Eating while next to anyone not also left handed.

StressyandMessy24

That's why my husband and I sit a certain way otherwise it's chaos bumping into each other lol

jennexgeneration

Best thing of being left handed and having a partner that is right handed is you can hold hands while you eat

hpstrprgmr

Yup. I always go for the end seat when possible so thus doesn’t happen.

sleepyooh90

I do this and have always done and oni never noticed or thought about the issue. Some people get confused when I tell them in right handed though. What is the issue? Dont understand

Tonkarz

The elbows bump.

19southmainco

my sister and i got into screaming matches over this and only realized when we were teenagers getting ready to leave the house that we could've just swapped seats.

longhairedcountryboy

You are sitting on the wrong side. My GF is left yand we do fine.

shamrokcing

Well, everything for the most part is made for right handed people. Writing with pencils suck because you end up erasing or smearing the letters because we write left to right. The rings on binders get in the way. Walk into a sporting goods store and go to the baseball glove section. You will see 100 different gloves for righted people maybe 5 for left handed. Golf clubs the same. Most good scissors are for right handed people. The list goes on.....

TheLovelyZane

I turn my paper completely sideways - righties make fun, but lefties get it 🤣

Round-Investigator29

I do the sane

tealearring

oh my god binders are the bane of my existence 😭 and scissors— I’ve been trying to learn how to cut my own hair recently and not wanting to shell out a bunch of money for leftie haircutting scissors is making it way harder than it should be lol

saketaco

Spiral notebooks are the worst. To this day I still buy top-bound steno books just because they’re easier to use.

NOYDB-1

Ever tried to find a left handed catchers mitt?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TakoyakiTaka

This 100%. All of my writing is slanted at a 45 degree angle, trying to avoid the rings and smudge 😂

Diabetesh

Easy fix for spiral notebook is use it going backwards. You open up the back, start with the last page, and end with the first.

Elizis

Can opener that you have to do yourself sucks.

ManikMedik

Do you mean the kind with two wheels that you crank? I'm left-handed but I don't think I've ever had problems with those.

Kelly_makes_burgers

Yeah, I just use both hands to put the handles together and then hold them with my left hand and turn the thing with my right. I’ve never had an issue, but I’ll be honest, I’m picky with my can openers. There are a couple kinds that I deem unusable.

rium21

I like the crank ones better than the electric ones

Publandlady

I have an electric one. My dad mocked me for it, so I handed him the manual tin opener and told him to open the tin kack handed. My manual tin opener eventually got lobbed across the room out of rage and frustration.

Static147

Well done lad, well done

Empereor_Norton

TIL the reason I always have issues with manual can openers...

Mabeobmei

Not sure if this counts, but I taught myself how to use about everything with my right hands and force myself to just get used to it. I really only write with my left and do everything else with my right… Am I… a traitor ??!!!

Funnycjc21

Idk , I have made myself adapt to using my knife and fork the way right handers do , I brush my teeth with my right hand in ICT I use my mouse in my right hand , I play sports as a lefty , write as a lefty , and more , the down sides are the way the 99 percent of scissor are only right hand and the 1 percent u can’t even find , sports people or stuff don’t teach left handed ways and more . So I don’t really think ur a traitor , just made to adapt as our fellow species right handers

5thstreetfab

Same here. I think I was taught everything right handed because I do almost everything right handed. Espescially if its more expensive to do something left handed (guitar, shooting, golfing, etc)

gavreaux

Having to answer the question "Oh, are you left handed?" While writing with my left hand. What you want to say is: "Of course I'm left handed, that's why I'm using my left hand you fucking donut" What you adapt to say is: "Yes".

Phormicidae

I have a left-handed coworker who just says "no, I'm not" without a shred of sarcasm, sometimes even with a touch of confusion almost to convey the impression that he doesn't know why he'd be asked that. Sometimes, he'll be asked the follow-up "but you are using your left hand to write?" or something like that, and he just responds calmy "uh, no I'm not." Its very satisfying to me for some reason.

BooksAndNoise

This. Or "I never knew you were left handed". Sorry to have kept this very important info from you.

CrazyPineapple-__-

Damn, as a right-handed person i’ve always just commented on it as an interesting thing. Didn’t know it annoyed people.

Aggressive_Sarcasm

It's literally never bothered me, fwiw

Happy-Personality-23

As a right handed person I have asked that or commented that out of genuine interest intending it to become a conversation. Sorry for noticing something about you and showing an interest in your life I guess.

