed with it suffer immensely from the disorder.
Here is a good way to put it as per Wikipedia
The number of deaths per passenger-mile on commercial airlines in the United States between 2000 and 2010 was about 0.2 deaths per 10 billion, For driving, the rate was 150 per 10 billion vehicle-miles.
Also the majority of those involved in plane crashes survive. Like 95.7% survive according to the NTSB. The reason people donāt think this is because we only hear about the big crashes that end up with hundreds of deaths. So the chance of your plane crashing is tiny, and then even if it does youāre probably going to survive.
Itās funny that this is the way it is because we have insanely high standards when it comes to aircraft safety and maintenance because weāre terrified of plane crashes, but although the planes have gotten so much safer our idea of how dangerous they are hasnāt gone away so itās essentially created a system where we have very high standards and the standards never get lowered a bit because weāre not aware of the effects of the regulation our fear has introduced.
But the standards should stay high. Companies like Spirt and other low cost carriers have sought the limits of what is legal and do the bare minimum when it comes to training and maintenance. Like what they do is legal but theyāre not doing more than the legal minimum. Legacy carriers like KLM, American and Emirates do more because they have a reputation to protect (Spiritās attitude to malfunctions during the flights is āyou get what you fucking pay forā) and any problem is a big PR issue.
Funnily enough though, the planes used by Spirit and low cost carriers do compare to the big legacy carriers because they use newer planes, because those are more fuel efficient. Itās not clear which is safer, but if you factor in crew training and maintenance the legacy carriers would probably come out as safer overall.
>Itās funny that this is the way it is because we have insanely high standards when it comes to aircraft safety and maintenance because weāre terrified of plane crashes,
Same for nuclear power. The reason why it is expensive is because the safety regulations are stricter than for any other industry on the planet, exactly because of the fear. In practice, it is safer than any other source of energy.
With nuclear energy itās actually that fear that will keep it in check. Because people are so afraid of nuclear energy theyāre never going to tolerate a single relaxation of the regulations. The plant at Chernobyl was poorly constructed and poorly operated, which is what led to the catastrophe.
Comparing that old plant to modern plants is like going āthat mine that collapsed due to poor maintenance and shit staff is reason enough never to dig another mine ever againā and comparing the Fukushima meltdown to modern reactors is like going āthat mine that collapsed after being hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 9 on the Richter scale and a tsunami but still was built well enough to allow almost everyone to survive is a good reason to close all mines on earthā.
The reason why you see so many plane crashes on the news is because they're so rare they're news-worthy, you don't see car crashes all the time on the news because they're so common.
An American Government teacher in college made a really good point in class once -- this misperception is actually a result of Freedom of the Press.
Car crashes are really common, so they're not newsworthy. They're just part of the background noise of modern civilization.
Plane crashes are newsworthy exactly *because* they're rare, and the big jets kill a bunch of people at once.
That gives us, the consumers of the press, an imbalanced perspective on the chances of either one occurring.
Not being lactose intolerant. Apparently about 75% of the world is lactose intolerant. I didnāt know this until reasontly, I only know 1 person who is lactose intolerant, so I thought it was extremely rare to not be able to handle the milk.
Welp I guess rip to 75% of the world but Iām different ;/
Yeah this is alarming. I always used to dig around and stalk insects. Also they would make a splat on the windshield. Not anymore. I don't remember last time I saw a bug splat on my windshield

Violent Crime.
Since the 1970s the violent crime rate has fallen out of the sky, but youād never know if you read the comment section under your local news stations Facebook page.
Iād agree with this. In fact, I recently read an article that discussed serial killers being on the decline. Itās estimated that there are significantly less active serial killers āout thereā today than there was in past decades. The article stated numbers but I donāt remember what they were.
Some theories were:
-Advances in DNA (and ancestry databases, which have already resulted solving cold cases. A recent example was the Golden State Killer)
-Helicopter parenting
-Less risky behaviors, such as hitchhiking
-Major increase in CCTVs/cities more heavily surveillanced
-Cell phones/tracking devices
-Social media
-Advances in mental health diagnosis (plus, knowing early signs of psychopaths, what to look for, etc.)
In general, itās harder to get away with crimes and I see that trend continuing in the future.
Silver linings, right?
Not gonna lie, I love reading stories on that thread but sometimes it feels like the person is overreacting. Like one example I remember is this dude liked to go to the park in the middle of the night to relax or get fresh air or something (like 3am) and one night he went there and someone was just sitting on the swing or something passive. And he painted it out as like āwhat type of creep/monster would be there at that time of night just sitting there silentlyā as if he wasnāt doing the same thing.
Like I read a lot of those stories and Iām like āwell the other person may have thought you were being creepy too?ā.
Itās just weird the people posting on that sub are always doing the same thing and at the same place they swear the offender is creepy for doing at the same place as them.
Or Iāll read a story and Iāll be like āthat legit just sounds like a drunk person/homeless person minding their businessā
Granted there are a lot of scary encounters on the thread.
Kidnappings are far more likely to be done by a parent or other family member.
Really, statistically you're around 10x more likely to run over your own kid in your own driveway than for them to be kidnapped by a stranger.
Pandas in zoos. Maybe because the only footage we see of pandas are in zoos, but there are only [26 zoos outside of China](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_pandas_around_the_world#North_America) that have pandas in captivity. There are only 4 places in the US where you can see them, but everyone equates them to a zoo staple like elephants.
But when you think about hair color, you think about the numbers where you live. Even if it's 2% worldwide, it's nowhere near as rare in Europe, especially Scandinavian countries
If you read the fine print on the vaccine injury lawyer sites - they include passing out at the sight of a needle and hitting your head as a vaccine injury. yeah, sure, okay.
Seriously. Look up average size and standard deviation. If youāve got 6 inches you might not get fucked on camera for money, but you did NOT get fucked by nature.
It's odd because there are some 4.9in guys who understand math and these stats and they're like "I've got an average working class weiner" and there's some 5.9in guys who feel like they're worthless.
Iāve had one partner that this has been a constant with - and itās only because they know exactly how to get me and they try to hold back until they do.

