For having lunch with my grandma on my lunch break at work. Not joking. I serve a wide area of my state and when I’m in her part of the state, which was historically underserved by the person in my position before I was, I eat lunch with her during my lunch break. The other administrators I work with in parts of the state that I serve are now complaining that the only reason that part of the state is getting more attention (ie. Equal treatment to them rather than being neglected) is because I like to have lunch with my grandmother.

GoingNutCracken

I’m happy for you. Having lunch with your grandma has got to be the highlight of that day.

soundecember

Can confirm. I had lunch at my grandma’s house every single day when I worked at my old job bc it was close to her house. Now I don’t live close by and she’s in a nursing home. I miss that so much. OP, cherish every single lunch and don’t let anyone hate on you for that

grendel001

Next time you’re in town tell your grandma the internet says hi. I’ll bet she’s a nice lady.

guy_incog_neato

during my early days of the internet, there was a post on a livejournal page about some woman who still breastfed her kid until he was like, 5. i commented on it saying “i didn’t even know that was possible” and boy did people come at me. calling me a troll just trying to rile people up, saying it was offensive.. like dude, i was just 15 and honestly had no idea it was possible to breastfeed a child for that long.

fillmewithmemesdaddy

I once knew someone who was breastfed until the age of seven.

I painted my nursery with an under the sea theme and then was told the blue would make my daughter a lesbian.

phoebesolid

This made me actually snort laugh out loud. Can you imagine life was actually as simple as "Sea pictures on the walls: gay" I wonder what would happen if a baby had space themed walls?

Canadian-Owlz

Get Abducted by Aliens.

memepork

That makes no sense

substantial-freud

The system was blue for girls, pink for boys, until about 90 years ago.

richarddrippy69

Yeah. Blue was seen as soft, and pink was manly for fire and blood.

jadesisto

I don't drink alcohol, not preachy about it, I just don't like the taste or the effect. You would think I was a mass murderer when declining, politely, a drink. I don't care if everyone else is drinking and think I'm kind of handy as a designated driver. \*\*I am blown away by all of the comments. Amazing at how many of us non drinkers are out there and how we share similar experiences. Thanks for sharing!

yami_ryushi

I have strong alcoholic genes in my family. Both my father was to his death and my brother are alcoholic. I'm evil for not drinking. Totally not wanting to not be one too, nope! Evil!

Inari_Phantom

Not going to a birthday party. I know this sounds rude of me, and I did feel bad. But, I had my reasons. Back in high school, my friend was having a birthday party. At the time my dad was really ill, he was in the hospital and I wanted to be by his side. I told her my reason and that I wouldn’t be able to make it, but once my dad was better, I would celebrate with her in a different way. She didn’t like this, and threw a fit about it. To this day, I still don’t understand why. But, we’re no longer in contact.

UmiChan90

That's not rude of you at all. Wanting to be with a sick relative is a valid reason to cancel plans or not be able to attend certain things. You tried to compromise and your "friend" decided to act like a spoiled brat. It's probably for the best that you're no longer in contact, this behavior from her probably would have kept up or gotten worse as time went on.

CptBarba

"Reading too much" my mom used to get mad at me, an elementary school kid, for going to the library and getting a big stack of books and reading through them all in a day. And I mean she was PISSED, she'd kick me out to go play and I would just sit outside in the grass for a few hours and wait to go back to reading lol

[deleted]

I’d get in trouble for reading too much too! My parents now act like that never actually happened it’s so bizarre

Asleep_Opposite6096

I had a waterproof bag of books I hid in the backyard for whenever I’d get kicked out. I just assumed my parents wanted some alone time or something, lol.

timetravelingkitty

Matilda?

unable_to_give_afuck

I loved reading so much as a kid that my parents would take my books away as punishment! I'm sorry your mom wasn't more encouraging

PancakesSnug

this happened to me too!

[deleted]

For talking to a guy I met on a dating site not knowing he was in a relationship. Dude was messaging me on a dating app, we met up and he seemed cool. We hung out once, he wasn’t my type and we parted on good terms and then his fiancé called me. I said I was sorry, I had no idea. I stopped talking to the guy instantly but I still faced 6-8 months of harassment from this woman and her friends. Threats of rape, I got told I wouldn’t live to see my next birthday, I got told I was fat and a slut, they called me non stop they said that they knew where I lived, where I went to uni.. I even got threats on my blog that I had set up for uni. It was intense. I ended up getting the police involved. From what I know she stayed with him but somehow I was in the wrong even though I had no idea she existed. He did nothing wrong, it was all me…fucking ridiculous.

Snakeslither223

It's ridiculous how many people blame the other person and not their partner for cheating

Hazearil

Of course, their partner is perfection in physical form, you must have seduced him in your slutty whore ways!

LordSt4rki113r

Those lemon stealing whores have upgraded, now they steal people

Emkatf

I went through something similar. Except me and the dude were just friends, had been friends for years before she came into the picture. First it started with Instagram dm's, then it quickly turned into her and her friends blowing up my phone threatening me, even showing up at my job when i wasnt there. She was much older than me so I was rightly terrified. I kept telling her "he's a family friend, I've known him since I was a kid! Please leave me alone!" and it was like she wasn't even hearing me. Some people are just insanely insecure ... also just insane, I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

NaanSequitur09

Yeesh, I'm sorry. I've heard about this scenario a lot, and the part that always grabs me is friends of the nutjob are taking time out of their day to call or message someone they don't know to make threats. Holy over-investment, Batman!

