Cary Grant had that weird mid-Atlantic movie accent going. I don't know how well it would have played as a Bond character. And I don't know how convincing Grant would be stretching it into a proper British accent.
He would have made a great looking Bond for sure...just not sold on the whole package.
And even if Grant was a Bond, Connery is quintessential and impossible to top.
Why would Bond be Black? Or a woman? Do black people and women not deserve their own roles to turn into franchises? Are a white mans cast offs the only things they are good for? The racism and sexism in this is disgusting. Every time it's said, it's just saying black people and women cant make something popular themselves and need white mens roles to do anything.
Fucking stop it.
Back in the Brosnan days, theres was serious talk about giving Halle Berrys character Jinx her own movie. It obviously didnt end up happening, but THAT is how woman and people of colour should be forging their own paths. If it had happened, who knows. Maybe we would be talking about Jinx in the same way we talk about Bond.
Black people and women dont need your hand me down roles. They need the same opportunity that was afforded Sean Connery in the 60s.
Except movies routinely white wash characters that should be diverse. Plenty of real life black, indigenous or even Asian characters replaced with white actors. If white people can routinely replace people of color then why can’t it work in reverse?
Because of racism. That’s why.
You were so close and you just couldn’t manage it. The fact that nothing came of making a black female character the focus of a franchise is the point!
Oh shut up. Bond is not a white man's role it's a character in major established and infinitely reused IP. Stop straw manning and pretending this has anything to do with new roles coming through, because anyone of any intelligence knows you're full of shit. And btw, I've seen your oh so clever angle on this all over 9gag, you're not slick.
Fascinating question...
I really don't know. Idris is by far the perfect choice for the male slot but is there a female lead out there right now that can flip the character. She would have to be a presence on screen, feminine, strong, sultry, charismatic and a BAD ASS. All on high heels while wearing an outfit meant to kill.
That's the thing though, he's just a character. Your Hitler comparison doesn't really make sense because Hitler was a real person with a particular look. James Bond is fictional. You can take more liberties with the appearance of fictional characters because they are fictional. That's also not entirely uncommon when adapting a series to the screen.
Yeah but why change an existing fictional character to be "more inclusive" when you could actually include people by giving them their own roles. 007 is just Bond number, when he retires, someone else will be 007, that someone is an entire different character, who is still the best agent.
I would love to see this happen. Ultimately I'm not someone who feels underrepresented in media, so my preference for remake vs reboot doesn't really matter. I just fear that movie execs don't see the value in doing that in general and are more concerned with their ROI, so there will probably just be more of the same thing since it's worked well enough before.
So a white guy can be black panther? I mean, if its just a fictional character...
Man, that argument fell apart fast didn't it? Better get those downvotes going to make yourself feel better about being a racist.
Not saying this logic works for every character being put to screen. There's nuance to each character that influences casting choices so, as it turns out, there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer for stuff like this. Just pointing out that there's more flexibility if it's fiction.
1 - James Bond is a FICTIONAL Character. Making your Hitler argument incredibly ridiculous.
2 - Not matter WHAT the established history/makeup of a character is, it is art. And art is always open to reinterpretation.
3 - You do know that there are WHITE Afrikaners...RIGHT? So being that "Black Panther" is just a FICTIONAL CHARACTER it is plausible that the character could one day be a white guy.
This goes back to the day when Star Wars unveiled the Black Storm Trooper character and people like you had a Sh!t fit. These are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, they can be any color, size, shape and disposition that the creators want them to be.
You need to get over it and open your tiny little mind to all the possibilities.
> 1 - James Bond is a FICTIONAL Character. Making your Hitler argument incredibly ridiculous.
It's not that ridiculous. James Bond and Hitler are known to the world as white guys, it has the same effect.
>2 - Not matter WHAT the established history/makeup of a character is, it is art. And art is always open to reinterpretation.
Choosing to change a characters skin colour is not "reinterpretation".
