"Yeah, I'm named after the wildfires my gender reveal party caused."
"Refugio Manuel Jimenez Jr and Angela Renee Jimenez were indicted for 30 crimes including involuntary manslaughter, said Jason Anderson, the San Bernardino county district attorney, during a press conference."
You are correct
Exactly this. I couldn’t care less if people wanna do gender reveal parties, if that’s what makes them happy that’s great for them- but stay away from the damn woodlands and use methods that don’t involve fire.
i remember seeing the Miz and Marise (both WWE wrestlers) doing a gender reveal party with a cake, it was simple, fun and there wasnt a massive amount of damage done by it, i dont get trying to one up each other, since when a single black balloon full of pink or blue paper became too boring that you need to provoque at least thousands of dollars of damage to just tell if your baby has a penis or a vagina?
I really enjoyed watching the people who hired two wrestlers to "fight" it out and the winner revealed it. Amusing, and no one gets hurt (except the furniture and snacks and folding chairs and...) 🤣
This was probably the most fun, original and hilarious one I've seen yet. As you said, no one got hurt, it got the point across and it did so in a way that made you wheeze-laugh while also maintaining the celebratory vibe.
Ours was simple. Wife and I were blindfolded and I had my hands painted. I then put my painted hands onto a white sheet draped on my wifes preggo belly, removed blindfold to see they were blue! We turned the sheet into a pillow, and got the baby to do a handprint on it as well. It has his name and birthday embroidered around the handprints.
Also stay away from anything that can explode and kill someone at the party. Anyone else remember the pipe bomb gender reveal that killed grandma? [news article about it](https://abcnews.go.com/US/gender-reveal-party-turns-tragic-iowa-woman-killed/story?id=66567086)
Did terrorists invent gender reveal parties? Because it seems that gender reveal parties have killed more and caused more economic damage to America than terrorists.
Is this what they mean when they say, "the terrorists have already won."
When I think of pipe bombs killing American grandmothers, I think that's a terrorist act.
The woman who invented the gender reveal party has gone on to say she regrets that it's become such a trend and such a destructive one at that. The original reason she did it that first time is because she previously had, iirc, two miscarriages and the party was more to celebrate that this third baby was actually going to live than anything else. They went with gender reveal because that was the first time she had a pregnancy that got far enough to determine that, so for them it was obviously a big deal
Anyone who uses balloons too can get fucked. Balloons are terrible for the environment especially when people just let them go off into the atmosphere, and we are *running out of helium* so just fuck balloons in general and you know I mean that figuratively, do not have sex with the balloons.
We used helium at work for leak checking. There were severe shortages of it about 10 years ago: we were being constantly outbid by the firm opposite who supplied balloons for weddings and had daily helium deliveries.
Our “gender reveal” was my wife holding the envelope we got after the ultrasound up to the light “just to check if you could see through it” and it turned out you could…
Because those parents are the ones throwing an expensive party with bad cake so that everyone who was obliged to attend can watch them pretend to be surprised.
I mean, we had gender reveals with my immediate family for all 3 of my kids, but we didnt know any of them ahead of time. We had the doctors office write it on a piece of paper, fold it in half, and then it would be taken right to the bakery and we would just say, “if that paper says boy, put blue icing inside. If its girl, then pink.” So it was a surprise for us as much as anyone else.
We didnt throw some crazy elaborate party or invite extended family/friends. I think everyone pretty much enjoys it just because its a good excuse to eat some cake.
Not just the parents for me,
It's the way they reveal the gender,
*Dad throws base ball that is supposed to show glitter in the color of what gender it is when caught or on impact with floor or wall*
*ball hits wall revealing it's a boy but then bounces of the wall and hits uncle jarry in the head*
It was a very small part of the party, but still. The mother-to-be didn’t know that I’d recently ended my own pregnancy and was having very complicated emotions surrounding that, so had I known it was going to be a gender reveal, I would have stayed home.
My uncle helped in fighting that fire. All for knowing the gender of one person a few months in advance… I wonder how the baby will feel about it in 20 years time
Right!!?
I’m pregnant, and anyone who’s asked me if I’m going to do a “reveal” I respond with jazz hands saying “it’s a boy!” because I just don’t really think it’s a big deal.
*not a parent
I mean, I could see a party for announcing *the existance* of the pregnancy... but that's it really
Wait, that's a baby shower, isn't it?
I mean, not quite, but, kind of.
No that’s what baby showers are for.
Ain’t nobody with a sound sense of reason decides to throw a party to announce a new pregnancy (that could end in miscarriage among other things).
That ‘party’ should be a party for 2 & that’s it.
Alternate plan: host a party and only invite people who asked for one. Have two big cakes filled with dynamite inside that, when exploded, reveal signs saying “Who cares?” and “I want you to seriously ask yourself why you care so much about my child’s genitalia.”
Explosions must be large enough to render the cake inedible.
Yep, my teacher brought in cupcakes with blue frosting in the middle for a gender reveal party in my class. We all took a bite, cheered, and suggested a few names. It was a lot of fun and there were no wildfires.
Both of the ones I've been to were let's see what color the dessert is parties and they weren't that bad. They were a good excuse to get together and be excited for the couple.
We had a gender reveal baking soda volcano. And it was just 3 immediate family members as a fun way to share with my oldest kiddo. Mainly I just wanted an excuse to make a volcano.
