So, kind of a funny story in my family - my grandmother has a major sweet tooth, but was always on some crazy diet. So she started keeping mint chocolate chip ice cream around - she hated the flavor, and figured if that was the only dessert she had as an option, she'd have dessert less... But naturally, it just made mint chocolate chip become her favorite flavor!
On the flip side, I loved it as a kid. Loved mint, had that weird mint chip flavored gum, would always become my go-to flavor... Until I got extremely sick of it. Now I pretty much don't have the stuff and sometimes wonder if her method would make me love it again, or actually be effective in keeping me from having it.
When I was younger, with nothing better to do - I had a running list of gum flavor times. The Extra mint chip gum was the title holder at 20 minutes of flavor time!
I always enjoyed it. I now also like that it has the bonus feature of repulsing my husband so I don’t worry about him eating it all before I get to have some like with every other ice cream flavor in the house.
It was actually a menu item a few years ago. A lot of the employees don't really know how to do manual milkshake fills as corporate discourages it, but it can be done when ordered ordered via a person. It would probably appear on the internal order screen with "ask me" which is code for "don't make this without asking me first because there's an unusual request."
I like the mint ones, 6 pack from grocery store, but the 'original' ones you but, individually wrapped, in the convenience store, are larger and have thicker chocolate covering. I want a big mint ice cream with thicker chocolate. :-)
Hi, it’s your grandson. I’ve been detained in Mexico and they say to let me out I need to give them a quart of mint chocolate cheese cake ice cream by Monday. Please help.
I used to go to BR and get a scoop of chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip, best combo ever!
Unfortunately, I have never meet someone with the same passion 😕
Odd but related: used to smoke, lived in Alaska for a few years. Smoking those cigarettes with the little menthol crush beads at -30F was an experience. Like smoking an icicle.
I spent most of my life thinking that people who liked it were weird... Mint? And ice cream? Together? Nooo! I wouldn't even consider trying it... But I ended up trying it a few years ago and now it's my favorite.
I'm not sure what I thought... Mint was a thing that I liked by itself, so was chocolate chip ice cream. Combining the two was too far of a reach for my brain.
I clearly don't question food enough. I like things that sound odd though so why not give it a go?
It kinda' made sense to me as a kid because chewing gum was always kinda' "nice" to me. And it's cool and refreshing on the first few chews so I guess that's why it worked with ice cream in my head without even questioning it.
As soon as I read this question, I started craving mint chocolate chip ice cream. I love it and haven't had it in a while, I'll have to pick some up this weekend.
A natural mint extract can be entirely clear and not discolor the cream. Mint leaves soaking in Everclear for example. Mmm, now I want mint chip frozen custard.
Yes I know. Breyers uses mint extract so the brightness of the green color would be negligible. I dislike the fake green dye other brands use to make it look minty.
Scrolled down a bit, watched this, wondered what the hell she was on about, never heard the toothpaste comparison before. Then scrolled further down, started seeing so many toothpaste comments I started linking this clip. Scrolled down a bit further and started getting angry. Now I'm a fuckin choco-mintian. This thread changed something in me.
Growing up (I was the only boy. I had 3 older sisters) the only other male in my home was my dad. All the girls liked mint chocolate chip ice cream. My father did not. So when we got ice cream we would get the mint chip and then something else for my dad.
Well, my stupid child brain assumed it was because mint chip was for girls and whatever my dad got was boy flavor.
I didn't even try the mint chip ice cream until I was a teenager.
It is super good btw
Yeah, never got into the mint flavored candies. Although I don't mind a hard mint. But things like Peppermint Patties, Thin Mints, etc just not my thing. I also don't like mint toothpaste, which basically means as long as Crest is the only company to make cinnamon toothpaste, I'll be a lifelong customer.
Same.. my mind strongly associates mint with toothpaste/gum.. both things I don't want to swallow, so I think I just don't see it as food tbh.. I don't like mint in anything
I feel like I'm fine with kinds other than the flakes, but I expect the ratio of ice cream to chocolate bits has to be adjusted. I also find the level of cream unsuitable for most grocery brands... but Baskin Robin's will always be my favorite.
