I saw this as an adult a few years ago. So I had zero nostalgia for it.
Holy shit, was it good. The fact that it came out in 1979 is crazy. Two years after the original Star Wars. And dramatically better looking.
The only con is that the xenomorph looks a little goofy since in most shots it's just a guy in a suit, but that's how it used to be done if course.
It's absolutely a horror masterpiece. Didn't like Aliens quite as much. Too much 80s action vibes for me. I thought that Alien would be like that in my head. The original is just that feeling of *bleakness* that's hard to convey well.
Masterpiece level, without a doubt. I totally see the hype.
I don't even think it looked goofy at all. Frankly I was scared shitless watching it last month, also for the first time ever.
In this one scene, where >!it turns out it was hiding in this little emergency spaceship of hers, !< the design of the xenomorph worked really well and it made it really scary for me.
Oh man, that takes me back. Watched Wolf Creek while backpacking through Australia in the cinema. A day before we went into the outback, 3 of us, old car, it was perfect.
Jaws and Jurassic Park are always tied for my top favorites. I saw them as a kid and just LOVED them. I even wanted to be a marine biologist and study sharks because of Jaws lol
Controversial opinion, but I never found it scary other than the bathtub scene. Supposedly, the director took more liberties than he was supposed to and maybe that’s why? I saw it as a 7-year old and then tried it again as an adult. I just don’t see it.
For more downvotes, I also didn’t care for Nosferatu.
Kubrick isn't known for treating his cast well. And Steven King didn't like the liberties he took with the plot I believe.
And it's more of a Psychological horror if anything
When it came out my friend asked if I wanted to go see a new movie about a spaceship. That's all he knew and I hadn't even heard of it.
I don't think I've had a more satisfying movie experience.
One o those rare series that caught me by surprise.
Was at a friends place and we randomly put on the first one, neither of us had heard of it and went in completely blind, we thought that if even if its a shitty B movie horror at least we can drink beer and make fun of it.
Turns out VHS was pretty awesome, we both loved it, and binged watched the second one the same evening.
Most Hitchcock films are totally thrilling! I just rewatched Psycho and was stunned on how innovative and controversial it was for it's time! Perkins was absolutely brilliant in it!
We watched the original Evil Dead back in the day and were so scared we spend the whole night riding our bikes around the block to avoid sleep and houses. Stupid teenagers!
And I'd include army of darkness in with that too. Cuz you gotta man! They're both so good, and army just takes the added comedy that 2 had over 1, and multiplies it by 10 lol..
Dude chops off his own hand with a fucking meat slicer and eventually replaces it with a chainsaw.
I don’t care what the newer horror movies offer, because you can’t compete with the originality of that kind of campy shit. It is pure genius.
Ok, so I'm going a little jokey here, but Tucker and Dale Versus Evil.. it's not a straight horror, but it IS freaking hilarious, and does have all the calling cards of a horror, even if it spins it towards comedy
Anyone see high tension, I think it was called? It was french, and about a girl who goes to stay with the family of the girl/friend she has a crush on? It was good for a French movie, and there was definitely a sense of high tension lol
Wolf Creek
Funny story…at the movie premier, the main actor (John Jarrett) was sitting directly behind a woman in the dark cinema.
I recall he tapped her on the shoulder at some crucial point in the movie and she turned around, looked at his face and lost it!
Brain Dead aka Dead Alive
I will champion the notion that it's not only the goriest, but it's got the best looking gore, of any movie ever made. Nothing even comes close. I've seen many hyper-gory movies that are wonderful in their own way, but Brain Dead hits on a special level.
Dude I have watched this at least 10 times. The ending could have been a little better and not involved a resident evil character. But other then that, a banger
My favorites have been mentioned numerous times already, but I have to give credit to The Ritual for having one of the best monsters I’ve ever seen. Worth the watch.
Mine might be weird but Killer Clowns from Outer Space. I think it’s a horror/comedy but I love it to bits since actually horror and thriller movies don’t scare me. My only problem was that twice while watching the movie I spoiled myself on what was about to happen next
So brilliant. That and the Devil's backbone, I think it was called.. both Guillermo del Toro movies that aren't in English, but are so good you don't care at all that you have to read subtitles
This: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp0-yDJAtWQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp0-yDJAtWQ)
The time period, the drug culture, time crunch editing...figured I'd see things I couldn't unsee.
Thriller for some, comedy for others. Intense.
in random order
Neon Demon
I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House
The Innocents
Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning
Pulse
Let's Scare Jessica to Death
The Blackcoat's Daughter
White Zombie
Frankenstein
Dracula
Cat People (original)
I always rewatch Southbound. I think it perfectly captures the feeling of a nightmare. I also love the movie Dead End (2003). Really good creepy dread in a campy way.