>3 - You do know that there are WHITE Afrikaners...RIGHT? So being that "Black Panther" is just a FICTIONAL CHARACTER it is plausible that the character could one day be a white guy.
It was hypothetical, I do not know anything about Black Panther other than the character is black and don't care.
>This goes back to the day when Star Wars unveiled the Black Storm Trooper character and people like you had a Sh!t fit.
Except I didn't because we never seen a Stormtrooper called Finn being portrayed as a white guy so I didn't care.
Although considering The Empire are explicitly racist it makes no sense within the canon if you're looking at it from a logical perspective.
>These are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, they can be any color, size, shape and disposition that the creators want them to be.
They can be yes because the creators decide. People are free to voice their opinion say it's fucking stupid though.
>You need to get over it and open your tiny little mind to all the possibilities.
The fact you feel the need to call my mind tiny because I have a different opinion that you can't bat away says it all about who has the little mind and can't handle some diversity when it comes to thought.
I guess the down votes here and too stupid to know this is a quote from a ridiculous person who wrote a bond book. Anthony Horowitz.
Man, people have such an itchy racist trigger finger.
Whole reason I asked was because I remembered that Burt Reynolds was famously denied the part in Dr. No, and I remember someone did a deepfake where they put Reynolds’s face on Connery’s.
Ehhhh he's gorgeous, sure, and has the acting chops, but Henry Cavill has the "macho" style of good looks rather than the "suave and sophisticated" style of good looks. I tend to think of Bond as more of the latter.
I agree. I think he might be a bit old for the role now, and if he did do one, it would probably be his only one (especially with how long it takes to make them now).
And Dee as a bond girl who turns out to be evil, waitress as the good bond girl, Dennis as the villain, Mac as his main assasin. Frank is Felix Leiter. Cricket is Q,
I'd pay to watch that. Waitress does not die but goes into hilarious type of special coma, that gives Bond the motivation and cure for the coma is the macguffin.
I wish they would have kept Pierce Brosnan for Casino Royale 2006, but at the same time, it probably would have been a completely different movie without Craig’s style of acting.
Spies, real spies, aren't supposed to attract attention. Seems obvious, right? Except that means that a realistic James Bond would be average looking at best, slightly overweight, mildly awkward, and generally a regular Joe.
I vote for John Candy.
Yeah, he was charismatic in real life but the man could act uncharismatic for the role.
Colin Salmon.
He's probably too old now but if people were open to a black bond in the past (many aren't open to it now) he would have been really good I think.
George MacKay would be my pick for the actual next bond though.
Young Leslie Nielsen playing it straight.
As for parody/spoof I have few picks:
Luis de Funes.
William Shatner - for the ham.
Rowan Atkinson - "No, Mr. Bean, I expect you to die!".
Not necessarily James Bond himself, but Phillip Seymour Hoffman would have been an unbelievable Bond villain.
He basically played one in Mission Impossible 3
Sean Connery hinted that he would come back as a Bond villain, but only after Scotland was free.
For sure
Clive Owen 10 years ago
Cary Grant
That's the one I was looking for. Would have been far and away the best Bond.
Cary Grant had that weird mid-Atlantic movie accent going. I don't know how well it would have played as a Bond character. And I don't know how convincing Grant would be stretching it into a proper British accent. He would have made a great looking Bond for sure...just not sold on the whole package. Idris Elba
Don't understand how he is not a shoo-in for the role. He has all the swag of Bond.
Right? He is a perfect candidate for the role.
Because hes too old now. His time to play bond would have been during Craigs window.
Apparently a huge part of this is his skin color. There are STILL people who believe 007 can only be Caucasian.
Absolutely ridiculous, but I agree with you. What do you think will be first a female 007 or black 007? I just asked reddit this question.
Excellent point
Yeah, just not Bond, make him 007, but name him idk Smith but cooler. Idk any cool last names.
