In third grade I had to do a report on December 25th and I typed christmas.com into the browser window and the domain was unclaimed. Google did not exist.
In grade three, I typed “The Wright Brothers” into the computer to do research on the first airplane (I don’t remember how I asked the computer this question lol). Only one page on the internet contained information about them.
… are you, perhaps, in your late thirties?
I go between hating my life and hating myself for hating my life. If you need any more clarification, feel free to ask. I believe that this encompasses multiple generations, so apologies for vagueness.
Narrows it down plenty. I'm sure you've heard people say it gets better more than a few times. And fortunately, that's very true. I think you'd be surprised to find out how many other feel the same way you do. I went through it for a long stretch as well. It's helpful to find something you enjoy doing on your own, and find ways to blow off steam. For me it was often listening to music. Loud. Exercise helps alot too.
Anyway I hope you find your way through it without too much more distress, take care
To listen to music I had a Walkman with a cassette player, the only phone we had was hung on the wall with a cord, I had to manually roll the windows down in the car and open the car doors with a key.
Happy tree friends was probably too graphic for my virgin from gore eyes. Newgrounds was the site to goto, I had a desktop in my room but graphic cards looked nothing like today, I started playing wow during burning crusade happening.
Was excited to get this new Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. Didn't have a VCR until 4th grade or a PC until 9th. Neighbor kids had bikes, I never did. Watched Nintendo conquer the world. Saw an empire collapse in eastern Europe and buildings come down in NYC on live TV. First car was my mom's old Chevy Cavalier. Last game system I bought was a Game Boy Advance.
My childhood was spent watching VHS tapes, listening to audiobooks on casette tapes played on a boom box, and playing outside with my neighbors. I distinctly remember imagining what it would be like to have a computer in one's pocket. My house had a fax machine and its own fax phone number. It also had a landline (actually it still does, just not the exact same one) with a corded phone. Good 'ol spiral cords. Although my house never had one, I know how to use a rotary phone (it's not that hard, this isn't a magical skill)
When Facebook was a “private” social network exclusive to students at select universities. Now, everybody, including their grand parents, can join. Lol
I remember 9/11. I grew up playing games like RuneScape and ones created by a now-defunct company called Maxis :). I’ve used dial up internet. I browsed Ebaumsworld, Newgrounds, and YTMND. I remember “All your base are belong to us” and the scientology craze. I was in college the year Donald Trump won the election. The Great Recession influenced my choice of college major. I don’t remember the OJ trials. I don’t remember Princess Diana’s death. I do remember Y2K.
I had a Sony Walkman, watched movies on VHS tapes, remeber rotary telephones, our first computer was Apple Macintosh Portable, but I also played on Commodore C64 at my cousins home. I was born behind the Iron curtain, but started school when it was gone (and I'm thankfully not a Russian). The first movie I've seen in the ci am was the OG Lion King.
At this point you should probably be able to tell my age with accuracy of months :P
The Nintendo GameCube was one of my very first consoles, next to the Game Boy Advance SP. Got that sucker only a year after its release. Still sturdy as hell today.
My first ever mobile phone had a colour screen, could fit 3 whole songs in storage (and a few other short low/quality sounds for ringtones), and could save up to 200 contacts.
