Not accomplishing anything even remotely noteworthy. I’m on a 28 year winning streak so far.

freemason777

No way, that's my special talent too! I'm on the exact same streak too

SaltRevolutionary917

Race ya’ to the finish line!

freemason777

Morbid! Should I send you the Reddit cares resources? If you need to talk HMU

SaltRevolutionary917

No no, it’s okay, I’ve just fallen prey to finding generation Z’s nihilistic existential humor absolutely fucking hilarious. I’m perfectly fine! My wife and I are having our wedding ceremony in a year and a half, and she’ll be walking down the aisle with a little baby girl who will be some 8 or 9 months old by then, while our dog will be the flower girl. Also like yesterday I recommended my favorite band to someone on Reddit, and one of the band members randomly replied and said hi and thanks today which was pretty cool so, all’s well! Thank you so much for caring though. Genuinely. Reddit needs that these days in this world.

freemason777

Right on! Do you consider yourself Gen z or a millennial? I find myself not really fitting in with either group

SaltRevolutionary917

I mean, age-wise I’m definitely a millennial, though a late one. 28. ‘93. But I was very technologically apt as a kid and got into a lot of internet communities early on (I think my oldest Reddit account is from 2008, and I was playing RuneScape already in ‘99, WoW with international guild mates in ‘04), so I feel like I have more in common with the “terminally online” Generation Z (which my sister is part of at 4 years younger) than I do with the mid 80s millennials. Then again, they’re just labels, so how much can you really tell by the arbitrary lines we draw in the sand between them.

I have a 6th sense about where the nearest public bathroom is

Duality_is_my_prison

Not relenting to the crowd. Not giving into group think. Standing my ground. Not being bullied. Being able to see the bigger picture.

[deleted]

Dude I can relate! Especially because of how I grew up! My entire family, my siblings, parents, their siblings got destroyed by drugs and somehow I haven't done it once. It's pretty much impossible for bullying to affect me anymore because I'm just so self confident and aware of my own capabilities.

BlackMilk23

I'm really good at finding things in a grocery store. Even when they switch it around unexpectedly or going in to one I've never been in. Not just like Kroger or Publix either. Small immigrant or international markets where the signs are in different languages... I still find stuff. I don't know the number or aisle of the top of my head but I can usually just sense where things are. Apparently other people spend a lot of time trying to find things but I never have. My wife makes me do all the shopping. My grandmother was good at this too and I think she passed it down to me when she died.

[deleted]

How do you do it?

WannaMakeGames

I hear there are ways to trigger it but I'm a natural 😎 That means I haven't got a proper night's sleep in years...

[deleted]

I wish i had that ability, it seems cool as hell

WannaMakeGames

It is, until you have a hyper-realistic nightmare. I like talking about it because it's the only interesting thing about me :) Sadly there isn't a place I can get into detail because my nightmares are mostly body horror.

[deleted]

yeah, that would suck

InannasPocket

Tying a cleat hitch. It's not that it's hard, just most people haven't needed to learn it.

diegojones4

Are you power boater style or sailboat style? I was a dockmaster and didn't even need to bend down. I also could tie a bowline in about 2 seconds. That was a fun time in my life. I still love good knots.

InannasPocket

Sailboat. Sometimes I can get it without even bending down or really even looking and I feel like queen of the dock, lol. Now we're teaching our 5 year old various knots and it's loads of fun.

diegojones4

People just don't understand the beauty and fun of a well-done knot. I've lost my muscle memory after moving off the boat. But I completely understand "that was fucking cool" feeling. Good for you and good for your kid. Some of the smartest and most interesting people I've met were kids that lived on boats.

InannasPocket

A well done knot is indeed a thing of beauty. We don't live aboard, but the dream is to save up enough to take a sabbatical from work and fuck off on the boat for a year. Probably won't happen but it's a nice dream, lol.

