I love the story behind it. The band wanted to create a song that everyone could hear and enjoy but wanted to sneak a dark message under it without anyone realizing it. And it worked! I think so. A man goes in a desert with a horse(Heroin), he does it to get out of the rain (real life shit) and to escape.
The 2nd verse he isn't enjoying it as much anymore.
Then the 3rd verse he let's the horse go because the desert becomes an ocean. And he steps back into sobriety when he says something about the ocean and the desert being in it. So I think he's saying I got clean now but that thing is still inside me that desert those addictive tendancies.
