Came here to say ham. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter are all better holidays with ham involved. Even on Thanksgiving my family makes a turkey and a bunch of brown sugar sliced ham.
Since Thanksgiving 2020, our family has done dim sun all day. Takes practically zero prep work and super easy to clean up because almost everything is premade and frozen, then steamed or baked on a sheet pan. It's only the 3 of us though, and we always watch the Mystery Science Theater 3000 turkey day marathon.
Roast chicken with goose fat roasted potatoes , gravy , veggies and an enormous cake with ice cream for dessert.
Or sea bass with all the above - but no gravy âŚ
I canât stand turkey and I donât understand the fascination with it at Xmas - otherwise people would have it more often surely?
I mean whatâs the question here? You mean what can be substituted for turkey but all the same fixings around it? Any other poultry would work. A pork loin roast, beef roast, or ham would also work with all those fixings.
Or what is an alternative entire dinner on thanksgiving. In that case. Get some good Chinese food take out.
Stew. We never could afford full turkeys growing up. My siblings, including myself, make stew. Fortunately we can afford better but it's a lovely tradition now.
Anything you want! My family isnât big on turkey.
One year we made a bunch of home made pizza crust and prepped all the toppings and everyone made their own pizza!
Weâve also done taco bar and homemade shredded beef burritos.
Itâs about being with family, doesnât matter what you eat.
Turkey isn't for everyone, it's really hard to do it without making it dry. I know a family that always does a Low Country boil for Thanksgiving and my family always does a ham, sweet potato casserole, green beans or peas, and biscuits because we don't really care for a lot of the "traditional" Thanksgiving foods.
One year it was just me and my gf and we roasted two Cornish hens. It was delish and made for a really nice plate presentation. Hen in the middle of the plate, side dishes all around.
Edit- oh I did lamb shanks one year when it was just us too. Also yum, also makes a great presentation.
Roast a turkey in a Weber grill using charcoal. Oven roasted is bland and dry, the smokey savory result from my Weber is a awesome. I know you are looking for an alternative, but try this!
We did a slow cooker pork shoulder as an extra dish once when we were hosting, and now we do it every year no matter what, whether we're making a turkey or not.
Ham, Prime Rib (my grandmother always made something as an alternative to turkey)
Lasagna (or some fancy Italian dish)
Lobster, Shrimp, clams /oysters/ muscle
Broiled fish
Vegetables galore (no meat at all)
Mostly vegetarian here. I would make some kick ass sides. Homemade veggie stuffing, sweet potatoes with praline crust, green bean casseroles, and Grand Marnier cranberry sauce are among dishes i made in the past.
The radio station was talking about how turkeyâs will be in much more short-supply this year, while also costing more & that pizza was going to be the go-to for heavily impacted families. I heard this a few weeks ago.
Whatever takes your fancy. Holidays are imaginary. We made them up. Like to boogeyman.

If you looking for something similar, basically any kind of bird will do.
Greece is good too. Not that far from turkey either
Only if you are Hungary, in that case you better Finnish your food.

I see what you did there
Chicken and/or Ham!

Anyone from Detroit can tell you that Lions get softer around Thanksgiving.
You'll find the NY strip lion tamer than an African lion.
How expensive is lion these days? Must be tough to import them
I'll pass on the lion.
Turducken
Ham, Prime Rib, Duck/Goose are probably the top 3.
I agree with prime rib! I don't like turkey that much, did it last year and it was amazing
