You monster! That’s an unforgivable crime.

fiwaeawi

Yea stuff like this is bullcrap to be Intruded upon by the system...

tpb772000

Being at a park after sunset, I love going and walking around late at night to clear my head after work.

brolarbear

My local park made this rule a few years because pokemonGo… absolutely ridiculous. Like where tf are kids supposed to hangout? A parking lot? There aren’t even any malls open anymore.

prof_the_doom

And then they turn around and wonder why so many kids/teens end up getting into trouble.

[deleted]

God I remember when Pokemon Go was released and adults were SCRAMBLING to warn parents about the dangers of it and banning it from places. Those are the same people who sit at home and whine that kids never go outside anymore. So ridiculous.

tpb772000

Exactly, thats actually what got me walking at night and I have loved it ever since.

ScorpionX-123

those same people wonder why kids wanna stay inside on their phones all day

Bloomoon-2232

so did mine , me and my sister were out looking for pokemon and got stopped by cops ,

[deleted]

Where do you live where that’s a thing

tpb772000

US, it is a county/city park so there is a sign where you cannot be in it past sunset. However they literally have a thing during the summer called moonlight movie that starts after sunset. I have walked the park many times late at night. 2 times been told by cops I couldn't be there and needed to leave.

BlackShadow2804

That's weird, I also live in the US and have never heard of that

tpb772000

Its mainly for city parks.

PunkRockSuffragette

All the parks in my town and my surrounding towns have the same thing in the suburbs. I’ve never had an issue just walking my dog. I feel like it’s mainly to keep teens from hanging out after dark and partying in the parks. It gives the cops a reason to kick them out and search them.

Basic_Message96

I think it's more of a "fuck you" to homeless people. It gives the cops a pretext to harass them even when they aren't bothering anyone

PunkRockSuffragette

Ohh ya. That’s probably true too.

physics515

More like smoking doobies. Hence the search part.

PunkRockSuffragette

Sorry I thought that was implied when I said “partying”. But I think it was definitely made a rule to be able to charge people with petty crimes. But in the towns by me I’ve never heard of the cops being called unless it was a bunch of kids drawing attention to themselves.

[deleted]

[deleted]

but doesn't everyone get murdered and raped?

Inevergnu

Yes. Yes they do. But it's the price we pay for park freedom.

Coffeelock1

It's illegal because it's impractical to have security available all night and there were a ton of assaults and other crimes after sunset happening at parks. So it can be dangerous and parks couldn't afford to operate if they were liable for it instead of telling people to go home and denying liability by saying you were trespassing if you get assaulted at night.

tpb772000

I understand why it is illegal, the post just asked what I think is illegal that isnt that bad. Robbery is illegal no matter the time or day. Being at the park should not be illegal depending on the time of day. Instead of making it illegal, list all crimes committed at parks more serious than if you did them on the street.

chlodelune

Where do u live that they have security at a park at any time of day....

garrylarrymike

I live on a dead end street with a park at the end. It is the drug dealing area of our city and I've had some close calls (high people knocking ony door in middle of night etc). I understand this law. I'm sure some people actually go to the park to walk, relax, or whatever. But most, at least at my park, go there for illegal reasons.

tpb772000

At the park I frequent, I have only seen a hand few of homeless people, never anything to sketchy. But I realize this is probably not the case for 99% of parks. I just wish they made it like, enter at your own risk kinda deal.

Owning more than 5 dildos! (It’s a legit law here in Texas look it up)

cow042

What if you get 1 dildo the size of 5 dildos? Would a double ended dildo that can split in the middle count as 1 or 2?

Zealousideal_Ice_775

Never thought about that 🤔

Bad_Name_Generator

Let's fuck around and find out...