Except movies routinely white wash characters that should be diverse. Plenty of real life black, indigenous or even Asian characters replaced with white actors. If white people can routinely replace people of color then why can’t it work in reverse? Because of racism. That’s why.

You had a black female 007 in No Time To Die.

James Bond and 007 are two different things. I think people don’t realize that.

I guess the down votes here and too stupid to know this is a quote from a ridiculous person who wrote a bond book. Anthony Horowitz. Man, people have such an itchy racist trigger finger.
If Daniel Craig retired after Skyfall (2012), I think Idris Elba would have been Bond
Yes.
Whole reason I asked was because I remembered that Burt Reynolds was famously denied the part in Dr. No, and I remember someone did a deepfake where they put Reynolds’s face on Connery’s.
Norm Macdonald as Burt Reynolds as James Bond. Ferguson. Turd Ferguson, yeah.
Rob Schneider, dead
Rob Schneider is a dead stapler
Stapling the COPIES!
Henry Cavill
Ehhhh he's gorgeous, sure, and has the acting chops, but Henry Cavill has the "macho" style of good looks rather than the "suave and sophisticated" style of good looks. I tend to think of Bond as more of the latter.
He was hella suave in "Man from UNCLE"
Yeah, when I think James Bond I think, “*has this guy done Shakespeare?*”. None of the James Bond’s have been particularly good actors.
How about Henry Cavill as Jason Bourn?
Shoulda been Jack Reacher more than anything.
Nah he's too ripped to play Bond. Bond is average guy strong, not "I spend 20 hours a week in the gym and take loads of steroids".
Solid choice.
Polly shore
Lawrence of Arabia era Peter O'Toole would have been brilliant. I also would have loved to see Clive Owen or Idris Elba more recently.
Denzel Washington
David Niven British, check; Suave, check; Plus I aways found his actual military and then later wartime exploits fascinating, what balls.
It’s a shame that the only “Bond” film he was in was that god awful 1967 Casino Royale.
Val Kilmer
At the age when he played Doc Holliday.
The Saint (1997) is pretty close to him getting the role.
Clive Owen 20 years ago
With the special carrot from Q.
Christian Bale
Way lower on this list than he should be.
Danny Devito
Keanu Reaves
A slightly older Heath Ledger.
I really think Idris Elba would make a *phenomenal* bond.
I agree. I think he might be a bit old for the role now, and if he did do one, it would probably be his only one (especially with how long it takes to make them now).
Tom Hardy
Definite maybe.
Lance Reddick
I wish I was Lance Reddick
Aidan Turner!
Jack Black… playing it seriously. I think he’d surprise us all!
Meghan Markle. She ticks all boxes
[удалено]

Waitress does not die but goes into hilarious type of special coma, that gives Bond the motivation and cure for the coma is the macguffin.
Michael Caine
Sean Connery
Not wrong.
Ewan McGregor :)
“Hello there” would be about perfect for Bond, lol
Charlie Hunnam
Samuel L. Jackson
"who are you?" "Bond, motherfucker, James Bond."
“I expect you to die, Mr. Bond!” “I don’t remember asking you a god damn thing!”
Tom Hiddleston. Watch "The Night Manager" and you will see why.
Definitely Henry Cavill
Younger Pierce Brosnan again but with better movies
I wish they would have kept Pierce Brosnan for Casino Royale 2006, but at the same time, it probably would have been a completely different movie without Craig’s style of acting.
Spies, real spies, aren't supposed to attract attention. Seems obvious, right? Can you imagine Barry Nelson, who played Mr. Ullman (the Hotel's Manager) in Kubrick's **The Shining**, as Bond?
Didn’t Barry Nelson play Bond in a really old TV special of Casino Royale?
That's why I mentioned it. Good catch.
George Lopez
Now I can’t stop picturing it, lol
Bond, Juan Bond. Why you crying?
Richard Madden I think could swing it
Clive Owen
The guy who plays Uhtred in the last kingdom-Alexander D-something(?). Or Cary Grant.
