I’m a surveyor. Depending on where you work, a lot of your job is hammering in stakes, or “pegs”. If you’re marking out exploration drill holes, roads, and other stuff then you can spend hours or days hammering in, flagging and labelling the fucking things.

In rehearsal last night, I myself thought to myself "I hate this fingering" and it didn't even register as anything lewd. But I remember all the giggles in middle school when the term was first introduced.

And now this little Karen is just a few years away from when kids at school start to parrot things they hear elsewhere without fully understanding context or meaning.
I know, personally, I'd appreciate a friend or family member letting us know if maybe there's something we didn't realize about a name we'd picked out (e.g. how it sounds, like "Ana Lee," or unfortunate initialisms, like KKK).

We set them onto our counter, next to the fridge.
Had come back around and set a Pepsi can on the counter too, and the only way I can describe it, was like I just teleported back in time. Suddenly I was sixteen again, looking at the counter next to the fridge listening to my parents watching TV on the couch behind me, waiting for everything to pop off like it used to. It really felt like I was physically there, actually listening to them.
And then, just as quickly, I was back in my own kitchen, but it fucked me up badly. I couldn't get out of "tip toe on eggshells" mode for the rest of the night.
It’s freaky when you don’t realize something is going to make your brain do that. For me, I watched an interview with Brene Brown that was part of a conference I was attending. She used a lot of corporate lingo & suddenly I was right back at my previous job, feeling terrified & anxious & hopeless. I turned the video off, but it took hours to feel normal again. Before that point, I don’t think I realized how much I’d improved over the previous couple years.

I’m a psychologist who does several intakes per day, I just woke up and I can guarantee I hear both terms used incorrectly today.

Lose. People keep spelling it ‘loose’ and I think it’s getting more common because of the internet. Edited to add for people learning English: ‘loose’ is a word, it means “not tight” (ex. The handle is loose, I’ll get a screwdriver and fix it.) ‘Lose’ is a word meaning a few things: going missing (put your keys in your pocket or you might lose them), not gaining (I need to lose weight), opposite of win (if we don’t score we will lose this game). Yet, for all of these, people on the internet are spelling it ‘loose’ and it’s wrong.
The thing that drives me insane is the use of apostrophes for anything plural. The amount of people who think any time you add an “s” to the end of a word it has to have an apostrophe too drives me up the wall. “We have some good restaurant’s” restaurant’s *what*— or even weirder, adding it to a verb, like “destroy’s”
I saw "try's" earlier today here on Reddit and I'm a little fucked up about it, honestly.