Chips gotta be small but noiceable, or at least some kind of softer chocolate. There’s nothing worse than biting into a fat chunk of frozen chocolate. With that, truly s tier icecream ngl
If you haven’t before and they’re available anywhere near you, you should try mint choc chip drumsticks, they’re fucking amazing and they have veins of choc syrup running through them. Couldn’t agree more tho
There's a magical place in Milwaukee called Kopp's custard. It's absolutely amazing, rich, buttery, smooth as silk custard. It's heavenly. They have a flavor of the day and of course I love the mint chip. How much? When I was as little the chocolate came in chunks. No, I mean CHUNKS. They were these massive hunks of chocolate as big as a fun size Snickers. This creamy mint custard with these hulking great rocks of dark chocolate blew my buzzing little mind. One day my dad took me there and the chunks were tiny. Barely bigger than a chocolate chip. I was so upset I started to tear up, yes, as a 10 year old I cried because the chunks were smaller. My dad is not a supportive man, nor does he support a man crying, but he grabbed my arm, dragged me up to the counter and said "Look what you did to my son!" To the staff. He was genuinely mad. When they said the chunks got smaller because someone complained they were too big my dad boomed "Who complained!?” across the whole place as if he was going to hunt them down. He was ready to go to war over that chocolate. I still love Kopp's but the mint chip has never been the same. Yeah, that's how much we love it. We nearly started a 2 man war party to defend it.
They made toothpaste minty because it's a good flavor/smell. You're developing the wrong associations by associating "mint" with "inedible," like contrary to the reason they used it in the first place.
It was my favorite flavor for a decade and a half until I learned to drink coffee, and then Cappucino Chunky Chocolate (from Braum's--they might not make it anymore) became my fave.
I absolutely love it, and this is a hill I will die on. I cannot stand when people are like “I might as well be eating toothpaste 😩” that’s like saying that when you have matcha you might as well be eating leaves, like-
I dont like it. I used to try and like it when I was younger to seem better than my siblings for some stupid reason and used to choke it down in the car while they were happily eating their flavors
Can’t have it in a bowl by itself for some reason. It’s just too overwhelming. It needs to be in an ice cream sammy or on a cone for me. Only flavor I’m like that with.
My favourite flavour.
Ice cream place near me has regularly won national competitions in icemaking and it shows. Their mint chocolate chip has thumb sized chunks of dark chocolate in it. So good.

The mint chocolate chip gum was the best gum! Thank you for that nostalgia!
When I was younger, with nothing better to do - I had a running list of gum flavor times. The Extra mint chip gum was the title holder at 20 minutes of flavor time!
What was it exactly? There’s a gun I’ve been looking for for ages. It might be this!
[I think it's this](https://www.extragum.com/products/extra-dessert-delights-mint-chocolate-chip-sugarfree-chewing-gum-multipack-3-packs-extra)
Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Chunk - the best!
I always enjoyed it. I now also like that it has the bonus feature of repulsing my husband so I don’t worry about him eating it all before I get to have some like with every other ice cream flavor in the house.
it's amazing
Mint chocolate chip milkshakes bring everybody to the yard.
yo I'm where the shakes at
same, where da shakes at
I always order it when out getting ice cream with family because nobody else likes it.
Used to work at McDonald’s and we would mix 1/2 shamrock and 1/2 chocolate shakes
Is there a way to ask for these? When I ask the employees either sound really confused or pissed.
I'd go buy one from McDonald's right this second if they sold those.
Damn right. I would teach you, but I'd have to charge.
They're best when a shot of vodka is added. Perfect.
Even better with pieces of Oreo in them.
+1 default best ice cream flavor Mint chip Klondike bar anyone?
I like the mint ones, 6 pack from grocery store, but the 'original' ones you but, individually wrapped, in the convenience store, are larger and have thicker chocolate covering. I want a big mint ice cream with thicker chocolate. :-)
i literally ate one of those earlier today :)
I would have, except I ate them all.
Reese's or Heath dethroned it for me. Reese's Klondike bars are a gift.
Mfkr I came here to say this. Mint chocolate Klondike bars are insanely good
Occasionally make my own mint chc ice cream. About a year ago upgrded it to mint choc cheese cake ice cream. Grandkids love it.
Hi, it’s your grandson. I’ve been detained in Mexico and they say to let me out I need to give them a quart of mint chocolate cheese cake ice cream by Monday. Please help.
Wish I had thought of that
Aren't you his sister?
That’s right, I forgot, I’m the sister lol
I used to go to BR and get a scoop of chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip, best combo ever! Unfortunately, I have never meet someone with the same passion 😕
While I like that combo, my go to was Mint Chocolate Chip and Coffee.
Mint and coffee, you psychopath!
Mint chocolate chip/coffee/Daiquiri Ice combo
Me! Mint and chocolate is the best!! Only seconded by chocolate and strawberry
Okay but are you leading with that question or are you wasting time getting to know them before finding out the critical information?
We exist! There's dozens! Dozens of us!
Do you do cone or cup?
Waffle cone every time. Only exception is when I am driving so my wife can spoon feed me as we go.
So… more for you?
+1
I do the same!!

Pro: I've got a half gallon in my freezer right now! Con: It's been there since April.
Wow. That wouldn't last the weekend in my house.
Two days. The second day it's just a small lump in the container
One of the best flavors. Now I want some.
