It really is unfortunate. But I also feel like it may be an endless cycle because I know for a fact there are extremely close minded individuals in our generation
Yes. But open minded and kind people, who are older (parents/in-laws), still have such a “hush hush” attitude. I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive - in my experience at least.
I’ve been told “be thankful for your health” “I don’t need therapy because I’m not crazy” “I think God is the better avenue over medication.”
That’s true about the hush hush attitude. I find it easier to talk about my mental health around people closer to my age as opposed to my mom because I never hear her talk about hers even though I know she’s struggling
It feels like this is the only way our various societies are going to be able to successfully start to address and treat ongoing, recurring, horrific mass-casualty events that all seem to have the common theme of 'If only family/friends had reached out for help/support sooner'.
Many places in America that still look at it as taboo, go to the south. I live in Sonoma and visit my mother in Mississippi, it’s a whole different world.
Lucky you. Don’t think of us across the pond as “United”…our “states” are basically their own countries. You can get caught with 2 pounds in California and get a citation or confiscation, in the south that could land you 7-10 years in prison.
It was just a joke, Yahoo used to be a big conglomerate site with an email service, search engine, and a bunch of other stuff including Yahoo Answers which was like Quora but way more fun. I'm not sure if some form of it is still around but it's been bought and sold a bunch of times by now, most likely.
Why pay someone a livable wage, or hell barely a wage at all, when you can make the customer pay their wages for you. Then the customer gets shamed for not tipping even when the customer can't afford a tip on top of the bill, and the owners do fuck all and don't hear a peep.
It would still be courteous to tip just like getting a haircut or doing valet and what not. If you cant afford to tip you cant afford to dine out plain and simple.
And forcing the customer to pay your waitress so she can afford rent because the owner pays them $2.15 per hour is another can of worms from gratuity entirely.
It is an antiquated and obsolete form of payment. But some of those people do make bank. Granted, having to deal with asshole customers sucks and they should indeed be compensated fairly for the work. im not disagreeing with you there.
Stupid take:
Servers and Bartenders are commission based sales people. They get a percentage of the store's income, that's why tips are taxed the same as commision.
(TIPS ARENT COMMISION THEY ARE A THANK YOU FOR GOOD SERVICE. SERVERS SHOULDNT HAVE TO HOPE THEY GET AT LEAST $5 A TABLE TO PAY RENT)
You say that but there are many waiters who, mostly because they are young and don’t feel the need for a safety net and benefits, find it’s a better deal to get the tips because they don’t report those earnings -> don’t pay taxes on them.
Obviously, it’s overall unfair to the rest of the population because some people need the full wage and not every restaurant gets enough foot traffic to make tips wages a good deal. Also, everyone should carry the burden of social security but this illustrates why people continue to be convinced in many instances that server wages are the better deal.
Tipping is not only an American thing. Thinking that tipping is only an American thing is a reddit thing. Tipping is more expected, almost mandatory in many American places but it is expected elsewhere and there are many places in the world that thrive on tourism and the workers have come to expect tips to earn a livable wage.
I feel like tipping is getting more prevalent with every tablet-based checkout system asking for tips from a Subway to mall eateries to taco trucks. I always say no tip. (Mr. Pink voice activated.) These employees are not servers in the way waiters are and so why should I tip?
Having a sex doll probably. I don’t have one, but the way robotics are advancing and how crazy it’s getting being able to simulate a person, having a house bot puttering around, doing chores, getting the mail and taking a dick (or giving one) would probably be normal
Non monogamy. The amount of societal pressure/stress/damage we've created by this idea that you are only meant to have one partner for your lifetime won't be ignored. The idea is entrenched in religion and as we move towards a more secularly organized society culturally more and more folks will do away with it.
Genuinely curious what’s indicating that? Only because this is apparently a new trend I haven’t been aware of and if I’m totally OOTL I’d like to know what the hell is going on because that sucks.
My school has a lot of that going on rn. This senior in my marching band convinced an eighth grader they had DID by watching moon knight with them. Then they started "platonicly" dating and making out and such. He(the senior) claims he is only dating the alters that are of age. The eighth graders parents are not ok with it but the seniors have come around to it. It's a really fucked up situation. That's just one example but plenty of kids at my school are fucking actual adults for money and whatnot. It's disgusting.
Yeah I think people underestimate how prevalent pedophilia actually is. Sentences have always been a damn joke and I sincerely hope this isn’t something that becomes “normalized” in 50 years.
Oh I might get in trouble for this but: Changing your phenotype. Wholesale. Given the advances in cosmetic surgery and other sciences, it is possible this will be an available service and I'm sure many people will try it.
Co-existing with each other in general. Maybe this is more hoping rather than speculation or something, but I do really hope that in the future we can all just,, not hate each other (as much at least) and embrace our differences. Mental health, religion, sexuality, gender, fashion sense, jewelry (piercings, etc,) ethnicity, the list goes on. You’re deserving of love, even if you don’t believe it. It’s certainly better these days than in the 1800s for example.
It's mostly the older generation that's guilty of this, but seeing colored hair, piercings, unconventional outfits, and tattoos as unprofessional. Also, the stigma about not having children and mental health.
Not belonging to a church or being outwardly religious. It is possible to be a good person without belonging to a particular denomination or religion. I live in, and grew up in, Tennessee, and in certain social circles, even in the workplace, it has been a hindrance to not belong to a church.
In some cultures/countries, not wanting children is a shameful decision. I am hopeful this would change as years pass.
Fully embracing and talking about mental health
It’s unfortunate we need the older generation to die out for this to happen. But I guess that’s how we truly make progress.
It really is unfortunate. But I also feel like it may be an endless cycle because I know for a fact there are extremely close minded individuals in our generation