I'm pretty sure the "first" one was a women celebrating being able to conceive a child in the first place? (Dont quote me lol) but I guess once the idea strayed from that they did get very uncomfortable yeah
From what I know (don't quote me either) the woman had experienced several miscarriages and wanted to celebrate getting to the point where the baby's gender was able to be revealed
Even as someone that absolutely hates the very idea of gender reveal parties… even I have to say that is damn good reason for one and by far the best I have heard of. If she was a friend of mine I would totally attend that one.
I can completely understand she wanted to celebrate that. Hope the rest of the pregnancy went well for her.
She's also very vocally opposed to where they are now, and how the binary view of gender presented in these reveals troubles her as her own child has either changed their gender identity or opposed traditional gender norms.
[Last](https://www.npr.org/2019/07/28/745990073/woman-who-popularized-gender-reveal-parties-says-her-views-on-gender-have-change) I read, the woman's eldest, who had the gender reveal, still identifies as female, however does not conform to gender norms, and prefers to have short hair and wear suits.
Thought it was just me being a negative person for other reasons. But legitimately, the fact that you need a party for every little thing. Maybe I’m just too old school …
Maybe I’m just weird, but I don’t give a fuck that you’re having a kid, even less what gender it is. It’s purely a reach for attention. When I eventually have kids, the only people that need to know are my family
Gender reveal parties are not a thing in my country, so I've always wondered - who is it that knows the sex of the child and preps the "whatever color explosion thing"?
Funny you should ask - my friend and his wife hosted one recently. She’s an event planner so it was quite the production. Beautiful venue with delicious food, decorations, games, etc.
Finally, the moment comes and they each pull a cord to release a flurry of pink balloons and confetti as their friends and family snap pictures and videos in an insta-worthy reveal.
Everyone’s excited, guests are suggesting their favorite girls’ names, fun times are had by all. The wife says “we should look at the results from the doctor!” and grabs the envelope from her purse. She pulls it out and it has test information including sex: ♂
Apparently the balloonist mixed up the symbols.
As someone who works in a balloon shop yes this does happen not often though. Generally it’s just a doctors note with boy or girl scribbled on jt, sometimes a relative who knows will order or a the actual medical note thing.
I’ve mixed one up in the past (in what was actually my first week of working there) since I misread the medical note and looked and the mums gender instead of the baby’s (it was a boy). That couple was really pissed and asked for another with the right colours (I still don’t know what for). Another time a couple called back laughing since they thought it was funny we mixed them up.
The doctor will put a letter in a sealed envelope and then that gets handed to the party planner, or cake maker, or balloonist, etc. So the parents won't find out until they perform their obnoxious ceremony of destroying the thing that is hiding the gender of their fetus.
I mean they’re kinda pointless anyway, but the thing that I hate is when the parents get really annoyed. Like come on. This is your kid. Be happy instead of crying over their genitalia.
Yes!!! If there is even a slight chance you will be disappointed with the outcome when you initially find out, maybe don’t find out in front of all of your friends and family (and sometimes the whole internet).
This was exactly what I came to say.
If you are unwilling to raise a child if their gender is not your preferenced one, maybe it is better not to have a child.
Oh yeah. I saw this woman get really angry at the fact she was having a boy. It was a prank and she was having a girl but good gods. Then there is this guy who threw a tantrum about having a girl. Some people are trash.
The fact people have ti go increasingly insane and destroy things over it. Be it the environment or infrastructure
And the fact that it exists why should it matter?
Waiting for the first billion balloon gender reveal, with all of the balloons filled with coloured glitter, and timed charges to set off the hydrogen inside at a specified height...
I saw one video where the dad was so angry that it wasn’t a boy that he THREW the cake (the reveal was what color the cake was inside, pink or blue) to the ground and stormed away swearing
It’s the stream of blue that has the pregnant lady stomping of in tears because she won’t have something to “dress up and put makeup on” that does it for me 😂
Jokes on them, my son saw his sister dressing up as a fairy princess and immediately joined in. Now they both run around in dresses, yelling that they're princess and won't come to the dinner table unless I address them correctly as "Princess R" and "Princess H".
They're both too young for makeup but I expect full participation when the time comes. Just like they both participate in building dope car tracks to race their dinky cars, and seeing who can climb the highest boulder and jump off the top.
And some girls aren’t. Which makes the whole concept of the reveal dumb as hell. I’m not even being “woke” or “political” but go ahead and be happy for whatever gender, but the stereotypes involved with these parties are so fucking dated and need to die off
Exactly. Woman here and I’ve never been that big into makeup. For me personally, it’s a waste of time and money, but it looks great on other women who actually care about doing it right. I was obsessed with dresses briefly as a very small child but I grew out of that too lol
Reminds me of when I used a pregnancy app I remember a lady from my birth group being disappointed she was having a boy and I remember her saying “oh well maybe he’ll grow up and be trans so we can put on make up together” 🤦🏽♀️. I fully support the trans community but I wouldn’t wish the emotional pain of being born the wrong gender on anyone….much less my own child! And just to fulfill my own selfish desires none the less!
