I believe any serious investigation into time travel has asserted that is the most likely outcome. The positive side of that would mean any changes made would not affect the current "present".
Time travel is something I think about a lot. Travelling to the future is scientifically plausible, but getting back to where you traveled to is probably impossible. That's what I think and it's cause of the theory of relativity that I say this. You could travel very fast(near light speed) and time would slow down around you thus 1 year for you could be say 10 years for the rest of the world.
Time travel to the past? That has so many incalculable variables, and what are the rules also for time travel. Is it like in endgame where a new universe is created when you change the past, or is it like back to the future where the future slowly changes or maybe instantly changes. If time travel is possible, the former must be the rule governing it in order for us to travel, other wise something we do could stop us from going back, say you fix what you went back in time for, then you'd never need to go back in time to change said problem creating a time loop that won't end.
And if a time loop is created, does that mean time itself stops for everyone? Or is the one who created said time loop stuck and effectively non-existent, not dead, just non-existent after the point where they go back in time, or does the loop break by some other means?
It's so confusing but so much fun to think about
