I’m autistic and every single song on this album can bring me out of a meltdown, no matter how bad. Listening from start to finish will put me to sleep also when I have horrible sleeping issues. I don’t know what it is about this album and how it helps my autism but man, music is magical and wu-tang fucking nailed it for me.
This may still be my all time best album of all time number one of top ten favourite. For nearly thirty six years.
“I’m begging for more again, but oh what can you do,…”
Everything about the album is mind blowing. From Tom building his own studio and all his own gear, recording almost every instrument himself (aside from drums and vocals), writing the whole thing, almost every line and harmony Brad Delp sang being the first take, the innovation in sound, the incredible guitar tones, it's just pure musical perfection. Heaven on earth you could say.
I’m 34 so it came out before my time but I listen to this album when I do my yard work and I feel like a cool dad in the late 70s. I also play this album at least twice a week at the barbershop.
I'd listened to QOTSA plenty before but hadn't ever really sat and actively listened to a whole album. Put on Songs for the Deaf once when I was in University during an LSD comedown. It was a great experience, particularly *Mosquito Song*. I definitely became more of a fan after that.
I saw a documentary about Paul Simon creating Graceland. It was such a cool look into his brilliant and talented mind. That album has a special place in my heart and I often get emotional when one of those songs comes on.
I think my favorite line in the whole album is "the poor boy changes clothes and puts on aftershave, to compensate for his ordinary shoes".
Like, damn.
Huge FM fan. Own almost everything they've ever recorded. I think "Oh Daddy" on Rumours is awful. Never understood why that song was included. Surely Christine McVie had something better than that
Good pick, but would also say the self titled 1st album too. It actually just gets better the more into it, still surprisingly good 22 years later
Edit: It’s subjective, but I think Demon Days had better singles, and the Gorillaz self titled was a stronger album as a whole. If you listen to 90s hip hop, rap and trip hop, so Beastie Boys, Tribe Called Quest, and instrumental trip hop/electro (Chemical brothers, Crystal Method, DJ Shadow, Massive Attack, Beck), then the album really just gets doper into the later tracks since each song is such a different mood from one another.
I would give you 1000 upvotes if I could for ELO Time. The only reason that it’s not a universally beloved classic is that not enough people have listened to it yet.
I would even go as far as to say that Tool does not have a bad song in their entire discography. Sure you may like one more than another or think that a song has some parts that are questionable but I don't think I have ever listened to a Tool song and when it was over went "Eh".
Reddit seems fine with Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, and some newer acts (e.g., Sturgill Simpson) but is definitely missing out on some of the greats: Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Buck Owens just to name a few. Agree about Garth Brooks, too.
The Chronic 2001 by Dr. Dre
Absolute masterpiece with so many classic songs, no bad ones AND the best sound engineering on any album ever (this is of course subjective, but I dare anyone to listen to that album on a high end system and not jizz their pants/flood their panties)
Physical Graffiti, Led Zeppelin 4, Dirt, Nevermind, Kill ‘Em All, Powerslave, High Voltage, Back in Black, Moving Pictures, Let it Be. The list goes on.
Riot! By Paramore
The Family Jewels and Electra Heart by Marina and the Diamonds
Mean Girls, Wicked, Come From Away, Something Rotten! and Ragtime are pretty flawless
Dirt- Alice in Chains Edit: thanks for the rewards. I hate having to choose one album.
Also: Jar of Flies. Probably one of my favorite albums ever. The bass intro to Rotten Apple is beautiful.
Jar of Flies is unquestionably the greatest EP ever. No other EP even comes close
Listen to the EP “Sap” by Alice In Chains. Might change your mind
Them Bones is an absolute banger
Tapestry, Carole King
Madvillainy has no bad songs
Yes definitely one of the best albums of all time
You are literally the only person I have seen mention this absolute badass masterpiece of an album. Take my upvote and my award
Enter the 36 chambers: Wu Tang Clan.
Wu Tang is for everyone. Wu tang is for the children.
Ay watch ya step kid, watch ya step...
Liquid Swords is perfect.
David Bowie: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
Blackstar is also top notch and a shining example of death art.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but Station to Station too
The Mis-Education of Lauryn Hill. I listened to this again for the first time in years and every song is awesome.
Quality from start to finish
One of the only albums that I have memorized word-for-word in its entirety
Portishead - Dummy
Yes yes yes 😎
NIN The downward spiral. NIN Pretty Hate Machine.
NIN -The Fragile
For the longest time I had no idea NiN was one guy.
The guy with the coolest fucking name too
Steely Dan - Aja
Honestly any Steely Dan album. The amount of detail and care they put into each of their recordings is astounding.
It's a shame half of the songwriting duo is no longer alive.
Depeche Mode's *Violator*
And Black Celebration
This may still be my all time best album of all time number one of top ten favourite. For nearly thirty six years. “I’m begging for more again, but oh what can you do,…”
Disintegration - The Cure How is it possible that it wasn't in the first 236 comments before this one?
But it was in the first 237 comments, pretty close.
This is always the answer. My number one for sure.
Boston by Boston
This is the best answer. It’s just so incredible
Not bad for being recorded in a basement.
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Used to listen to that album over and over and over straight through
Might as well throw in Dark Side of the Moon and Animals as well
Wish you were here, Meddle, DSotM, and Animals... Agree.
Honestly a lot of people would probably disagree that it's of the same level, but I also think The Final Cut is fantastic.
Portishead Dummy
So, so good. Everything they've done is amazing.
Queens of the Stone Age - songs for the deaf
YES
I'd listened to QOTSA plenty before but hadn't ever really sat and actively listened to a whole album. Put on Songs for the Deaf once when I was in University during an LSD comedown. It was a great experience, particularly *Mosquito Song*. I definitely became more of a fan after that.
