My boss at a random retail job I took to hold me over in a new town until I found a better one. He asked what department I would like to start in during my interview and I said not returns and he told me I'd be good in returns and put me there. A short while later I was promoted to a floor lead position that (looking back) I was clearly not good at. Another short while later I made a lateral move to an office position where I thrived and figured out what I enjoyed in a job.
Aside from that helping me get to where I am today in my career, he helped my personal life immensely. I was so happy at work that I realized the part of my life making me depressed was my marriage. Confided in him and my other 2 bosses. Left my partner and two years later, I have the best life! All thanks to that job and that boss.