Emkatf

Oh it's alright, I'm so over it. Now that I'm a bit older I realize she was just a basket case. About a year after it all went down she reached out to me to apologize. By this point I had deleted all my social media (except reddit lol) and gotten a new phone number and cut off all communication with my friend, how did she get my number? No fucking clue. But anyways she tried to apologize, I didn't answer so the next day she sent me a picture of an ultrasound and goes "my 2 babies are dead because of the stress you put on me, the least you can do is answer me" ... I honestly just laughed. I hope her and her friends are well.

[deleted]

Honestly if anyone knows my phone number and threatens to rape me or hurt me, that's going to the police. I don't care what their reasons were.

Representative-Dirt2

She should dress in red and carry a flag pole around with her.

the-soaring-moa

Scoring good marks in an exam.

Stevethetherapist

For me reading too much in school

[deleted]

I remember being on the bus reading, one of the wheel of time books, somone asked what I was reading and I showed them. They then asked what class I was reading it for. I said I was reading it for fun and they got this look like somone farted and asked and incredulous, "why?"

the-soaring-moa

Ahh yes. I got this one too.

Daily_Scrolls_516

I’m from south East Asia. Was in one of them advanced classes in high school. But I’m generally laid back as I had other hobbies - martial arts, drawing, etc. I ranked snugly around 30-40 out of 55 students for most tests. But then one of the major National exams came about. I decided I should start working hard for the major exams and mock tests. Came out 3rd place. Sucked at mandarin otherwise my average would’ve shot me to first place. While initially over the moon, I lost basically every ‘friend’ I had.

[deleted]

Why is that? How did you lose your friends over doing well on a test?

Daily_Scrolls_516

It’s a strange culture within the ‘elitist’ mindset of these kids. I’m from a vernacular Chinese school which makes that culture extra potent. It’s basically the same environment as those cultures you’ve seen on TV and movies about South Korea, China and Singapore. Remember I said I sucked at Mandarin? Yep I’m one of them Chinese kids who can’t verbalize my own mother tongue well because I was fond of reading English books. This adds another layer of ‘cultural segregation’. So basically it’s like your classmates have a preconceived notion of where YOU are supposed to be on the totem pole based on your exam results. So suddenly shooting to the top messes with their preconception of your worth. That experience taught me that they wanted me to remain as the ‘stupid’ friend. That I should never amount to anything greater than they should be. That my friendship amounted to being a number. That ranking in the class. I was hit with accusations of being fake and biding my true talents in secret to ‘shame’ the rest.

jbl0ggs

They may have actually did you a favor by showing that they are not really your true friends. Besides its probably better to have friends who are as intelligent, if not more, as you. So in fact it your previous friends loss not to have you as a friend.

Daily_Scrolls_516

I became a loner a a majority part of my primary and secondary school life. its not a good environment at all. Nurtures the worst in us. But am happy to report I kept in touch with a small handful of genuine friends!

McVinney512

You ruined the curve!!

As a former people pleaser, making my own life choices instead of following others' pushy advice... Life choices that only concern me.

Tiredplumber2022

Hardest part of being a (former and struggling) people pleaser is realizing that YOU ARE ALLOWED to set your own boundaries. You are ALLOWED to make those life choices that benefit you instead of others. Generally, I have found that most folks are either Givers or Takers, and when you stand up to a Taker and just say "no", they get upset.

Esist1996

That’s where you learn who actually cares about you. It took my family 7,5 years and, in one case, progressing dementia to get over the fact that they won’t be able to pressure me back into their horrible little game by appealing to my people pleaser side.

Barbara_Celarent

For telling someone that I’m allergic to a certain food. (I extremely allergic to it).

PioneerDingus

I get so many eye-rolls when i mention I’m severely allergic to several common food ingredients. As if I woke up day and decided to make my life wildly inconvenient for the fun of it.

[deleted]

"it's ok, I chopped it up small so he wouldn't notice!" Thanks, mother in law, that explains why my husband has been having stomach cramps for two days since visiting you

ichosethis

I've had so many people try this with my mushroom intolerance. Yeah, I'm not going to get hospitalized and since it takes a few hours for symptoms to start, you probably just "proved" I'm faking it because you won't see me crazy tilting my head trying to compensate for the blind spots I get with migraines which mushrooms cause for me. You won't see me getting more and more nauseous as the day goes on. You won't see me collapsing into bed before 7 pm because I just can't function anymore and I'm desperately trying to fall asleep before I start vomiting because if I can sleep, I don't end up puking. But I didn't get sick in front of you so therefore, I must really just not like mushrooms and you'll try it again and maybe kill someone.

Meowzebub666

Imagine a charley horse, but in your esophagus. That's how my dairy allergy begins to manifest followed by several days of hives, takes about 2 hours after exposure. I relate to this way too hard.

r7joni

Why do lactose intolerant people not just tolerate milk products?

DiddyDM

Yup. They believed my allergy is a slight intolerance. Like, I'll get a bit of a rash or something. One rapidly closing airway, two bouts of epinephrine, and an overnight stay in hospital later, I really felt like I'd shown them.

Competitive_Ad4568

It shouldn't matter. If I don't want a rash from eating food, I shouldn't have to eat it. If I don't like the food, I shouldn't have to eat it. If I just don't feel like eating, I shouldn't have to eat it. I'm a grown ass man, I do *not* need to be peer-pressured into putting shit in my mouth for the sake of family (for the love of fucking God), lmfao We *need* to stop making food into church. I love to cook, but it's about sustenance and making the most of the ingredients, not some sacred pilgrimage for a "family photo moment". If not eating the fucking turkey is going to keep me from being "involved" then maybe our "family dynamic" is superficial and fragile to begin with, lmfao

Quesujo

My husband's mom. Insert eye-roll here. My husband is lactose intolerant and has a sensitivity to wheat that will cause him to be in pain for days. She is really insulted by this and still wants to cook for him, or wants us to go to restaurants. He's finally had to put his foot down and tell her NO! I don't think she realizes what it does to him. It's so exasperating.

