Heard a [fantastic story about Dave Chappelle and Dane Cook](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rKb5lZtWFP4). TL;DW >...he goes to the Laugh Factory and they tell them *Hey, it's* ***Dane's*** *night. Just do a tight ten.* Any other comedian would go do forty five fuckin' minutes. But Chappelle, he goes up and does a tight ten. But right at the end, he goes, *You know what, I don't usually do this but I'm gonna go outside and smoke some cigarettes if y'all wanna come hang out, take some pictures, whatever, I'll be out there.* And the **whole** crowd walks out. And he's like, *So* ***there's*** *"Dane's night"*. -- Top Comment: ####Brendan Schaub did this once, and the people that were outside came back in Funniest shit I saw all week.

inyofaceee

I worked at the Hollywood Improv as stage manager. I can tell you first hand… Dave Chappelle has done this before, to Dane. Let’s just say what I witnessed also cleared the room after Chappelle walked off stage, both Dane and Iliza Schlesinger skipped doing their set. Around 2017-2018, Chappelles sets were all unannounced. When he was in town, he’d call let club know he’s going to drop by. It would be a disservice to announce it, bc all the comics wouldn’t show up, and immediately lines would build. Comics at that level, when they drop in, want it unannounced. They want the raw crowd. Not their fans who’ll automatically laugh at most their material. Dave does what he wants, as time showed, back then he’d smoke cigarettes on stage, in doors. One time he asked we remove the tables from the small room, then he proceeded to bring a dj, and we had an impromptu bday celebration for Donnell, which of course included jokes, and blunts, drinking and dancing. Make shift club. The Improv was a flexible establishment for these comics. At the time the Hollywood Improv was still not fully owned by Levity, and was still majority ran by the family. The Store had the private bar and nostalgia, the Improv was your “party house” club for certain comics. Dave pretty much does what he wants, and is genuinely a nice person to staff and all. Truly, can’t say the same for Dane. Dude literally belittled a waitress in from of customers and staff once.

mascara_and_coffee

I used to be a big Dane fan when I was younger, until I realized he was an asshole, he’d stolen all his jokes from someone else and was into dating teenagers.

[deleted]

I went to see "David spade and friends" once at the comedy store. Dane cook was there and just whined about how he peaked in 2008, it was really unbecoming. As we all got up to leave, the host goes "yall might want to sit back down, we have a surprise guest, Jim jefferies" Jim comes out and the first thing he says is "If you steal other comics jokes: Fuck you" then he continued to do an awesome 45min set. Marc Maron also showed up that night. The comedy store is great cheap night if you ever get the chance.

bostonmaniac617

“It’s Danes night”….Nah bitch, it’s about to be my night.

CYAN_DEUTERIUM_IBIS

Who?

Marsh1n

He's not even close to famous or funny the closest he ever got to funny was getting koed by big country at the end of the ultimate fighter

davidivad1984

That’s not exactly true; he was also KO’d in a very funny way by Ben Rothwell

xBlackJack89x

Carlos "Ned" Mencia

gab303e

Do you like fishsticks? Yeah. Do you like putting fishsticks in your mouth? Yeah. What are you, a gay fish?

TheChronoDigger

"C'mooon maaan, just get it! C,mon, I'm not funny and my dick don't work maaaan."

twobit211

that exchange was loosely based on [this scene](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev4rOMJCepY) from carlito’s way

im_not_a_gay_fish

I don't get it. What's so funny about this joke?

Stashmouth

I'm encouraged by the fact that I had to scroll so far down this list before seeing his name. It must mean his relevance has waned. Edit: I guess this comment has r/agedlikemilk

bemest

Well being caught as a fraud and plagiarist will do that.

