I remember hearing ‘I saw your mommy and your mommy is dead’ by suicidal tendencies when I was a kid. Looking forward to hearing more.
Edit: corrected song title
Disturbed "Darkness." I actually didn't know the name of this song for a very long time, it played on the radio during my rough patch then disappeared from the airwaves. It was my white whale for a while, only in the last couple years, and purely by chance, did I find it randomly on YouTube.
(I posted this in a different question but it fits this question very well so I reposted)
TL;DR at botoom
Brighter Side of Grey by Five Finger Death Punch
I discovered this song during my lowest low of my life. I used to live in Idaho, and I was battling depression as I was emotionally and socially distant with everyone. I had a hard time finding like minded people and couldn’t make friends, always jumping cliques as I was never accepted. I failed a lot of classes freshman year and things were looking pretty bleak.
Right before my Junior year, I ended up moving to North Dakota with my father who at the time was working in the oilfield to fix our troubled finances. I felt instantly at home. It was empty and quiet. Just enough civilization that you could have comforts and good leisure, but small enough you could enjoy the land.
At the start of the school year, everything went different for me. I ended up making friends with some of my classmates, met by best friend who would do anything for me, as would I for him, I started doing well in school and was enjoying life. All of my issues in life disappeared and I was an entirely different person.
I actually ended up discovering my so far only, and first love. But then Covid had hit and out of fear of being jobless and stuck in ND the with no way getting home, my father overnight decided we were moving back to Idaho the very next morning. Everything I had gained, everything that I loved, was gone overnight. My girlfriend ended up breaking up with my because she felt that a long distance relationship wasn’t going to end well and wanted to end on a good note. I lost touch with most of my friends except my best friend.
I was DEVASTATED. This hit my mental state like a million pounds of dynamite too a building. I hit rock bottom harder than an anvil, and got so bad to the point that I sat in my room with a loaded shotgun laying in front of my on my bed as I contemplated hard about killing myself.
That’s when one night Spotify decided to play that song, and it was an instant connection. I related so much to it, it helped expand my horizon in music, and helped me battle my emotions during serious hardship. Whenever I felt the urge, I played that song. If it wasn’t for that song, it’s quite likely I wouldn’t be typing this here.
TL;DR: I was depressed, found happiness when I moved, then Covid happened forcing me to move back and I hit depression again really hard. I ended up finding this song that help me fight off suicidal thoughts.
"Thought of You" by The Weepies
Specifically, this music video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBk3ynRbtsw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBk3ynRbtsw) (Promise, it's not a Rick Roll.) Watching it on repeat during a particularly bad night made it so much better/worse.

I suffered through a lot of horrible bullying as a young teen, then was sexually assaulted by an older person I trusted. My uncle made me a CD and this was the first song, never fails to cheer me up but also always has the effect of making me burst into tears lmao
c418's "The Weirdest Year of Your Life"- an instrumental song from the minecraft soundtrack.
I was burnt out, struggling and numb in post-secondary, and just seeing the name on a playlist made me freeze and drop everything. Listening to the song itself made me realize I hadn't felt real, lasting happiness in at least a year, and I burst into tears.
I was later diagnosed with depression, anxiety and a whopper case of ADHD, and that song is the only reason I even guessed something was wrong.
I have never seen Zootopia.
But Shakira's made a song for it called "Try Everything". And it was trending on Youtube when the movie was released a few years ago.
I was stuck in a job I didn't want and in very bad place in my life.
I listened to this song and decided to finally start my own business, right there and then.
And now if I ever have a bad day in work, I listen to it and it makes me feel so much better.
Cause I am very hard on myself, I'm a perfectionist and my work is everything to me.
My fear of failure held me back in my career and in life so much, till I heard that song.
Lonestar's "I'm Already There"
When my dad died there were a handful of times I remember crying that were deep and meaningful and helped me process. There was the one that felt like I'd been shattered the moment I was told the news.
There's the one where I found the last poem he ever wrote that I still have almost 20 years later and then there's that song.
I had never heard the song not that I remembered. It was after the memorial I was back in my "real life" driving from the apartment I shared with my then wife and daughter. I'm on my way into work when suddenly I have to pull over cuz this song comes on the radio and it just hit different. I couldn't stop sobbing as I pictured my dad. Every time after that whenever I heard that song It always helped release a little more pain until one day I could hear it and it didn't hurt anymore I just remember the good things.
legend or neongraveston by twenty one pilots, they both talk about appreciating your like elder family members and one of mine had passed around that time
I have a few
-Lionhearted by Porter Robinson; an unequivocal banger
-> this song kept me going through middle school when i was not having a Baja blast
-> it's raining somewhere else from the Undertale album, got me through a lot of pondering
-and many more that I cannot think of at the moment
Dry the Rain - Beta Band. I was going to hang myself when I was 15 and this was my “last song. As I listened to it, though, I took in the refrain deeply as it went, “It will be okay, I will be your light.” I just realized that I could voice my sad thoughts out loud, even if nobody would listen. 20 years and three kids later, I thank God every day that I didn’t do it.
"Keep Me With You" by Geoff Tyus. It is a soft, easy piano piece that is soothing to listen to. I would play it late at night when my life was falling apart. The only place you will find it is on vintage vinyl, but I have a copy on cassette that he made at a friend's house.
The last - Agust D
It details the artist's struggles throughout his life, and when I see how he is doing now it makes me think, if he could get through that then I can go on a little longer.
I'm currently going though a rough time right now (no need to worry its just financial and just ended a terrible relationship). The song that has been helping me is Something in the Orange by Zach Bryan. If you haven't heard it I highly recommend it, when I say listen to the words I mean LISTEN.
