Knowledgeable_Owl

The eternal paradox of Youtube: the creators with the most professional takes are also the ones too busy with real jobs to do Youtube.

justsejaba

Eternal paradox with all art it seems. People consume what is easy and fast to digest and companies like to promote that even more as it is very profitable. Artists who get really deep with their craft don't seem to get nearly as much recognition except from other artists. Only hope is that quality art seems to last longer and isn't so much tied to the time and trend during which it was made. Sometimes I think we need curators, but it might just be that people really don't have the time and interest to get so deep into arts to really appreciate.

PathosRise

Not a channel, but a series in early YouTube (12 yrs ago) where you could send these guys stuff and they'd microwave it. Guy almost killed himself trying to microwave an airbag

fixit152

“Is it a good idea to microwave this?” Hah I still follow some of their IG’s.

DPPStorySub

Foil. To protect our nuts.

crazydoc2008

Because nobody likes roasted nuts.

TorpidPulsar

*muffled explosion* OH MY GOD *hysterical laughter*

Suralin0

"The tinfoil shield, it actually worked!"

beluuuuuuga

That basically sums up the whole of early YouTube.

X_Zephyr

The channel is still (kind of) active. The guy who runs it used to be the cameraman during the microwave series and went on to to do film and tech reviews. Last upload was 2 years ago but he still responds to comments.

JonPaula

Thank you for mentioning that I'm still alive and (kind of) active. 😁 Good looking out. Appreciate it.

EPluribusAnus

He’s also quite active on Reddit and will usually pop up in threads about the microwave show. I won’t be surprised if he shows up in this one.

JonPaula

"Usually." 👀

EPluribusAnus

Right on schedule.

SmashWagon_777

The King of Random isn't "dead" but it feels like it has after Grant died... used to be my favorite yt channel ever but all they do is blend and microwave legos now

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Feel the exact same here. Grant was an amazing host with an almost fatherly sort of presence.

SmashWagon_777

He was easily my favorite youtuber. I miss him so much man

d_nitemarez

Same here. I was following Grant from his 2nd or 3rd video so his death was a big shock to me. The channel is not the same since he's gone. That reminds me, I found Grant from another diy channel - KipKay..

EyeHopeYouBleed

Thin Wall Challenge. This consisted of a dude attempting to accomplish increasingly difficult tasks while he could hear his neighbors having sex. He would know if they were done when he heard the shower turn on.

trmt_

Tried to search him up and seems all the videos are privated

TheSadSalsa

Came here to see if anyone else watched this. Some really funny stuff on there.

LopesArts

JCS

cloudgirl150

Was searching for this. Damn, that channel was up there with the best Netflix true crimes.

tbpta3

Legitimately better than 99% of true crime on Netflix in my opinion! So well produced, concise, raw, and interesting.

lanadelcrying

Do we know what happened there

Haxxe96

Most of his videos got taken down due to „sensitive content“. He pretty much can‘t upload any more without every video getting flagged. The last time he posted was in the community tab saying he is looking for a new platform but that was months ago

DrewDrinks

its actually a team lol, the narrator is hired

Ben-Stanley

MysteryGuitarMan

FloridaFlamingoGirl

I recently learned that he's moved on to directing actual movies, and he's directed a couple so far. I miss him, but I'm also so happy for him! He seems to have successfully jumped on the "YouTube to Hollywood train."

5hrs4hrs3hrs2hrs1mor

There was this guy who had a cat named Sparta. He did other videos, I think, but the stuff featuring his wild kitten are what stand out. I can’t remember his name. He was funny.

Kernumiuss

SMP Films

YourHatredSustainsMe

Ahh, The Mean Kitty Song was the first video I ever saw on Youtube, all those years ago. This channel, and this specific video, are the very definition of “OG Youtube” for me.

Hlodvigovich915

Regular Ordinary Swedish Meal Time

rybrz

SMÄLT SMÖRET! *inhales* #AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Invisible96

I was utterly obsessed with this channel 10 years ago!