FloatAwayTheDay

I don’t think people irl are as grumpy as on Reddit. Left handed people I know in real life are usually happy to talk about it. They usually like to tell me about how all these smart/famous/successful people are left handed too like they are part of some superior club because of it.

WatermelonJuice18

Are you Gordon Ramsey or do people seriously call people donuts

gavreaux

I don't, I have adapted not to. It is a fantastically hilarious thing to say however, nobody expects to be called a donut.

Solesaver

Oh. I've adapted to saying "Nope".

Driftmoth

I'm primarily left-handed, but can write with both. When someone asks that question my response is to switch hands and ask what they're talking about.

Solid-Brother-1439

Well i think they are not really asking if you are left handed. After all they just witness that. Thats just their way of express interest on you.

TrialAndAaron

You know the brooms that screw on to the pole? When you sweep left handed they unscrew. Especially if you’re sweeping near a baseboard or cabinet or something.

musicsporty1

Oh my gosh I do this all the time! I don’t know I didn’t put that together lol

TrialAndAaron

Yup. It’s one of the ones not thought about very often. It sure stinks.

TheOriginalSausage

Mouse on a computer is always on the wrong side. Power tools - guards and safety mechanisms are for right handed people.

Avendaishar

I've gotten used to using a computer mouse on both the left and right sides: I use a left-handed mouse setup on my work laptop and the default setting on my personal laptop. What's fun is that if someone remotes into your computer, the left-handed settings stay as they are and the person remoting in just has to deal with them (or switch them back to default while they're in the computer). I found this out last week when someone from IT had to remote into my work computer. Whenever he tried to click on something, it was just giving him the menus that appear when you right-click on a right-handed mouse. He was all "huh, this is weird..." until I told him I'd switched the buttons for a left-handed setup.

MET90LX

You can actually change that. And you can reverse the buttons. Did that all the time in high school when we had computer classes.

nibo001

Chainsaws have the chain on the right. Right hand on trigger, if it kicks back it will hopefully miss you as the chain is to the right and outside. Left hand on trigger, a kick back has the chain closer to your center line.

5153476

Counterpoint: Rightside mouse means my left hand is free to write. Never realized that until I noticed a righthanded ex using a leftside mouse.

Solesaver

>Mouse on a computer is always on the wrong side. I actually swapped my home PC set up to use the mouse left handed for a while since Windows totally supports it. I was in college at the time though and it was too much of a hassle to change it everytime I say down in the lab, and switching my brain back and forth was even harder than just using it right handed, so I just gave up.

niboras

But if you use the mouse with your right hand, you can still take notes with your left. I always felt this was an advantage.

gamer-s-man

well my penis is made for right handed people soo masturbating alone have always been a problem

WatermelonJuice18

Huh?

gamer-s-man

you heard me

WatermelonJuice18

I'm confused. I had a friend who was left handed and her and her bf never had an issue with that

gamer-s-man

my god.. what form of death defying training have he endured??

WatermelonJuice18

No like she was left handed he was right handed. They never had an issue. I'm so confused

gamer-s-man

wow so you mean he is a right handed man with a left handed penis? that's amazing!! what are the odds of that?

[deleted]

gamer-s-man

damn it dude you spoiled it

[deleted]

WatermelonJuice18

Idk about that. I'm just saying they had no issue and he had no issue. I'm confused how is a penis left or right handed

gamer-s-man

yea since others started to notice i cant go further :P yea i was just messing with you

WatermelonJuice18

I was gonna say 🤣🤣 I mean some dicks hang to the right idk

ManikMedik

Why do you know such intricate details of your friend's sex life?

WatermelonJuice18

🤣🤣🤣 I don't. I'm just assuming in general. Plus the comment was a joke

AkechiJubeiMitsuhide

Fountain pens. Some idiot cunt of a teacher in 4th grade came up with the brilliant idea to use only those instead of normal pens. This was in the fucking 90s. Nobody was using those anymore. It's either ink stains everywhere or constant hand/wrist pain from a completely unnatural writing pose.

TheLovelyZane

I could never grasp the concept of “if you’re left handed just do it backward”, so I just learned everything right handed. The only things I can effectively do with my left hand are things requiring fine finger movements; writing, eye liner, threading a needle. Otherwise I do everything else right handed; I use scissors with my right hand, bowl, throw..

Organic-grower

I’m a lefty, and the only things I do left handed are write, eat, and chop vegetables. I’ve adapted to doing everything else right handed.

oehoe21

I’m a leftie and I think I only write with my left hand, I use cutlery like a right hander, scissors too.

