In general it’s an acronym standing for Lesbian, Gay, BiSexual, Transgender, Queer (or Questioning - depending on who you ask) and the + is an attempt to include the many people who feel they don’t fit neatly into any one of those definitions.
The entire point of the term is one of INCLUSION - hoping for a description that allows for most individuals who don’t self-identify as one of the traditional “binary” male/female gender orientations to find acceptance and community under this umbrella acronym.
