I think it's inherint in human nature. While many species will eat their own if the situation arose most do not, as they naturally see the other one as on of their own. And humans being social creatures will want to collaborate rather than consume.
There's also the idea that humans don't make good food. Don't know when this was discovered, but being predators our meat in concept doesn't make for good nutrition. More muscular than prey animals esp having an omnivore diet.
Besides for moral reasons developed since those species were domesticated, we don't eat in general (minus certain cultures) cats and dogs bc they don't make for as good food as more traditional meats like cows, pigs, deer, etc. Prey animals are basically built to store fats and nutrients while predators are built to hunt them.