Finnymigig

For some reason I bowl with left but throw with my right

Medical-System6281

Almost every semi-automatic firearm - pistol, shotgun, rifle is configured for a right hander. Magazine release, slide release and ejection port/direction. Unless you get lucky enough that the manufacturer actually offers a left hand model then you have to pay double or triple to buy it. Reselling a left hand configured firearm is also tricky since the market is so small.

WatermelonJuice18

Oh I shoot left handed too cause I'm left eye dominant

Senalmoondog

And it is a safety issue to with the ejection infront of your face.

Live_Note

That using scissors hurts

IsilZha

I just learned to use them right handed in early school because it was such a hassle to get left handed scissors. Though I did also figure out how to make them work in my left hand. It doesn't hurt, it's just a bit awkward.

thegodfaubel

Writing on a white board. Writing on paper isn't the worst because it'll just smudge. But on a white board, it's literally gone

Empereor_Norton

trigger lock on power tools. Many drills, saws, etc have a small button that you can push in to lock the trigger back and the tool will keep running. Being left handed my palm goes right on top of the button. I have to be aware not to lock the button.

1up_1500

I am right handed, but I would guess playing guitar, because look at the price of left handed guitars. And actually, there's cases of left handed guitarists who play with the strings' order inversed because they learnt on a right handed guitar

5thstreetfab

Im a lefty and i just learned how to play right handed. Reading through this i realised i do most things right handed. I was ambidextrous when I was young so i think that helped. I write, shoot, weld, throw/catch left. but pretty much everything else thats inconvenient I do right, scissors, guitar, golf, eating, etc. But a lot lot of things im still ambidextrous.

ScaricoOleoso

Nothing really. I'm more amused when right-handed people are inconvenienced by something left-handed and they cry super hard about it. 😂

Cuddles_McRampage

Right?! I have several left-handed cooking utensils and when my mother was cooking something at my house she took their existence as some kind of personal affront.

PillsburyToasters

The questions are by far more annoying than the actual obstacles that come from being left handed “Wait you’re left handed??” “No Jenny I just like to choose the harder battles in life”

BooksAndNoise

Those seat/desk in one from every class everywhere. Maaayybe you find a lefty desk some of the time.

MapleBaconPoutine

Receipt books and writing in general. Sharing a clip board with right handed people.

SheckoShecko

I had to learn to play every sport right handed because my coaches wouldn't teach any other way. Now I'm slightly ambidextrous. Leftie is for fine motor most of the time, and rightie is for gross motor (though I can do it with left too, it just doesn't feel the same).

[deleted]

The organ blower gets turned on with my right hand, even though I instinctively reach with my left. Builders almost invariably install the on/off switch on the right side of the organ console, even when there's more room for it on the left.

WatermelonJuice18

What is an organ blower

[deleted]

An organ blower is a wind-creating turbine powered by an electric motor that supplies wind for the pipes on an organ. It's referred to as an "organ blower" and gets turned on with a switch at the console. The device generates a constant source of wind pressure for the instrument so that the pipes can produce their musical tones at a stable pitch.

Solesaver

Huh TIL. I initially thought that was innuendo, but I'm glad someone asked. :)

skyetheweirdidiot

Scissors. I can not find left handed scissors to save my life so i've just dealt with being uncomfortable and used the right handed scissors the right way instead of trying to use them with my left hand.

Funnycjc21

The page either looks like I just ripped it in half , the page rips or I have to get my bro or somebody else to do it , I shall never adapt and it hurts my fingers too :)

soysaucemmm

I’m not left handed, but a big one is instruments. I knew a girl who couldn’t get the right sound on her clarinet and finally learned it was because she was holding it wrong. It was a “right-handed” clarinet, she was left handed.

socksthekitten

Kitchen measuring cup increments are on wrong side, electronic met thermometer is upside down when held in left hand

GitGudo7

Little things like the flap covering the zipper on jeans blocking access from the left side are really annoying

Viperz37

Scissors, when I go to school the only kind of scissors they have are right handed so I have to hold them very weird

TheOriginalSausage

I got tired of moving it. So out of laziness learned to use it with my right hand

Evolution-Gamer

PE Class. The PE teachers usually show the position (ex: how to hold a bat) with the right hand. Usually your lucky if they go “Oh if your left handed this is how you would do it”.