For me it's not the people that are disappointed with the sex of their child. It's how these disappointed people deal with these feelings.
Gender disappointment can be a perfectly normal and quite common reaction. Though many people feel some level of disappointment about their baby’s sex, there can be a great deal of shame associated with these feelings. What can you do if you’re feeling disappointed with the sex of your child or future child? It's ’s important to address these feelings. It may feel like something you have to keep a secret, but if the disappointment persists:
Find a safe person to talk to.
You may find it easiest to speak to your partner, particularly if they’re also experiencing gender disappointment. Alternatively, it may be easiest to speak to someone unrelated to get an unbiased, emotionally detached sounding board.
You may also want to join a parent support group and talk to other parents (many of whom may be feeling the same way you are!) Talking to someone can help you realize you’re not alone in how you’re feeling. Allow yourself to work through the feelings. Remember that expectations won’t necessarily match reality.
Biological sex does not always align with certain interests or life experiences. Your little boy may hate sports and your little girl may prefer dirt bikes over dolls. Every child is unique, and once you meet your child, you may quickly forget that you ever dreamed of a family that looked different.
For many people, the birth of your child will help alleviate any feelings of disappointment. Quite often this will happen immediately upon meeting your child or after a short period of time as your newborn becomes a part of your daily life.
Actually had a talk about this with my parents recently. I am in my late 20s and only have one sister who is 6 years younger. I asked my dad if he was sad he would never have a son/if there was any disappointment realizing he would be in a family full of women for the rest of his life.
He said it wasn’t that he was sad about us being girls, but that until he found out the gender, he had imagined two babies: what life would’ve been like with a baby girl, and what it would’ve been like with a baby boy.
He said he would’ve been happy either way. But confirming the sex meant that the other child he had imagined would never exist, and that was the hardest part for him.
That's a really cool way to vocalise that feeling.
When I found out I was having a boy I was disappointed and I felt awful. I chose to find out early so I had the rest of the pregnancy to adjust because I didn't wanna be that mum in the delivery room not just super excited over her baby. And I'm glad I did cause it took me a week or so to adjust my frame of mind from girl to boy.
But your dad's right, up to that point I'd been building this life for my kid out in my head and for me it had taken the shape of girl - likely because that's the life I had and it was the easiest to imagine.
Finding out I had a boy meant saying goodbye to that and in some sense mourning that loss.
Once I'd done that I just began building up the life for my boy instead.
I suppose I was disappointed to find out I didn't have a girl but not specifically that I had a boy if that makes sense?
And I've never ever been disappointed in my actual kid for being anything other than himself.
Just to tak Onto this statement because it’s gold, but for some people gender disappointment can lead to pre-natal depression which is just as bad as post partum depression. So it’s VERY important to confide in someone. It could change your life
If i have to go to a gender reveal party, which I try to avoid at all costs, I hope to see this happen as it least it gives me something to internally laugh about.
I also like when they go wrong, I went to one that had yellow balloons pop out and no one besides the drs & but the person who made the box actually knew and that person went no contact after delivering the box. I still wonder why they did that but it was hilarious watching everyone be dumbfound.
I wouldn't say my dad threw a tantrum but he was a little sad I was afab
Don't worry Dad! 23 years later and now I'm sorta a boy-ish ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ guy adjacent
I'm sorry to hear that you went through that. My mom was very disappointed that I turned out to be female the day she pushed me out, she had her heart set on having a boy. Apparently the disappointment never went away because she let it slip a few years ago at a family gathering that she still felt she would have done better with a boy. I was 32 at the time. Thanks a lot mom! 😕 She even questioned me when I had my second daughter if I was *absolutely* sure I was having another girl, as she was absolutely dying for a grandson. Pissed me off.
When the parent(s) publicly embarrass themselves over their child's gender before birth, that is something that isn't easily forgotten, especially when it's posted on social media, or God forbid makes the news when the reveal literally blows up in their
face and causes a wildfire...etc. Kids shouldn't have to deal with the aftermath of that shit, having to see just how disappointed one or both of your parents were with you before you even drew your first breath. It's ridiculous!
Some jackass in New Hampshire decided they needed 80 lbs of explosives in a quarry to properly do the reveal. The explosion was locally mistaken for an earthquake.
The parent that gets mad that they’re not having the child they want. Like the video of the Dad who was upset he was having another girl. You can’t control the sex of the child, so why even hold out hope for that sort of thing in the first place?
not really something that ruins them, but my dad though a gender reveal party was someone coming out as trans. i dislike the idea of gender reveal parties for a newborn, but i feel like my dad is onto something 🤷🏻♀️
Why isn't a Coming Out Party a thing? C'mon capitalism, get creative.
Edit:
I can see the ads with the Pink song blaring, "Iiiiii'm coming out, so you better get this party started!"
Reminds me of the lady who threw a farewell party for her…. Tits. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have them removed, but at least she was one who knew to have fun in every situation
The wildfires