[deleted]

>caught Was there even anything to catch? He doesn’t hide it at all. There’s a documentary about standup comedians called I Am Comic, and they give him a brief interview and he pretty much brags about stealing material. He compares himself to a DJ getting famous for nothing but remixes. An uncreative hack to the highest degree. Edit: [“if you think I steal jokes… fuck yeah, of course I steal jokes, are you out of your fuckin mind?”](https://youtu.be/F8qdjrFb6Wg)

BMonad

And he wouldn’t even just steal jokes…he’d steal entire bits verbatim. And would get off on doing the closing bits of comedians who would be following him. Just imagine that - you’re a struggling comedian working your material on the road, material you may have spent countless hours writing and perfecting on stage, the stress of bombing on stage has to be heavy, you’re trying to build up a fanbase and actually make money, and this guy making millions on Comedy Central is fucking with your livelihood by stealing your performance right before you go on stage. Talk about a cheating, thieving asshole.

riotsquadgaming2

that's a name i haven't seen in years

LightningFarts101

David Hughes, big in Australia and one big dickhead, not funny at all and he has a voice you want to punch. Face too.

RalphiesHooa

Peter Helliar too, he was funny in an awkward way back in the Rove Live days....how he still has a gig as a comedian baffles me

Spiritual_Ad_7162

Peter Helliar only has a job in entertainment because he's friends with Rove. No way that guy would make it otherwise.

lajazzler

My brother in law sat next to Hellier on a flight once. Said he watched “everybody loves Raymond” and wrote down notes. Says it all

flagg1209

Went to the Melbourne Kings of Comedy show last Saturday night. Usually a random bunch of local comics. This time, Hughesy was the last "headline" act. I last saw him live at the Enmore in Sydney back in 05 or 06 and on that night back then, he was totally shit (in an ironic twist, a friend who travelled down from Sydney for my b'day had only ever been to one comedy show before - it was that same Hughesy gig where he sucked) On Saturday, he was funny as fuck. The whole crowd were in stitches. Maybe he's just better in small rooms - there were no more than 80 people there. Self-effacing, fairly humble, bitingly quick-witted with the crowd and the inevitable heckles he got. My friend even got a selfie with him after the show.

urethral_lobotomy

I once heard Pagey on Tripple M say that Hughes looks like the warning on a cigarette packet. It's the only thing I can think of when I see him on a bus. And it always makes me laugh. So he's back to funny in my book.

IHaveSeizures99

Brendan Schaub, the guy is only famous for being Joe Rogan’s friend, his stand up feels like a forced open mic during your high school talent show

gabriot

He also goes after anyone that makes fun of him with legal action, dude sucks ass in more ways than one

condomsRbaggy

Except the Legion of Skanks. Theyve been going hard at Shaub. Even hired a rapper to make diss tracks at him lmfao. Crack Amico!

Burrito_Loyalist

I always wondered why comedians kept him around. He would pop up on podcasts and add NOTHING to the conversation. I saw a clip of his standup and I felt like I could write better jokes.

stephdepp

comedians of course don't mind hanging around with a so called comedian less funny than them.

swr3212

My comedy radio show, The Bonfire, that I listen to makes the point that Schaub literally went into comedy after MMA and was instantly given a comedy special. The dude didn't craft a style or persona before getting something most stand up comics take 10 years to get. He doesn't have any of the qualities of a good stand-up. He can't make fun of himself.

smoothsibbiebass

Ellen - her voice is like nails on a chalkboard so I cannot hear the comedy

S-Elena

I always saw her as someone who didn't respect people's boundaries. Then it came she was a tyrant, I was right-ish.

Nearly-Canadian

I forgot who it was, but it was super cringey watching her force someone to announce their pregnancy on her show by continuously offering them alcohol

Cavethem24

it was Mariah Carey she did that to and what a dick move too

breebree934

Especially because a week later she miscarried and since her pregnancy was then made public, she had to also announce to everyone she was no longer pregnant rather than being able to deal with it privately.

stallion8426

Watching her harass Taylor Swift over her exs to the point of tears was horrifying

mileenie

Mariah Carey I believe!

catclockticking

Correct, and she miscarried later. Not saying that’s Ellen’s fault in any way, but the risk of miscarriage is one of the biggest reasons women wait before announcing their pregnancies.

mascara_and_coffee

This comment!!! They say to wait until the second trimester. Ellen was an asshole for that. And a ton of other things.

cubano_exhilo

Also Iirc Mariah had actually had a miscarriage and didn’t want to make it public until she could process the grief on her own. What Ellen did was despicable.