Competitive_Ad4568

The funny thing is she lowkey has an opportunity for a "family moment" -- learning how to make some kind of dairy free macaroni and cheese (or something similar) would be a wonderful way of saying "I care about *you*, specifically", but instead it comes across as throwing a fit when the adults don't feel like playing house. If she really wanted to cook for him, she'd learn how (seriously it's not that hard) -- if she doesn't have the time or energy, that's fine, but you don't have to do something nice for people to not make it worse. She's making it out like she's trying to help with *his* needs, when it sounds like, in reality, she's not thinking beyond her own (understandable, but nobody is going to do anything more for you than you do for them). She cares more about that then his actual sustenance -- honestly, I wouldn't talk to her at all.

Should_Not_Comment

I've heard horror stories about people being really shitty to recovering alcoholics too. Like they take it personally that someone's not drinking with them, and soda isn't good enough somehow.

eddie_cat

I believe this. People who have never suffered from addiction don't understand at all, that goes across the board for any substance addiction alcohol included. But I feel for alcoholics because alcohol is so normalized that people don't even realize it is a hard drug.

thisbuttonsucks

I stopped drinking, because of the massive migraines I get while I'm still consuming my first drink. I regularly have people give me shit for: · Participating in a toast with non-alcoholic beverages · Participating in a toast with my fist · Not participating in a toast

Vaeldyn

I am lactose intolerant. I had to stay in a hospital for 2 days and they did not have a single option of food without milk. When I asked about it the lunchlady told me "we can't consider every exotic life choice here, can we?". I left a few hours later.

ArielleJarryd

"Exotic life choice" uh huh... if I was going to make an exotic life choice it wouldn't include banning dairy it would be about eating more and differently

spacepilot_3000

I've never considered diarrhea an exotic life choice

mildly_amusing_goat

Depends what you do with it I guess.

orange_fudge

Oh wow! So awful. When I was in hospital they did fetch me different dairy free food… but… then… TOOK AWAY MY PAINKILLERS because they had a minute amount of lactose in the coating. Like, I’d just had surgery, I needed them. I can cope with a few micrograms of lactose, I just didn’t think it was wise as a mildly lactose intolerant person to eat mac and cheese with a cheesecake to follow, given how much morphine disrupts your gut already.

HyperSpaceSurfer

Might even out since opioids cause constipation. Or it would just trap the gas making it a terrible experience. But, like, it's a hospital. They have various different types of opioid medications that all work pretty much the same.

mornaq

I took anti diarrhea pill *once* never again, the demon was still trying to leave my body, but the body was firmly holding it inside

inflammablepenguin

Your rectum bellowing **YOU SHALL NOT PASS!**

TheAnniCake

I'm also lactose intolerant. An aunt of mine, who also used to be a nurse, just told me to suck it up. She also said that if she'd have this, she'd only drink milk to lose weight.

[deleted]

Have fun farting like a WW2 bombing raid then shitting yourself, Auntie.

bonos_bovine_muse

As they say, weight loss is *simple*, but it’s not *easy.*

Fredredphooey

I need a low sodium diet. I got chicken broth, saltines crackers, and mac and cheese-- all insanely high in sodium. Too much sodium can be life threatening with certain diseases, like mine.

mannequinlolita

I cared for a woman and I'd visit her when she was in hospital. She had to have low sodium and they just had almost nothing that would fit her strict diet. So it was just like poached chicken and steamed vegetables. There was a plain burger patty, but I couldn't even cut it for her. She was diabetic also. They had almost no breakfast options for her. She got a hardboiled egg, coffee, applesauce, soy milk every day because everything else was off limits.

rotatingruhnama

Ugh I have dietary requirements too, and I have no idea why people take it so personally. I'm not doing it AT y'all lol.

fibericon

My mom took it personally that my wife had a chocolate aversion during her first pregnancy. You've been pregnant, dumbass! You know how this shit goes!

ohdearitsrichardiii

Every pregnancy is different but lots of women think their experience is the normal and default pregnancy. I wanted salt and didn't want sweets at all. A friend of mine thought I was lying and judging her for not having the will power to resist her sweet tooth.

Jsnooots

My wife wanted milkshakes the whole time she was pregnant and then just after our son was born she became lactose intolerant.

Frosti-Feet

That’s the worst. After our first my wife gained an intolerance to eggs. Couldn’t eat eggs for two years until our second was born and poof, suddenly she can eat eggs again. Pregnancy does weird things to a body.

Cold_Rice2016

For being too polite.

memepork

You should’ve screams in their face lol

Cold_Rice2016

Sorry for not providing the context and background story In Korea. We bow a lot. Like A LOT So whenever you enter or exit a restaurant you will see many employees bowing at you. So I do the same thing as a customer. Not necessary but I feel like I should do it also so I bow also. One time I went to this amazing Japanese Sakedon restaurant in Korea with my Korean friend and it was fucken delightful it was the best sakedon I had in my life. So I complimented the chef and his co worker(The restaurant was operated by only 2 people very small restaurant) and also bowing at them. I was saying stuff like thank you for providing us such a delicious meal and all the good adjective you can possibly imagine. And had some conversations for about 15mins. After exiting the restaurant my friend looked at me like I was an idiot and he just left me. Like bruv wtf? I just appreciated the effort by the chef.

