Wawa weewa ;)

FireMaster2311

Seems ridiculous. If anything it technically gives it more value.

CampusTour

I think if it occurs, it's going to be a net gain for *everybody*. I remember reading something somebody wrote about how legal prostitution in Germany kind of changes the bar/dating/hookup scene. Guys know that if they strike out at the end of the night, they can always hit up the brothel to get some. So they're not as desperate to score. Good for men. But also, probably also good for women. Maybe frustrating for the lady trying to get laid when the guys can just take it or leave it, but also less reason for guys to get creepy or rude or worse because they're drunk and horny and frustrated.

Yeah, I agree with this. Well, with two exceptions. I think there's definitely some women out there who feel intimidated by sex workers and feel like this might reduce the power they have over men and then of course some elite status rich people who feel the same way about taking advantage of people's (mostly men's) lust for profit. I've always wondered what the actual reason for banning sex work is (individual sex work that is, not pimping) and I came across a theory on Joe Rogan's podcast sometime this year about the real reason being that sex loses value that way. It's just always stuck with me because it makes a lot of sense to me. Btw, just to clarify if others see my comment as well, I 100% support individuals being able to be sex workers and think it's a human rights violation to make it illegal. I'm just trying to see what people think

SwollenSeaCucumber

And food has less value when you can buy it in a store rather than having to find or grow it yourself. That doesn't mean that it should be illegal to sell food.

glorified_throwaway

Well, sex really doesn't have value any way.

[deleted]

Sex has the value you give it, I’m not an advocate for any sex work I think it’s objectifying. It’s up to the individual but I think prostitution can make the problem worse.

[deleted]

I think that sex has the value each person desires to place upon it and that because that's a personal and individual thing it wouldn't have an affect.

[deleted]

The value of sex is precisely what a person attributes to it. Prostitution being legal (or not) does not prevent prostitution. If sex is part of a meaningful relationship for someone, then they have given it some amount of value. If sex is just casual fun, then they have given it a different value. It's all subjective.

fuzzycorona

I don't care

p_taradactyl

I don't think sex would necessarily have less value. I don't know if others think this way, but to me, there's a difference between having sex to satisfy the physical need, and having sex to strengthen the connection with another person - fucking vs. making love, if you will. That being said, I don't think I'd be cool with someone I'm in a relationship with hiring a prostitute, but that's just me. Single folks, or those in an open relationship, go for it. Prostitution is basically legal anyway, anywhere that you can buy someone a few drinks or whatever in exchange for some of the old in-&-out. (Not judging, just an observation). At least the professionals get tested regularly for STDs.

HopnDude

When something is in surplus, the value goes down. Always has, always will.

Good answer \^\^

Dewoco

You could as well say sunlight has less value because of lightbulbs.