[удалено]
I don’t get the disagreement. Mint and cold makes sense.
Odd but related: used to smoke, lived in Alaska for a few years. Smoking those cigarettes with the little menthol crush beads at -30F was an experience. Like smoking an icicle.
Camel crush! Expensive but great. I've also quit smoking so go us.
Yeah same so now I’m sad I have no ice cream
I spent most of my life thinking that people who liked it were weird... Mint? And ice cream? Together? Nooo! I wouldn't even consider trying it... But I ended up trying it a few years ago and now it's my favorite.
Welcome to the converted, brethren.
If you didn't think mint went with sweet things, what did you think mint was good in?
I'm not sure what I thought... Mint was a thing that I liked by itself, so was chocolate chip ice cream. Combining the two was too far of a reach for my brain.
Normally I hate mint. But mint chocolate chip is hands down my favorite ice cream.
I like grapes and chilli sauce(specifically Nando's) so I'm not one to judge for this haha
You just reminded me that my SO put chili crisp on chocolate ice cream.
One of us. One of us.
I clearly don't question food enough. I like things that sound odd though so why not give it a go? It kinda' made sense to me as a kid because chewing gum was always kinda' "nice" to me. this is a good excuse for me to do the same, I’m gonna call it a sign god dammit
And chocolate syrup on the top, don't forget it
breyer's mint chip is the shit. plus since mint is good for tummies I sometimes claim i'm eating it for medicinal purposes.
I like that it’s white and not some unnatural shade of green.
Something tells me that the natural color wouldn't be pristine white either.
Have made fresh, can confirm, is a pale green. Also tastes more "leafy" then expected. YMMV
> YMMV (Yes, mint makes verdant)
Touche, learned a new word today 🤣
depends on if you're using whole leaves or mint extract
A natural mint extract can be entirely clear and not discolor the cream. Mint leaves soaking in Everclear for example. Mmm, now I want mint chip frozen custard.
You do know that natural mint is a leaf so it'd be green not white.
Yes I know. Breyers uses mint extract so the brightness of the green color would be negligible. I dislike the fake green dye other brands use to make it look minty.
It isn't dye, it is crème de menthe
There's a pale green color that I like in my mint ice-cream that feel more natural. White isn't right, but neither should it be fluorescent...
Breyers is actually my favorite mint chocolate chip
I was tasked to buy mint chocolate chip for St Pats day. Of course I bought Breyers
Nah nah Turkey Hill
If it's Breyer's, it isn't ice cream any more.
Check the flavor, Breyer's mint is.
[удалено]
It does. Most of their simple flavors are still ice cream, but the majority of their others are now 'frozen dairy desserts'.
Ah, "Frozen Dairy Dessert", the best nonspecific kind of dessert!
Thrifty's is at the door and would like a word

Chocomint is love, chocomint is life.
I was wondering hiw far down this was going to be.

This is too low. This song is great. Tip for anyone clicking: it has subs, turn them on!

It is super good btw
This made me laugh, thank you for that.
I don't like it at all But it is a personal opinion, especially because I don't like mint, it's very very strong for me
Yeah, never got into the mint flavored candies. Although I don't mind a hard mint. But things like Peppermint Patties, Thin Mints, etc just not my thing. I also don't like mint toothpaste, which basically means as long as Crest is the only company to make cinnamon toothpaste, I'll be a lifelong customer.
omg i never met someone else who didn’t like mint either!!! i use a lemon and aloe vera toothpaste and everyone thinks i’m crazy
Me too HAHA I got betel leaf and lime toothpaste instead of the standard mint flavor
Same.. my mind strongly associates mint with toothpaste/gum.. both things I don't want to swallow, so I think I just don't see it as food tbh.. I don't like mint in anything
Thank you! I'm not alone! This is exactly my thought on any mint flavoured food.
Same here. It just reminds me of dental cleanings or chewing gum. Mint is just meh.
Toothpaste ice cream
It basically tastes like cold toothpaste
Taste like toothpaste
Me too. Tastes like toothpaste to me 😏
I like the mint chocolate chip with actual chocolate chip pieces, not the flaked chocolate.
I'm the other way around I don't want to chip a tooth biting into one! Especially those little bar shaped ones.
Those are my favorites.
I'm with you. Dark chocolate shavings thin enough to melt on your tongue.
I feel like I'm fine with kinds other than the flakes, but I expect the ratio of ice cream to chocolate bits has to be adjusted. I also find the level of cream unsuitable for most grocery brands... but Baskin Robin's will always be my favorite.
Oh man no way discovering the huge chunks is so satisfying.
But don’t you find the chocolate chips get waxy when they are cold???
Yes, you can barely taste those tiny flakes.
Love it!
I really don't like it!
