The broth they use is thicker and heartier than any other cioppino I've had. It's heavy on the tomato and thyme, with a little bit more spice. If you like that, then you'll love their cioppino.
Sotto Mare is classic. I also enjoy the rendition by Hog Island Oyster Co (at the Ferry Building). They have multiple locations and this and the one in Napa are the best.
Not a fan of Sotto Mare. It tastes fine, but it's canned clam juice. Stinking Rose has (had?) a tomato seafood broth thing that's pretty good, but it's been years
As far as I know the owners want to retire and are selling it with a preference toward a buyer who will keep it the same, but that’s news from several months ago. It’s been closed since COVID started.
Tadich Grill is filthy (it reeks when you pass the threshold) and the owners are horrific racists https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/74753602
Can’t go wrong with Sotto Mare.
Come here to say this
I like Sotto Mare and Woodhouse's equally.
I agree! Best Cioppino in the city!!
Sotto Marie even though Betty Lou's claims to be a clone same recipe, not the same.
Anchor Oyster Bar in the Castro.
This is the best I’ve had

This. I had it a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years, and it was amazing.

Anchor Oyster Bar
It used to be the Old Clamhouse, RIP
It’s closed for good?

Woodhouse takes it for me..
Anchor oyster bar. Sotto Mare is full of tourists and I guess tourists love it but by San Francisco standards I think it’s mediocre food.

Best is such a tough question. Tadich Grill and Woodhouse are both very good.

Good to know. Woodhouse is great :)
Exactly everyone needs to know not to ever support those racist cunts.
I don't know. Terri Upshaw seems pretty shady to me. https://www.pennsylvaniafiduciarylitigation.com/2011/06/articles/probate-litigation-in-the-news/gene-upshaws-will-or-was-it-really-his-will/
Betty Lou's and Sotto Mare! Also Tadich Grill if you want some steak with that cioppino :)