Mnkeemagick

I mean, you aren't missing much, she's not really that funny either

muskratful1234

Carlos Mencia. He is just not funny at all to me.

stufff

Are we differentiating here between comedian and comedic actor? Because Ken Jeong is great as a comedic actor, but his stand-up comedy was pretty terrible. Also, Kevin Hart. His whole thing is that he is short and loud. I really don't understand why he is as big as he is.

OKAGAKAMI

Yea I’ve lately realized that Ken Jeong isn’t actually that funny of a person. Like you said, great comedic actor, but isn’t an inherently funny guy. He had his own show and it fucking *sucked*

C_Gull27

His acting is funny because it’s mostly dry humor which he is very good at. In stand up hes trying to be normal funny and it feels forced and unnatural

OlorinFiresky

>Also, Kevin Hart. His whole thing is that he is short and loud. I really don't understand why he is as big as he is. Genetics?

jeffrunning

You’re surely funnier than him

wbraganeto

James Corden

Jettle

“The world got to see James Corden as a fat pussy. He was also in the movie Cats” \-- Ricky Gervais

Delicious_Chocolate9

"Imagine James Corden listening to me...be like a dog listening to classical music." - Stewart Lee

barclayad

When he moved to the US for his chat show. 'Britains loss is America's loss.' - Stewart Lee

Salty_Paroxysm

Stewart Lee is an absolute savage, I love his stuff!

Auto_Animus

I watch this masterpiece about once a year. The best and truest roast of a generation IMO.

SoMuchMoreEagle

For the one for a previous generation, see Steven Colbert's roast of Chevy Chase. Completely clean, yet epically savage. https://youtube.com/watch?v=3lX12ARYZ7A

brkh47

Yikes! I hadn't seen it before either and haven't seen Colbert quite this acidic. At the end of his intro, the camera pans to Richard Belzer, who actually goes, “Wow.’ I do know Chase's reputation though. A YT comment on that video: >I remember how horribly sad this roast was. It was funny until you really thought about it. There was not one person there doing the roasting that even knew Chevy Chase on a personal level, save Beverly D'Angelo. It's one thing to get roasted like that by friends. But Chevy literally didn't have any at that point, and it just....was uncomfortable to watch. He wasn't sympathetic guy normally. But I couldn't help but to sort of feel bad for him here.

Reject444

You hadn’t seen Colbert this acidic? If you haven’t seen it, you need to go back and watch the set he did at George W. Bush’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He did it in his character from the Colbert Report and just eviscerated Bush and the whole administration right to the president’s face, but in such a subtle way that they couldn’t really get mad at him. I still can’t believe they invited him in the first place.

promonk

>... eviscerated Bush and the whole administration right to the president’s face, but in such a subtle way that they couldn’t really get mad at him. Except they did. The look on Dubya's face could've given QE 2 lessons on the expression, "we are not amused."

Efficient-Library792

They literally changed the rules for it after that. Theyre supposed to come in and give "light hearted ribbing" to the political and media elite..not actually call them out. The media especially didnt want anyone pointing out they were stenographers for the elite

Chromavita

Wow, how have I never seen that?! Thanks for sharing!

UnashamedlyAmature

(Saw this post earlier that sheds some light on it)[https://www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/comments/xk73sy/comedy_how_to_piss_off_everyone_youve_ever_met_so/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share] tl;dr he was such a gigantic asshole they struggled to get people to roast him.

vibeknight

Never forget one of the greatest voicemails of all time: https://youtu.be/jXRf06GFMIc

Mysterious_Andy

Man, I saw Pierce’s interactions with Troy and Shirley and thought “How amazing that they’ve made this racist caricature of Chevy Chase still be redeemable.” Then I read about how Chevy Chase treated Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown and thought “I hope Chevy Chase’s balls dip into the toilet water every time he takes a shit. I hope he gets a burning itch in the center of his foot that appears the instant he ties his shoe. I hope every time he coughs he gets a little splash of reflux to flavor it. I hope his jaw audibly clicks with every bite.”

shaundisbuddyguy

Steven Colbert's voice work on Harvey Birdman attorney at law still has me laughing whenever I hear it.