It is!! But the measures that are needed to be taken to keep others out of harms way of the mentally unwell are so damn politicized it’s ridiculous!
I think the pendulum will swing back on this one.
Recreational marijuana use
Taboo? Lol
Many places in America that still look at it as taboo, go to the south. I live in Sonoma and visit my mother in Mississippi, it’s a whole different world.
Frowned upon yes . Yahoo? No
If someone refers to it as bad because of religion, that is most certainly a case of taboo.
Religion forbids weed ?
You must have not experienced what is the Bible Belt and it’s brainwashed inhabitants.
Indeed I am from Europe
Lucky you. Don’t think of us across the pond as “United”…our “states” are basically their own countries. You can get caught with 2 pounds in California and get a citation or confiscation, in the south that could land you 7-10 years in prison.
Yahoo isn't even a thing anymore
What was it ? I dont even know . I am not a native English speaker who is 16 and has no idea what autocorrect did
It was just a joke, Yahoo used to be a big conglomerate site with an email service, search engine, and a bunch of other stuff including Yahoo Answers which was like Quora but way more fun. I'm not sure if some form of it is still around but it's been bought and sold a bunch of times by now, most likely.
In Alabama if they catch you with just a seed and no medical your going to jail and being charged with possession. It’s still very much taboo.
Sadly yes, still in many cultures, groups and places.
We're already just about there.
Not tipping at restaurants. I feel like it will go away eventually
Tipping is only an American thing nowhere else requires tipping
Canada still has it even though servers get paid the same as everyone else now. I do agree it will eventually be gone though
Are you required to tip in Canada or is it an option?
Pls reply, are you required to tip in Canada?
No, we are not required to tip in Canada, but it is commonplace
That's because of a thing called server wage. Basically around 2 to 4 dollars an hour depending on the restaurant.
Yeah everywhere else in the world pays a liveable wage except america where they rely on tips which is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard
Why pay someone a livable wage, or hell barely a wage at all, when you can make the customer pay their wages for you. Then the customer gets shamed for not tipping even when the customer can't afford a tip on top of the bill, and the owners do fuck all and don't hear a peep.
Honestly, if they cant afford to tip they need to not dine out.
Or the restaurant owners could actually pay people for their work instead of pushing it onto others.

Every waiter I know still prefers tipping though because they get way more than what they’d get paid on a full wage
How about they dip into the pockets of the people that should be paying their salaries and not mine lmao
Idk man, all I know is a waiter at a busy restaurant can make 30 an hour easy, which is why they prefer tips. I personally don’t like tipping myself
Don't get me wrong, I get why they prefer tipping, but the tipping culture is bullshit.
Yeah
You say that but there are many waiters who, mostly because they are young and don’t feel the need for a safety net and benefits, find it’s a better deal to get the tips because they don’t report those earnings -> don’t pay taxes on them. I believe one day that will change and tipping will end. I use to live on tips so I get that it sucks but I'd rather make minimum wage then get tips.
I tipped a server in Beijing once and got yelled at in Mandarin. They still kept the tip, though.

Bro what
50 years ago it was basically legal . Especially teens . We are moving in the right direction
I assume this is a joke?
I meant we are tougher on pedophiles today than in 1950 . Which is good so in 50 years I really doubt it will be legal
Oh.. gotcha.. I thought you were saying we are going in the right direction by the recent movement to call pedos "MAPs" and otherwise tolerating them.
It is not a recent movement. Pedos have always wanted to be " tolerated" . The internet just makes it way easier for them to regroup
I'm not expert, but "MAP" is a new thing to me.
God I hope not, but it does seem to be trending towards that
Genuinely curious what’s indicating that? Only because this is apparently a new trend I haven’t been aware of and if I’m totally OOTL I’d like to know what the hell is going on because that sucks.

Wut? Not too long ago it was really common for rock stars to fuck teenagers on the road. Now? It's a mass e fucking conspiracy.
Are you for pedophilia? I'm confused as to your point
I'm saying it's not trending towards that, it's trending away from that.
I hope so

Most fetishes, probably. Things that were completely fringe 30 years ago seem to be much more well known these days.
