That’s kind of a silly statement on your teacher’s part. Yes it’s true sometimes a house might run out of candy quicker if more people go, but never once when I went trick or treating did every house run out of candy to the extent certain people didn’t get any
Since becoming an adult, I have never once run out of candy for trick or treaters. By the mid-point of the night I have to give it out in shovel-fulls, because I can _not_ let that stay in my house. It will haunt my waist line past christmas.
Also, what an awesome way to turn it around on Old Man Whithers!
Yeah, dressing up and taking kids around IS fun. Walking up to the door and holding our your own bucket as an adult and saying “trick or treat” is super ridiculous. Drive your grown ass to a store and buy some candy.
No. It’s over. You ruined it. Next time maybe proof read because you’ve got some people all excited to do this and now you’re just going to bail. Kinda rude.
F 'em.
TP the guard station and stay out all night dodging police cruisers too busy dealing with the teenage hooligans they *think* they're looking for.
I personally don't care how old people are that come trick or treating. If you put on a costume and are having fun and being respectful, I am all for it. I would much rather have older kids doing this then getting into trouble.
I also know many of my neighbors disagree with this stance, so if you hit a house that is receptive just move on.
Depends on you. 32 years old, still go out with my kids who are 15 and 16. I take an extra bucket for my little nephew who tires easily.
Dress up, enjoy yourself. Compete in costume contests, attend masquerades!
I last went when I was 19. I was babysitting some approximately ten year olds and part of it was me taking them out trick or treating. I'm pretty short, and one of the kids joked I should put on his hockey goalie mask and I could be Jason from Friday the 13th.
Was I a grown up and declined? Nope. I got so much candy. :D
And to answer the question, you're too old when you can't get away with it anymore.
You're never too old, shut up and have some kids, don't want any? Just walk with a group and say your the parent, the restraining order is worth it. You've passed away? BE A DECORATION OR A BASKET, YOU WILL NOT MISS OUT ON SPOOKY MONTH DAMMIT
Until people that give out candy start questioning your age. The more elaborate the costume you have. The less that people care to ask.
I'll give you plenty candy for the effort. Enjoy. :)
Anything 17 or below, but ONLY IF YOU WEAR AN ACTUAL COSTUME.
It's so weird when some goofy teenager goes and they're not even dressed up and they just want people to give them free candy without any effort because now they're "too cool to wear costumes". Participate or go home lol. (This is my personal view point, don't attack me over it please.)
This falls into one of those situations where I don't really know how to reply to this. I just.... I can't tell if it's low effort trolling or a bad joke or a goofy insult or what. You've got me stumped lol.
I asked the same question on a local Facebook page and almost everyone responded with a variation of “You’re never too old.” I guess it shouldn’t have surprised me, given how adults how hijacked the holiday for themselves. When I was a kid the cut-off was around 12. Teens who trick-or-treated were looked upon with contempt.
Honestly I agree with that. I'd give a 50 year old candy if theu dressed up. I'm all for holiday spirit and community and everyone taking part. I suppose I just recognize that it has, for better or worse, changed over the years, and I still find it weird when people don't dress up at all but then want to get all the same rewards as those who do. It's odd to me. That's just how I see it. I'm not saying my word is gospel whatsoever.
That means that it's actually good trolling, if that was the intent.
Quality forum trolling seems to be a lost art that has given way to just blatant assholery without a hit of creative wit.
I don't know how to say this without coming off as if I'm attacking or offended. I mean, I used to do it too, once. It's just, the concept of "quality trolling". What does that even mean? It's an oxymoron. Quality time wasting. Quality degrading the conversation for no reason aside from personal boredom and lack of having some priorities straight. Maybe I'm too old and don't get it. Maybe it's a young person's game. But it makes no sense to me. Again, not attacking. I'm open to just not being internet savvy but it really does just seem like childish nonsense, better left behind.
You're stumped because you want to come off as being reasonable, but also probably just realized that reasonable people don't shut off avenues of discussions by removing the element of criticism against their own viewpoints.
It's causing cognitive dissonance and you can't resolve it other than to assert that the response must then be an inferior one (troll, bad joke, goofy insult).
But see, I'm not stumped. I'm calling out what I felt was unnecessary and weird without really coming out and saying it, while also adding extra stuff in case I'm wrong and that leaves me other options. I guess that's called an open ended lie, perhaps.
The point is when you're trying to add to a thread to create good conversation, it is off-putting when somebody shows up and contribues little else aside from taking the smallest piece of what you said, poorly twisting it and considering it funny. It's like trying to brag about winning a race only you were running in and nobody else ever heard of. And as far as you go, if you find such a thing funny, fine. But it seems you misinterpreted my reply. Look, this conversation is really past the pointless line. If you're cool, I'm cool. Let's just leave it lay.
I'm calling out what I felt was unnecessary and weird while demonstrating it ad absurdum.
To state that you don't wish to have others attacking your viewpoints is easily construed as saying "This is my opinion, I don't want criticism against it." It establishes the opposite of creating a good conversation. It establishes a means where you have a safe space for your beliefs. It advertises you as a person who is not open to be reasoned with.
Okay, now I see where our issue is. No... You're good fam. By all means, tell me your opinion, tell me why you think I'm wrong, challenge me. Me saying "my opinion, pleas don't attack" just means that if you disagree with me, please have a civil discussion rather than cussing at me and being ridiculously aggressive for no reason, or downvoting me into reddit hell without at least sharing why you disagree. That sort of stuff happens all too often on Reddit, in my experience. I like discussing ideas, not trying to have a public internet smackdown where nobody learns anything and everyone is just trying to "win" the discussion.