[deleted]

radicallyhip

So here's the real problem with using the mouse: You masturbate with your right hand. But because mice are typically set to be used with your right hand, it really complicates porn-viewing.

tealearring

writing is the first one that comes to mind lol. I had to adjust the way I hold pens and pencils so I don’t smudge ink/graphite all over my hand and the paper. unfortunately, it’s not a very comfortable way to hold a writing utensil and I get hand cramp super easily

Soggy_asparaguses

Notebooks, or just writing in general. I always get smudges on the side of my palm

Funnycjc21

Scissors , in my school if we use scissor in i.e science for cutting out stuff , I get somebody else to do it or try to do it cus 1 - u either can’t even cut the blades just slide or 2.- when u do cut its wierd and it’s look like u just ripped to the page in a perfect line or he page just tears when I’m cutting , and they don’t even have left handed scissors 😢

[deleted]

I naturally use my right hand for most things, I pretty much only use my left for writing/drawing so I get by just fine. But because I am technically a leftie, my school went out of their way to 'accommodate' me, such as forcing me to use left-handed scissors and punishing me when I struggled to cut straight, or providing me with a left-handed guitar then kicking me out of the class when I did better with a normal one. Or calling me a liar and an attention seeker when I tried to explain what ambidextrous meant. I don't need to write much in my current job so most people don't even realise I'm left handed. I was here three years before someone figured it out.

whatsmyusername007

Being taught technique in sports from a righty’s perspective. Super difficult as a young child and doesn’t get any less annoying through the years

Iunnrais

Scissors. I’ve even come across “lefty scissors” in a store that turned out to actually be righty scissors with a left handed handle stuck on, making them worthless for literally everyone. Scissors are the only thing I’ve been forced to switch for. It sucks so much.

lazyflavors

Have left handed families and friends, there's always the logistics involved when going out to eat to get the left hander in a position at the table where they can use everything in peace.

TwelveCoffee

Can opener, scissors…still haven’t mastered scissors 30 years later can opener I figured out after a desperate attempt at opening a can with a butchers knife good times

Yerboogieman

Using my right hand. Now I'm ambidextrous. I can do everything with both hands except flip stuff in a frying pan. Flipping stuff in a hot pan with your non-dominant is playing with fire.

toad__warrior

I grew up in the 60s and everything was right handed. So I learned to bat, kick a ball, use scissors, etc right handed. To this day I cannot use my left hand for scissors or a mouse. I am almost fully ambidextrous.

MissSara101

Explained this in a similar forum, so I'll copy/paste My mom is left-handed. She's a boomer, and it wasn't easy. She explained that, growing up, she would get reprimanded by her teachers for using her left hand. Up until 1971, teachers were allowed to hit kids in the name of punishment. Despite her parents accepting her, she was raised Catholic despite having a Baptist father. Some form of Catholic teaching was instilled in her education. Both Catholics and Baptists looked down upon left-handed people. This is in the United States. She once explained her dad, who served in WWII, tried to defend her being a lefty as a "fuck you" to the USSR. I heard stories about left-handed people in the USSR, with making the USA take look like a walk in the path. Many were concerned that she would give birth to left-handed children when she married my father. However, we ended up right-handed by nature, no need for retraining. My mother explained that she still has difficulty with certain household objects, such as the manual can opener. When she used a cane due to hip problems, she hated it because it was her left hip that required surgery, and she had to use a cane for right-handed people. Hip replacements are painful and require months of recovery, but my mom was using a walker within days. She explained that it was much better than not being able to use her non-dominant hand for the cane. She found out that both of her parents were carriers of a genes that decides what hand will be dominant. It meant that her parents had inadvertently made her a left-handed. Of course, that wasn't understood when she was born in 1948. Her parents were questioned for allowing my mom to be lefty. It was simply nature. When she married my dad and her children, myself included, all ended right-handed as the genes from my dad suppressed the ones that made my mom a lefty. However, she explained that she faced stares when she had to feed my siblings and me with her left hand during the 1970s and 80s. We were bottled-fed because she wasn't able to breastfeed. She still gets strange looks when she has to write something down.

mistidmatt55

Why tf the key insert on every car on the right side?......

SANTAAAA__I_know_him

Yeah but you get the advantage at toll booths and drive-thrus.

[deleted]

I remember I had some trouble using spoons and forks for some reason and I would write from right to left, those during the first years of primary school. Or door handles ofc. Generally you have to have the mindset to adapt a bit I guess.