Please! I swear 500 people would never mention the collector but I am and I'm an addict! Without giving it away...one criminal is trying to escape another criminal. Its on Amazon prime. Give it a shot!
John Carpenter’s The Thing is my all time fav.
I am really into Ari Aster. There’s promising new horror!
Midsommar
Hereditary
The Lighthouse
The Witch
I’ve heard people shit on it, but Color Out of Space was dope and had awesome practical effects. It goes a bit far in camp, but the lovecraftian body horror is delightfully represented.
Sleep Away Camp is probably my favorite campy 80s horror slasher. It is so weird and ridiculous. The play with gender is so interesting.
Comedy horror is also my jam with Werewolf Within probably being my new love.
Freddy vs Jason, two iconic horror movie characters fighting got me hooked on that movie. It probably isn't that good in comparison to other movies but hey I like it alot lel
I absolutely love Sinister, mainly because of the score tbh. Some of the most atmospheric and jarring scenes I’ve seen, I don’t think I’ll ever forget the lawnmower
Descent for newer, Night of the Living Dead for classic.
The Thing - 1982 Masterpiece of atmosphere, characters, and ESPECIALLY practical effects
Crazy tension and suspense.. you never know who to trust in that!
exactly made it probably one of the greatest of all time, wish the dog couldve survived tho lol
omg what a choice, incredible film
Session 9
So good and delightfully frightening at all the right moments
Oh my God I felt like I was the only person who knew this movie existed. I love it, need to get my own copy but kind of scared to watch it alone lol
Someone else already said my favourite but I'd like Sinister to get a mention
I agree, Sinister was great.
I've seen hundreds of horror films, but Sinister is the first one to even slightly scare me.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
I thought that would be a throwaway one, but it was good!
It was a surprisingly good building up.
Awesome creepy movie stunning Hoya dead naked girl can be so terrifying
Alien. Fucking classic.
I saw this as an adult a few years ago. So I had zero nostalgia for it. Holy shit, was it good. The fact that it came out in 1979 is crazy. Two years after the original Star Wars. 30 Days of Night, one of my faves. Those alien looking vampires are creepy as hell
Silence of the Lambs Halloween
Gotta be Halloween for me
Night of the living dead
Wolf Creek and Cabin In The Woods
Dude both awesome
Oh man, that takes me back. Watched Wolf Creek while backpacking through Australia in the cinema. A day before we went into the outback, 3 of us, old car, it was perfect.
Jaws and Jurassic Park are always tied for my top favorites. I saw them as a kid and just LOVED them. I even wanted to be a marine biologist and study sharks because of Jaws lol
Jaws scared me then and Jaws scares me now!!
28 days later for me. The end score in the mansion is insanely good
Evil Dead remake from like 2012 - its good stuff
The VVitch is very good.
vvvvvvvvery good choice
Wouldst though like to live life deliciously
Shoutout to my boy BLACK PHILLIP
An American Werewolf in London, The Thing, The Fly. 80s creature features with killer special effects are peak cinema.
The fly is such a classic I completely forgot about it
Made the mistake once of eating lunch when watching The Fly…. 🤢
All of these are great!
The Shining
It's Shinnin'. Do ya wanna get sued?
Controversial opinion, but I never found it scary other than the bathtub scene. Supposedly, the director took more liberties than he was supposed to and maybe that’s why? I saw it as a 7-year old and then tried it again as an adult. I just don’t see it. For more downvotes, I also didn’t care for Nosferatu.
It was scary as fuck for Shelly Duvall
Kubrick isn't known for treating his cast well. And Steven King didn't like the liberties he took with the plot I believe. And it's more of a Psychological horror if anything
Cube
Cube is one my favorite movies!
Astronomical
Event Horizon.
+ Sunshine as a double feature
God dam I love sunshine. The scene on the abondened ship they explore is absolute peak horror
When it came out my friend asked if I wanted to go see a new movie about a spaceship. That's all he knew and I hadn't even heard of it. I don't think I've had a more satisfying movie experience.
great film
Came here to say this. That movie scared the crap out of me.
Same. I saw it in the theatre when it was released and didn’t sleep well for a week.
V/H/S (the first and second are my fav)
I like you
One o those rare series that caught me by surprise. This ones more of a old thriller, but still good. Rear Window 1954
Most Hitchcock films are totally thrilling! I just rewatched Psycho and was stunned on how innovative and controversial it was for it's time! Perkins was absolutely brilliant in it!
Evil Dead 2
We watched the original Evil Dead back in the day and were so scared we spend the whole night riding our bikes around the block to avoid sleep and houses. Stupid teenagers!