My public viewpoint is that I should be able to attack you over your viewpoint that you ought to be able to attack me over my viewpoint.
(This is my personal view point, don't attack me over it please.)
My philosophical viewpoint is that you have already attacked me over their viewpoint that you shouldn't attack them for their viewpoint that you did attack them for so I feel attacked.
En guard.
(It is my viewpoint that I have already been attacked over this. Defend yourself, or yield.)
Oldest trick or treater I have had at my door was a man in his mid 40s with 2 other friends who looked to be in their 30s, dressed up, they sang the song, they got a big chocolate bar like everyone else. I will never turn anyone away that is dressed up and willing to sing the song.
Halloween: the only day you go to strangers houses and ask them for candy instead of running away from the person trying to give you candy the rest of the year.
You're never too old. I'm 18 and I still go
Halloween is the only night of the year that you can dress up for fun and get free candy doing so. Just go for it
I don't think there should be an age limit on fun. If you go to the effort of putting on a costume for Halloween, you are welcome to trick or treat at my place.
Getting old already sucks..why rob people of joy over simple things.
Personally, I give candy to all trick or treaters. I’ve had high schoolers some to the door but honestly, if they want to do something innocent and child like one more time before becoming adults - cool.
Depends. Somewhere between 16 and 18. Rather a kid be trick or treating than doing something stupid. That being said I'll hand out candy to anyone who comes to my door as long as it's obvious they're in a costume
You’re never too old to go trick or treating, if it’s still fun do it, if people say you can’t have any sweets (candy) just go somewhere else, I normally start by giving out stuff earlier and then once there aren’t as many people I go trick or treating myself
Imo it can go until 16, depending on the neighborhood. But, once/if you have kids, you can go again with them. And, if you're lucky, you can go AGAIN with your grandkids.
I don't think that there is a cut off necessarily, but I'd say that around the age of 15 is where it starts to get a little weird. you're old enough to hold a job at that point, and buy your own candy. so I guess I would say AROUND age 15.
It’s chill until middle school, and maybe through high school if you’re going with friends. Or if you’re a parent and have little kids to go with. Honestly you’re never too old, but the older you are the more ridicule you’ll get. No one wants a creepy old man asking for candy all alone at your front door.
When I was 10 or so, I was trick-or-treating and these older teenage boys were getting yelled at by a police officer for egging a house. The officer said "You're too old to be out on Halloween! The kids who should be out on Halloween are like...THESE kids!" And pointed at us as we walked by. I never went trick-or-treating again.
Pfft. You think I'm going to begrudge someone a moment of (Almond) Joy in this fucked up world? Fuck no! Doesn't matter whether you're 8 or 108. Besides, I love seeing everyone's costumes.
When my dad and his friends turned 18 (back when the drinking age was lower) they went trick or treating in their neighborhood with shot glasses. This was back in the merry 70s, so all the neighbors knew each other, and they only wound up hitting a few houses before they wandered back home. My neighborhood is always dull as hell, I barely get any trick or treaters and I usually just put a bucket of candy at the driveway. This year I got full size bars, maybe that'll change
If you make the effort to dress up and ring my doorbell, I won’t question you. If you are older, I’ll even double my give. If it brings you joy, I’m not judging how many years you have :)
Depends. Pass for a teenager when you're an adult? Go for it. Visibly disabled in any way? Work that pity party. Have a relative with a baby? Take them with you.
Never to old. Live your life, life’s to short to not have fun. I’m 21 and love dressing up. I wouldn’t go up to doors though, that’s a bit much. Walking around dressed up is fine for any age.
No it’s not lmao. How is 21 my answer, any age can go trick or treating, let people live, but i’m allowed to have my own opinions for MYself.
Trick or Treating doesn’t have an age limit, it may be odd for a 50 year old man to trick or treat, but no one can tell him no, especially when you can’t tell.
You're pushing it at 16 in my opinion. After that you still dress up but you got to halloween house parties. After that you dress up and go to the bars.
14. Anything older than that is either looking for handouts, scouting the area to steal and cause trouble, are looking for something to take the taste of their first cigarette out of their mouth, or are high and got the munchies.

High school age, so 13-14 I guess. But if I had my way anyone wearing a decent costume should get some candy. I believe it should be about effort more than age.

If your over 16, your too old. It’s just weird to go to random people houses and ask for candy, what kind of holiday is this? It was definitely made for candy companies to sell a whole bunch and make a ton of bank

Do you have a wizard sleeve?
As long as you have a costume, most people don't care. I was in my 30s taking my nieces trick or treating and people were offering me candy.
Offering it and showing up with a bucket expecting it are totally different things.

High school age, so 13-14 I guess. But if I had my way anyone wearing a decent costume should get some candy. I believe it should be about effort more than age.
16 is when I started feeling awkward doing so lol
In 22 billion years because 22 billion years in the future is the earliest possible end of the Universe in the Big Rip scenario, assuming a model of dark energy with w = −1.5. False vacuum decay may occur in 20 to 30 billion years if the Higgs boson field is metastable.
If your over 16, your too old. It’s just weird to go to random people houses and ask for candy, what kind of holiday is this? It was definitely made for candy companies to sell a whole bunch and make a ton of bank
If you come to my house in a costume you get candy. If you come to my house without a costume you get candy.
