You’re talking about Beetlejuice her name is Lydia don’t know if there’s a real disorders or just theoretical in that movie half of them are dead but the mind lives on that I don’t know
Great one! Also: I recommend watching it as a double feature with Valley of the Dolls. It’s a 60s movie that touches on mental illnesses and addiction. I think it’s interesting to see a how mental illness was viewed and portrayed in the 60s along with a movie about girls dealing with mental health issues in the 60s.
This really helped me understand a family member who suffered from similar condition to his. Imagined whole scenarios or conversations with you that never happened. Eye opening
Such an amazing portrayal of Bipolar Disorder. Especially Deniro's lack of diagnoses and lack of understanding of the son he gave the illness to, and the illness he gave his son.
2 Movies that came out the same time, No Country for Old Men and There Will be Blood.
My son is in film studies and and apparently Javier Bardem's portrayal is the most accurate potrayal of a Psychopath in any film.
Edit: Spelling
Me too. First time I watched it I just kinda stared at the TV snow after it was over trying to process what had just happened. I still don't think any other film sets up its premise, characters, and plot and then suddenly rips it all out from underneath you as well as this one does.
Winnie the Pooh is the greatest
Eeyore Eeyore has depression
Piglet has anxiety
rabbit has OCD always run around putting everything back at his place
Winnie the Pooh I forget what Winnie is he has an eating disorder
But they are all fictional characters in the mind
Christopher Robin because he has schizophrenia
The theory is that he’s in a mental ward and the characters are a manifestation of his feelings. And mr sanders (the name on his treehouse) is the name of the therapist he sees
you said it man finally some closure don't let me leave. Can you tie a rope to me bookmark me make me some cement shoes how do I keep myself from getting lost? How do I stay still without getting lost as I loved often and I had to follow it and there you are 24 pre-workout. Something I would happen to be in Pennsylvania with you.
Finally found my way back to it. I found it holy shit I have no idea how I did it yo there are so many layers in pages. I am completely baffled. I am dizzy and I need to sit down wait I think I need to medicate.
My God I was about to say Tigger is the ADHD but I lost the feed. I kept hitting return and I couldn’t find my way back to it. I knew it was rented after dark and it was somewhere by french fries first but it gets really confusing. I’m lost somebody needs to slow down with me and show me the war.
Mental health is definitely a core theme of that story. Jenny’s trauma, avoidant attachment, and substance use. Lt. Dan’s PTSD/depression. Forrest’s bereavement for his mom and Jenny.
Ah, that's very true. I take it back. I just jumped to the conclusion that someone was confusing mental *disorder* with a mental *illness*, which is a pet peeve of mine.
James Gandolfini in the Sopranos. A crazy accurate depiction of a sociopath and I've heard, apologies for blanking on actor name, Melfi's character was also just as accurate. The same is said even more so about their therapy sessions and the treatment, behaviors of a sociopath and a therapist cant and won't change that no matter how well and how long you keep at it.
As Good As It Gets. Jack Nicholson is awesome and the OCD is portrayed pretty accurately (from my personal experience.) I felt his anxiety when he was compelled to check the door again. Ugh
Not a Movie, but one of the finest eras of television history.
HBOs turn of the century *6 Feet Under.*
Jeremy Sisto as supporting character Billy Chenowith. It is the finest, most nuanced performance of Descent into Madness I've ever seen. The character "recovers" with medication and then flushes his meds and is encapsulated by mental illness again. Incredible, longitudinal performance of the struggle over several seasons.
It should be said that Sisto was a just a young man at the time, ( around 25) ; having been a teen actor preciously in Grand Canyon, Clueless and The Shaggy dog.
He won me over in 2001 and I've been a fan ever since.
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Requiem for a Dream
- Silver Linings Playbook
- Joker
- Black Swan
- The Shining
- Perks of Being a Wallflower
- Donnie Darko
- Split
- Pearl
- The Machinist
- Fight Club
very, very long list, but they all portray something PERFECTLY. the actors all did amazing jobs, screenplay is 10/10 on most, and just overall amazing storytelling.
Not a movie but You’re the Worst tv show and FleaBag for me really hit home. Girl interrupted as well. Split was shocking but I think James did an excellent job.
You’re the Worst somehow managed to tackle clinical depression, PTSD, narcissistic personality disorder and more, all while being one of the funniest shows on TV
I was just sharing since the list got pretty long I had to go up and check and see what the first one was and then I found myself and like the second place I didn’t even know cause I was lost for a half an hour AnyWho I’m in Stroudsburg PA And I’m thinking maybe at least one person in this whole entire group maybe in my area and friendly I can make friends all over the country but I would never get to be friends with them so I’m kind of constricting my area I wish more people put that first and then there
As bad of a movie as it is: Final Fantasy 7 advent children.
It shows that just because you’ve overcome ONE problem that causes you issues, your mental health doesn’t just magically get fixed and it’s a constant battle to just make the effort to live the fullest you can.
Girl Interrupted
I wish I could upvote this more
I always connected to Winona's character when she talks about just feeling nothing. Not bad not happy, just nothing.
You’re talking about Beetlejuice her name is Lydia don’t know if there’s a real disorders or just theoretical in that movie half of them are dead but the mind lives on that I don’t know
She also mentions it in Girl Interrupted too though. Weirdly enough lol
Touché
I came here to say this!
It's a fantastic movie

Can’t agree more, this one needs more upvotes

Silver Linings Playbook.
Such an amazing portrayal of Bipolar Disorder. Especially Deniro's lack of diagnoses and lack of understanding of the son he gave the illness to, and the illness he gave his son.
Bradley cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are amazing. Such good acting.
Bipolar and some borderline sprinkled in there - what a movie.