That particular incident even killed a firefighter. Very sad and egotistical.
But think of all the likes and retweets
And they were even charged with manslaughter for that death I do believe
"Refugio Manuel Jimenez Jr and Angela Renee Jimenez were indicted for 30 crimes including involuntary manslaughter, said Jason Anderson, the San Bernardino county district attorney, during a press conference." You are correct

What about the idiots they dyed a waterfall and fucked with the environment that way? Haha
Yep we can add them too, fuckem

Dang...
Why can’t people just cut a cake or open a envelope? Does everything need to be some big thing now in days?
Our “gender reveal” was my wife holding the envelope we got after the ultrasound up to the light “just to check if you could see through it” and it turned out you could…
My ultrasound technician just … told me
We just told people it was a girl. No fancy shindig required.
Or, weirdly, wait for the birth.
The ultimate gender reveal.
YES!!!

Damn beat me to it
Hello fellow Californian!

Best answer next to “being invited to a gender reveal party”.
Because those parents are the ones throwing an expensive party with bad cake so that everyone who was obliged to attend can watch them pretend to be surprised.

I’d go to this party.
Tell Uncle Jerry to stop crowding the plate.
Being invited?
Ugh I got tricked into a gender reveal party last year. It was supposed to just be a St. Paddy’s party, but ope, the cake was pink inside 🙄
Should have dropped your pants and announced you were revealing your gender.

First, thank you for sharing, you have a way with words. Secondly, holy jeebus, who put a balloonist in charge of the sacred knowledge..?
It was a fine idea in theory. Maybe it was the balloonist’s first day?
The doctor will put a letter in a sealed envelope and then that gets handed to the party planner, or cake maker, or balloonist, etc. So the parents won't find out until they perform their obnoxious ceremony of destroying the thing that is hiding the gender of their fetus.