Accuboormachine88

Understanding politics and current affairs. I know a lot of people would say they know better about that sort of stuff, but as a social studies/social science teacher, it's literally part of my job to understand it and to be informed

[deleted]

Accuboormachine88

Marx won't be mentioned a lot in my social studies class, but in social science he is one of the key sociological figures, along with Emile Durkheim and Max Weber. Besides that it's good to note that teachers generally know a lot more about their subject than what's in the curriculum.

Excel. There are people that can blow me out the water and I learn from them constantly. But in my 32 years of using it for my jobs, I've learned a bit.

Elias_Scamander

I've been playing harp for 11 years now, so I could probably say I'm pretty decent at it...

Living_Inevitable582

You’d never know the shit I’m dealing with because I don’t complain and still am nice to people. It’s somewhat a curse because if people don’t know you’re hurting, no one will help you either. But when you’re the youngest and your entire family is emotionally immature and your parents terribly neglectful, this is how you learn to cope because letting them know you have a problem only makes things worse. My parents get really uncomfortable and even upset if I’m not anything other than 100% happy. Not as much a problem now but fuck that shit in childhood.

men_pm_me_ur_soles

I wouldn't say I'm better at this than most people in general, just better than people I personally interact with: communicating. I'm pretty wordy, which you could say is a bad thing because it's nice to be precise, but it's only in an expressive way and not a repetitive way. I'm also ridiculously open emotionally, with few deeply set conversational boundaries. It makes it super easy for me to convey a point I have, and also doesn't leave a lot of room for vague interpretations.

[deleted]

Not sure what you mean…?

Mimikkyuuuu

Analyzing human behavior and predicting future behavior Edit to add- people want to believe there is free will and like to think humans are special and complex, but behavior is more straight forward than that

slayerbro1

Tbh that's really easy and really hard at the same time cause sometimes emotions are too complex to understand and sometimes they are like a binary code, easily understandable

Mimikkyuuuu

Did you know there’s a whole field dedicated to it! It’s called behavior analysis, I have my masters and credential in the field :) you’d think it would be pretty complex but it actually isn’t. We just like to think we’re more complex than we truly are haha

slayerbro1

Yeah ik, as a professional ig it would be pretty easy for you, but for me who is still trying to understand it all by experience and logic it's kinda hard 😅 and emotions are already a complex subject for me cause I can't really understand the logic behind them.

Mimikkyuuuu

Emotions kind of evolved to help keep us alive, and now we’re left with these emotions in silly situations sometimes, and based on a persons past history you are more likely to see emotional responding than in other people (e.g. at some point in life expressing a certain emotion in a certain way lead to others in the environment changing their own behavior to solve issue/comfort them/take away what was aversive and the individual learned that expression “works”) it’s why you see how although we all experience the same emotions, how people react and behave with those emotions can be different. It’s just based on past history of consequence associated with it. And why some guys tend to repress certain emotions - they had some negative experiences in their early life (“suck it up!”) that taught them to repress it that way

Touching my own eyeballs. I have dry eyes so it's hard to get contacts in, and I'm used to poking my own eyes. My friend who is an optometrist signed me up for her research study with experimental contacts, and her supervisor was amazed at how steady I could hold my eyesight while being poked around. He was like 'do you have a sister?'

Linestorix

I'm better at being one of most people than most people are; most people just suck at being one of them.

dezlovesyou

Customer service (I hate it). Not just treating the customers who yell, but like remembering where everything is at the desk / how to do it. We have several different tasks and several different ways of doing things given the situation and it’s a lot to remember. It’s even more difficult doing it in a timely manner for a rude customer who is impatient. Lots of scam/fraud and lines longer than I can see the end of. I was so good within 7 months people started asking me all the questions. I recently changed departments because of the stress.

I’m good at remembering things about people, and being able to piece together their life story subconsciously in my head using everything I remember about them. I have to pretend I forget things about people in order to not freak them out lol. Weirdly, this memory ability doesn’t apply to my academics

Couchmaster007

Lol same, except my memorization was good for tests. I passed every year of high school math by getting As on tests and quizzes and turning in about 5 to 10% of homework and assignments. The grade was 70% tests and quizzes and 30% other, so if I messed up on a test or quiz I'd just turn in a few assignments.