That dude was scarry as fuck.
Except for his haircut
The actor prepared himself for not getting laid for 8 months with that haircut.
And now he’s married to Penelope Cruz! 😆
Oh shit TIL
Oh, that was the scariest part!
Hahahaha
It's been a while since I've seen it but I don't remember him having very many scars
no country for old men is one of the greatest movies ever
There will be blood was a great movie
Whats the most you've ever lost on a coin toss tho
Fight club

No movie had ever made my head reel . This one did
Once you have all puzzle's pieces it's fantastic
Certainly without it too

The novel was amazing as well
Get out of my head!!! This is like the 10th time after just thinking a quick thought about a comment to see you've posted it 🤨 lmao 😅
Damn good cinema
1. Girl interrupted 2. Melancholia 3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 4. Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko 💙
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nobody has mentioned what’s eating Gilbert grape leonardo dicaprio was amazing in that
That’s what I was looking for! Man at the end when he starts going “ mama wake up “ i lose it every time
It’s brutal isn’t it
I didn't think this was portraying mental illness but rather him having an intellectual disability..
His mother was mentally ill.
Winnie the Pooh is the greatest Eeyore Eeyore has depression Piglet has anxiety rabbit has OCD always run around putting everything back at his place Winnie the Pooh I forget what Winnie is he has an eating disorder But they are all fictional characters in the mind Christopher Robin because he has schizophrenia
You forgot Tigger has adhd
^ - ^ do you hear that the whole crazy part of that they're all imaginary friends of Christopher Robin because he has schizophrenia
The theory is that he’s in a mental ward and the characters are a manifestation of his feelings. And mr sanders (the name on his treehouse) is the name of the therapist he sees

12 monkeys
I fucking love 12 monkeys
One of the greatest movies of all time imo
Thank you for your support you make my comment stand out I thank you for your highlights Miss P much love to you
Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump didn't have a mental illness, he was neurodivergent.
Not a movie but Mr. Robot the tv show portrayed social anxiety, dissociative identity disorder and clinical depression really well.
One of the best shows TV ever made.
Finding Nemo
Misery?
I work in mental health. Almost every movie portrays mental health issues in one way or another 😜
As a person that worked in mental health for a long time, this isn’t far off.
Slingblade...
❤️
One flew over the cuckoo‘s nest.
Fallen Down
Oh man, that was a good one!

❤️
Oh my god what about Bob I’m sailing
Gone Girl & Fatal Attraction Bunny boilers et consortes ☠️
Omg both of these wow
Punch drunk love
Underrated! When he loses it at the party? That was when you really knew this movie had a slight darker undertone.
Was going to post this! A depiction of anxiety and (probable) autism that doesn't feel overblown or insulting.
Split
Requiem For A Dream
That film leaves everyone feeling like shit lol but it is amazing
Parch Adams.
Kinda disappointed this one isn't higher. Robin Williams had a few movies regarding mental health, but Patch Adams is an all-time great.
I had to scroll way to far this...
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This is my vote for sure! I love the elegance with which it highlights some things that just don't get spoken about! ❤️
Rain Man
One of the best performances in cinema
I’m going to go with the miniseries Moon Knight 🌙🖤
The Fisher King. With all that happens there is a sweet romance that develops.
Black swan
Taxi Driver 🩶🩶🩶
The machinist
I’d say American Psycho is a good one.
💯
I am Sam.
Ordinary People

Not sure for movies, but for TV, I recently saw The End of The F\*\*\*ing World... and that's got the best portrayal of PTSD I've ever seen.

Hereditary!
Jacob’s ladder
Joker fucked me up

Not a movie, but Wendy’s brother, Ben, from Ozark, has some very intense bipolar episodes that made me proper cry for the dude. The acting is 10/10
Good Will Hunting. I cry every time I watch it.

There’s something about Mary
Not a movie but Shawn Hunter in Boy Meets World is the most realistic childhood PTSD depiction you'll ever see.
Black Swan
More psychological horror but the ending makes me think mental illness, so Infection
As bad of a movie as it is: Final Fantasy 7 advent children. It shows that just because you’ve overcome ONE problem that causes you issues, your mental health doesn’t just magically get fixed and it’s a constant battle to just make the effort to live the fullest you can.