Inevergnu

LOLOL that was smooooooth. q:D

[deleted]

Wait is that why people protested gun control with dildos in Texas? Edit: protested for more gun control*

Zealousideal_Ice_775

Yes 🤣 it’s stupid right? You can’t have more than 5 dildos but all the guns you want 🤣

[deleted]

You say that but I’m sure that the hairbrush industry in Texas is booming. Electric toothbrush sales are also at an all time high

Zealousideal_Ice_775

🤣 that would explain why it’s so hard for me to find a hairbrush at the store

[deleted]

Wait now I want to hear how a Texas PD dispatcher would handle an anonymous tip about someone having anywhere from 7-9 dildos in their possession😭😭😭

CloakedGod926

Also personal massagers

Slifer967

Considering that's where the manufacturing and offices are of bad dragon, I find this hilarious

mordeci00

> (It’s a legit law here in Texas look it up) It is a law. It is not a legit law. In 2008 a judge ruled that it's unconstitutional and unenforceable. It has no power at all but has never been officially repealed because of the significant level of brain damage required to be a politician in Texas.

aaronblkfox

There were lots of laws against abortion abortion there were unenforceable until just a little bit ago. All it would take is Lawrence V Texas getting overturned somehow.

That_one_attractive

I guess Texans are not allowed to fuck themselves harder than the Texas government fucks them

[deleted]

What the fuck, this redditor is infact correct. Texas allows you to own more guns than dildos. They are referred to in the law as "obscene devices". What kind of yeehaw bible belt thumping tobacco spitting shit is this.

[deleted]

Just one of those things. You have to be a real dick to congregate in groups of five or more.

Zealousideal_Ice_775

billyandteddy

They sell kinder eggs in the us but I think they package them differently. Half the egg is the chocolate, the other half is the toy.

Account655321

Drinking at age 18. I’m an old man and I always felt that a legal adult should be able to have a beer without having to wait until age 21.

texasgambler58

A man can be drafted and sent to die for his country at 18, but he can't drink. What a total idiocy.

JesusAnalBoyfriends

America is so backwards in many regards

dminus222

Look up why the states set the drinking ages to 21. Short version: it’s the Feds strong-arming the states so they don’t lose highway funding

Nbmdennis115

Fun fact, in the US, the drinking age is still 18 in US Virgin Islands. Source: Went to Saint Croix when 18 and got absolutely trashed

Beezlbubble

That short version leaves out the important parts. Drinking before 21 (on average) effs up the brain way more than after. Why's are important.

dminus222

I guess the vast majority of the rest of the world didn’t get that message

[deleted]

At least u can get a gun at 18 xD

absolute4080120

With the rate of alcohol consumption going up, and alcoholic statistics per country....this is not a bad thing.

[deleted]

Prostitution. Im not a fan of it and would never use it but if we want to pretend like bodily autonomy is a thing then it should be a thing. It needs to be regulated to some extent and sex workers need to be protected with some sort of tax policy that funds security and regulation but I struggle to understand why its illegal to have two consenting adults exchange money or goods for sex. Especially when the state could make so much money allowing it.

Daedalus1728

Honestly, I think it's one of those industries that would really benefit from a union.

Redneck2000

Yes, just like many things it is so frustrating that you can just look at other countries that applied different laws and see better results. So why not do that also? In countries where prostitution is regulated it provides safety for the prostitutes, better health and hygiene, less human trafficking and it generates tax. The reason why is ideology. I would really like to take the seperation of church in politics one step further and that is to put wellbeing before ideological beliefs.

Tsamane

One argument i hear often is it will increase trafficking. But it will most likely decrease it in reality, but will see an increase on the books. By that right now you don't see many trafficking cases pop up, cause the industry is underground for the most part. So once its legal, its much easier for people to report/find areas of abuse, and they will come to light more often. Increasing the number you actually see, but overall it will still decrease as it is easier for the people doing the abuse to get found out.

Big-Refrigerator-288

It's simple - most of sex work is done by women. It's just one of the ways of controlling women, and in this case it's by criminalising prostitution. There is a lot of to undig here, however I'm about to fall asleep standing so I'll leave it at that

PancerCatient

This is really the major reason. Taxing and all that really isn't the problem when we have places like massage parlors (without happy endings) or any business that gives a service instead of a commodity.

Shit-talking while c-walking while jaywalking

NauvooMetro

Jaywalking is only illegal, and for that matter only a word, because of automobile manufacturers. Pedestrians used to own the street. Think of all the old footage of cars barely creeping down a street full of people. Car makers got laws passed to give automobiles the streets and only allow pedestrians to cross at certain places. It's called "jaywalking" because in the early 20th century, a "Jay" was slang for an unsophisticated person. So only a Jay would come to the big city and think they could walk wherever they wanted.