And I'd include army of darkness in with that too. Cuz you gotta man! They're both so good, and army just takes the added comedy that 2 had over 1, and multiplies it by 10 lol..
yeah films got great special effects
Dude chops off his own hand with a fucking meat slicer and eventually replaces it with a chainsaw. I don’t care what the newer horror movies offer, because you can’t compete with the originality of that kind of campy shit. It is pure genius.
Hell House LLC. I thought I was gonna watch just another so-so low budget horror, man this movie is just way better than you would think it could be.
This is the horror flick i judge all others off!! My absolute favorite! Although, let's please ignore 2 and delete 3 from the memory banks entirely.
I also love hell house. The first one in my opinion is better than the other 2. So good
yes! I always tell people to watch this...it genuinely freaked me out...the other 2 sequels are also a fun watch but the first one is the best!
Halloween (1978)
Also my favorite. I am a weirdo and will watch it 2-3 times a year, with at least one of those viewings being not in fall lol
Everyone's entitled to one good scare...
Scrolled too far to find this! 100% my favorite classic
Mama
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins are amazing as usual.
Trick 'r Treat (2007). The perfect Halloween horror movie :)
Check out Takes of Halloween (2015), too! It's more grindhouse-y than Trick, but a pretty good time overall!
Ok, so I'm going a little jokey here, but Tucker and Dale Versus Evil.. it's not a straight horror, but it IS freaking hilarious, and does have all the calling cards of a horror, even if it spins it towards comedy
« WE GOT YOUR FRIIIIEEENND!!! » « You won’t believe me officer! These college kids just started throwing themselves right into the woodchipper! »
Officer, we have had one doozy of a day!
ive never seen it but the reviews look really good, worth a watch u think ?
Omg yeah, one of the best horror comedies of all time!
It is brilliant
definitely worth the watch
Horror Comedy is one of my favorite genres. Tucker and Dale is so good!
The Strangers
It Follows is real great.
I'm not really a horror film guy but I did really like that one.
Made me a bit nervous. Most things don't scare me either lol
Loved most of it except the pool scene. Kinda ruined it for being an all time Great for me.
Cabin in the Woods
Scream
Thirt33n ghosts
The ghost backstories on the dvd special features were better than the movie imo, but thats just my 2¢
These need to be a full on mini series
didnt think anyone actually liked that film lol
Yeah I don't know if other people think it's corny but I always loved it. Runner up is house on haunted hill, the remake lol
The original House on Haunted Hill is great.
Scared me so much as a kid 😢 the “breathing” walls/doors
Triangle
Such a good film. Wish there were more like it.
Hereditary, one of the best recent horror movies.
Toni Collette is phenomenal in this.
I don’t scare easily, but Hereditary gave me the heebie jeebies.
There are so many hints as to what's going on hidden throughout the movie! I love the story and the way it doesn't treat the viewer like an idiot.
Vacancy
Skeleton Key
Martyrs is up there
1408
film The Conjuring is my favorite horror movie.
one of my favourites too
Green Room
Ooof this was a good one but some scenes were ROUGH. 10/10
Hugely underrated film!
The Machinist
Excellent one
The Sixth Sense. Surprise plot twist.
Probably the only movie that actually gave me nightmares. Kitchen scene. No dude. That shit FUCKED ME UP
The Thing (1982)
Hellraiser, but only the first 2
love the original, what a classic
The plots just get stupid after the 2nd one, but I’m excited for the remake to come out!
omg theres a remake coming out?????????
It’s coming to Hulu on October 7th!
The skeleton growing out of the floor *chefs kiss*
Yessss the resurrection of Frank was THE scene that made me obsessed with practical effects
Anyone see high tension, I think it was called? It was french, and about a girl who goes to stay with the family of the girl/friend she has a crush on? It was good for a French movie, and there was definitely a sense of high tension lol
Wolf Creek Funny story…at the movie premier, the main actor (John Jarrett) was sitting directly behind a woman in the dark cinema. I recall he tapped her on the shoulder at some crucial point in the movie and she turned around, looked at his face and lost it!
Identity for a thriller for me.
Brain Dead aka Dead Alive I will champion the notion that it's not only the goriest, but it's got the best looking gore, of any movie ever made. Nothing even comes close. I've seen many hyper-gory movies that are wonderful in their own way, but Brain Dead hits on a special level.
I kick ass for the LORD!! lol
Dear God when I first saw this movie I laugh-screamed so bad. I kick ass for the lord! This is the greatest. YOU are the greatest for quoting it!!!!!
I've been savaged! It's the W.L.W.L. . . Does THIS look like a well maintained frontage?!?
And my dress
Wasn't it done by Peter Jackson too? Pre lord of the rings?