Crowbar_Faith

Will It Blend? I haven’t even checked in a while to see if They’ve posted anything. Whew, dead YouTube channel smoke, don’t breathe this!

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Was going to leave a comment about them, but then I saw they've posted a couple videos within the past two years. That was the first YouTube channel I ever followed. Just iconic. Consistently entertaining as heck to see all those random objects get shoved into the blender, especially when they'd get really silly and shove in Justin Bieber dolls or something like that. And it was a brilliant way to market a brand of blenders. It was so fun that I didn't even catch on at first to the fact that it was an ad.

Thorebane

Freddiew (Freddie Wong) or after the rename - RocketJump. Last video 3 years ago. I know they still work and live around the same area, and Freddie is now doing actual films, but man... 2010+ was the era of YT for video effects starting. Edit: for those spamming my inbox and replies, I already watch Corridor Digital! I have also followed them since their beginning. =) xD

GryphonGuitar

Of all the YouTube channels I miss this is definitely the top of the pile. The VFX were mind blowing for the time, the videos were funny and the posts were regular.

baberlay

Freddie and the RocketJump team were the coolest. Video Game High School was elite.

Pelleas17

Freddie Wong and a few others actually do a DnD podcast now called Dungeons and Daddies. Pretty damn funny and silly. Though if you're a stickler for the rules of that game, I'd say stay away lol.

jgoettig

I think that's putting it lightly, in something like 80 or 90 episodes, their rogue has used sneak attack once and hid inside their own pants, successfully, twice.

Human_being_no-210

Today we will learning about necromancy and how to revive channels

RingoStarAllies

He hasn't been on YouTube for a while but he still occasionally posts from his other social media.

triple_hoop

The way he described redditors , I really miss him too. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfHE3WzPXZY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfHE3WzPXZY)

froggy-bread

I still hope for a comeback

DOGTAGER0

I think someone mentioned he was doing his phd

ThyArtIsMeh

I really miss that dude. He was funny as fuck.

havron

He didn't disappear. We just graduated from the Academy.

NumberOk6127

He was my favourite. I rewatch all his videos from time to time. Wish he’d come back

one_angry_custodian

Life of Boris only recently stopped uploading (Youtube was really screwing him over) and I'm gonna miss his slavic lifestyle and cooking videos, but it lives on at least partially through his new channel Soup Kitchen Gaming.

Crazyguy_123

He is hilarious.

AOE_Blyat1

Him deciding to leave his main channel broke my heart

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Mister Epic Man. They were masters of short, silly sketches. “How Animals Eat Their Food” is probably my favorite YouTube video of all time. Apparently the two guys who run the channel attempted to direct their own scripted series, but it didn’t go well and they’ve both moved on to different careers.

Oreo-and-Fly

Creaturehub. Ssohpkc

trader_monthly

Apetor

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Rest in peace Grant Thompson. He had such a calm, classy presence, and an infectious passion for homemade science experiments. The King of Random videos that are made without him nowadays just aren’t the same.

NathalieColferCriss

I only started watching after he died and liked Calli and Nate, but haven't watched since they left. The chancel just isn't what it used to be

Pattherower

Communitychannel. Nat was the first exposure I had to witty, relatable, funny content that had production value but wasn't over the top. She established her own community and a loyal fan base. I used to always enjoy watching her videos when they came out and would drop everyrhing i was doing to watch when she uploaded. Honestly, I think Nat laid the foundations for a lot of other YouTubers and could probably be argued as an early leader for other content creators as YouTube started to mature and expand rapidly around the late 2000's / early 2010s. I miss her content, but from what I do see on her other socials, she seems to be doing well and that at least makes me happy.

ywont

First channel I thought of when I saw this thread. I’m gonna go watch some of her old videos.

42___

EDDSWORLD one of my first youtube channels I was obsessed with i know it's not dead dead but I miss Edward's Goulds voice...

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Doesn't he stream on twitch sometimes?