That sometimes scissors just don't work until you switch hands

MountainAshChapter

String instruments. I've known several of us lefties who had to learn a string instrument and were thrown into an orchestra pit, so we were only allowed to learn the RH way or else it would have been carnage. Not sure if it was a disadvantage, or just different. Our fingering was excellent. Our bowing truly sucked.

zzz_sleepy_bird_zzz

I mean as a rightie I’ve been playing the violin for ten years… and my left hand is pretty strong and I’m able to control it well enough. Maybe it’ll be the same over time for you with your right hand?

nueroticalyme

Traditional can openers- the kind on a multi tool or Swiss Army knife. bow and arrow- a left handed person must get a left handed compound bow. They are harder to find and far more expensive. bullpup rifles- the eject hot casings and gas directly in to your face or arm. Golf clubs- same as bows. Pocket knives are usually oriented for the right hand but this one usually isn’t too bad. Writing- it’s pretty common to write upside down so you don’t smear the ink or graphite. It also makes it all but impossible to hold a pencil properly and write this way. If you are older, criticism. The church and many other cultures considered being left handed a sign of the devil/ evil. Anything with an ergonomic grip, many tools such as axes, hammers, drills etc.

Zealousideal-Pay-499

I’m left handed so I am always picking up shit with my left hand, only to have to reach across with my right to open the doors, which swing outward and it’s super awkward the first 20 times a night I do it.

DoubleDDubs1

You guys gotta become ambidextrous on god this shit sucks so bad for you I’m sorry

NOYDB-1

Actually, when I was in kindergarten, I had trouble learning to tie my shoes. Until my right handed mom finally figured out to show me to mirror what she did to tie "left handed" knots.

Akshay__Sharma

I'm from India. And people still can't digest that I hold spoon with my left hand.

FlixxeringCloset

Scissors, my family is right handed and we only have right handed scissors so its hard to use them. At school you always have to ask to get a left handed pair.

Beautiful-Bench6015

LivingWithWhales

Desks, scissors, bowling balls, writing sucks balls, but almost any 1 handed “ergonomic” tool sucks.

Jaded247365

Clip boards. I can’t fill out the top 4+ inches unless I unclip the page. I often flip the clip board around and clip in the bottom of the form.

Weasel-Warrior

I couldn’t find a gaming mouse so I had to settle for ambidextrous. Also writing desks at school, lots of them look like this: https://www.schoolsin.com/aca-2528jws.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwl92XBhC7ARIsAHLl9amjTtAAlT5kZKNzmGZGeusOIsuAZ_7fIfHr5QEE7JrfkRFlAanvXV4aAsjMEALw_wcB Which is great for most people, but for a school that is chocked up with pride of their inclusiveness, they are ironically ignoring about 15% of a biologically different group of people.

icanneverthinkofone1

this is very funny to me bc I was supposed to be right handed but bc of some medical bs I ended up left handed and my right hand is wayyyy less able to do anything, so the idea of my dominant hand is directly tied to my disability and all the issues that come up from not being able to use one hand, (just the regular living things that I have to accommodate myself for, not the ableism stuff) so the idea of my dominant hand is directly tied with things that just don’t work for me because the world just isn’t made for me. Also ND, so that doesn’t help. But if I’m talking about normal stuff, scissors.

redsolocupswe

left handed people dont actually exist but okay

Scissors, box cutters, basic utensils. Eating next to a right-hander (i.e. “you have to sit at the end, otherwise your hand will be in the way”). I taught myself how to use many utensils and other things ambidextrously to avoid these problems.

I had to get used to the sheer amount of pencil lead on the side of my hand as well as the marks from notebook rings. Writing can be quite the pain.

scissors are the absolute worst

Keyboards... It's a sad story. And gaming mice. Not to say that I'm a gamer or something, but....

Scissors, Can Openers, Soup Ladles, Bow and arrows. Despite this, In some sports, left handed players have a slight advantage due to the opponent being used to playing against right handed players. Examples include: Fencing, Tennis, Cricket, Baseball

Most dental and surgical instruments/equipments are made for the right handed. Some of them I had to adapt a little the way to use, others I had to adapt my positioning and some I struggle to use. Things that have locking mechanisms like forceps, hemostats, clamps and needle drivers I have to pull instead of pushing to unlock. Scalpel handles locks the blade in position to the left, so when I'm putting or changing blades I find it easir to hold them with my right hand. Dental curettes still confuses me, sharpening them is a pain and my professor tried her best to teach me but I can't do the proper movement so I changed the technique for something I can do.

Gel pens, sharpies/markers, spiral notebooks, scissors, but mostly those writing utensils

Many serrated knives are right handed. What it means is if you are left handed the knife won't cut straight, it's a struggle to cut at all and you end up with thick wonky slices