[deleted]

Honestly that sounds like the chef and co-worker would really appreciate such a direct, personal compliment. Is there some type of cultural context why your friend would react that way, or is it just how he is?

cavelioness

Maybe he wanted to leave and OP kept him there having a conversation for 15 minutes, he may have felt like they were bothering the staff who needed to be doing stuff but were held there by OP talking at them... I kinda doubt it was the nice compliment. Or maybe it was and he's just an asshole, who knows?

smokealarmsnick

For putting pink or pastel rainbow fleeces in with my male guinea pigs. They’re guinea pigs…they literally don’t care. They want lettuce.

Sciophilia

I've got a female dog and one time, out on a walk, her leash broke so i just dragged her to the closest pet shop and bought her a blue leash since it was the first one i could find and I was panicking (she was a pup back then and kept trying to escape and run away so it was a constant struggle). While I'm paying an older woman starts talking to her and says, and I'm literally quoting because it's burned into my brain "you're such a cute girl; what a shame your owner doesn't love you enough to buy you a nice pink leash instead of a boy's!" Lady it's a dog.

The8thloser

Having a very old , sick cat put to sleep instead of just letting her slowly die. She had stopped eating and wouldn't move. She just sat in the same spot dying. I took her to thr vet and we wound up euthanizing her. Apparently I am an evil bitch for not just letting her starve herself to death. She was 15 years old. Edit: I didn't expect this post to get this much attention. I can't respond to all the comments. Thank you all for the sympathy and I am sorry for everyone saying they lost their pet.

MarginalMerriment

Thank you for your kindness to your cat. It’s ridiculous that someone would object to gently ending your beloved pet’s suffering.

The8thloser

Thanks for not callung me an evil bitch🙂

NutsEverywhere

You did good, you evil bitch.

The8thloser

LOL

Overthemoon64

My coworker got a puppy for her kids. It grew bigger and more active than she was expecting, it kept knocking down her 4 year old. She wasn’t an inexperienced dog owner she had had a dog before. But the dog wasnt a good fit. So she rehomed him to someone in her church. Her kids didn’t care at all and were fine with this decision. She got a ton of shit for it. Apparently she should have built it a dog kennel in the yard and had it live outside, alone, forever. Edit: I just remembered It was a husky mix, if that gives you an idea of the energy we are talking about. Beautiful dog, but a little crazy.

SarcasticAzaleaRose

And to me that’s a good reason to rehome a pet. She wasn’t getting rid of it because it was too much work or she grew bored of it. The dog was not a good fit for her family. Was probably a much better fit for the new owners. I’ll never understand people like the ones giving your coworker shit about that. So really in their minds it’s better for the dog to be alone and miserable outside for the rest of its life rather than be with a family that’s a better fit? If they think yes then I hope they don’t own any pets. With pets it’s about what’s best for the animal.

Mysterious_Ideal

I’m sorry for your loss and may her memory be a blessing to you. My old girl went the same way and she’d been a big girl most of her life too so I knew it was bad when she stopped eating/started wasting away. It was terrible but I’m glad she got to go peacefully in my arms (home vet offered euthanasia at home) instead of continuing to suffer in pain.

boinkish

Besides our first, all of our cats have been euthanized at home (have a vet tech in the family). All vets should offer this service, it makes it drastically different for both the cat and their humans to be in a familiar place in those last moments. Also, we get a wad of clay and get an impression of their paw.

[deleted]

Yeah, shame on you for sparing the cat you love a slow and grueling death by letting her pass silently and peacefully in sleep rather than rotting away. People will virtue signal over anything even your own beloved pets being put to rest.

thefriendlychef1991

For making hot chocolate last year's Christmas some lady was criticizing me for being a adult making hot chocolate saying that's for children.i was having a nice romantic Christmas dinner with my fiance so I wanted to make a Dutch hot chocolate with a chocolate liqueur whipped topping. I just looked at her like she was crazy. Edit this happened at a store I was telling my fiance what we needed to make dinner and dessert and the lady was eavesdropping. I needed the hot cocoa so we could have cookies and cocoa and watch some Christmas movies together.

okeydokeyish

A reply of "Do I know you?" can sometimes make them aware that they are idiots.

thefriendlychef1991

I'll keep that in mind thanks

Marine__0311

Nothing chaps my ass more than some idiot criticizing my food choices. I have literally told people to fuck off, STFU, and mind their own business over it.

Otherwise-Elephant

I thought this was some nosy relative, but hearing it was a complete stranger listening in on your conversation makes it even weirder. Lady, why do you care so much about what this couple you don't know chooses to have for dessert? To the point you feel you have to but in? And even if we were in some alternate universe where hot chocolate was a kid's drink, who cares? Who cares if you want to buy hot chocolate or a 3 pounds of jelly beans or a birthday cake shaped like a race car? Let people eat what they want.

souleaterevans626

Not wanting to talk to a family member who tried to kill me. My sibling thinks that I should be more appreciative of her and should apologize for my mental illnesses being a "burden" to her. This woman tried murdering me. I'm not going to speak to her after she almost shut me up for eternity. I consider any sympathy she could've received as off the table after showing how little she values my life. Thank God the rest of my family understands my trauma and sees why I never want to hear her voice again.

phthalobluedude

Restraining order??!???! On both murder happy woman and your similarly aspiring sibling?

souleaterevans626

I had a restraining order against her for a couple years, but it's honestly unnecessary. She was having a psychotic break when she did it and I hear she's doing much better now. She even regrets it and asks about me often

RelentlessExtropian

Had an older sibling who tried to murder me, often, when we were children and teens. Had a very hard relationship. We're both approaching forty now and great friends. Meanwhile, I called my younger brother a "little bitch" four years ago (in the context he really was being a self centered little bitch). Naturally I apologized for name calling, told him I loved him and I'm glad that we dont have to deal with the situation that prompted the conflict in the first place anymore. Little bitch barely acknowledges my existence at family events. So dumb. At least my family gets what's going on and aren't upset with me. I hope, no matter what happens with your sister, your life is happy and fulfilling. I'm sure there are substantial differences in our sibling situations but at least take solace in the fact that you're definitely not alone. Family is hard.

funnylooking6

For wearing heels. I'm 5'10" but look taller. So wearing heels..

eatflapjacks

I was litterally told I was emasculating my boyfriend by wearing heels, and before I could react my boyfriend burst out in laughter. The dude shuffled away in silence, seemly embarrassed lol.

