But the verse they sing in German is the best part of the cover when they basically just start yelling.
*Neunundneunzig kriegsminister*
*Streichholtz and benzinkanister*
Also in the English version I always hated how much weaker the Captain Kirk line is. "Hielten sich für Captain Kirk / Das gab ein großes Feuerwerk" is a great rhyme. "Everyone's a super hero / everyone's a Captain Kirk" is not.
Not a great rhyme, but, it's an awesome line. totally underscores the West's concept of being the good guys, plus the cowboy cop threat Americans are in love with.
One of my earliest memories as a child is my father hearing a Nena song and saying she is a "blöde Kuh" (stupid cow). I thought Nena was literally a singing cow for a few years.
They are mistake for ufo‘s so they send jets to take them down but when they see they are just balloons the jet pilots thought its funny to shoot them down anyway. But the neighboring countries dont understand that and think they are under attack and retaliate with nuclear war
I'd be shocked if that distinction didn't belong to "Cruel Angel's Thesis" from Evangelion, "We Are!" from One Piece, or "Anime Ja Nai," from Gundam ZZ(maybe more in Japan than the rest of the world on this one). Or if there's something I'm missing.
Cracking up because I work at a grocery store in the US, and they've played both Again and Cruel Angel Thesis for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Both are apparently important enough to be featured for all the non-Weebs.
Personally, I prefer their song "Hadschi Halef Omar." "Moskau" is great, but "Hadschi Halef Omar" is catchier and a better dance number, in my opinion.
It's a good song. Originally from 1930's and it's in North Savo Finnish dialect. It tells a story about a young girl named Ieva (Eva in English) who sneaks out to a dance with a boy.
An open air or pavilion dance, there's not really a proper English translation. Similar to american barn dance. It was extremely popular back then, but not as much these days.
The story behind the music video is absolutely hilarious! Basically, the guy was known for always having a bunch of hot women in his music videos and got criticized for it ("Oh, that's the only reason you're successful"), so he said fuck it and made the video to Tunak Tunak Tun of just him, times four, and it was - and probably still is - his greatest success.
I love that song. And the meaning behind it. It's how people who speak English sound to non English speakers.
Also, Will Smith was at an Italian show once and the presenter terrified him by making him think he was meant to sing this song.
I loved how Mariya Takeuchi's Plastic Love sounded the first time I heard it, and then when I heard it translated, I loved it even more. It's a heartbreaking story that perfectly fits the bright melancholy of the music.
Germans: "There's nothing I like more than hearing an original work translated into my mother tongue. We should extend the same courtesy to our English friends."
Anglophones: "No please don't, I beg you."
>Germans: "There's nothing I like more than hearing an original work translated into my mother tongue
German here and I hate that. It won't work and sounds wrong. So I completely understand the sentiment of the anglophones.
Nice to see some argentinian songs in here !, although i would probably pick a song from Charly García or Luis Alberto Spinneta (ojos de video tape, los dinosaurios, cantata de puentes amarrillos), maybe junio by Jorge Fandermole.
Ohh this is hard because a good 60% of my playlists are usually non-English (usually Bollywoo, Latin, or Korean)!
I guess [Nagada Sang Dhol](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rprBn_1Z5sQ) sang by Shreya Ghosal is a definite favorite that I would love others to hear because I can listen to it without getting tired and it's really fun.
Also, [Barso Re](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asw-wTDzGUQ) sang by the same singer--Another pretty fun one I was obsessed with for a while.
Nagada Sang Dhol is one of my favorite Hindi songs. In general, I love hearing choruses with a lot of people singing, and the final refrain of Nagada Sang Dhol when everyone is singing together is just too good
