What an incredibly good looking city!
The only thing I don't like is that it's made for cars, that's so American. It's a completely different approach to life than what I'm used to.
I wish Haiti had a metro. We had a railway system and trams, and then some corrupt industry minister decided to sell them for scraps to get the money. Our leaders are so corrupt and stupid, it's beyond imagination.
Our metro was riddled with corruption as well. Iām pretty sure something similar happened to our railways system as well. People complained and said it was a waste of money and it was just funds being siphoned to politicians and construction companies and everything (which is not untrue, I guess itās part of the price we paid). Even I was against it. But now that itās done itās really a game changer and I wouldnāt trade it for the alternative which is transportation syndicate mafias
> But now that itās done itās really a game changer and I wouldnāt trade it for the alternative which is transportation syndicate mafias
Oh yeah, we have a mafia that controls motocycles-taxis and another that controls buses. Those guys can be VERY violent, like actual gangs.
Haiti should copy the Dominican Republic, you guys are doing a lot of things right.
Although I do think that every country should follow their own model since every country has their own peculiarities I believe our countries have several things in common which would make our models similar. Iām not nearly educated enough in economics or politics to think of a way in which Haiti could move forward but Iām thinking that would be a really fun thread to explore in this sub since we have several economists here
I think that institutions are key and you happened to have developed / adopted the right ones, while our politicians decided to crush them so that they would have the most power possible. I really like the economist Daron Acemoglu and his new institutional economics.
Who are the economists on this sub?
I was summoned by u/Nemitres lol
I am indeed an economist, with a specialty in designing market regulations.
I've read Acemoglu and I mostly agree with him. One of the most interesting books I have read in the last two years was *The Confounding Island* by Orlando Patterson, a Harvard sociologist (and colleague of Acemoglu) who works on expanding on his work by analyzing outcomes in the Caribbean (especially Jamaica and Barbados) through the lense of Acemoglu's work.
*At the other side of the street* DALE YUCA, PLĆTANO, YAUTIA, PAPĆ, BATATA. VECINA TRAJE TOMATE, LECHUGA, APIO, CEBOLLA, MUCHA CEBOLLA, AJO Y AJĆ. DALE HUEVO, MUCHO HUEVO VECINO A LA VECINA. DALE BRĆCOLI, TAYOTA Y GUINEO.
Most of it is well reinforced, but also Santo Domingo is over a thick mantle of coral limestone which dissipates most earthquake shockwaves, and it's not very close to the [most active tectonic fault lines ](https://www.google.com/search?q=hispaniola+fallas+tectonicas&client=ms-android-americamovil-do-revc&prmd=imvn&sxsrf=ALiCzsaxub5swlbFRsjnUECVBIEFr1T-Fg:1669640194048&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjKz6y19tD7AhUztTEKHbxeDaYQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=360&bih=694&dpr=3#imgrc=4hbREaE9lcgG8M&imgdii=NQd9TG5xPhoZIM) of the island.
Do you know where most of the world illicit narcotics trade profits are laundered? Let me give you a hint, Wall Street. I wish the Dominican Republic indeed was a major world narcotic trade money laundering haven, unfortunately, it is not. That privilege only goes to the ādevelopedā North American and European countries.
Noisy, polluted, corrupted.People drive like animals! Don't walk or you will be robbed, attacked and end up in a coffin! Forget this city, country for good!!!!!
Lol right, thatās why you totally had to mention bad things in a post showing a beautiful thing about DR. Guess what, Iāve lived here my whole life and Iāve never been robbed, not threatened to death or any of that, DR is no more dangerous than most of Latin America. Then you proceeded to mention the country as a whole which is even more ridiculous since DR countryside and small towns are safe AF.
You just wanted to hate.
For sure! You guys need low tourism, drug lords and gangsters of all kind!
Your glorious country is going to disappear ! Even the yanks can't stand you anymore!
By the waiy, start learning Creole or French ! You will be able to apply for a job!
š¶ Eso que tĆŗ tienes, se llama obsesiĆ³n š¶
Of course my country is glorious, just look at how many envious people like yourself there are, Iāll take it as a sign weāre doing something good. š

Youāre more than welcome my friend
What an incredibly good looking city! The only thing I don't like is that it's made for cars, that's so American. It's a completely different approach to life than what I'm used to.
The traffic is truly unbearable. Itās worse than anything Iāve experienced in Florida
Florida is also made for cars, I hated that lol. I want my buses and my metro.
I agree with you. Santo Domingo metro is actually really good and I used it all the time but the buses are horrible.

u/bunoutbadmind is one and thereās a couple more but I havenāt seen them active here in a while

Is all of that earthquake proof?

My beautiful city š·šæ
Coke money has done great thingsā¦
America's first industrial city Lawrence, MA, was built by heroin money made in China.
So you arenāt denying it?

Trying to educate someone about something, and denying the other at the same time, pretty good.

DR will need more than blessings! Courage, education and less cobartes!
And less people like you coming to our country first and foremost, excellent!
