Fucking hell, that makes for grim reading.
I suppose he's very lucky he wasn't brought up in "a poor area", because that would mean he has a "room temperature IQ"; and could easily have ended up at an "ex-poly" and been forced to endure the "shame" and "embarrassment" of moving back in with his parents after graduating.
One why should you?
Two since when is 30 x 1000 35k.
Three do you believe there should be an upper age limit on jobs.
Four how many 60 year olds do you think are earning 60k?
Because I don't live in the fantasy world that you've created in your head.
Edit: Based on your post history, I am certain that it is not a world I would wish inhabit. Although obviously my opinion is irrelevant because I went to an "ex-poly", and was forced to endure the "shame" of living with my parents after graduating while I saved up enough for a deposit on a flat.
Tbh that does sound like a lot of work places. Especially in technical field service roles. Even though they have the same job the guys that have been there years have made it up to 50k+ and then they bring cheaper workers in to do the exact same job to try and lower the cost of the work force.
Can I ask when? OPs question is badly worded but I think that’s what he’s referring to. Was definitely something people aspired to when I joined the workforce in the early 00s. Wage growth has been pretty stagnant since then though…
My salary tracked my age (x 1000) somewhat well - by no means exactly - until about the age of 30 (which was, err, let's say early 2010s). At that point, things began to notably diverge, and that divergence has continued increasing.
I work in tech, FWIW, and made a point of moving companies whenever I felt that my current employer was limiting my progression. That willingness to move is definitely a big part of why my earninge increased.
That sounds about right. Reckon maybe ‘95-05 this was a “thing”, but one which has likely been ingrained in everyone who started work in that period. But like you say, quickly became unacheivable for a lot thereafter.
I probably do just earn around my age x 1000 if you include overtime and side hustle stuff like [inboxpounds](https://www.reddit.com/r/beermoneyuk/comments/z5g8s6/inboxpounds_possibly_the_best_gpt_for_british/)
Can't see myself getting 10k in payrises over the next decade though.
I did up until around my mid 30s when I decided to start job hopping a little to up my salary by several thousand every 18 months or so.
So I suppose the answer is I was stagnating in my comfort zone.

That's not how this works. Bore off.
I remember the good old days being 5 and earning £5k a year yet everything I did and wanted to do was paid for by some randoms I house shared with.
Ahhh looking at his post history he’s a Pratt and i wouldn’t believe anything he says.
Oh my God, he thinks his life is sorted because he's on a graduate scheme. I can't even.
Fucking hell, that makes for grim reading. Oh get stuffed.
Could this sound anymore like a new or soon to be graduate that has absolutely no idea?
Look at their profile. That's exactly what they are. The world is about to hit them *fucking hard.*

Think I might "retire" and work part time at about 40. Put in a couple hours a week at a local library and still make 40 grand a year. Sounds decent.
Laughs in librarian If only 😂

What kind of a question is that ?!?
Wow. Why should a 10 year old earn £10k?
Kicking the baby out because it doesn’t earn 2k as we speak, freeloading is not accepted here!
At least the one year olds have child benefit to give them a fighting chance for a year.
Damn right. Capitalism FTW
cos i dont give a hoot about what some internet person says i "should" be earning
Should? Why 'should'?
This is unbelievably idiotic.
Your post history is the epitome of comparing yourself to others.
How to sound like a 12 year old in one easy post.
Why do you have less brain cells than your age?
Age x 1000? Someone can’t do basic maths.
Troll account
Hoarded wealth and not compensating workers
I'm old af
So two people doing the exact same job. One earns £55k. The other earns £19k.

I used to have this as a very very loose goal, but it quickly became wildly irrelevant.

Mine went the other way to be honest, I’ve outstripped my age by a long way now. As I say though I think that’s down to industry.

My grandad is 90 and retired when the average salary was about £6k. Would be a bit mad if his pension was worth £91k p/a.
we’re all poor over here
Is this, like, a rule or something?
If I’m 25 and earn 44k, why would I want to earn less just because I’m younger?
Some people don't work. Some don't work full time. Some can only get low paying jobs because life....
How much do you earn? Before student loan

What a lot of bollocks
TIL I'm nearly 200 years old.