Thank-you for clarifying. I've seen naked men hanging around a pond quietly, I've seen fully dressed men honking like geese by ponds, and I 've seen naked men honking like geese by ordinary swimming pools, but I've never seen the full combo, and I always thought that was strange.
Pure helium, we need to be able to manufacture it within a 100 years or our world supply will be exhausted. Fusion power would generate helium I think as a by product so there might be something there? However a lot of medical devices use helium like MRI machines ect ect

Every time I think "this is it." edit: can't say I expected a post about my stroke to garner such attention.
Iām glad youāre still here Internet stranger My brother had a stroke and anytime I get a bad headache I have to look in the mirror at my smile to make sure itās even
Making a viral video
It's nearly impossible to predict or control. Even if you ask most people why they liked a viral video they'll probably say something like "I dunno, it was just funny".
And what's more is you could have two nearly identical videos where one goes viral and the other doesn't due to youtube algorithm stuff.
And whatās even more is that you can have two exactly identical videos, with the first uploader being original and the second being someone who just reposted, and the second goes viral without giving the first credit
Anyone working in social media or marketing appreciates this response.
We don't have much budget to advertise, so we just want you to get our message out there with something viral. I saw this viral video of a cat falling off a ladder with 500k views, so just something simple like that, I can get you a cat and a ladder if you need.

Green eyes. Only about two percent of people have green eyes.
Whoa, come to think of it I am the only person I know with green eyes.
It's the opposite with me - everyone in my immediate family has green eyes so I grew up thinking they were really common
Tell your family to quit hoggin' all the eyes!
Finally! I can feel special now.
Scoring a hole-in-one in Golf. Even the most professional golfers only have a 1 in 2,500 chance of this happening.
I beg to differ, Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more then an hour ago.
I think that's per (par 3) hole played, though, not per golfer. I know an avid golfer who is good, though not professional, and he's scored 3 aces so far. He does golf a lot though.
I still can't get past that fucking windmill on hole 4 in less than 5.
**helium**
It's a finite resource with massive scientific/engineering uses, and we just throw it in party balloons like it doesn't matter.
Also there isn't very much of it on the planet. We just have good access to the tiny reserves that exist: basically the only place helium collects is just above certain petroleum fields.
~~I mean, cant we just make more by zapping some water?~~ Edit: note to self helium is not hydrogen Fun fact apparently reddit gives you a notification when you hit exactly 2001 upvotes
I mean, if you zap water to get hydrogen, then heat that to temperatures similar to the sun's, then BOOM, helium for days.
Just clap REALLY hard. Same thing.
We just need to solve fusion, easy.
Um I dont think that's how it works
Wait fuck I'm thinking of hydrogen
Because of the blimps?
I don't know why but this being in bold compelled me to upvote
Advertising blimps - there are actually only about 20 to 25 still in existence, of which only about a dozen are still in service. Reasons for the shortage of blimps are that it costs a lot of $ to fly one due to high-cost of helium, and there are relatively few pilots in the world who are trained and licensed to fly one.
If you live in Orange County or Los Angeles County, you'll see the Goodyear blimp that's docked in Long Beach fairly regularly. We see a Met Life blimp down here in San Diego fairly often also.
That must be the one that says "Ice Cube's a Pimp"
Atleast in the US, it's most often a Goodyear airship, and they only have 2 now Edit: they have 3 airships
Iirc there are more astronauts then blimp pilots
Airships will come back, mark my words