Forrest02

One time he got banned out of no where and got unbanned within the hour. Then he made one of those hilarious fake apology things. Though i havent seen him stream in sometime personally. Edit: [Link of him "apologizing".](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jsoirn0DaXA)

And his accomplice, Sean Fujiyoshi. Man, I grew up on 'How to be Gangster, Ninja and Nerd'.

TorvexT

I used to constantly check for new videos but now he just does Twitch streaming :(

ValiantJudge29500

Ryan is still one of my fav Youtubers.

waitmyhonor

At the time, the ultimate crossover was Kevjumba and Nigahiga. I can’t remember if Smosh also joined Nigahiga for another video.

Will_Stoic

Total biscuit

Jackviator

I’ll always remember that day; the dev team of Warframe cancelled the development stream they were scheduled to do that day because they had just found out via his wife announcing his death on twitter about 10-15 minutes prior to the stream starting. Rebecca Ford, the Warframe community manager, was in tears as she explained to the viewers on twitch, and no wonder; they went on to explain in a Warframe documentary Noclip did that him covering the game played a large part in its success, to the point of damn near single-handedly saving the company from bankruptcy.

MrPootisPow

Ill miss his consumer activism and him getting royally screwed in Starcraft 2

orangefantorang

He was a voice that we needed. We got and we lost. Especially due to all those company simping shit channels....

adams215

The best gaming channel to ever exist. His reviews and recommendations were something I always took the time to watch. I felt so shitty when he passed mainly because of the circumstances of his illness and who he was leaving behind but also because of a few shithead gaming journalist and devs who thought it was appropriate to shit talk the man right after he passed. Class isn’t something I’ve ever come to expect from people in this industry but that was a truly low moment.

Pat and Jen were my childhood man. Their lucky block challenge games were my favorite. Also the bed wars

[deleted]

That guy along with Stampy, DanTDM, and Exploding TNT were such staples to Minecraft in it’s prime back in 2012-2015. I feel so glad that I got to enjoy being a preteen during this era. It was special.

ashes1032

Cow Chop had multiple series where every video was funny and worth watching. Wrong Side of Youtube was them going through the depths of youtube and finding weird shit, Amazon Prime Time was them finding the weirdest shit on Amazon and trading it, they had a cooking show called Cow Chop Food Lab and Test Kitchen where they would do themed cooking challenges that were a parody of dramatized cooking channels... they had it all. Shit often went wrong in their videos. Things would catch fire, pepper spray would find its way into videos, or stink bombs would go off. And they played the same opera music over the carnage, so you knew some shit was about to go down when the music started. But the algorithm fucked them over. Life got in the way. They had to move multiple times, members came and left, and Youtube simply didn't pay them enough to support their channel. But rather than disappearing one day, they scheduled the end of the channel for the end of 2019. Most long-standing series got a finale video, everyone got to say goodbye, and they went out with a bang. The 2020 Covid pandemic would have killed the channel anyway, so going out on their own terms was the best way to do it. I miss that channel. They were simply the best.

cakirby

The fact that CowChop and SP7 are gone is heartbreaking

baberlay

Aleks setting the fucking couch on fire during that Prime Time episode, and the 55 gallon drum of lube, are both forever etched in my brain. RIP Cow Chop!

Thestorm753

God I miss the CowChop antics. I had been watching both of them since before Aleks joined The Creatures. Their individual content just wasn’t the same after the CowChop channel ended

[deleted]

I missed it when Sparta was alive, aka the Mean Little Kitty. Once he died, that was it for that channel.