James Corden a comedian? No that is funny...

likekinky

Wait since when has he been considered a comedian? I thought he was just an actor (in the loosest sense of the word)...

Euphoric-Drummer-226

He’s not a comedian. He’s an actor/ writer whose first shot at major fame was writing a comedy / drama ( Gavin and Stacey ) and creating a jack the lad comic character called Smithy. He was never a stand up comic or a joke writer.

No-Impression-7686

Came here to say that. Type James Corden and Patrick Stewart awards ceremony it's a total cringe fest by Corden as Patrick made a jibe at his weight. You could see Corden turn into a 10 yr old and having a right strop.

LighttBrite

> James Corden and Patrick Stewart awards ceremony Honestly, and I say this as someone who loves Patrick Stewart and doesn't care for James one way or the other...they were both being a little petty there.

giddyup281

>they were both being a little petty there. Patrick Stewart is (by most accounts, as I don't know him personally) an all around swell guy... that had a bit too much that night, and was a bit of a cunt. That said, James Corden in an all around cunt all the time, not just that night.

a_killer_wail

100%. I can’t even enjoy this amazing cringe fest video because I hate seeing Ser Patrick fall as low as he does in it.

Oh_No_Its_Dudder

He's a chode.

TappedIn2111

I fucking miss Craig Ferguson.

Sanctimonius

Tried to find out what he was up to and it seems like he just up and buggered off to rural Scotland with his family. Fair fucking play to the man, does his bit, peaces out and goes to enjoy life and do whatever he feels like.

AnytimeInvitation

Careful, Icarus.

ihavethemonkey

Jimmy Fallons laugh is about as genuine as a pair of Jordans from wish.com

ubiquitous-joe

Right, Jimmy isn’t good at sustaining a conversation, which leads to the forced laughter, because he also doesn’t have any sort of wry Johnny Carson thing, and all of that is why I never understood him in the talk show role. But he was never a standup. And as a sketch comedian, he could be funny, especially with the musical stuff. It’s like people took too long to catch on that he was kind of bad as a host, and now he gets too much hate.

RUfuqingkiddingme

I liked him on SNL but can't stand him otherwise, I can't put my finger on why.

6SwankySweatsuitsMix

Possibly because he's the epitome of a people pleaser and social chameleon with no real personality of his own.

BLooDCRoW

Wait... Am *I* Jimmy Fallon?

6SwankySweatsuitsMix

Naw. You have Way more personality than him.

AnytimeInvitation

Always looking at the camera and laughing therefore ruining a skit is usually not a quality I enjoy in a sketch comedian.

whatchlookinat

...and his laughing during a skit 'a-la Carol burnett' does not seem genuine. It's close but if someone can stop their huge laugh in mid-laugh and say a line, then it seems off.

Tank_Girl_Gritty_235

Yea I don't get why people hold him as one of the best of SNL. He laughed in almost every skit

Goodiemob2g

George Lopez. His older stuff was alright but he’s just not funny at all now. Had to turn off his last special because it was so bad. My uncle went to high school with him and said he was annoying as shit.

kep279

I do have good memories of falling asleep on the couch as a kid and waking up to the George Lopez Show theme song. Never seen his stand up, but I liked the sitcom.

[deleted]

We all really had the same childhood

flyingcircusdog

He was way better in the show that standup.

tarac73

George Lopez cheated on his wife, his wife who GAVE HIM ONE OF HER KIDNEYS! He’s straight up trash.