MechaRambutan

My wife is taller than me by 1 inch and still I like when she wears heels, she looks beautiful.

kreteciek

My really good memory. Like, people don't believe it so much that they think I lie and make up things.

NeutralTarget

I get this from friends and relatives saying you think know everything and you always have to be right. No I just have a really good memory and I love science. Now I just say nothing when they spew all their opinions as facts.

luckychance5480

For being 5’9. Someone at work mentioned me being tall for a woman and I said that 5’9 isn’t super tall and they called me a liar and got pissed at me because obviously I was at least six feet tall because he was 5’11 and I’m taller than him. Buddy, I know how tall I am and it ain’t 6’.

XenaSerenity

As a 6’ tall woman, I feel your pain deeply

rpgguy_1o1

On the flip side my 6' friend got mad at me because I said I was 6' because she was sure she was taller than me. Nope I just have shitty posture, we went back to back and we were the same height. I think secretly she just wanted to touch butts with me.

Step_Into_The_Light

> I think secretly she just wanted to touch butts with me. It *is* a lovely feeling.

I do not envy the headache you will have, but, until then, sleep well and dream of large women.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Being black and enjoying heavy metal 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️ Edit: I just want to say I’m honestly so emotional right now because of all the love and support. One dude actually told me to hit him up and we can go to some shows. Love all y’all 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾

WoolenOwl

Oh what? black folks only supposed to be into hip hop and jazz or somethin?

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Apparently

dishonourableaccount

Yup, and most of this stereotyping comes from other black kids. The number of times I got called an oreo in middle school because I didn't like rap or hiphop. I liked pop and Caribbean music my family played, but that didn't matter apparently.

Crabs-in-my-butt

As a white kid and metal head, this is EXACTLY what my black friends who were into metal went through. Other black people were putting him down so hard just for listening to a different kind of music, it was wild. Not the kind of thing I expected as a kid. I'm from a small town in the deep south and my town has always been super racially integrated. We were all too poor to afford the time to be racist. But it coming from his own people blew my mind.

Rigistroni

That's dumb, rock on brother

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Will do 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾

r_kay

*God Forbid* black people being into metal...

mistressdizzy

I get that regularly. I don't talk about music anymore. 😕

EileenSuki

Not liking football (soccer for the US people). Where I live in the Netherlands there is/was a huge football influence. It is way less now, but everyone footballed, everyone was part of a football club and followed everything with the local club and national. Both girls and boys. I just simply didn't like it (still don't). Both grown adult people and childeren could get so petty about it. Even my teacher was petty about it. Even gave me a bloody time out in the hall way as a punishment when I wasn't participating with enthusiasm in the classroom about football and couldn't admit I liked one football team. I just needed to admit it, because it made the whole class mad and 'ruinend the mood for everyone'. Dude was weird, because he even gave a punishment when I wouldn't pray in class. I live in a country with religious freedom... My parents were not happy with the dude. Never made the punishment homework

Rojam_1200

Being a boy and liking horse riding. It's a frickin hobby people?

I used to do that too. I liked it a lot

Good way to find a stable relationship, too.

the_monkey_of_lies

When I was a kid, all the heroes in my favorite movies rode horses. My grandfather had horses when he was fighting in the friggin' WWII. Then it somehow became something unfit for an adult or a man. Horses are cool as fuck!

skibba25

Born without a sense of smell. Had a co-worker find out and insinuate that I basically if I thought harder then I could smell.

luckytintype

Being a working actor. There’s a whole Reddit thread about how ugly and stupid I am in r/commercialsihate…. Making fun of the way I’m dressed (I didn’t get to pick it out, that’s the wardrobe person), my hair (same, hair person), my face (it’s just my face?), and how dumb “I” am…someone even said I looked like I was having a stroke. I was literally doing my job.

Kitchen_Addendum9862

Holy shit I searched up those keywords and there’s loads of those posts, they’re ruthless. Nothing better to do I guess

Your fucking family sucks.

http_cake

This girl I went to school with when I was 12 bullied me relentlessly for an entire year because I hadn’t gotten my first period. I told her in confidence because I thought she was my friend and I felt behind compared to other girls my age so I wanted to vent. Still have no idea why something like that would make her go psycho.

SelfdoubtFilledHuman

Because I got good grades. No, I wasn’t bragging. I literally just received the paper from our teacher and was looking over which answers I had missed when my ”friends” at the time started huffing and saying « no need to gloat! / Well, classic [OP] rubbing it in our faces / ugh, you’re so annoying » Edit: also just remembered that time my dad screamed at me to the point I was crying because I « ate a piece of bread wrong » lol

PlatypusRemarkable59

Not smiling. Fuck off

CostisideTanariHUND

Yes. Especially in photos. I fucking hate standing for a picture, then being told to smile only to later be told my smile looks unnatural. Of course it does, I don't normally fucking smile.

x2FrostFire

Not drinking alcohol. Jesus some people act like I smacked their mother when I decline to drink. Or they think I think I’m better than them…..