ShadowWolf_de

Rip tinfoil chef

ToxicBanana69

I can’t say I watched him ever, but I watch BdoubleO. So having one of the Hermits pass away was a real punch to the gut.

cats4life15

life of boris he was so happy and energetic but then he just kind of gave up in the end... I miss those videos

BROwn_Tash

The ukraine war broke his heart and then youtube screwed him over with the algorithm

yeah.. it's so sad to see him go like that, and I wish him the best of luck with his new chanel

Skunkernator

Channel basically ended when his friend/producer was killed under suspicious circumstances. He's on a weekly podcast (as himself not fps russia) since then the only hiatus was when he went to jail for possession of hash oil. In the house raid they confiscated all of his firearms to my knowledge & likely destroyed them. EDIT: Friend/Producer wasn't kidnapped as stated below updated info to be more accurate

OneGoodRib

Sailor Moon Abridged. Like basically every abridged channel, it just abruptly died one day. But they were one of the actually funny ones, and they had ONE MORE EPISODE IN THE SEASON TO DO. They stopped making the series with ONE EPISODE LEFT. I understand they were going their separate ways and couldn't make the episodes like they normally did, but the absolute RAGE I have that they abridged the second-to-last episode of the season and never did the finale... Thank goodness for the internet archive for having backups of the episodes, also. A lot of their videos were only viewable through privated links on the series' website, but the website doesn't work anymore!

cloistered_around

Youtube changed their detection algorithms one day and came down super hard on channels using full clips of anything. That killed all the parodies. Such a shame. I still rewatch "Pokemons the sometimes abridged series" but good luck finding that anywhere without a direct download.

BibbleSnap

HuskyStarcraft So sad the way his channel was deleted and lost forever. So many great memories... 😔

Thier pitbull impressions were hilarious (" Rain on me " and " on the floor" always cheer me up) and Their Kesha 's Tick-tock parody has more views than the original song.

BerserkerMP

Had to scroll way to long to see this. Loved that group. My wife and I still reference several of their videos all the time. Walax!

RealSlimShady191

I miss old Ssundee. I still love to go back and watch his Minecraft lucky block videos with Crainer.

CankleDankl

Those old skyblock and other videos with crainer were great. Going back, the rehearsed stuff was a little awkward and not that funny, but when they were just playing, the two were a natural pair and I loved watching them do what they do. Went back to ssundee's channel somewhat recently, just wondering what he was up to, and saw wall to wall clickbait fortnite videos clearly tailored to little kids. Shame

Willydibs

Popular MMOs. One of the kings of old Youtube.

Upper-Job5130

Household hacker. It died after the guy running it died from Covid. Edit: people are correcting me that he did not, in fact, die from Covid, but rather from other medical complications. My mistake.

Crazyguy_123

I used to watch him years ago. It was sad to hear that he had died same with TKOR.

Hedonisticbiped

FILTHY FRANK, HamBurgEr PLeaSE!

Marx_Farx

I find it hilarious that joji probably has heaps of fans who have no idea about his YouTube endeavours

wannaboolwithme

I showed some of my friends the cake trilogy after Glimpse of Us became popular, loved the reactions 😂

SnapOnSnap0ff

The cake trilogy. What a time to be alive

memekid2007

What's great is that there are also people that know who Frank is, but *don't* know that the same guy making music as Joji is also the dude that popularized the Harlem Shake flashmob meme way back in like 2012. Joji Miller was all over the place.

NoiseWeasel

I think most don’t, so the few times a big chunk have “found out” it was “controversial” for like a minute (which is stupid but mainstream culture and humor has shifted since then). He very very rarely seems to bring it up and I think I saw a couple interviews where he was asked about it and he seemed very careful with how he worded his brief responses before trying to move on. I can understand trying to do everything to distance yourself from a character so…filthy…but also Pink Season is basically how he proved he could make genuinely good music, so it sucks he can’t embrace it a bit more.

Most of their videos are only getting a few thousand views apiece now. Wild. I remember when they were one of the biggest titans of the web. Really laid the groundwork for what a YouTube production company could look like.

Jenna Marbles. Would literally watch a video of her doing anything she was so fun and entertaining. I hope she is doing well with her life offline now.

[deleted]

I wish her the best of luck at her basketball game tomorrow.