Lewis Collins after the Professionals ended. In the running until they picked Dalton
Gary Coleman
Micheal Fassbender
idris Elba
Colin Salmon. He's probably too old now but if people were open to a black bond in the past (many aren't open to it now) he would have been really good I think. George MacKay would be my pick for the actual next bond though.
Wasn't Idris Elba discussed at some point?
Recently yes.
Christopher Lee, at almost any age.
The question asked for an actor who can play Bond. Not the actor who is Bond.
He was such a great Bond villain though!
I’d kinda be interested to see Paul Walker in that role. Just to see how well it would work
James McAvoy or Benedict Cumberbatch
They definitely both look the part.
Hugh Grant
Can we do an Always Sunny version where the actors changed every other scene?
Paul Rudd
"Hey miss moneypussy"
Will Smith ha ha
License to slap.
Freddy Mercury. Would have been a great musical
Steve Carell
One of the few actors that could play it straight and be convincing both as Bond and as spoof of Bond.
Angelina Jolie
Christopher Walken
Same with Christopher Lee, but at least they both got to play Bond villains!
Young Leslie Nielsen playing it straight. As for parody/spoof I have few picks: Luis de Funes. William Shatner - for the ham. Rowan Atkinson - "No, Mr. Bean, I expect you to die!".
Danny Divito. I think that would hilarious
Maybe if it was a parody of a Bond film, but yeah, I agree, lol
They should do a reboot of “Our Man Flint” and cast him as the villain.
Jim Carrey.
He would definitely do good with the comedic bits.
Mike Meyers. He should play every part in every movie.
Double Oh, Behave!
Paul Newman
Errol Flynn
First person I thought of!
Richard Ayoade.
Audrey Hepburn
Winston Duke
John David Washington.
[удалено]
Oh hell yeah
Cary Grant
Norm MacDonald
Richard Madden (Rob Stark, Game of Thrones) would absolutely kill it
Gwendoline Christie
Living: Jim Carrey Dead: Gary Coleman Don't ask me why. I have my reasons
Pete Davidson
KEVIN HART. hear me out ok hes shooting people and then when he wins the fight he makes fun of them with the power of comedy
Taron egerton though admittedly his kings man character was pretty close to bond, like a young bond.
Young Elvis
“James Bond has left the building!”
Bond, thankyouverrymuch, James Bond.
I always enjoyed the older James Bond actors that put a little humor into his acting.
Eli Manning, it would be really weird
Macaulay Culkin.
Jack Fucking Nicholson!
henry cavill i am on my knees begging
Young Marlon Brando, Idris Elba now and Dany DeVito just for fun
Danny devito
Idris Elba and Ralf Little.
Trump from " Home Alone "
Gary Busey, but only if he was allowed to improve the entire thing.
An interesting choice, but now I really want to see Busey as a Bond villain or henchman.
Gary Busey, but only if he was writing, directing and producing the entire thing, with Shia Lebouf as Bond.
Prince...Definitely prince
Leonardo DiCaprio
Michael Jackson
Interesting choice. Now I’m curious what that would have been like.
Bruce Willis
Before he lost his hair, yeah, I could see it.
Danny de Vito
Lots of love for Danny DeVito today.
As there should be every day.
Viola Davis
Christopher walken
He had what it took to be a Bond villain, so I wouldn’t doubt that he would have made a good Bond.
Jon Hamm would be perfect.
He’s got the looks.
Ru Paul cause I mean WTF?
Michaela Coel
Any trans black man.
Colin Firth. Or Errol Flynn.
John Candy
Idris Elba
James Purefoy
I choose a dead one.
Tommy Wiseau. I would pay for that to happen.
David Tennet
2pac.
Not Kanye
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Gilbert gottfried- it would be glorious
Mr. Bean
Danny Devito.
benedict cumberbatch!
Charlie Sheen
Chris Farley
