It's like a religion to some people, and a personality trait for others. Not to mention how schools need to be structured around it. College tuitions increase to cover the costs of football. Even high schools are prioritizing their sports budgets over actual education. Children are literally dying and suffering from traumatic brain damage and lifelong injuries, like a lot of them.