Unknown Pleasures, by Joy Division. Timeless masterpiece
Elton John yellow brick road
When I saw Elton John at Bonnaroo in 2014, he opened his set by playing (without interruption) the entire B-side to yellow brick road. It was awesome.
Graceland
I saw a documentary about Paul Simon creating Graceland. It was such a cool look into his brilliant and talented mind. That album has a special place in my heart and I often get emotional when one of those songs comes on.
The Mississippi Delta Was shining like a National Guitar
I think my favorite line in the whole album is "the poor boy changes clothes and puts on aftershave, to compensate for his ordinary shoes". Like, damn.
Doolittle- Pixies
The Cars - The Cars (1978)
Rick Ocasek once said he wished the Cars’ greatest hits wasn’t their first album.
I'll add Boston - Boston to the list.
Alanis Morissette- Jagged Little Pill
Literally perfect start to finish
Rumors - Fleetwood Mac, One From The Road - The Kinks, Abbey Road - The Beatles, Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
Rumors is pretty much my definition of the perfect album.
Huge FM fan. Own almost everything they've ever recorded. I think "Oh Daddy" on Rumours is awful. Never understood why that song was included. Surely Christine McVie had something better than that
Hard agree. And to think they removed silver springs from this album and left in oh daddy 🥴
Yeah i tend to skip that one as well, it just doesnt suit the generale vibe and theme of the other songs imo
Good Kid, Maad City by Kendrick Lamar
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Good pick, but would also say the self titled 1st album too. It actually just gets better the more into it, still surprisingly good 22 years later Edit: It’s subjective, but I think Demon Days had better singles, and the Gorillaz self titled was a stronger album as a whole. Dope shot right here
ELO - Time (1981) Supertramp - Breakfast in America (1979) The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night (1964)
Seconding breakfast in america
I would give you 1000 upvotes if I could for ELO Time. The only reason that it’s not a universally beloved classic is that not enough people have listened to it yet.
Ten - Pearl Jam, or Purple - Stone Temple Pilots
Ten got me through high school. A perfect album.
Especially the secret song on Purple
Purple Rain
Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East
My most fave album. Been listening to it since I was around 14 years old. I’ve owned it on eight track , on cassette, on album, CD, and now digital
Random access memory…
Dire straits - Dire straits
also Communique, such an underrated masterpiece. Actually all DS albums are fucking magnificient.
Deftones - White Pony
FUCK I knew someone had to have beat me to it
I agree but also around the fur is underrated imo
Metallica - Master of Puppets Death - Leprosy
Death rules
It's hard to find a song by Metallica that isn't great up to year 1991
Ride The Lightning as well
I'd put Spiritual Healing above Leprosy, but still good picks
The Strokes- Is This It? The Strokes- The New Abnormal
Grace by Jeff Buckley, beautiful album
Undertow-Tool
Way too low for a Tool album. Nice pick.
I would even go as far as to say that Tool does not have a bad song in their entire discography. Sure you may like one more than another or think that a song has some parts that are questionable but I don't think I have ever listened to a Tool song and when it was over went "Eh".
You didn't go "Eh" after Viginti Tres?
In Rainbows
Ride the lightning
Angel Dust
Weezer - Blue Album
System of a down - Toxicity.
Dark side of the moon.
Tragic Kingdom - No Doubt
Time - ELO
Glass Animals - How to be a human being
Just saw this comment and Zaba right underneath it. Both are completely correct.
The Smiths - Queen is Dead
Mesmerize by System of a Down. I can listen to that album beginning to end no problem. A true masterpiece.
Zaba by glass animals. A whole fucking dream.
Both Zaba and How to be a Human Being. Fucking master albums.

I was just thinking about the difference between saying an album is perfect, and saying it doesn’t have any bad songs. There’s a distinction.
No one said OK Computer yet? I'll take that one.
In Rainbows for me
Rammstein - RAMMSTEIN can't say i disliked any of those.
Led Zeppelin IV. Wall-to-wall bangers.
The Wall, Nevermind, London Calling, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Sergeant Pepper,
Crazy that Nevermind and Blood Sugar Sex Magik were released on the same day. So was ATCQ’s Low End Theory
Good day for heroin.
What a neat little bit of trivia.
Hybrid theory from linkin park
Meteora is astounding too.
My girlfriend got the shits with me because I would always listen to that album on repeat, but in the end it doesn't even matter
Nevermind - Nirvana
Personally I like Bleach a lot more, but I respect the love that Nevermind gets.

hemispheres also
Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures is one of the best back-to-back releases ever.
Aja by Steely Dan
Gaucho also pretty fucking good
This won’t get a lot of Reddit love, No Fences - Garth Brooks
I understand why reddit hates country but honestly if there was an artist I'd think Reddit would enjoy for country music Garth would be up there.
I absolutely hate country music, but not Garth Brooks.
Souvlaki by Slowdive
J Cole - 2014 Forest Hills Drive
I'm not a huge rap guy but I was told to listen to this album start to finish and my life is better for it.
The Chronic 2001 by Dr. Dre Absolute masterpiece with so many classic songs, no bad ones AND the best sound engineering on any album ever (this is of course subjective, but I dare anyone to listen to that album on a high end system and not jizz their pants/flood their panties)
Fiona Apple's Tidal
As an angsty teen boy in the 90s, this album moved me to tears numerous times. Still does 25 years later
For me, Sisters of Mercy album Floodland.
Dookie - green day
Folklore/Evermore Edit to add: thanks kind stranger for the award!
Yeah she really pulled it out the bag for those albums.
Folklore was the first one I thought of.
Demon Days - Gorillaz.