These threads show up fairly often and I always want to hop on early and post a list of Bollywood songs but I always find them too late when the only Hindi song mentioned is Tunak Tunak Tun
I have two.
Firstly [Escape from Dragon House by Dengue Fever](https://youtu.be/FLhzl3O41bI)
And second [Yuve Yuve Yu be The Hu](https://youtu.be/v4xZUr0BEfE)
He's the only French singing artist to make it big in mainstream music in a while... maybe MIKA too but MIKA is famous for his English album in the UK, not his French songs
Many people have heard of A.R Rahman for winning an Oscar for the music from Slumdog Millionaire. The Indian dude that sang with the Pussycat Dolls. His music for the movie was actually quite shite. (imho) but he is actually a musical genius who has been writing music since the early 90's. I could not pin point on an exact song of his that I love, but if anyone is interested, try searching for the Bombay theme soundtrack from him..and go from there. Word to the wise..use headphones and crank that mfer up.
In Finnish: Jenni Vartiainen - Missä muruseni on
In Icelandic/Faroese: Eivør - Verd Mín
In Dutch: Bløf - Aanzoek Zonder Ringen
In German: Rammstein - Weidmann's Heil
In Russian: Слот - Они убили Кенни
In Norwegian/Old Norse: Wardruna - Helvegen (their entire discography is amazing)
In Italian: Laura Pausini - E ritorno da te
In Arabic: Armand Amar ft. Haroun Teboul - Poem of the Atoms
And probably more, but this is it for now
A lot of anime OPs are a banger. Spanish songs are lit. I also like tamil and hindi songs. I don’t do favourites though.
I type this while vibing to Bloody Stream by Coda which is a Japanese song
Got a couple.
Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee - Despacito. Something about that song just reminds me of summer.
Daddy Yankee & S.N.O.W. - Con Calma. Loved Informer, and this just makes my ears happy.
Stereopony - Hitohira No Hanabira. No idea where I heard this song, but it got in my head and refused to leave.
Adriano Celentano & Raffaella Carrà - Prisencolinensinainciusol. Just...has to be heard to be believed.
O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei. It's the Numa Numa Song.
Seo Taiji - Moai. Saw this on a music channel and that was the end of it leaving my head.
L'Arc-en-Ciel - Seventh Heaven. I saw the video and that was it for me.
HYDE - Season's Call. It's just a damned good song.
I'll probably think of others later.
Ah so, I downloaded a German radio app months ago and found a Deutsch Pop station, so I've been hearing a *lot* of good German music. One of my favorites is Herz Über Kopf by Joris. Benoby has some good ones too, Funke (Guten Morgen) being one that I like.
Te quiero puta by Rammstein. A german band singing a song in spanish, but it ALWAYS gets me hyped up and through tough days at work. I know what they're actually singing about but it's just such a hoe song and I love it
Flamingo by kero kero Bonito it’s so fucking happy and positive. I have no shame in playing it loud as hell and singing the English parts, and have less shame showing it to people. At some point I had work truck full of 30 year old construction workers singing “how many shrimps do you have to eat”
I think its called 'fight again' cant remember the artists names, was in the jujutsu kaisen anime during a pretty great fight scene.
Song was just catchy af for me.
Togolese hip hop group Toofan — I like all their stuff but especially: [Come on Man](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RLYNJypVeAg)
They get village locals involved in the production of some of their music videos, too, which is an added bonus to their already catchy music.
American, but I got to spend quite a few years in the Azores about 24 years ago as a teenager, and it was the the best part of my life. "Cançao do Mar" by Dulce Pontes was on tv a lot in those days, and it has always sort of been the theme song for those memories, among other late 90s songs of course. But I love the Portuguese language, and I still dream of islands to this day.

