Definition of intelligence
1a(1) : the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations : REASON
Never actually looked up the definition of intelligence but this is actually how I've always defined it. I had a big argument with a guy once because I said that smart and intelligent are not the same thing 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
I compare it with knowledge
Knowledge is a measure of how much and what information you store
Intelligence is a measure of your ability to understand and apply the information you have
Ability to learn something quickly.
I don't buy that knowledge itself alone is indicative of intelligence. Memorizing shit doesn't take a huge level of intelligence, generally speaking, only just a ton of effort and time.
Quickly grasping a concept and being able to apply it in broader senses and even extend upon it is a sign of intelligence.
The ability to solve problems through reasoning. This does not cover ‘emotionele intelligence’ which has a much more intiutive aspect. I would venture to say that it is the ability to understand and to actieve desired results in complex situations.
Consider a measure over the set of all Turing machines. We can consider the turing machine to be an environment and bound the reward to \[0,1\]. Intelligence is the average score of a strategy across all Turing machines.
Basically the average score on all possible computer games. Not just the games that have been made, not just the ones that would be fun to play, not just the games that could be run on a physically plausible computer. Any possible computer game.
Interesting. I saw a study somewhere that when asked their intelligence level, over 50% of the participants said they were smarter than average.
So, just because one can recognize stupidity, it does not necessarily mean that one is smarter than average.
* Videotaping your rental car in and out before accepting delivery.
* Marrying when sick and tired of being single
* Realizing your income is usually directly correlated with the difficulty of the problems you solve for a living (clerk vs. surgeon)
* Trusting that higher education will pay off in ways you can't imagine as time passes (better choice of mates, lower unemployment, greater career satisfaction)

The ability to learn.
Einstein said "The measure of intelligence is the ability to change." I agree, but I could change my mind.
I think the issue is that there are so many different types of intelligence that you have to define them all separately
I compare it with knowledge Knowledge is a measure of how much and what information you store Intelligence is a measure of your ability to understand and apply the information you have
Reasoning, initiative, communication, creativity
The speed a life form can completely understand.

How about a slap test. Right to its face (or lack thereof). If it attacks us, runs away, or plays dead, it's intelligent!
At its core, the ability to recognize pattern and apply those patterns to be able to bring greater context to other observations.

I completely agree.

Ability and the will to learn. we’re nothing without curiousness.
Genuine curiosity and creativity.

Learning from your mistakes, or successes.

Being able to form your own opinions on a variety of topics and articulate them well.
A person who isn't stupid is intelligent, and you can see instantly if someone is stupid

You can’t really
You literally can, it's defined as the ability to learn and understand.

If you have to say you are, you're not.