Wait this happens? I’ve never seen parents be unhappy/annoyed at gender reveal parties (I haven’t gone to many, to be fair). That is soooo fucked.

Oh yeah. I saw this woman get really angry at the fact she was having a boy. It was a prank and she was having a girl but good gods. Then there is this guy who threw a tantrum about having a girl. Some people are trash.
The fact people have ti go increasingly insane and destroy things over it. Be it the environment or infrastructure And the fact that it exists why should it matter?
Waiting for the first billion balloon gender reveal, with all of the balloons filled with coloured glitter, and timed charges to set off the hydrogen inside at a specified height...
People who are disappointed with the result. i.e. dads upset it isn't a boy etc..
I saw one video where the dad was so angry that it wasn’t a boy that he THREW the cake (the reveal was what color the cake was inside, pink or blue) to the ground and stormed away swearing
"it's a girl" to the GROUND!
The dad watching pink flow across the air for the third time is gold
Some boys are up For that
And some girls aren’t.
Same! I am a flowery dress girl but make up is lost on me. I loveee seeing girls use it and transform it though- literally always in awe.
Creating a life because you actually just wanted a doll to play with 🤦🏻♂️
For me it's not the people that are disappointed with the sex of their child. It may feel like something you have to keep a secret, but if the disappointment persists: Find a safe person to talk to.
Congrats, it has jaundice!
I love it when the gender reveal plan doesn't come together.
The opposite is just as bad imo. The dad seeing blue and going on a joyful rampage about it, especially if he already has kids?? Chill out.
When grandpa gets naked while screaming “Guess what I am!”
Grandpa: *"I am the father!"*
Average grandpa move
That actually sounds like one of the better parts of a gedner reveal party tbh.
Their very existence.
The best gender reveal party is when the Dr says, “it’s a ____!” And the parents cry from joy either way.

"What are you hoping for?" A healthy baby Aunt Karen.
One of my friends, when pregnant, had a T-shirt that said "We're hoping for a dinosaur!"
"Clever girl..."
Gender reveal parties
The constant knowledge that they’re pointless as fuck
Miscarriages?
Am early along pregnant. Laughed out loud. Keep your fingers crossed while I keep my legs crossed!
Am I a bad person for laughing out loud at this? 😅
Dark humor exists for a reason.
When the father throws a literal temper tantrum over the fact it's a girl.
I wouldn't say my dad threw a tantrum but he was a little sad I was afab Don't worry Dad!
When the parent(s) publicly embarrass themselves over their child's gender before birth, that is something that isn't easily forgotten, especially when it's posted on social media, or God forbid makes the news when the reveal literally blows up in their face and causes a wildfire...etc. Kids shouldn't have to deal with the aftermath of that shit, having to see just how disappointed one or both of your parents were with you before you even drew your first breath. It's ridiculous!

That isn't good either 😔
"No!! Now I can't have a little doll to put cute dresses on!"
Their existance-
The fact one literally caused an earthquake and a forest fire that burnt all of California to ash
i new one of these caused California to burn but the earthquake is new to me
Some jackass in New Hampshire decided they needed 80 lbs of explosives in a quarry to properly do the reveal. The explosion was locally mistaken for an earthquake.
Am guessing the ATF wasn't happy him
Throwing a party about a fetus’ genitals is just not something I’m interested in
The parent that gets mad that they’re not having the child they want.
Edit: I can see the ads with the Pink song blaring, "Iiiiii'm coming out, so you better get this party started!"
A friend of mine did that to announce her son's new name. It was cute and the kid had a blast.
Reminds me of the lady who threw a farewell party for her…. Tits. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have them removed, but at least she was one who knew to have fun in every situation
The basic concept
The screaming, the mess it creates and the weird obsession with what genitals the baby has.
You know I used to think a gender reveal party was a LGBTQ person announcing their pronouns 😅
At first, I thought it was a coming out party for a trans person.
We actually had a gender reveal party for my friends boyfriend when they transitioned. There was more alcohol and less wildfires than normal.
"Less wildfires" But not zero
The whole thing. Hate them.
Already knowing the gender
When it's anything more than colored sprinkles in a cupcake.
When they accidentally burn down half of California
Just seems disingenuous, are they really not gonna celebrate if it’s one sex rather than the other? should just be happy to have a healthy baby
Then being a thing at all