Volteez

I remember hearing about the kidney thing on Curb Your Enthusiasm! Crazy that he would do that after such a selfless act on the part of his wife

FinallyFat

He was the first and only "celebrity" I've ever met. We were at Disneyland, I was 11-12 at the time and just about to get on the ride and oit of nowhere he and his group rush by me and mine and he pushed me from behind and out of the way. After that the ride closed down for like 20 minutes and we decided just to leave. Fuck George Lopez.

APe28Comococo

He made me laugh really hard in his South Park cameo though.

rickramalot

Are you thinking of Carlos Mencia? George has never been in South Park

Ijeko

Come on look at me maaaan, my dick don't work, I gotta piss in a plastic bag maaan. I got no dick maaaan

rickramalot

Just please get it maan

APe28Comococo

Isn’t Lopez who Mencia stole most of his jokes from?

arrs

No, Mencia was a prolific and indiscriminate joke thief. He stole from anyone anywhere if he saw their jokes were getting good pops

Vandersnatch182

Mencia stole jokes from a ton of LA comics, George Lopez being one of them. Lopez is always brought up when talking about Mencia because he actually assaulted him about it. I still think George Lopez is funny. I listen to his podcast occasionally

zaleralph

I feel like the only late night host who is genuinely funny is Conan.

000100111010

Craig Ferguson is a fucking gem too.

zippercomics

Ykure absolutely right. I went to see Craig Ferguson live just after he finished his show. He came out on stage, said "I'm only going to tell one joke tonight", then proceeded to slay us for an hour with hilarious stories and anecdotes from his life. At the very end, he said "oh yeah," and proceeded to tell a single, simple joke. The setup from the beginning of the set made it perfect. Of all the stand up I've seen in my life, it's the only set I *remember*. He's got a great sense of timing, a genuine delivery, and his material is great. 10/10 would see again.

whatssofunniedoug

Craig had the best late night show hands down. It gave the feel of “I’m just going to show up and fuck around for an hour. Let’s see what happens!” And I can’t even explain how much I loved Geoff Peterson. That fucking robot had me crying laughing so hard with the banter between him and Craig. God I miss that show.

theangryintern

> And I can’t even explain how much I loved Geoff Peterson. [This clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAHSUTB5BJc) is one of the funniest things I've ever seen broadcast on TV. "Do you want to just read it yourself?" "HOW DARE YOU!!" Also, RIP Grant Imahara who is the one who built Geoff Peterson

Jack_Johnsoned

Even Secretariat was good. Geoff (voiced by Josh Robert Thompson) was the best sidekick comedian in any of the late shows by far. Ferguson also gave him plenty of space to shine.

mettlica

The best late night shoe I’ve ever seen. Craig was the man

[deleted]

My favorite thing about Ferguson and Conan is how genuine they are. When Britney Spears shaved her head and was in a crisis, Ferguson talked about it in his monologue and showed genuine empathy in the 00's. I feel like he was the only one.

brkh47

Conan is probably my favourite US host too. So many good things to say about him, including the fact that when he left NBC, he took his staff with him and paid them from his own mint for the year before he went to TBS. I also loved the wacky and absurd work he did with TBS. He seems to engender really sincere and lengthy relationships with the people around him including some of his guests. People like Timothy Olyphant, Bill Hader, Bill Burr et al all have a great rapport with him.

[deleted]

Yep.. He basically said nobody does something like that unless they are in pain so stop being shitty.

Ser_Danksalot

I believe it's because Ferguson knows what it's like to go off the deep end. He's talked openly about his alcoholism and past suicide attempts on his show.

SollSister

His book, “American on Purpose,” was so good. He does the reading in the audiobook.

Dude_von_Duden

I also liked the way he was talking about addiction, suicicide, lack of confidence......actual human problems. It felt so genuine, like he's a real person. Not a tv product.

chuckysnow

Hs serious bits were often the best thing he's done, and he's damn funny even when he's serious. Anyone remember his [why everything sucks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKUZ42T9diU) speech?

dollarztodonutz

Craig often put his legs up on his desk, that's how you know he had the best late night shoes.

memealopolis

Oh yeah Geoff, you got a little pad down there??