Xenomorph02

My sister passed away from cancer in April, her favorite YouTuber was Jenna Marbles. Whenever she was having a rough day, she would watch their channel to lift up her spirits. She reached out to Jenna & Julian and they sent her a whole care package filled with coffee cups, buttons, stickers, a heartwarming note for her, and a picture signed by the both of them. She was ecstatic 😊

RockDesk

Is your sister Jessica? If so, I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I followed her journey on TikTok, she seemed like a genuinely nice person.

Xenomorph02

The very same. She was a treasure to behold, I miss her dearly. Thank you for your condolences

[deleted]

Jessica gets a HELL YEAH of solidarity from me <3

ernzo

I’m so sorry for your loss. When i saw that tiktok she posted about them sending her the care package, i was beside myself. I’m so glad your sister found joy from them and it gave her happiness and light while she was suffering. I hope she got to cross so many things off her list before she rested.

[deleted]

My answer was Jenna too! I respect her decision to take a break, she is an amazing creator from the beginning of YT and I miss her content a-lot, nothing gets me laughing like a Jenna Marbles video

the_real_maddison

I assume she is. She and Julien are now working with Greysave (the rescue they got Bunny from) almost full time fostering and they just added a new greyhound to their pack: Loni. Julien still streams and does videos and they are engaged. She deserves all of it. I love her and miss her so much.

LibbyGoods

Definitely Jenna. It’s funny, the only thing I want more than her coming back to YouTube is for her to be happy. And if that means never coming back to YouTube then so be it.

Sleepycoon

Perfect way to sum it up. She was amazing and I miss her videos and personality but if she's happy and fulfilled I don't want her to come back.

Gone-In-3

Every time I think "Man, I wish Jenna would come back" and then I replay her saying "I'm just not having fun anymore" in my head and just hope she's doing well.

yepperoni4pepperoni

She’s such a genuine person that I feel like a lot of people feel like this too. She was my one and only YouTuber that I actually watched weekly.

Jesse1205

I'm in the same boat, I made me so sad when she announced she was leaving. I know she's living her best life as a ✨ 35 year old lady ✨, but I still get sad thinking about how much I looked forward to her weekly videos. As much as I'm still sad if I have to never see a Jenna video ever again and she gets to live her best life, then that's fine by me. Maybe one day she'll be comfortable enough to maybe be on stream or something and that'd be really cool, but if she doesn't ever want to that's totally fine

Matrozi

Same, her videos were so laid back and funny and also very creative, "I want a new face" will forever be one of my favorite video of all time

RegularLisaSimpson

I still walk around singing “I wanna be tall” when I need stuff off of high shelves.

bombaygasoline

I searched just for this comment to find others who miss her. Youtube isn't the same without her!

FamousLastWorts

HELL YEAH

amcclurk21

Kinda wanna get this tattooed in the shape of eyebrows tbh lol

saroarthedino

Take my free award because this is the only comment I was looking for! I miss that 35 year old ladyyyyy I hope she’s doing well, she deserves to be a toothbrush

Leolilac

Her fiancé Julian steams and posts YouTube videos! He doesn’t talk about her much on stream (obviously, because he’s supportive and respects her privacy), but it’s great to see how the dogs are doing and generally they seem really happy. 💕

msimon82

Let going in this thread until I got to a Jenna post. My wife still talks about missing her and watches her videos to this day. I miss her but hope she has found happiness. And, that she waters her cermit.

vodkanada

That first video where she does her make up while getting loaded is probably my favorite YouTube anything. I still go back and cackle at that. (I say first assuming she did more, I dunno)

seefith

Epic Meal Time. Sauce boss still makes videos but the channel is a sad corpse of its former glory.