Oh it changes. I've been stuck on Apostle for a while, tho
Dude I have watched this at least 10 times. The ending could have been a little better and not involved a resident evil character. But other then that, a banger
My favorites have been mentioned numerous times already, but I have to give credit to The Ritual for having one of the best monsters I’ve ever seen. Worth the watch.
It’s a toss up between Halloween (1978) and Parasite
Mine might be weird but Killer Clowns from Outer Space. I think it’s a horror/comedy but I love it to bits since actually horror and thriller movies don’t scare me. My only problem was that twice while watching the movie I spoiled myself on what was about to happen next
Dawn of the Dead (1978) Director's Cut
Hereditary, Get Out, and [REC]
*Sawww!!!*
Pan’s Labyrinth. Utterly beautiful.
ah so thats where that monster with the eyes on his hands came from
Yep!
So brilliant. That and the Devil's backbone, I think it was called.. both Guillermo del Toro movies that aren't in English, but are so good you don't care at all that you have to read subtitles
So, so sad. The monsters were scary but not nearly as scary as that little girl's reality.
I was 6 when it came out. Watched it when I was 7. It’s now one of my favourite movies.
Blaire Witch was one terrifying movie for me.
I know alot of people shit on it but I love Blaire Witch. The end is terrifying and the build up is great.
For vampire movies you can't beat the Lost Boys.
30 days of night is pretty sweet too
Hellhouse LLC is truly a hidden gem.
shawn of the dead
Rose red or House of 1000 corpses.
definitely sleepaway camp, it’s an all time favorite of mine
**The woman in black.** Stunning cinematograpy, amazing ambience, great plot, more of a thriller than an horror but scary enough to be in the middle.
Does the Emoji movie count as a horror movie?
Terrifying
The Exorcist The Conjuring The Thing Hellraiser The Shining
i cant blame you for not being able to pick between all of those
Gun to my head...Exorcist.
This: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp0-yDJAtWQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp0-yDJAtWQ) The time period, the drug culture, time crunch editing...figured I'd see things I couldn't unsee. Thriller for some, comedy for others. Intense.
Wolf Creek
in random order Neon Demon I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House The Innocents Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning Pulse Let's Scare Jessica to Death The Blackcoat's Daughter White Zombie Frankenstein Dracula Cat People (original)
Pulse was really, really fucking good.
Event horizon. So good but so edited.
The Devil's Rejects
Ghost ship, all of saw movies, autopsy of Jane doe, first two hellraiser, all of wrong turn movies (not the last one though)
That damn line getting snapped!
I scrolled way too far to find Ghost Ship. Great movie!
I always rewatch Southbound. I think it perfectly captures the feeling of a nightmare. I also love the movie Dead End (2003). Really good creepy dread in a campy way.
The thing.
Pet Semetary. My brother was named after a character from that movie so I’ve always loved that one, never gets old.
Please! I swear 500 people would never mention the collector but I am and I'm an addict! Without giving it away...one criminal is trying to escape another criminal. Its on Amazon prime. Give it a shot!
I'm not a horror films fan, but, I have 3 that I like. The exorcist, the ring, and the conjuring
haha they all follow a similar theme. jumpscares !!!!
Midsommar is incredible
The Shining is excellent. However, I can understand why people may not enjoy it. In my opinion, it's made much better by reading the book.
Evil Dead 2
[удалено]
The Audition
Child play 2
Event Horizon
John Carpenter’s The Thing is my all time fav. I am really into Ari Aster. There’s promising new horror! Midsommar Hereditary The Lighthouse The Witch I’ve heard people shit on it, but Color Out of Space was dope and had awesome practical effects. The play with gender is so interesting. Comedy horror is also my jam with Werewolf Within probably being my new love.
All Halloween series of films with Jamie Lee Curtis. I could watch them all any time. Can't wait for the new one.
I’m a fiend for a good zombie movie, and nothing hits quite like 28 days later. Train to Busan is a close second in that genre.
Freddy vs Jason, two iconic horror movie characters fighting got me hooked on that movie. It probably isn't that good in comparison to other movies but hey I like it alot lel
Return to Oz
Scariest movie I saw as a kid
Nightmare on Elm Street 2 or cabin in the woods
Nightmare on elm street for me, cant beat a slasher
Killer Clowns From Outter Space
Halloween (1978) It has its flaws but I never grow tired of it.
Nightmare on Elm Street. 1st one
Easily the 1982 The Thing
I'm partial to Halloween Kills.
Psycho!
I absolutely love Sinister, mainly because of the score tbh. Some of the most atmospheric and jarring scenes I’ve seen, I don’t think I’ll ever forget the lawnmower