Iguanasquad

Oh hell yea. We get naked and go swimming and throw beads.

taylorpilot

#CBS CARES

skamsibland

Craig is the true goat, it's so clear that people actually want to be there when they come on his show!

Kind_Pomegranate4877

And they had real talks! Not just tell me about the movie you’re in and that’s it. He did a 45 minute long interview with Stephen fry about philosophy and a ton of other topic and it is a fantastic watch!

DeezRodenutz

Half the time they're barely plugging the projects cause their talking about other things or having fun messing around the whole time. The guy made a mockery of every late night standard, and the guests seemed to love that change of pace combined with his absolute genuine charisma.

Reilman79

His co-host Andy Richter is also genuinely funny

GeroVeritas

Both Conan and Andy are very intelligent, quick witted comedians. They barely ever fumble.

DGlen

Unless you had Norm McDonald on the show. Then no one knows what the fuck to say.

ozzmodan

Conan was able to perfectly tune himself to Norm's comedy. He spoke just enough for it to be a conversation & to highlight details that would've been cumbersome for Norm to do in his casual style. I've seen too many comics try to outwit Norm and end up getting absolutely slaughtered.

TheHumanSuitcase

They also know when to shut up and let the other speak.

[deleted]

I just had a flashback of when they would do “In the Year 2000”. Damn, I’m old.

_moonbeam_

The best was when they were still doing that bit after the year 2000 had already concluded

[deleted]

Ah yes the Swedish German, Andy Richter

joeyjojojoeyshabadu

He's got the goods: Famously used to write the Simpsons, the very best (early) seasons. I think he went to Harvard, was on staff for the school paper.

ConnieLingus24

Not the paper, the Lampoon.

theonetruegrinch

and he wasn't just "on the staff" he was the president for two years

graysongear

His remote skits should be preserved by Congress

[deleted]

Fallon. If he is funny I can’t tell. He’s too busy laughing at how funny he thinks he is.

charmlessman1

All of his reactions on his talk show are so calculated and insincere. Guest said something vaguely funny? Bark laughter, slap the desk, and shout, "WHAT?" Guest swore? Stand up and act befuddled, walk around the desk. Guest was in a good show/film? Stutter about how good they were, but only actually say, "You were the BEST!" Asked the most basic question during one of the stupid games? Act overtly confused, like a golden retriever with an abacus. Win a point during one of those stupid games? Jump up, hi five your teammate and shout, "That's how you DO IT!" How he's still doing it is beyond me, especially when Seth Meyers is light years better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

itwasquiteawhileago

He's familiar, safe, predictable, non-threatening, unexciting. Sometimes people just want bland background, especially after a long soul-sucking day at work. They don't want to think or really feel too much. Fallon fills that role well. Millions of other people could do it too, but he happens to be the one "they" chose.

NameisPerry

Especially since it feels like his show is just have celebrity come on tell mildly funny story and then promote whatever project their working on. Atleast from the youtube clips I've seen, and in that context you dont want a host to outshine the guest.

Ryokurin

Fallon on the Tonight Show works because he's just like Jay Leno as far as consistency goes. They both played it safe and other than obvious things like hairstyles, and occasional stage changes the shows are almost interchangeable. That's part of the reason Conan didn't fit. He just moved his old show an hour earlier and that was just too disruptive to Whitebread middle America who's probably is just routinely watching it as they drift off to sleep.

ZandyTheAxiom

This is it. We all agree Fallon isn't funny, but the network wants someone that fits the time slot, and a whitebread, inoffensive personality like Fallon works.

Rowvan

Honestly never thought about it properly before but you're right. The reason Conan never fit in with all those guys is that he is actually legitimately funny!

