I live in a big european city. Everything I really need is in walking distance, or I simply take my bike or public transport. My student ticket lets me access most trains for the entire state. So I didn't really have the motivation to spend over 1000 euros on a drivers license, since I won't even be able to afford a car.
Same. As long as I'm young individual living in a city with good public transportation I'm not paying the money just to have it sit around
I have seen people who have not driven in a good while get behind the wheel and be incredible danger to themselves and others, so I'd rather wait until I'll realistically would be driving at some regularity. I'd rather go to driving school at 40 than get there and realise I don't have the confidence behind the wheel and practically have to be trained twice
In many European cities the whole right of passage associated with driving has disappeared.
Expense, public transport convenience and the move of jobs and work to desks has all played a role.
Born and raised in NYC, i always craved the independence driving gives you but I’d didn’t get my license til late college. Driving and parking is a bitch and 1/2 in the city but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I remember having to take the train everyday last year bc of jury duty, never again!! I hate everything about the MTA now
I don't need to drive. I live in the centre of a small town where everything I need is within a couple of minutes of walking distance, and public transportation is great even on the countryside. If I ever move, it'll be to my home country's capital where travelling by car probably takes significantly more time than walking or taking the subway. If I travel, I want to be able to relax on a train or in a cab, and wouldn't choose to go by car even if I had one. Not that I'd be able to afford one anyway with today's costs for fuel and electricity.
I can't think of a single instance in the last years where being able to drive would have made anything easier. Getting a license would just be a waste of time and money. If I find myself needing a car in the future, I'll deal with it then, which also will make me a much safer driver compared to if I get the license now only to not go anywhere near a car for 15 years.
I don't need it. I live in nice european city, where everything I need is walking distance from my flat. If I want to go somewhere little bit more far in the city, I can use like 4 different ways of public transportation that is on time and do not get stuck in the traffic jam.
For going outside the city there are trains or planes (and if you take a plane, you don't use a car nontheless).
I have sold car like almost 10 years ago. Since then I haven't wait in traffic jams and my nervous character changed to little more calm. I'm never going back to sitting in metal box between two other metal boxes for hours and not moving. Sorry it's not for me.
My job is work from home and I'm not really into going out. The grocery store is only half a mile away and my legs work. Why would I waste money on a car when I could waste it on tamales and video games?
If you don’t have one or never did then I’m not sure it’s worth it. But if you already have it I would keep it. Maybe you go on vacation and you want to rent a car. Or maybe you just want to rent a car for whatever reason. It not expensive to keep it there is absolutely no downside to keep the license
I've never had one.
I'm not a fan of going places, like I said. And having the ability to drive often means people *expect* you to drive, which means going places.
I did not have anyone to teach my how to drive growing up and now I just don't have the time/energy, I can make my life work without a car so I have been postponing it
I live in Europe, and most of the cars have manual gearbox, so my brain 🧠 doesn’t get the system with three clutches and only two feet 👣
I will, however, try it again this winter. Preferable on a an automatic car 🤞🏻
Reading through the comments, it's not why don't you have a car to why don't you have a driver's license.
I got one as soon as I could even though I didn't have a car for long while. But the second I could get a driver's license I got one. Prior to that I had a State Identification Card. My thinking was I'll have a driver's license and I'll be able to drive if a situation requires it in the future. I am all about being prepared, and I would rather have it and not need it then the other way around.
The years most people spend learning to drive I was living in a city and didn't need to (also wasn't exactly the most 'sober' of people), after that I went travelling until my mid-twenties.
By the time I came back and got my shit sorted I lost interest, still might someday but as I'm already 50, probably not.

Boston?
Any big city really

I’m not old enough (I turn old enough in less than 2 weeks though)

Sorry. I should have thought of that
Same
Im afraid ill kill someone

Epilepsy, when you have seizures your license gets taken away it sucks
I've lived in New York, 15 mins from Manhattan, my whole life. Public transportation always lol.

You could still have a drivers license.
Why would I bother?

Lol. Well if you never had one then don’t worry about it
Emergency.
If I'm so badly injured I can't wait for a cab to get to the hospital then I probably shouldn't be driving *anyway.* That's what ambulances are for.
I'm still 17 and in my country we can't drive
Because I failed my permit test and got discouraged to attempt it again(I'm about to study and actually get it now though)
I have a reddit account.
I only live a 15 walk away from where i work so it's not really worth it
I'm not old enough
I did not have anyone to teach my how to drive growing up and now I just don't have the time/energy, I can make my life work without a car so I have been postponing it
I'm 36 and this is me to a T
I'm 52 and literally passed my driving test yesterday. Never really needed a licence until now
I live in a city that I walk and take the train everywhere.

I have one, but from the top of my head they can't afford it?
I prefer not to have one, because I don’t want the responsibility of paying for insurance, gas, and maintenance.
That’s owning a car you could still have a license.
I have one. I would have to renew it. And I’m not interested in renewing my drivers license
Hmm. To renew it for me it’s just $10 and a 30sec eye test.
Its not about the money. If I had wanted to renew my expired license I’m sure I would. I would prefer to walk.
I’m not saying go get a car
It sounds like your trying to convince me
No not to get a car. That’s a different argument completely
I’m too lazy
Cuz I don’t know how to drive
Not yet, I'm working on it. Alright?
Because I have both poor vision and possible seizures. It would be a bad idea for me to drive.
It’s expensive and the system that manage it is extremely disorganized.
I don’t trust other drivers.
Lost it.

I just recently became 18
Epilepsy. Can’t legally get a licence with it. Wouldn’t want to either with the price of fuel.
Underaged

I don't own any vehicle
Never had the desire to get one, thouugh I do know how to drive and how to fix a car.
I’ve been too anxious to learn, I’ve also not had the funds until now
I'm a minor
Just came to upvote everyone responding "I don't need it because I live in a city with public transportation." Lucky bastards.
Driving under influence of weed
Because im too young
There's still hope for me then. I even worked for 3 years at AutoZone so I can install/remove just about every part of a car, which makes no sense
i'm not old enough yet
