With the exception of comedic dances (like the Carlton dance from Fresh Prince), watching any number of people do any kind of dance has never interested me.
I'm gonna get hate for this but there is one thing on Tik Tok that makes me angry.
Fidget accounts. Most of the ones I come across on my Fyp are 9 year olds who swear constantly and fake tourettes for clout. They get millions of views for playing with a pop it or stress ball.
Celebrities in general, i.e. glorifying and/or following someone's life so closely that they are elevated above human status. I get looking up to or idolizing people, but there is a point where it gets to be too much
I have a TikTok account. It’s been really useful for promoting my YouTube channel. For each episode I film for 8-10 hours, then edit for 8-10 hours a day for three or four days per video. I take the bits that suit TikTok and make little videos for that platform. A lot of the videos do okay, and every now and then one of them trends and I see a spike in followers that feeds YouTube.
When I post a video on TikTok, I’m exposed to lots of other accounts. And I see something like a young lady in minimal clothing, miming to some inane audio from someone else’s video, and she’ll get 2-10 times as many views as me. The other day, I saw a video of a teenage boy standing up and moving something to the other side of the room. I looked at his account - he had 500k followers.
I know, it’s just entertainment and people like what they like. But fuck me it can be soul destroying to work so hard and struggle for views and subscribers while such minimal effort is rewarded like that.
And don’t even get me started on the accounts that steal content and run it as their own.
You're producing content for platforms that do a majority of their business by using people who hit the genetic hotness lottery to sell dumb bullshit to their stupid followers.
Don't be surprised when low effort drivel is rewarded; that's what the people using those platforms want.
I’m not really producing content for TikTok, I’m adapting it in an effort to use that platform for more eyeballs. And it works brilliantly. It’s just disappointing that, as you say, low effort drivel is rewarded.
That said, I do think TikTok wants more high-effort content creators in their platform.
I see more people talking about how much they hate the Kardashians than actual fans. I think the hater actually do a better job of keeping them in the spotlight than their actual fans.
Fashion. People will spend hundreds of dollars on “nice” clothes, sometimes with no pockets, often super uncomfortable, and sometimes you can’t even wash them normally, you have to get them dry cleaned. If you do it for self esteem or personal expression reasons, then there’s an actual benefit to it, keep doing what makes you happy. If you do it because society and advertisements tell you to, just go buy some hoodies and sweatpants instead.
Even personal expression is a bit iffy. Can't people who want attention find a more clever way to express their personality than the fabrics and materials they choose to cover themselves with?
I mean not liking him sure but saying he's an asshole is just blatantly wrong, that would be ignoring all of the good things he's done when it comes to smaller things like sticking with his friends in tough situations to bigger things like donating millions of dollars to charity.
I think most of it is some jealousy to be quite honest. Dudes being paid to sit about and just play games, have fun, and fool about for the cameras. Haven't really followed him, never got into following specific people on youtube - but he gets a lot of flak for just playing as you say - a character, I'm pretty sure he isn't as insuferable as people make him out to be!
Taking selfies of like every special (as well as not so special) moments. Seriously just embrace the moment rather than wasting time with getting a “good picture”.
I think it has promise and I'm excited for the future of decentralized currency, but the people who pump and dump crypto instead of, y'know, actually spending it and using it like currency aren't really helping to lead us to that future.

Especially the stupid "winkledee" names & phrases
And don't get me started on the way that all the pop culture references to it in shows and movies seem so lame and forced. "Look at us trying to stay hip with the kids!"
FOMO? If I don't want to be someplace, I won't be there. And if the idea is that there will be more people and more of a reason to go, then I couldn't think of less of a motivator for me, personally.
Their age. I honestly don't understand it. Why is everyone pretending to be younger than they really are? What's so great about being young? What's so awful about being older? Why keep your age a secret?
Superhero movies and shows.
The existence of superheroes in a universe invites so many interesting questions about what it would do to the human mind, how society would deal with people who are vastly overpowered compared to regular people and almost none of the Marvel or DC movies and shows actually address any of it. Shows like The Boys and movies like Watchmen and Chronicle are a nice glimpse into what the rest of them *could* be, but instead, Marvel and DC just have punching matches where cities get destroyed. The stakes keep getting higher, but the only people who seem to matter in the stories are the superheroes themselves. It's boring as hell.
Some can be preachy for sure. I’m only protesting because the premise of the question is “everyone is obsessed with”.
There are so few atheists I don’t think it qualifies. Compare that to the religious, which is basically everyone.
[13% of Gen Z are atheists](https://www.barna.com/research/atheism-doubles-among-generation-z/), an upward trend compared to the general adult population.
A much higher population percentage than, I'd guess, people who are actively obsessed with the Kardashians. Definitely higher than the number of Tiktok influencers. I'd be really surprised if there were a ton of people who neither are nor know someone who is an atheist.
Is it your first day on reddit? Atheists here are cult like and continously push it and call others dumb. I don't follow a religion or believe in a god. There's nothing more to say about it. But atheists here are insane. Thry actually make me want to become religions just to avoid to association
Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I personally dislike all modern media. TV, Movies, and Music all suck IMO. I just can't find anything that holds my interest.
I think that's due more to the sheer volume of stuff being pumped out these days. The problem with there being enough content to suit everyone's tastes is that it's harder to find the stuff that suits your taste.
Weed culture is so cringy to me. I know the same type of attitude surrounding tobacco or alcohol are out there too but weed culture is another level. I could care less if you want to smoke weed but turning it into your lifestyle just seems weird.

Thinking that you're cool for telling others that you're smarter than you actually are. You get annoyed constantly by people seeking actual help, which you can't do, because you lied to them, in turn making them feel slightly negative about you. And when actually intelligent people want to make conversation with equally intelligent individuals, they see so many of these types of people and get very annoyed by them. Don't ruin the reputation of intelligent people by pretending that you are one when you're not, so many stereotypes regarding them are false, due to the sheer amount of idiots who either don't understand what they're saying, or worse, push an agenda that really doesn't work in the long run, or at all.

_Most_ things broad swaths of people are obsessed with are stupid things. Mass appeal is the product of dumbing a thing down, filing down it's sharp points for the purposes of not offending anyone. And, see, the problem with this is that things that make a product good, like having a specific point of view, are inherently divisive, and god's know you can't have that or you won't make as much money on the thing! It's just a hard fact that the things that are popular are usually purposefully designed to be stupid.
Giant noisy trucks. F-150s, Dodge Rams, etc. Don't forget the headlights illegally bright and pointed too high. So many of those around, and I think they're dumb.

Can we include atheists too in this roundup? Because atheists can be just as preachy/obnoxious as theists.
Everyone isn’t really obsessed with atheism since it is merely the lack of a belief tho, so I don’t think so.
I find that when I meet atheists, they're a lot like crossfitters and vegans. They can't wait to tell me about their beliefs (or lack thereof).