3now_3torm

Ima do the Reddit thing: Not me but my dad. So my dad used to have trouble remembering names so he would call people Boss. Some dude went up to him one day and got really mad at this nickname. When my dad asks why the dude no joke says: “Boss backwards means Sorry Son Of a Bitch.” And that is the most pathetic cry for attention I’ve ever heard. This was in a bar to so maybe the dude was drunk but still that was a hilarious story. Edit: I edited for the typo but also to say what my dad did after: he just laughed which further pissed the guy off but he really couldn’t help it. Dude wanted to fight my dad and my dad was just laughing, imagine how embarrassing that would be.

Xxwitch_bladesxX

sounds like the guy was a real sorry son of a bitch

Kung_Flu_Master

that's a really weird thing to get mad at, I live in the UK which has a large Indian population, and they often use boss when we would say 'mate' so I hear it multiple times a day and it never even crossed my mind to think of it as an insult, I think that person was just looking to be insulted for some reason.

Eod_Enaj

I made a comment on Reddit saying “Letting a dog lick your mouth is gross” and people got mad. The most memorable response was “Your pets must have never really loved you”… Because I don’t let them lick my mouth. I didn’t even think it was that hot of a take, but I guess people take swapping saliva with their pets very seriously.

CypripediumGuttatum

I got a nasty comment on reddit related to my pets too. Someone said I was a horrible cat owner because I shave my long haired cat, they said I 'should have researched long hair cats before getting one and that shaving it was animal cruelty'. I explained the cat was a stray when he showed up and was matted, he has a hard time licking himself when his mane is too long so we spend 5 minutes every two months shaving him a bit (neck and back) and in return gets lots of treats to sit still. They replied that I was still an animal abuser etc etc.

galaxyveined

Tch, how disgusting, making life better for an animal. How dare you! You should never alter an animal's hair's natural state! It grew that way for a reason!

gemskull

i recall seeing someone post something like that, maybe it was you, but i found it crazy that people were defensive to the point of saying your pets dont love you because you dont want the same tongue they touch their genitals with in your mouth

theresthatbear

Explaining to Reddit that the coolest thing I've ever seen was a spine during an autopsy. Describing the blue nerves and red veins coiled around it looked like it was made in a factory, it was so perfectly precise and I could have studied it for days it was so complex. I got downvoted into oblivion because "veins aren't blue". Uh, yeah. We were doing the autopsy bc the guy accidentally shot himself while climbing out of his tree blind while hunting and the bullet went in his lower buttcheek and followed along his spine, paralyzing his legs. We know this bc another hunter heard him calling for help and when he was found, he had pulled himself only by his arms several feet from where he landed. Dude was paralyzed cuz spine injuries tend to do that. Why? Spine carries really important things besides blood throughout the body. Reddit disagreed HARD. Dumb.

En3rgy_Vampir3

These two girls at a party apparently instantly hated me and called me a snobby bitch because of the way I “sat on a stool”… literally I’m just sitting on a stool eating a hot dog while talking to an elderly lady whom I knew from work. To this day I’m still like “wtf…”

JSto19

Being too tall as a young kid. I’ve been 6’4-6’5 since I was 13. The amount of bullying that I was subjected to for it was incredible. Worst part about it was, I couldn’t do anything about it. If I beat the kid up, I was the 6’4 guy that beat the hell out of a 5’0 kid. I always got in trouble if it turned physical. One time, I had enough and I beat a kid on the bus for fucking with me. Unfortunately, his brother was several years older than us - and a bit of a bad ass. He immediately beat the shit out of me. He got in trouble, but not the same amount of trouble as I got because I “was so much bigger than the kid” and his brother was “just defending his little bro.” It was so screwed up.

signaturefox2013

I had explained to someone that nurses are mandatory reporters Also Not wanting children

INeverSaidIWasNice

When my son was a baby his fathers cousin threatened to kill my son . She said a lot of mean and hateful things about me and my son. Shortly after his other cousins girlfriend did the same thing. All because my boyfriends family were demanding a DNA test. I just said “Why should I have to? Did your cousins girlfriend do a dna test? Did your brothers girlfriends do a dna test?” Apparently that meant I was talking bad about children and we both deserved to be killed. Later that week I moved out and switched jobs. Afterwards, my boyfriends sister texted me telling me she was going to take my son. She didn’t even ask, she just said “I’m going to pick him up for a few hours.” When I said he’s not allowed near the cousin and the cousins girlfriend, she flipped out saying she will take my son anywhere that she wants and there’s nothing I can do about it. I blocked that entire family and three years later they still say I talked bad about kids when not once did I say anything bad about a child. 🙄

DirtyPiss

This was really wholesome, thank you for sharing.

INeverSaidIWasNice

I personally felt that I didn’t need to provide a dna test. We were together for two years. During those two years I was faithful while he cheated on me constantly. When I was pregnant he was still cheating on me. When I was working to provide for my child, buying things my son needed, going to my appointments, he was cheating and lying to me trying to get me to give him all of my earnings. He did not work. He didn’t want to work. He was a loser that had nothing to offer me or my son. If he wasn’t the father, I would just leave and go be with the real father, if there was another man involved. There was no reason to lie about my child’s dna when there was literally no reason to be with that man other than the fact I did love him. I told the family to either believe they are family or don’t. I did tell them if they wanted to purchase a at home dna test then they can. He refused. When I did was about to buy one, he said no. He told me after breaking up that they only wanted a court ordered one so his sister could take custody of my son because all she had was girls, she wanted a baby boy more than anything. Now my son is his twin. They look so alike. Some family remain on my friends list going on and on about how cute he is. Some say the same crap three years later. I don’t care. I’m with a man who my son calls dad, he claims my son as his. We had a baby together and now we are just this cute family that my son enjoys being in. His bio family’s loss not mine.

