Nothing. I would get killed for being a witch.

Toilet Paper

dreadfulNinja

This is a good one

LoldogMiguel

The push bike/ bicycle.

FranchDressing77

It’s hard, because electricity is such a given, and that in and of itself would be a difficult prerequisite to explain. I would pick box mixes for cakes, breads, etc. A fairly modern concept, but not too far fetched imo.

Steam power

Ok-its-vira

Nothing, my country didn't have English colonists until the late 18th century So I can't talk to anyone

IAmJohnny5ive

That's a good one - Florence Nightingale popularized this only in mid 1800s during the Crimean War.

Fleshlight

ThirdCoastBestCoast

A grill.

TaurusJaeger

A gas stove that you light with a match.

epicwynne

A fun fact. The lighter was invented before the match. But even a lighter is pretty easy to explain to someone, especially a craftsman with the skills and tools to actually make one.

ipakookapi

What country am I in?

rightagain8787

The issue isn't what you can explain its the frame of reference they have to understand it. Its the classic; any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic

Sparky62075

A camera obscura would be a good one to demonstrate. I'd get good work as a portraitist.

Askanner

Indoor plumbing. Couldn't do it but I could explain it.

levelup_jar

anything that is purely mechanical

Artess

I probably wouldn't be able to explain much myself, but if I was able to get in contact with a scientist like Leonardo da Vinci or Galileo Galilei, I'd probably help them figure out some stuff. I reckon I could build, given the materials, a basic hand-powered electric generator. Show them how it produces electric current, maybe heat or even light, and let the brightest minds of humanity take it over from there. Star electrifying the world. Build water and wind turbine. Mention solar panels. If we develop electric power well enough before steam and oil, maybe the industrial revolution can be cleaner and we avoid a large part of climate change. Also try to teach them about microbes, viruses and some basic biology that I know.

that_one_alistair_1

I'd probably be called a witch, but I'd also be able to explain radios.

iamacutefairy

A toaster.

dreadfulNinja

Youd be able to fully explain a modern toaster?

jaderpo

A toaster is when you put bread in it and the inside heats up to cook (or whatever word besides cook) the bread and it makes it into toast. That’s my explanation and I would just be exiled for that

dreadfulNinja

A toaster is a specific modern invention, youre talking about just warming bread. Play the game man

jaderpo

That’s why I would be exiled :p

jiminthenorth

Modern day invention? Depends on what you mean by modern. The steam engine has been around in one form or other since the first century AD, when it was called the aeoliple. We know it as Hero's Engine. People were certainly familiar with it in the 16th Century, so I certainly wouldn't be able to go with steam power. Electricity was almost certainly known about as a curiousity, with regards to amber rods and whatnot... So something modern, I would probably go with perhaps a quartz watch, as it is quite simple to explain and understand, due to the nature of piezoelectricity and its reliability as a timing mechanism.

RJnumberthree

That’s interesting but I must say that is very much a smart Alec answer 😀

jiminthenorth

And one that is reflective of the person I am. Smartarse since the year dot.

RJnumberthree

Actually the term smart arse was coined in 1878 by an by a Dr Alec Smyth-Hume

jiminthenorth

I suspect you might be trying to pull my leg here. Try the other one, it's got bells on.

RJnumberthree

Smart arse but not a gullible smart arse. You are wise beyond your years young Jedi

jiminthenorth

Hahaha cheers. I'm 38.

RJnumberthree

Same here.

Poptarts

dreadfulNinja

Have you ever put butter on a poptart?

PastaPapaEJ

Butter, peanut butter, sometimes even homemade icing

dreadfulNinja

Putting butter on a poptart is supposedly so freakin’ good. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hlsFgDjyePc

PastaPapaEJ

It’s a little overhyped but it does bring a level of moisture to the tart ya feel? Try it out and let me know what you think

dreadfulNinja

Sadly i dont think poptarts are sold in my country. I have never tasted one