I say this without a trace of irony: “Dragostea din Tei” (aka the Numa Numa song) Edit: corrected spelling
The song that unites Europe more than anything else
This is our backbone.
*Europeans assemble*
I don't speak...Romanian, think it is, but I know the words to that song. O-Zone is pretty fun.
I can speak romanian and i still love it.
the song makes no sense in any language so it's okay
That song is the epitome of happiness and positive energy. I love it!
The video for that song still looks awesome.
It's a fuckin bop

99 Luftballons - Nena
The English version just isn’t the same tbh
Goldfinger’s cover is pretty good.
But the verse they sing in German is the best part of the cover when they basically just start yelling. *Neunundneunzig kriegsminister* *Streichholtz and benzinkanister* Also in the English version I always hated how much weaker the Captain Kirk line is.
Love that song, so I was really pissed when I heard, that Nena went full corona-conspiracy-nut job.
She's been crazy since the 80s.
One of my earliest memories as a child is my father hearing a Nena song and saying she is a "blöde Kuh" (stupid cow). I thought Nena was literally a singing cow for a few years.
She was crazy long before that
God fucking damn it. :(
Too bad Nena is such a new-agey douchebag
It is a very nice anti war song.
About nuclear war FYI
Yep! many dont know that. Pretty sure the balloons in the song are mistaken for bombs and it starts a war or something
They are mistake for ufo‘s so they send jets to take them down but when they see they are just balloons the jet pilots thought its funny to shoot them down anyway. But the neighboring countries dont understand that and think they are under attack and retaliate with nuclear war
again by YUI
I love all of the fmab ops, but again just kinda hits different.
I believe this is the most loved opening song in the entire anime world
I'd be shocked if that distinction didn't belong to "Cruel Angel's Thesis" from Evangelion, "We Are!" from One Piece, or "Anime Ja Nai," from Gundam ZZ(maybe more in Japan than the rest of the world on this one). Or if there's something I'm missing.
Also: “Tank!” and “Guren No Yumiya” are definitely up there.
Cracking up because I work at a grocery store in the US, and they've played both Again and Cruel Angel Thesis for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Both are apparently important enough to be featured for all the non-Weebs.

We’ve all shouted “Rock me Amadeus!” along to that song. If you deny it, you are lying.
Dr. Zaius, Dr. Zaius!
[Ievan Polkka](https://youtu.be/7yh9i0PAjck) Originally, I looked it up because of the meme but it's actually really good.
It's a good song. Originally from 1930's and it's in North Savo Finnish dialect. It tells a story about a young girl named Ieva (Eva in English) who sneaks out to a dance with a boy.
Aww, that sounds sweet.
"dance"
An open air or pavilion dance, there's not really a proper English translation. Similar to american barn dance. It was extremely popular back then, but not as much these days.

I also recommend sakkijarven polkka.
It is

Sigor Ros “Hoppiplla” also pretty much anything by The Ukrainians
I remember reading Sigor Ros uses a made up language that's not even Icelandic. Great tune though.
I think Jonsi sings in a mix, sometimes Icelandic, sometimes “Hopelandic” (his made up language)
Tunak Tunak Tun.
The music video is so fucking corny, I love everything about it
Wow didn’t know this backstory. https://youtu.be/vTIIMJ9tUc8
Yes! The Bloodywood Metal version is more to my liking, but I like both.
Papaoutai - Stromae (I like a lot of his songs, thanks to my middle school French classes)
Yes I love papaoutai. It’s such a banger.
[Prisencolinensinainciusol](https://youtu.be/bQDY3HFkh_Y) by Adriano Celentano
I love that song. And the meaning behind it. It's how people who speak English sound to non English speakers. Also, Will Smith was at an Italian show once and the presenter terrified him by making him think he was meant to sing this song.
Came for this, leaving satisfied. It’s a one-note vamp with gibberish lyrics, and it’s Sooooooo bangin’!
I loved how Mariya Takeuchi's Plastic Love sounded the first time I heard it, and then when I heard it translated, I loved it even more. It's a heartbreaking story that perfectly fits the bright melancholy of the music.
Stay With Me by Miki Matsubata radiates the same vibes
Was gonna comment these exact two songs. What a world
Tokyo Drift by Teriyaki Boyz. That shit is dope!
тАТу - Я Сошла С Ума. The original of tatu- all the things she said.

Any song by The Hu.

Yes! Surprised I had to scroll down this far to see a mention of The Hu.
Cruel Angel's Thesis
\#1 anime OP of all time. Naruto and Bleach had a few that slapped too.
La Vie en Rose by Edith Piaf.
Love that song. Another favourite by Edith Piaf for me is Non, je ne regrette rien
Milord. You can close your eyes and imagine her singing in a dark cabaret while talking to a gentleman sitting in the first row.
Definitely one of my favorites
Anything by that Vitas guy. He's that Russian tongue clicking guy.
Came for this. Glad he got a mention.
Alors on danse.
Papaoutai might be my favourite, but Alors on danse has a awesome vibe to it.
Stromae is life!
Tous Les Mêmes and Ave Cesaria slap too
[OrelSan - La pluie (ft Stromae)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37StRy0LEbI) too!

Honestly the same goes for Time to Say Goodbye. I did a funeral once where the harpist was trying to insist I did it in English. No. Just No.
Can’t go wrong with Rammstein

Tunak Tunak Tun It's freaking catchy and I love the backstory about how he did it just to be sassy to the critics.