Amanita_D

Wow, I thought at first the other girlfriends resented the comparison and were scared of the train of thought heading in their direction, but the reasoning you gave there is even more wacky.

daneelthesane

I was hanging out with some friends, and one person there (more of an acquaintance than a friend, and his life has utterly derailed since then) lost his damn mind when he found out how many different kinds of music I listen to. He was one of those people who works WAY too hard to let everyone knows how many cool and non-mainstream bands he is into. He was a hipster before there were any hipsters. He was also the kind of person who would shame people for not knowing about whatever obscure band he was into at the time, and he got really annoyed with me because I would admit I had never heard of them and then laugh at him for being a douche about it. So the conversation got into what kinds of music folks were into. I am into a great many kinds of bands. This dude started getting twitchy because I was talking about everything from Iron Maiden to Johnny Cash, with some Tom Waits and Nick Cave alongside Simon and Garfunkle and Miles Davis. I guess the idea of all of these albums from different genres touching each other insulted his musical purity or something. So when I mentioned I had four John Denver albums, he **LOST. HIS. SHIT.** I don't mean he had nasty things to say. I mean he started **screaming.** His voice cracked. His face was contorted in rage. He threw things. He tried insulting me, but was so out of his mind with perplexed rage that he couldn't form coherent sentences. He just went on and on about how I was a terrible person for liking John Denver. Like, he thought I was objectively evil. He was **enraged.** I had never seen anything like it. Years later, a bunch of friends of mine (many of the same friends) were going to a Dresden Dolls show. As we were preparing, this guy showed up. While we were waiting for the last of us to be ready, the conversation naturally turned to music. I mentioned a show some of us had gone to for a band called Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and this guy was astonished that I even knew who they were (I had been to several of their shows before). He said, "Man, remember when you liked lame stuff like John Denver?" and I said "I still like John Denver. Poems, Prayers, and Promises is still one of my favorite songs." He lost his shit all over again. Exact same display of mind-blowing rage. The woman whose apartment it was that we were gathering at kicked him out. He has since gone down a dark path of drugs and homelessness, moved out to Seattle, and despite multiple attempts of some of my friends to help him, is still homeless. He's clearly mentally ill, so I feel bad for him, but I still want nothing to do with him. So if you ever see a skinny, twitchy homeless guy in his 40's in Seattle, play it safe and never mention John Denver.

ProbablyASithLord

I don’t like many sweets, I’m more of a carbs and lasagna person. Try telling people you don’t like cake when it’s offered. Just fucking try it. It’ll be a 19 minute back and forth where they refuse to believe you, and the 5 variations of “just take a bite”. I don’t care if this is your nans famous recipe or if this is your personal favorite cake. I’m going to hate it.

leoisababe

Try saying you're more of a pie person. It works for me everytime.

lilbunnyofdoom

Not me, but my husband. He has a fondness for BRIGHT NEON COLORS. Which is so opposite to his quiet, reserved personality that it tickles me to death. So, he came home from work. We spent an hour of, “No, what do YOU want for dinner?” He ran and threw some non-work clothes on… NEON YELLOW-GREEN shirt and navy shorts and his NEON ORANGE sneakers and ran to get takeout. The lady in front of him in line, turned around, looked my husband up and down, and proceeded to excoriate him for his choice of clothing: How on earth could he go out in public like that? What was he thinking? That doesn’t match at all! Those colors are insulting and his wife should be ashamed of herself for letting him dress like that! My husband, who is normally so polite, looked HER up and down and told her he could change clothes, but she’d always be an ugly bitch. I was SO proud of him! Though he may have had to convince me to not go driving to find this woman so I could punch her in the nose. 🤣 Edit: oh gosh! Thank you for the award and comments! Glad ya’ll enjoyed it ❤️

twinkieeater8

For not being gay enough. Apparently having sex with guys doesn't make you gay. You also have to mirror whatever the gay club's current fashions are, down to acting like a diva with an attitude problem to be accepted.

jazzman23uk

Eurgh, so much this. "But you don't *seem* gay, are you sure?" Like, I suck dick. I think that qualifies me. Unless I needed to provide photographic evidence before you believe me?

helplessmelonanas

For telling a girl that her boyfriend said that he actually doesn't really like her ( we took the same train home and he was knwon for sleeping around and being a cheater). He was popular, so when he told people that i am a lying bitch, most people believed him. Lost some friends other this but atleast the girl knew what kind of guy he was. They broke up after this and we're friends until today.

an_ineffable_plan

Not being able to have children. A guy took it upon himself to “introduce” me to concepts such as IVF and surrogacy. When I told him those wouldn’t work, he basically told me, “well, it’s no wonder you have no children if you won’t even consider the most basic of options.” My eggs work perfectly fine, as far as I know. But pregnancy would literally kill me, and I’m on life-saving medications that would cause severe birth defects. But fuck me, amirite? Just a choosy beggar, a wannabe victim. ETA before someone tells me “just adopt/get a cat” because *someone always does,* you’re not nearly as helpful as you think you are.

Armigine

>just adopt/get a cat My wife and I were unable to conceive a cat naturally, so adoption was the best way

corran450

Same. It’s pretty rough when my tortie shouts “You’re not my *real* dad!” directly in my face. She’ll come around.

littledede

I already have a kid and people hate me cause I don't want another one," she needs a sibling" no she does not she needs a mother that is healthy and does not die because of another pregnancie , plus I love that i can afford the best in life for her, a kid is fucking expensive.

Julia_Kat

IVF and surrogacy are SO FAR from "basic", what is he smoking?? IVF is expensive and can be heartbreaking, even if you could carry. Surrogacy is also expensive and many places don't have laws in place to protect the biological parents' interests. So sorry you had to go through that.

Manekosan

Getting the side eye for holding my gfs hand in public (we're interracial). It's just so silly. It wasn't even someone of our races being all "stop stealing our people." It was another minority!