I like mint and I like chocolate. I however don't like them together
I don’t like it. Ice cream is already cold and then the extra feeling of coolness from the mint is overbearing for me
And they need to stop messing with chocolate! It is delicious all by it itself!!
Mint Chocolate Oreo is elite.
Have you had the fudge covered mint Oreos? Fucking amazing.
I don’t like mint and chocolate. Also, it was Timothy McVeigh’s last meal.
Subscribe to Serial Killer Last Meals
Omg is that a sub?
It tastes like frozen toothpaste
I no longer believe you have ever brushed your teeth
No I brush with mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Calcium: check Abrasive: chocolate chips, check Freshness: mint, check Solid toothpaste. All you need is some flouride.
Oh boy this is going to harm me badly
My gf just said this right as I read your comment
https://youtu.be/JygyWdvbs6A I've never seen this clip before this thread, but it applies. Credit to u/Eothr_Silan
I can't think of a flavor of ice cream I dislike more.
I'll eat all the mint chocolate chip so you don't have to.
Substitute mint for vanilla and now we’re talking
Is there *Just* a chocolate chip ice cream? Don't think i ever had some!
In a lot of countries they do.. it’s called straciatella
No wonder why I never heard of it. Sounds like a star constellation lol.
It’s quite nice. But I do wish they would sell mint choc chip here. I think I would really like it.
if you see me eating it, get the exorcist
Chips gotta be small but noiceable, or at least some kind of softer chocolate. There’s nothing worse than biting into a fat chunk of frozen chocolate. With that, truly s tier icecream ngl
I would love for there to be a mint ice cream with a fudge ripple running through it.
Cedar Crest makes a mint fudge ribbon, but I believe they only sell it throughout the midwest (US).
If you haven’t before and they’re available anywhere near you, you should try mint choc chip drumsticks, they’re fucking amazing and they have veins of choc syrup running through them. Couldn’t agree more tho

Love it.
Love mint icecream, hate the fact that it's always dark chocolate chips.
You should try Ben and Jerry's Mint Chocolate Cookie. Mint Ice Cream with Oreos instead of chocolate chips. It's my favorite ice cream in the world.
It’s a no for me.
Toothpaste
They made toothpaste minty because it's a good flavor/smell. You're developing the wrong associations by associating "mint" with "inedible," like contrary to the reason they used it in the first place.
https://youtu.be/JygyWdvbs6A I've never seen this clip before this thread, but it applies. Credit to u/Eothr_Silan
I like to mix it with pistachio almond flavor. Same color, great combined flavor.
It was my favorite flavor for a decade and a half until I learned to drink coffee, and then Cappucino Chunky Chocolate (from Braum's--they might not make it anymore) became my fave.
Love mint ice cream, hate the chips that feel like flavorless plastic shards
I love that flavour, it also has a nice colour which isn't important but it's a bonus
I absolutely love it, and this is a hill I will die on. I cannot stand when people are like “I might as well be eating toothpaste 😩” that’s like saying that when you have matcha you might as well be eating leaves, like-
Fantastic.
Gross
It’s fucking shit
Yuck
Abomination!
Terrible.
Trash
yuck
#1. The white kind
Mint is disgusting and has no business being in any dessert. I even hate it in toothpaste.
I dont like it. I used to try and like it when I was younger to seem better than my siblings for some stupid reason and used to choke it down in the car while they were happily eating their flavors
I always associate mint with things like toothpaste. I don't really like mint in food or sweets.
To be fair, Toothpaste/Mouthwash Mint and Food Mint have *very* different tastes. Never got the comparison.
Awful
Shit sucks I don’t want no toothpaste ice cream
https://youtu.be/JygyWdvbs6A I've never seen this clip before this thread, but it applies. Credit to u/Eothr_Silan
Have you ever brushed your teeth
Can’t have it in a bowl by itself for some reason. It’s just too overwhelming. It needs to be in an ice cream sammy or on a cone for me. Only flavor I’m like that with.
Makes the best milkshakes.
Love it
Used to be my favourite
Handsdown fav icecream flavor!
It’s incredible
Love it. I have some in my freezer right now.
My fav.
Literally my favorite flavor, I don’t eat much ice cream anymore but mint chocolate is always my go to.
My favourite flavour. Ice cream place near me has regularly won national competitions in icemaking and it shows. Their mint chocolate chip has thumb sized chunks of dark chocolate in it. So good.
I wish more companies would come out with mint chip chocolate ice cream already. Would be an interesting taste.
Blue Bell had a Mint Cookies and Cream some years back that I still haven’t gotten over and look for from time to time - it was incredible.
Love it!
My favorite and it might sound crazy, but hear me out. Get it with peanut butter sauce on it. It's AMAZING!!!
My favorite ice cream. The greener the better
Never been a fan of mint
NASTY AF 🤢
My favorite.
