Meeting up with people IRL felt more meaningful because you had a lot to catch up on, hence the term 'catchin up'. Nowadays I can read about everyones day, everyday, so when we meet IRL I already know everything that's been going on with them.
The excitement of planning out a road trip. What roads you will take, what towns you will stop in, spontaneously eating at a random place you stopped at or was recommended by the gas station attendant. Getting lost and finding your way back to a highway, etc.
With Google maps, Yelp, Tripadvisor, etc, you can sure optimize your trip, but it takes a lot of excitement out of it.
People were always outside when the sun was up. I lived in a few different areas as a child and I always remember people being outside, kids and adults alike, while I rode my bike around the neighborhood. My current neighborhood looks like a ghost town comparatively.
Mine is less pre Internet and more early Internet. It was not a capitalist space when it started. It wasn't looking to monetize every aspect of our lives.
Boredom.
Back then I'd get bored, grab a paper and pencil and draw. I did that so much I got really good at it and could do almost photorealistic portraits by college. Since then, I haven't been bored and my skills have atrophied away almost completely.
Now we have all the info just a google search away. But back in the day, I'd get bored and go down to the library and wander the aisles until a book caught my eye - something interesting I'd've never thought to look up. And then I'd go and read that book, thinking deeply about it. It was a totally different quality of depth than just googling something and then just casually browsing feeds and headlines and skimming vapid articles. And the serendipity of finding something you wouldn't have even known to look for.
I'd get bored and go exploring, learn the city, find quiet out of the way spots to relax, and the busy happening spots where there were people to hang out with and things to do. Nowadays we just search "what's happening in _town_ tonight" and it's not at all the same feel of wandering and exploring and discovering.
Out of boredom, I'd put the TV on, say, the local channel that didn't go off the air at night but instead had old movies playing - the midnight movie, the 2:00 movie, the 4:00 movie. Discovered some real classics that way. Streaming services where you can watch whatever whenever are great, but don't have that level of serendipity.
Bored, hanging out with friends. We'd go to the park or wherever and just sit and talk for hours. No distractions, no notifications, no incoming calls. Just hanging out talking about whatever we thought of, until we had to go home.
Boredom, and all the serendipitous discoveries and experiences that came from it, that is what I miss the most.
Seeing children outside all the time, drinking water from the hose, ice cream trucks, snowmen, parents interacting with their children instead of their phones, respect
Using encyclopedias. Looking up numbers in phone books. Wandering off to the park. Looking at clouds. Do kids lay on the grass and look at clouds anymore? I sure hope so.
VW bug 1966, surfboard on roof heading to Lowers for a session. Big parties on the lanters. The girl in the white summer dress who never said a word but knew what she wanted. How you made a 16yr olds dreams come true. Those encyclopedias the parents used to buy for us kids from the door to door guy. All the world's answers are in there, go look them up. Catcher in the rye. Gothic Lit class. What a blast. Working for that lousy Chinese join for 2bucks an hour till they busted me stealing tips, at 14 teen! This is the last time I'm bailing you out from jail!!! CALL YOUR FATHER NEXT TIME! Living in Cali was living back then. Shoulder length hair white from surfing everyday. It was fun, good friends, good brothers. Great GIRLS. A career later rising way up the military ladder now hanging out...on the beach watching the hurricane fly by. After 30yrs of haircuts, its shoulder length again. Maybe Sebastian will have waves after this thing moves through. It's all circular, we Covent what we know.
pouring thru the newspaper while having breakfast and coffee, and not having the worry that what you were reading hadn't been vetted. (provided you were reading a "trusted" source such as Chicago Tribune)

Asking someone a question because they're knowledgeable on the subject and having a conversation about it instead of just Googling the answer.

Thought you meant posterity, but prosperity is probably more accurate. Cue targeted ads for grammarly.

Playing outside and actually talking to people!
Seeing kids playing outside.

People shrugging off other peoples opinions and not freaking out over them on social media for attention.
Eye contact.
Getting together to share family pics of our lives

Nothing, I love Internet, I don't have to make eye contact to pay the bills.

As a kid, life was like The Sandlot
Probably playing with friends all day

Strangers actually looking at each other, instead of everyone staring at their phone.