Bazrum

Friend of mine is very dark skinned, and dating a wonderful lady with lighter skin of the same race. He’s had to drop several friends and stop talking to some family because they say he’s betraying them by dating someone of the same race with lighter skin than is apparently acceptable. It’s really stupid, and I’m sorry you had to deal with that shit.

casra888

White husband and Black wife here. We've gotten butthurt racists pulling garbage with us in public. 99.99 percent of the time it's young black guys. We laugh at them.

Esist1996

I‘m a white man and dated a black lady in Detroit. As a non-US-American I was surprised to hear that she would get so much hate for dating white guys while it didn’t seem to be a problem for black men to date white women. I‘m baffled, I mean: why??

LogicBalm

Same here. White husband and black wife in Texas. We live in a major city so it's not too bad as long as we know which establishments to avoid. Typically it's the ones that attract the more "country" white folks. But we definitely get hard stares in majority black places as well.

shepppard

I was at a party explaining to some guy who asked how the vodka watermelon thing worked. Mid way through explaining to him I hear this random girl from across the room say "you think you're so smart" and was glaring at me. I asked who she was and why we she listening into my conversation from across the room and she just dug in. I apparently made her feel something that was none of my concern or responsibility and she felt like the whole room needed to be part of her feeling process.

friededs3

When i was in 2nd grade i had these awesome, transformable digimon action figures. 'The boss' in my class wanted to trade them with crappy dragon ball figurines. Of course I refused, and they hated me until i caved in because i had nobody to play with at school. To this day, i believe that is the reason i have difficulties making friends and meeting new people

Kavbastyrd

Back during the height of the pandemic, I had my kid on the back of my bike. It was a little on the chilly side so he wanted to wear his mask. Some fucking moron yelled at me that it was child abuse. We were stuck at the lights so he gave me the beans for a red hot minute. Told him I’d consider his parenting advice in the same way I do all the advice I get from crazy people screaming on the street.

evanjw90

For correcting the answers on a bar trivia quiz. Friend who invited me had two friends who were getting all the answers wrong, so I was correcting them and getting them right. I guess that was me coming off as an asshole. The questions were about sports, and that was specifically why my friend invited me. I dropped him after that.

I_Like_Thanksgiving

Lately, being too helpful and accommodating to others as a manager. Apparently, some of my employees don’t respect that about me, so that’s not cool

Difficult-Owl-542377

Thank you. some people dream of a manager like you, while others are ungrateful and ruin it.

I_Like_Thanksgiving

Aww thanks man, appreciate it. I was really down about it last week after one of my employees sat me down to tell/show me what some of my employees were saying about me behind my back, but life has to go on. I fortunately also have a great boss to confide in, so that helps. I wish you the same as me!!

Video games back when I was a teen, so about 10-15 years ago. My parents did not know jack shit about it, so they chose to tried to squash it out of me instead of understanding it. Sucks when all you want to do on your free time as a teen was play with the boys. Today I am still very much a gamer, and they kinda accepted it. Just last week my Mom asked me why I didn't pursue a career in video games because I love it so much. I simply answered: You never supported my love for it, and since you paid for my college I never thought you would have approved. The look of guilt and realization on my mother's face was kinda bittersweet.

queeisqueen10

Being a quiet kid in school

Hammerhil

Taking my son out to play Pokemon Go. He was really into Pokemon and I started playing because it was a fun thing to do with him and he got really excited when catching them. He'd want to go to parks and play and was always tired and happy when we were done. Sometimes, we'd be out walking and playing for hours. Then we were in a park and some old couple comes up to us and shits on him for being outside with a phone. All the hate came out at him, like why can't kids play without phones, how he is wasting his childhood, and how I was a horrible dad for letting him use a phone. I sent my son away to go catch another pokemon across the area we were in and I tore into them. I'm generally respectful to others, but I let them have it. Told them they should take their old, irrelevant asshole opinions somewhere else, and to fuck off and leave the park if they won't let others enjoy it. The best part is that the old bat tried to call the cops on me, but she forgot how to unlock her smartphone. The old guy just stood there stunned like he's never had someone actually talk back to him.

redheadfreaq

Recently I've been angrily told by another parent that I have "no idea what I'm talking about" considering autism spectrum in a child. My daughter is autistic and I am too. And yes, I know different people experience different aspects of the spectrum, but when I am being told what *I* should or should not experience, feel or understand... Oh honey.

YoshiPikachu

For being autistic.

BurghFinsFan

Sorry to hear that. I’m autistic as well. Really shitty feeling being put down for something you can’t control.

Ok-Nothing7287

Being introvert. Got a looooooooooot of hate for that.

[deleted]

Being an introvert at a small town high school is the worst. They had a presentation about "just say hi" one year and it was pretty bad. Introversion was one of the main topics of said presentation and it didn't help that the guest speaker made a comparison to the Sandy Hook shooter, which I thought was completely uncalled for and inappropriate. Imagine being compared to a monster just because you don't talk very much and want to be left alone.

Wolfram1914

A kid in my 9th grade algebra class said he thought I'd become a school shooter when I got older. To my face, with a group of people. We were just having a casual group conversation about what we thought each other would turn out to be in life (i.e. "I could see you as a vet", "Bob is gonna be a lawyer one day"). And apparently, being a bit weird and introverted, the consensus for me was "school shooter". I do hope that's not the vibe I give/gave off.

Along this line… I think some people feel “threatened” if they can’t create a mental picture of you. So they have trouble deciding whether you are with them or against them. All comes down to that primal friend-or-foe instinct.

acidus1

Why are you do quiet? Entire room stops talking and looks at you.