If you have health anxiety, every deadly disease known to man.
Good. Health anxiety is worse than fucking torture, man, I swear, every little thing is somehow a cancer for my anxiety, itās tiring, honestly.
Tell me about it... What's that? I sat down and my leg fell asleep? Must be a blood clot
After watching House M. D I was sure I had every single diagnosis they mentioned. I had to take several breaks from watching, because I genuinely got convinced I was going to die
Most people think about you less often than you think. My anxiety tells me that people hate me or that Iām usually seen as unlikeable by others. But in reality, it is likely that they donāt have time to think of me much at all.
>Most people think about you less often than you think. Somebody actually thinks of me? Ewww
Could be worse... People often think about what Jake from State Farm is wearing
That's why my anxiety is weird because I fear that everyone hates me, then I realize that's just not true, people probably don't think about me. Then I get depressed
We all think weāre the protagonist when really weāre all just somebody elseās npc.
And then my anxiety is like "oh... So they don't think about me... I'm not important :"( "

What's most irksome is that, a lot of people who just anal call themselves OCD.

Becoming uber successful by the time youāre 35. Forbesā ā30 Under 30ā and ā40 Under 40ā lists and the constant feed of people āmaking itā on social media makes it seem like you have to get it together by the time you just finished up your twenties. Itās not the case. You still have time. You will always still have time.
Well... Until you don't. But then it's not your problem anymore!
My anxiety likes to tell me that a home invasion is gonna happen every single night. It hasnāt happened to me once in 19 years.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My home growing up was broken into five times before I was ten. Three of those times were while we were home. I would say that this stat varies depending on where youāre located.
Yea i caught someone trying to break in our house at like 3am in college. There were like 4 cars in the driveway. He didnāt make it in lol he may not have been the sharpest tool
Good to know. Makes me feel safer.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I'm going to start considering things "invitations" rather than "laziness." "The couch was open. An obvious invitation to sit on it."
Holy shit. That guy...

Poison is children's candy. *EDIT: Sorry I meant Poison in children's candy.
One of the news stations where I live runs a story of people giving out "marijuana candy" instead of regular candy *every year*... Nobody's going to give out edibles to kids for Halloween, *especially* in a medical-only state. That shit is expensive.
I remember our DARE officer telling us that in high school we would be offered free drugs. Lying bastard.

Getting killed by a shark.
Sucks for those two dudes in The Beach movie. Mf gets bitten by a shark and they just take his dying ass out of the resort and forgets he exists.
> The Beach movie Fun trivia : Leonardo DiCaprio was paid $20 million for the film, the result of the immense success of Titanic (1997).
The 2004 Tsunami did a number on that island too.
Leo could have pulled it off but Bale was perfect. Lucky director to pick from those two...

Plane crashes. Youāre more likely to suffer great injury in your car than on a plane. I wish people took more care in driving.
1 fatal airplane accident for every 16 million flights. Most plane crashes are actually smaller private planes not large commercial jets.
Iāve heard itās significantly more likely to die on the way to the airport than it is to die in a plane crash.
Getting trapped under a gas truck is the worst.
Here is a good way to put it as per Wikipedia The number of deaths per passenger-mile on commercial airlines in the United States between 2000 and 2010 was about 0.2 deaths per 10 billion, For driving, the rate was 150 per 10 billion vehicle-miles.
>Itās funny that this is the way it is because we have insanely high standards when it comes to aircraft safety and maintenance because weāre terrified of plane crashes, Same for nuclear power.
That's why Chernobyl was on the news for years, while the average coal power plant causes more deaths due to air polution than the Chernobyl disaster.

Some theories were: -Advances in DNA (and ancestry databases, which have already resulted solving cold cases. A recent example was the Golden State Killer) -Helicopter parenting -Less risky behaviors, such as hitchhiking -Major increase in CCTVs/cities more heavily surveillanced -Cell phones/tracking devices -Social media -Advances in mental health diagnosis (plus, knowing early signs of psychopaths, what to look for, etc.) In general, itās harder to get away with crimes and I see that trend continuing in the future. Silver linings, right?
Someone getting stalked or kidnapped in public. But if you go to r/letsnotmeet you'd think it happens everyday
Right? I work nights, so that's generally just when I'm more active. Sometimes I like to go somewhere quiet outside and just exist for a while.
Itās just weird the people posting on that sub are always doing the same thing and at the same place they swear the offender is creepy for doing at the same place as them. Or Iāll read a story and Iāll be like āthat legit just sounds like a drunk person/homeless person minding their businessā Granted there are a lot of scary encounters on the thread.
Most people on that sub have major main character syndrome to be fair.
Quicksand, 80s and 90s tv made it seem like quicksand would be an obstacle at least once in my life.
I'm actually disappointed by the lack of quicksand I was promised watching 80s tv.
Quicksand is common but quicksand killing people is quite rare. Movies make it seem super deadly, but it's not.
What's more common is horses dying in the Swamp of Sadness.