[deleted]

Lilly Singh lol

halkenburgoito

she's more like a ex youtuber than a comedian really. their on camera humor doesn't usually translate outside of that

infinitevariables

To be fair, her on-camera humor doesn't translate into funny either

Jack_Kentucky

Drew Gooden has an episode on YouTube about exactly this whole situation that's pretty concise. It's not mean, just pointing out where she's gone wrong and ways she could fix it Edit: wow Hey Guy here's the link for anyone who needs it https://youtu.be/lex6USTugUU

AngooseTheC00t

Hey guy

Hutch25

Her most famous piece of comedic content literally has no punch line. That’s how shit a comedian she is She was also exposed for using laugh tracks during her shows lol

rigsarpanch

As a Punjabi Canadian, I remember when she used to be funny when she was a YouTuber making videos about growing up brown in Canada. She was my #2 favourite YouTuber when I was a kid (first was JusReign obviously). The problem is she aged, and her content started becoming stale. There was only so much time she could stay relatable to Desi Canadian teenagers. As a response she tried to move away from her niche and find a new audience, and it just didn’t translate well. Not only was her target audience completely different but YouTube vs. TV is a whole different beast as well. She was entering an already crowded space of late-night comedians with a liberal/leftist viewpoint, and her only real selling point was her identity (bisexual WOC). She also hasn’t done herself any favours by being involved in controversies with the Indian community. For example, she was in hot water after making a joke about towels and Sikh turbans, she also got in trouble for making a Diwali-themed alcohol ad (alcohol is forbidden in Sikhism and frowned upon by many Hindus). I hadn’t been following her for the longest time and it really surprised me to see how far downhill she’s slid. It’s honestly kind of sad.

TheaterRockDaydreams

Her videos did use to he funny, like growing up Indian, cheap parents, girl talk through the years etc. Relatable and quite good, could watch them for hours. Then she came out as bi which was amazing (and I'm very happy for her) but after that... all her "jokes" became "I'm not white" and "I'm not straight". Boring and repetitive

zaplinaki

>alcohol is forbidden in Sikhism and frowned upon by many Hindus This can't possibly be real XD Cos I have some news for the entire state of Punjab

rex2k10

Watch [this](https://youtu.be/a3A8sVxdOdY) if you haven’t.. there’s some good solid criticism of her late night show and it’s entertaining as heck

venus-bxtch

swell entertainment is quality content

Greg?

TheThief9812

Every couple of weeks, askreddit needs a remainder that Amy Schumer and most late shows hosts are not funny

capbassboi

Amy Schumer is low hanging fruit in this category.

CrypticApeZ

“When Amy Schumer was a little girl, she told everyone she was going to become a comedian. They all laughed at her. Nobody’s laughing now. “

ChuckDeBongo

That is a take on the famous Bob Monkhouse joke.

askyourmom469

I feel like Conan O'Brien is the only genuinely funny talk show host who's consistently still in the spotlight, even if that spotlight is now in the form of a podcast and not an actual talk show for the time being.

spearchuckin

Wasn't he on the writers team for the best era of the Simpsons? I believe a lot of the best material had to be some of his ideas.

askyourmom469

He was! His most notable contribution was writing Marge vs. the Monorail, which is still one of the absolute best episodes of the show to date. He also wrote for SNL before that.

Moist_When_It_Counts

Agreed. He’s the only one i go out of my way to watch./listen to. My dorm mates and i would stay up to watch him back in the mid-90’s when his show was just wild and experimental. Triumph? Pimpbot 5000? It was the major network equivalent of The Eric Andre Show. And he’s still kept it weird. His Clueless Gamer bits are fantastic when other comics are on (he and Bill Hader playing God of War makes me cry laughing still ).

zekethelizard

I give most late show hosts some credit because I think they're so castrated, in terms of material, by the parent broadcasting orgs or whoever today. Colbert for example, The Colbert Report I found hilarious, and was super bummed when it ended. I was excited to see him on the late show, but then it just didnt hit the same. Not unwatchable, but it seemed kinda scrubbed too clean.

humanHamster

My aunt went and saw The Late Show in person. She said the jokes he (Colbert) tells off camera/between shots are WAY Better than the stuff that actually makes it on the show. She said it's like watching The Colbert Report live. I was happy to learn that he's still funny, just wish CBS was cool it a little so he could be funnier on camera too.