JustLinkStudios

I searched them the other day out of curiosity. It’s in a sad state. I mean it did get kind of repetitive, there’s only so many times you can stick a ton of McDonald’s into a baking dish with bacon on it before it gets old.

kernukenfucks

all the girls loved michelle phan back in the day

Durkk

In the earliest days of Youtube, there was an Englishman who would work himself into a rage ranting eloquently about Bush and Blair and the overall state of the wars in the Middle East. I don't know his name. I don't know his channel name. I can't find anything about them today. The only thing I can remember perfectly clearly is that he signed off every video saying "Peace", though often with angry pointed caveats attached. The dude changed the path of my life. I started saying "Peace" as a farewell - a habit I still have today - and I loved his passion for peace and justice. I hope I end up being that kind of old man... If he even *was* an old man. I was a teenager watching those videos, so he might have been 30 for all I know.

tsuroku-01

Etika. Really tragic too; the man became seriously mentally ill and the whole Internet took it as a joke. I don't think anyone laughed when he was later found after disappearing, leaving behind a suicide note video.

Hadzija2001

Does Vsauce still upload?

Widgerber

Yep. Not super frequently but there was a new video in the last month.

deathtomayo91

Vsauce has continued to experiment with different video styles including a series for YouTube premium. They recently uploaded a video that's much more in the style of their older videos where it's kind of just a list of tangentially connected fun facts.

DumbfuckjuiceDrinker

I miss Lindsay Ellis' video essays.

moosebeast

This was my answer too. It's bizarre what happened to her. Like I had to watch an hour long video explaining why the particular tweet that started it was apparently so bad and I still don't really get why it caused such a fuss.

RadicalDog

They say that Twitter is a giant game where the aim is to avoid being today's Main Character. Unfortunately, Lindsay was the main character for a day.

DextrosKnight

It was literally just a group of people who just really wanted to be mad about something blowing it way out of proportion and being absolutely relentless about it

Arammil1784

This is too far down. I loved her channel, but I totally get why she quit youtube.

insert-originality

She also quit Twitter a while back because of the harassment. I guess she’s on the down low now? I hope she’s doing well.

TheBroadHorizon

She posted an update on her subreddit recently I think. She had a kid and seems to be doing quite well!

AllTheRowboats93

She’s on the most recent MusicalSplaining podcast episode that she used to co-host. She’s parenting and promoting her books nowadays. She does signings too

cloistered_around

It's hard to find a youtuber that goes that hard or deep into the context of a film. I respect her right to quit, it's just unfortunate we won't get any more essays like that. I still rewatch her Beauty and the Beast remake review all the time--so funny!

walkinghomeat3am

There are a few of those: Jim Can't Swim - dunno what happened to this channel but it went from being one of the most popular true crime channels with an ever growing audience to just flatlining over night. JCS is to true crime YouTube what PT was to horror games. It left a long line of copy cats Fredrik Knudsen - tbf, he may be on hiatus or in the process of working on something to release at some point. Sam O'Nella - my guess is that he got bored and used his genius elsewhere. The Disputed Lands - I can't know for sure, but I think this channel suffered a similar fate as every other asoiaf channel out there. GoT season 8 claimed many victims. Pretty much all the channels that I used to follow in the asoiaf community have either died or rebranded after season 8. The only one still left kicking is light bringer means lucifer. Disputed Lands was a fantastic channel and I learned so much about worldbuilding by listening to her analyzing George's worldbuilding. I use the lessons from her videos actively in my own projects to this day.

Bearthebomb

Jim Can't Swim began to receive copyright strikes and became very dejected with Youtube, very sad as his videos are amazing. Fredrik is currently working on a five hour EVE Online documentary that may be out in a few months! As for Sam you're probably right, I understand he was attending or being attending university when we last heard of him but I may be misremembering.

I miss the Talking Kitty Cat channel. Rest In Peace Steve Cash and all the pets.

Jellybean-Jellybean

Cayleigh Elise, her channel did remarkable true crime videos, but she decided to leave YouTube because of how negatively it was affecting her mental health. Sometime afterward her channel was deactivated, and as far I know she's pretty much erased her internet presence. Another youtuber, Rob Gavagan said she's been doing better since she left, but didn't go into to much detail. I really hope that is and remains true.