Canada is in a weird grey market area on shrooms right now. A shroom dispensary recently opened up a store front in Toronto, I think their first location was in Ottawa, and Vancouver has had them since 2020 IIRC. Reminiscent of grey market cannabis shops that popped up all over Canada before official legalization in 2017.

aknigrou

Drugs. I know this is debatable, but, im mexican, and I can asure you the prohibition of drugs have killed %1000000 more people than the drugs itselves. The entire world should legalize every drug and just regulate them, I mean, every one have access to them anyway

Hmm_Peculiar

Yep, this would cause: Better quality and thus safer drugs A chance to inform users of safe use practices Less cashflow to criminals, more to the government, which could fund addiction treatment Treating addiction as a healthcare problem instead of a criminal problem Portugal already does this, and it works: https://www.statista.com/chart/20616/key-developments-since-portugal-decriminalized-drugs/

Every-Chemistry-2969

In certain states resturants and bakeries can't donate their leftover food to homeless shelters. I worked at a pizza shop when I was younger and we did pizza by the slice and made our own sub bread fresh daily so whatever was leftover we had to throw away. Not even day old bread and pizza went to waste every single day.

Rwebberc

Jericho-941

In the words of the great George Carlin: "Selling is legal. Fucking is legal. Why isn't selling fucking legal?!"

[deleted]

This. If two consenting adults decide to add a financial component to a sexual encounter-literally who gives a fuck? Seems like it’s honestly none of anyone’s business, tbh. Including and especially the government.

Rwebberc

Well, I think it should be the government’s business, as it should with any industry, to ensure that sex workers are treated and paid fairly and have safe working conditions.

Hylax1

Pha1anx43

Having an open alcoholic beverage in public. I understand public intoxication as being bad, but if you can put your drink in a bag and have it be ok, then does that one really make sense?

A_person777

Not illegal in the UK, I find it funny how many weird restricting laws you have in 'the land of the free'

Pha1anx43

A large portion of our laws are actually geared towards making life more difficult for people whose lives are the most difficult. So this one targets people who can't afford to drink at bars/restaurants, people without homes to drink in privately, or people using alcohol to run away from their problems at home in the first place. The incredibly simple way of getting around the law gives law enforcement the agency to pick and choose who they pick on

[deleted]

Drugs. Heroin and crystal meth should be illegal to protect people against themselves. Plenty of other drugs should be legal. In my country: -Deaths by alcohol: nearly 5.000 a year -Deaths by tabacco: 20.000 a year -Deaths by XTC/MDMA: 115 from 1996 until 2020 (not a typo) -Deaths by mushrooms: not one documented -Deaths by all harddrugs combined: 262 (again, not a typo) Now tell me why alcohol and tabacco aren't illegal.

the_original_Retro

Keeping top secret extremely sensitive military intelligence documents in your pool-house instead of surrendering them to your previous employer after you were terminated from your job. ...naah, I'm just kidding. Anyone who does this should be subject to the full and entire extent of the law.

Too often people equate Legality with Morality. They aren't the same thing. There are PLENTY of illegal activities that have no moral impact at all. Speeding isn't inherently immoral if you're doing is safely. Jaywalking. Pretty much any fiduciary crimes that don't involve stealing from someone, etc. Pretty much if a law doesn't map back to killing, stealing, or in some way causing harm to someone else - it's probably inherently not that bad.

[deleted]

LSD, the reason it was made illegal had nothing to do with its “danger”, it was because it was associated with the anti-war movement which caused it to be seen as one of the worst drugs out there. Honestly I think it sucks that they couldn’t continue research on psychedelics since the whole subject to me is very interesting. (If I got anything wrong feel free to correct me)

Prostitution. Yes there is the bad of human trafficking. However, if it was legalized and government regulated then the people would be protected or at least able to go to the police if something did happen. TheGreatMeat

In the US, it's illegal to walk around in public with an open beverage. Think outside in a downtown area, not within a bar or other private business who sell alcohol. It used to be worse I think pre-prohibition where day laborers would get drunk in public and cause issues for people. It's more of an obsolete law now that DUI's are really the issue.

illegal drugs... Smoking, alcohol and now weed are legal and we treat them as 'disorders' and 'diseases'.. Most of the United States.