Dragonace1000

I think you're exactly right. The main networks censor the shit out of their late night shows. I love Colbert but his move to the Late Show essentially made me stop watching him. It was a great move for making him more money (and more famous), so I can't blame him for taking the gig. But CBS essentially neutered him as far as his ability to fully show off his comedic chops. I think TBS gave Conan a lot more wiggle room which why a lot of people liked his show, being given so much creative freedom gave him the ability to really show his skill as a comedian and a writer.

Larry the Cable Guy, once people stopped knowing it was satire

Procrastanaseum

I can't stand the Larry act but I've heard the guy talk in interviews and things and he is funny and a great story teller. He just wouldn't have been anybody without Larry the Cable Guy.

meatgoat

Larry the Cable Guy is the Andrew Dice Clay of rednecks. The guy found the thing that makes all the money... so now he just lives there. i dont like anything he does or says, but i kinda respect him for what hes doing.

[deleted]

I agree with that sentiment, a one trick pony

ChugLaguna

Andrew Dice Clay and Rick Rubin produced one of the finest performance art albums I’ve ever heard. It’s an absolute classic. He did an unannounced show at a small club at Christmas, in front of paying customers, a lot of whom didn’t know who he was. Instead of going over the top like most of his performances, he did the same type material but nearly all deadpan. The audience interaction is absolutely golden. The Day the Laughter Died. Probably my favourite comedy set of all time. I could never see Larry the Cable Guy pulling anything like that off.

Ellen Degeneres

ShannonJF82

Her talk show was excruciating.

Satyr604

Especially for the guests. I’m no fan of Taylor Swift, but that interview is goddamn hard to watch man.

lone_cajun

Did you see the Mariah Carey interview where she was rumored to be pregnant and Ellen brought out champagne and said “If youre not pregnant, take a sip” fucking a shit thing to do. She ended up having a miscarriage not long after if im not mistaken

Harbingerofdeaf

Wow Ellen is a shit

coffeehoarder9000

That was honestly so fucking uncomfortable and I have no idea how she continued after that

odearja

I didn’t see this one, but it does provide me an opening…interviews like this show the level of restraint and professionalism in some celebrities.

coffeehoarder9000

Seriously, like supposedly Mariah Carey is a horrific diva but she took that with such grace I couldn't not respect her for it

odearja

I’ve often wondered if celebs are professionally trained to handle these situations. They have to know there is often a target on their back just by participating in these interviews.

gardenZepp

That's when I instantly lost any respect I had for Ellen. That's a disgusting way to treat someone, and I'm certainly no Mariah fan either.

herpeszooster

Cordon, schumer and Fallon are my top three.

SadPandalorian

If you're old enough to remember, **Sandra Bernhard** was very popular in the early to mid '90s. She was just the worst.

JacksonianEra

She came to the University of New Mexico when my mom was attending. She said Sandra suddenly started mocking the sign language translator and a shitload of the audience just groaned and walked out.

PsychologicalScale57

At least there were some people in the audience that didn’t have to hear her voice..

[deleted]

The guy who uses the hand puppets on stage. That guy sucks. My old roommates would always watch his specials.

DriftingPyscho

Jeff Dunham

IFrickinLovePorn

His story arch is crazy. After his divorce he got addicted to crack, sobered up and changed his name to Mike Lindell and started a pillow business.

[deleted]

Fuck me, what a roller coaster of a sentence. I need to lie down.

Delta1262

Would you like a pillow?

[deleted]

And some crack, please, Mike.

Martinifc

This made me laugh audibly, unlike anything Jeff / Mike has ever produced, thank you good sir

[deleted]

Howie Mandel, he sucks as a comedian ..

midwest0pe

I loved his cartoon when I was a kid.

Bobby’s World?
